着脱用芯材４は、合成樹脂製又は金属製の可撓性を有する細長い板状の部材から成り、フロアマット１をカーペット５に重ね敷きする際に使用するものである。また、カーペット５からフロアマット１を剥がす際に使用するものである。フロアマット１をカーペット５に重ね敷きする際に、先ず、この着脱用芯材４を取り付けたフロアマット（表面材）１の端縁部分１ａの面ファスナー３をカーペット５に張り付ける（図３（ａ））。次に、このフロアマット１の他端縁部分１ｂを、このフロアマット１を張り付ける方向の斜め上方（矢視線）へ手で引っ張りながら徐々に面ファスナー３をカーペット５に張り付ける（図３（ｂ））。最後にフロアマット１の面ファスナー３全体をカーペット５に張り付けて作業が完了する（図３（ｃ））。このように、端縁部分１ａの面ファスナー３部分をカーペット５に係着させながら全体を敷いていけば、シワが生じることなくきれいにフロアマット１をカーペット５に敷くことができる。

なお、着脱用芯材４は略コ字形状に曲折する以外に、図８に示すように、フロアマット１の外周形状に合わせて、その両端を曲線状に曲折することも可能である。このような形状の着脱用芯材４を用いることで、曲線形状のフロアマット１の端部のカーペット５へ容易に張り付けることができる。
