Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical disc apparatus having a servo function for causing a laser beam from a pickup to follow the focus of a disc and performing recording / reproduction with the laser beam.
In a recording / reproducing apparatus corresponding to a disk-shaped recording medium such as an optical disk, the light beam output from the optical head must be controlled so as to have an appropriate focus state on the disk recording surface. Is provided with a focus servo system for controlling the focus by driving the objective lens in the direction toward and away from the disk recording surface.
In particular, since the optical disk fluctuates in a direction parallel to the light beam due to surface vibration or the like, a focus servo that accurately follows the focal position of the laser on the surface of the optical disk is indispensable.
The focus error signal is generated by calculation of reflected light information obtained by the optical head, and an offset (bias) voltage is applied to the focus error signal.
In a general optical disc apparatus, the focus offset amount is set so as to maximize the modulation degree of the reproduction signal (see Patent Document 1), or the focus offset amount is set so that the peak of the tracking error signal is maximized. (See Patent Document 2).
However, even if the focus offset value is adjusted so that the peak of the reproduction signal or tracking error signal is maximized by the conventional method, the focus offset value at this time has the smallest reproduction block error rate (hereinafter referred to as BLER). There is a case different from the focus offset value when This is due to the change in laser emission due to the birefringence of the media and the effect of astigmatism on the optical pickup. This effect varies depending on the type of disc and the optical head of the optical disc device. Even when the focus offset value is obtained, there are cases where the BLER deteriorates.
In addition, the storage capacity can be increased by providing two or more recording layers in the optical disc. Further, the optical head (pickup) is accessed from one side, and the light beam of the optical head is focused on each layer, so that reproduction and recording are possible. As a result, large-capacity recording / reproduction can be performed without turning the disc over. For this reason, DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) has been widely used as a read-only type (ROM) double-layer disc, but recently DVD + RDL (Double Layer) is a recordable medium having the same capacity. It has been put into practical use.
When such a disc is used, the amplitude of the playback signal and tracking error signal of the playback signal and tracking error signal will be smaller than that of a normal single-layer disc. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain a correct focus offset value.
Also, the power of the light beam differs between reproduction and recording. For this reason, there is a case where the gain of the signal received from the disk surface is changed between reproduction and recording. Therefore, the optimum focus offset at the time of reproduction is slightly different from the optimum focus offset at the time of recording.
An object of the present invention is to solve the problems in the prior art, and is to adjust the focus offset value so as to reduce the BLER and to reduce the BLER during reproduction after recording. An optical disc apparatus capable of performing the above is provided.

The parameter storage means (storage means) 8 is configured by a nonvolatile memory such as FlashROM, for example. It should be noted that the completed parameters can be additionally stored in the
In the optical disk apparatus of this embodiment configured as described above, while reproducing a disk having an RF signal in advance by process adjustment or the like, the focus offset values are changed and BLER is measured at each focus offset value. . At this time, the relationship of BLER to the focus offset is generally as shown in FIG.
In general, the focus offset value is a voltage value, but when the offset value is changed, it is generally set by a D / A converter (not shown) in the
The focus offset value of 0 is obtained in the form of a quadratic expression (or an expression having an order larger than the second order). Next, a value that minimizes the focus offset within the range of the focus offset changed with respect to the obtained expression is calculated.
This value is set when actually used in an optical disk device. In FIG. 2, even if the focus offset value changes in the vicinity where the BLER is the smallest, the focus offset value does not change so much. In other words, it becomes larger as a quadratic function.
Therefore, an approximate expression is made by quadratic approximation of the focus offset value and BLER. In the quadratic approximation, it can be determined whether there is a minimum value by the coefficient of the quadratic term, and the minimum value can be calculated. If there is a minimum value, the minimum value is calculated.
Here, the smallest focus offset value measured without creating a quadratic approximate expression may be used as the adjustment value. However, when the BLER measurement suddenly deteriorates due to a disk defect, the adjustment value is changed. Since there is a possibility of significant deviation, it is better to use the focus offset value obtained from the approximate expression as the adjustment value.
The parameter storage means 8 provided in the optical disk apparatus is provided for the adjustment value obtained in this way and stored in the parameter storage means 8. The stored adjustment value is used as the focus offset value when actually used.
Further, it is conceivable that the focus offset value of the multi-layer disc has a different focus offset value for each layer. Therefore, the BLER is measured when the focus offset value is changed by reproducing the disc in a predetermined layer (for example, the layer closest to the pickup) as described above, and the focus offset value and the BLER are measured in the same manner as described above. Therefore, the value with the smallest focus offset value is stored as the adjustment value. The focus offset value of the other layer is examined at the design stage etc. to determine the relationship with the focus offset value of a certain layer obtained as described above, and the relationship is obtained in the form of an equation. In actual use, the adjustment value memorized according to the layer is used as the focus offset value for the adjusted layer, and the adjustment value memorized for other layers. The value calculated according to the relational expression for which the value has been obtained in advance is set as the focus offset value. The relational expression at this time may be a simple difference or a complicated one.
In some cases, the focus offset value at which the BLER is the smallest for a certain optical disk (hereinafter referred to as disk A) is not the focus offset value at which the BLER is the smallest for another type of optical disk (hereinafter referred to as disk B). Therefore, the relationship between the focus offset values at which the BLER is the smallest in each of the disc A and the disc B is examined in advance in the form of a relational expression such as a stage.
In the process, the adjustment value of the focus offset is stored in the disk A as described above, and the adjustment value stored in accordance with the type of the optical disk is used as it is when it is used for implementation, or is stored according to a certain relational expression. Calculated from the adjustment value that has been set, and used as the focus offset value. The relational expression at this time may be a simple difference or a complicated one.
これは例えば再生時調整値をfofs_read、記録時調整値をfofs_writeとした場合、fofs_write=fofs_read+ofs_b1のofs_b1ように再生時の値にある固定の差分を足すだけでも良いし、fofs_write=fofs_read+(fofs_read×ofs_a1+ofs_b2)のように差分を再生時調整値に対して変化させて、その差分を再生時調整値に足すようにしたり、或いはfofs_write=fofs_read×ofs_a2+ofs_b3のように単に再生時調整値に対してある1次式の関係で記録時調整値を算出したりしても良い。
Also, the light emission power may be large at the time of recording and playback, and even if the focus offset value at the time of playback is the same, even if the set power is the same at the time of recording, when the focus offset value is changed, As shown in FIG. 2, there is a quadratic function relationship between the focus offset at the time of recording and the BLER at the time of reproduction after recording.
Therefore, in the design stage, recording is performed while changing the focus offset value in advance, and the point where the BLER becomes the smallest when the recording position is reproduced is the optimum focus offset value (recording adjustment value) at the time of recording. The relationship between the focus offset value (reproduction adjustment value) and the recording adjustment value is obtained with the smallest BLER during reproduction.
For example, when the playback adjustment value is fofs_read and the recording adjustment value is fofs_write, the fixed difference in the playback value may be added, such as fofs_write = ofs_read + ofs_b1 of fos_write_fos_write_fos_write_fof_sf ) To change the difference with respect to the adjustment value at the time of reproduction, and add the difference to the adjustment value at the time of reproduction, or simply to a certain primary value with respect to the adjustment value at the time of reproduction as fofs_write = ofs_read × ofs_a2 + ofs_b3. The adjustment value at the time of recording may be calculated in relation to the formula.
In this way, the relationship between the adjustment values at the time of reproduction and recording is obtained, and during actual recording, the focus offset value is obtained from the above relationship with respect to the adjustment value at the time of reproduction and used.
The focus offset value is changed for each layer of the optical disc, BLER is measured, and the focus offset value is adjusted. By calculating and using values adjusted for each layer in this way, rather than calculating the adjustment value of another layer from one layer as described above, it is set from the value obtained by actual measurement. It is an accurate value.
However, there is a demerit that the tact time of the process increases by making this adjustment for each layer, so it is necessary to investigate beforehand whether adjustment is required for each layer by experiment etc. and calculate from other layers as necessary To determine whether to use the adjustment value method.
Further, when the type of the optical disk is different, the focus offset value is changed, BLER is measured, and the focus offset value is adjusted.
For example, there are DVDs such as DVD + R, DVD-R, and DVD-RAM. However, since the physical structures are different from each other, the value of the focus offset may be different, and the BLER is measured by directly changing the focus offset. The smallest focus offset value is used as the focus offset value when actually used as the adjustment value. This makes the focus offset adjustment value more accurate than calculating from the focus offset value of a certain type of optical disc. However, this also increases the tact time of the process and increases the cost because a new optical disk is used, so it is necessary to investigate whether it is necessary to adjust each type of media in advance through experiments. If necessary, it is calculated from other types of discs to decide whether or not to make an adjustment value. With this configuration, even when the type and layer of the disc are different, it is not necessary to deteriorate the reproduction quality.
The processing operation of the optical disc apparatus described so far is executed by the
The processing operation of the above-described optical disc apparatus according to the present embodiment will be described below.
First, focus offset adjustment processing in which BLER is minimized will be described using the flowcharts shown in FIGS. The adjustment process described below is executed by the
In this case, first, a disk with RF is played back in the shipment of the process (before the inspection of the shipment) (S1). After reproduction, seek is performed where RF is present (S2), and after seek, the focus offset value is set to -40LSB (S3). The BLER at the playback position is measured in the state set to -40LSB and stored in the parameter storage means 8 (S4).
Next, it is determined whether or not the current focus offset value is 40LSB (S5). If the focus offset value is not 40LSB (N in S5), 10 is added to the focus offset value (S6). Returning to step S4, BLER is measured again and stored in the parameter storage means 8 (S4). This process is performed until it is determined in step S5 that the current focus offset value is 40 LSB (Y in S5). That is, here, the BLER is measured with the focus offset values of −30LSB, −20LSB, −10LSB, 0LSB, 10LSB, 20LSB, 30LSB, and 40LSB.
Next, a quadratic approximate expression is calculated from these focus offset values and the respective BLER values (S7). Next, BLER calculated by substituting −40 for the focus offset value feofs_cur into the calculated quadratic approximate expression is held in the
Next, “1” is added to the focus offset value feofs_cur (S9), and BLER calculated from the added focus offset value feofs_cur is set as bler_cur (S10).
Next, the calculated values of bler_min and bler_cur are compared (S11). If the value of bler_cur is smaller than bler_min (Y in S11), “1” is added to the focus offset value feofs_cur (S12), and the step is performed. Return to S10.
If a negative result is obtained in step S11 (N in S11), bler_cur is set to bler_min (S13), and the focus offset value feofs_cur at this time is set to fofs_bler_min (S14).
In this way, the focus offset value is decreased one by one, and when the value of bler_cur becomes larger than bler_min, bler_min is stored in parameter storage means 8 as the optimum focus offset value at that time (S15). .
Next, it is determined whether or not the disc being reproduced is a multi-layer disc (S16). If it is a multi-layer disc (Y in S16), it is determined whether or not all layers have been adjusted (S17). If all the layers have not been adjusted (N in S17), the layers are changed (S18), and the processing is continued from step S2. In other words, seek to where RF is and adjust it again.
On the other hand, if all the layers have been adjusted (Y in S17), it is determined whether or not to adjust with another disk (S19). If any adjustment is made (Y in S19), the disk is replaced. (S20) The process returns to step S1 and continues. In other words, the disc is replaced and the adjustment is started again from the disc playback. If it is determined in step S16 that the disk is not a multilayer disk (N in S16), the process of step S17 is skipped and the process proceeds to step S19.
In actual operation, the focus offset is set according to each disc after disc discrimination.
Next, focus offset setting processing during reproduction will be described using the flowchart shown in FIG. The setting process described below is also executed by the
In this case, first, it is determined whether or not the disk to be reproduced is a recording disk (S21). If it is a recording disk (Y in S21), it is determined whether or not the layer is Layer1. (S22). If the layer is Layer1 (Y in S22), the focus offset of the recording system Layer1 is set (S23). If the layer is not Layer1 (N in S22), the focus offset of Layer0 is set (S24), and processing Will finish.
Next, focus offset setting processing during recording will be described using the flowchart shown in FIG. The setting process described below is also executed by the
In this case, first, it is determined whether or not the layer of the disc to be recorded is Layer 0 (S31). If the layer is Layer 0 (Y in S31),
Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2005-11518 also discloses a technique for finding an optimum focus offset from a block error rate. However, in the technique disclosed in this publication, the focus offset value is changed, and the block is determined by measurement. The focus offset is where the error rate falls below a certain value. The relationship between the focus offset and the block error rate is not necessarily a quadratic function as shown in FIG. 2, and there is a bad part only in the part where the block error rate exists as shown in FIG. When performing the above, there is a possibility that a position different from the original position where the block error rate is the lowest is set as the focus offset.
On the other hand, the present invention obtains a focus offset with the smallest block error rate after obtaining several relational expressions between the block error rate and the focus offset. Even if it is bad, there is an advantage that the influence is reduced.
