Abstract
Description
本発明は、プラズマディスプレイパネルの製造方法、および、プラズマディスプレイパネルに関する。 The present invention relates to a plasma display panel manufacturing method and a plasma display panel.
プラズマディスプレイパネルは、放電空間を介して互いに対向配置された一対の平面ガラス基板である前面基板および背面基板を備えており、背面基板の内面上に井桁状などの隔壁を設けて前記放電空間を複数個の放電セルに区画し、これら複数個の放電セル内で選択的に放電発光させることにより画像表示を実施する。 The plasma display panel includes a front substrate and a rear substrate, which are a pair of flat glass substrates disposed to face each other through a discharge space, and a partition wall such as a cross-beam is provided on the inner surface of the rear substrate to form the discharge space. An image is displayed by dividing into a plurality of discharge cells and selectively emitting light in the plurality of discharge cells.
このようなプラズマディスプレイパネルの前面基板の内面側には、放電ギャップを介して対向する複数の透明電極およびこれら透明電極の一端部に積層するバス電極を備えた複数の表示電極対と、これら表示電極対間に設けられた複数のブラックストライプと、これら表示電極対およびブラックストライプ上を被覆する誘電体層と、この誘電体層上を被覆する保護層と、などがそれぞれ設けられている。 On the inner surface side of the front substrate of such a plasma display panel, a plurality of display electrode pairs including a plurality of transparent electrodes opposed via a discharge gap and a bus electrode laminated on one end of these transparent electrodes, and these displays A plurality of black stripes provided between the electrode pairs, a dielectric layer covering the display electrode pairs and the black stripes, a protective layer covering the dielectric layers, and the like are provided.
上記保護層は、誘電体層が放電によりスパッタリングされることを防ぐと共に、低電圧で放電を発生させるための二次電子の放出層としての役割も持っている。また、発光は保護層を通して前面基板側から観察されるため可視光に対する透明性も必要とされる。このため、保護層の材料としては、低スパッタ率、高二次電子放出係数、可視光に対する透明性などの特性により酸化マグネシウム(以下、MgOと記す)が広く用いられている。 The protective layer prevents the dielectric layer from being sputtered by discharge, and also serves as a secondary electron emission layer for generating discharge at a low voltage. Further, since light emission is observed from the front substrate side through the protective layer, transparency to visible light is also required. For this reason, magnesium oxide (hereinafter referred to as MgO) is widely used as a material for the protective layer due to characteristics such as a low sputtering rate, a high secondary electron emission coefficient, and transparency to visible light.
従来、このようなMgOによる保護層の形成方法として、スプレーガンを用いたスプレー法により、MgOの微結晶粉末を溶剤に分散させた塗工液を基板に対して吹き付けるものが知られている(例えば、特許文献1参照)。 Conventionally, as a method for forming such a protective layer with MgO, there is known a method in which a coating liquid in which MgO microcrystalline powder is dispersed in a solvent is sprayed onto a substrate by a spray method using a spray gun ( For example, see Patent Document 1).
特許文献1に記載の構成では、直径が1〜2μmのMgOの微結晶粉末をエチルアルコールを分散溶媒として分散させ、吹き付けに用いる懸濁液としている。そして、スプレーガンに懸濁液と霧化用の高圧エアを供給し、懸濁液をガラス基板上にスプレー塗布した後、ガラス基板を200℃に加熱しエチルアルコールを充分に蒸発させ、MgO微結晶が積層したMgO膜を得る構成が採用されている。
In the configuration described in
しかしながら、上述したような特許文献1のような構成では、ガラス基板を誘電体層が溶けない200℃で加熱してMgO膜を得るため、MgO膜が誘電体層上に載っている状態で設けられてしまい、MgO膜と誘電体層との結合力が弱くなるおそれがある。
このため、例えばプラズマディスプレイパネルの使用時における放電により、MgOが飛散してしまい、放電確率の低下を引き起こすおそれがある。
However, in the configuration as in
For this reason, for example, MgO scatters due to discharge during use of the plasma display panel, which may cause a decrease in discharge probability.
本発明は、上述したような問題点に鑑みて、良好な保護層を形成可能なプラズマディスプレイパネルの製造方法およびプラズマディスプレイパネルを提供することを1つの目的とする。 In view of the above-described problems, an object of the present invention is to provide a plasma display panel manufacturing method and a plasma display panel capable of forming a good protective layer.

請求項10に記載の発明は、放電空間を介して対向配置された一対の基板と、これら一対の基板のうち一方の基板の内面上に形成された複数の電極対と、これら電極対上を被覆する誘電体層と、この誘電体層上を被覆する保護層とを備えたプラズマディスプレイパネルであって、前記保護層には、酸化マグネシウム粉体と、ガラスフリットとが含まれることを特徴とするプラズマディスプレイパネルである。 According to a tenth aspect of the present invention, a pair of substrates opposed to each other via a discharge space, a plurality of electrode pairs formed on the inner surface of one of the pair of substrates, and the electrode pairs A plasma display panel comprising a dielectric layer to be coated and a protective layer covering the dielectric layer, wherein the protective layer includes magnesium oxide powder and glass frit It is a plasma display panel.

〔プラズマディスプレイパネルの構成〕
本実施形態において、図1に示すように、1はプラズマディスプレイパネル(Plasma Display Panel:PDP)であり、このPDP1は、例えば略平面長方形状に形成され、プラズマ放電による発光を利用して画像を表示する装置である。このPDP1は、画像表示領域を構成する放電空間Hを介して、互いに対向配置された一対の基板である背面基板2および前面基板3を備えている。

The front substrate 3 constitutes the display surface of the
具体的には、表示電極対31は、図2および3に示すように、放電ギャップG(図2参照)を介して対向する複数対の透明電極311a,311bと、これら透明電極311a,311bの一端部に積層する一対の直線状のバス電極312a,312bとを備えて構成されている。
Specifically, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the
透明電極311a,311bは、図2に示すように、ITO(Indium Tin Oxide)などの透明導電膜で略T字形状に形成されており、所定の放電セル231に対応して一対ずつ設けられている。
As shown in FIG. 2, the

As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the

[PDP manufacturing method]
Next, a method for manufacturing the

Next, in the production line for the front substrate 3 of the

First, a coating apparatus used in the spray method will be described.

(Spray application method)
Only when spray coating is performed using the
(Composition of coating solution)
The coating liquid LQ applied by spraying with the above-described
The coating liquid LQ is an inorganic substance-containing slurry containing MgO powder made of
MgO粉体には、例えば、BET法によって測定した平均粒径が500Å以上(好ましくは2000Å以上)の単結晶MgO342Aが用いられる。なお、MgO粉体としては、これに限らない。 As the MgO powder, for example, single crystal MgO342A having an average particle diameter measured by the BET method of 500 mm or more (preferably 2000 mm or more) is used. The MgO powder is not limited to this.
As the glass powder, one having an average particle size smaller than that of single crystal MgO342A is used. As the glass powder, lead oxide-borosilicate glass which is a material having a higher basicity than single crystal MgO342A is used. Here, as the glass powder, in addition to lead oxide-borosilicate glass, the content of alkali metal oxides such as K 2 O, Na 2 O, and Li 2 O is large, and the basicity is higher than that of
Here, the glass powder whose softening point is lower than that of the
In the case where the thickness of the portion of the
By forming the
Further, a
Furthermore, the
Further, since glass powder having an average particle size smaller than that of the
〔実施例〕
本実施形態の効果を確認するための実施例を以下に示す。
〔Example〕
An example for confirming the effect of this embodiment will be described below.
(Relationship between glass powder content in coating liquid and adhesion of crystalline MgO layer)
The relationship between the glass powder content in the coating solution and the adhesion of the crystalline MgO layer was examined.
As the MgO powder, single crystal MgO having an average particle diameter of about 1 μm and a discharge probability higher than that of MgO in the thin-film MgO layer was used.
The glass powder used was a lead oxide-borosilicate glass, a softening point of 530 ° C., and an average particle size of about 0.2 μm.
Mixing of these MgO powder and glass powder was implemented using the system which makes the granular material in a mixing tank flow by an air blow. And the mixture of MgO powder and glass powder was disperse | distributed to IPA (2-propanol) of a solvent so that the mixture content rate of a coating liquid might be 5 wt%. For the dispersion of this mixture, ultrasonic vibration was used, and ultrasonic vibration was applied until the temperature of the coating liquid reached from room temperature to 50 ° C.

Then, using such a
Here, the structure of the board | substrate of Examples 1-1 to 1-4 and Comparative Example 1-1 is demonstrated.
When producing the substrates of Examples 1-1 to 1-4, the mixture content was 5 wt% and the glass powder content was 1, 3, 5, 10 wt on the dielectric layer of the substrate. % Of the coating liquid was sprayed and fired at a temperature of 560 ° C. to form a crystalline MgO layer having single crystal MgO and glass frit.
When producing the substrate of Comparative Example 1-1, the glass content relative to the sum of the masses of the MgO powder and the glass powder is 5 wt% on the dielectric layer of the substrate. A crystalline MgO layer having only single-crystal MgO was formed by spray-coating a coating solution of 0 wt% (hereinafter simply referred to as glass powder content) and firing at a temperature of 560 ° C.
The coating liquid and firing conditions were prepared and set so that the transmittance of the substrate after forming the crystalline MgO layer (hereinafter referred to as the set transmittance) was 70%.
結晶MgO層の付着力の評価は、以下のようにして実施した。
まず、硬度70°のゴムを結晶MgO層の表面に約10g/cm2の一定荷重で押し付けて、3往復分擦る。そして、表面をIPAで洗浄した後に透過率を測定した。この透過率の測定結果を図7に示す。
Evaluation of the adhesion of the crystalline MgO layer was performed as follows.
First, rubber having a hardness of 70 ° is pressed against the surface of the crystalline MgO layer with a constant load of about 10 g / cm 2 and rubbed for three reciprocations. And the transmittance | permeability was measured after wash | cleaning the surface with IPA. The measurement results of this transmittance are shown in FIG.
As shown in FIG. 7, the substrate having the glass powder content of 0.1 wt% (Comparative Example 1-1, Example 1-1) has a transmittance of 80% or more, and the substrate having 3, 5, 10 wt% (Example). 1-2 to 1-4) shows that the transmittance is about 70%.
This is because the glass powder content of 0.1 wt% (Comparative Example 1-1, Example 1-1) has a small amount of glass frit formed by melting the glass powder, and single crystal MgO Alternatively, since the single crystal MgO and the dielectric layer are not sufficiently combined, the crystal MgO layer is peeled off, which means that the transmittance is much higher than 70% of the set transmittance. Moreover, the glass powder content rate of 3, 5 and 10 wt% (Examples 1-2 to 1-4) has a large amount of glass frit, and single crystal MgOs or single crystal MgO and dielectric layers. This means that the crystal MgO layer does not peel off and the transmittance does not change from 70% of the set transmittance.
From the above, it can be seen that the glass powder content needs to be 3 wt% or more in order to ensure sufficient adhesion of the crystalline MgO layer.
(塗工液におけるガラス粉体含有率と、規格化放電確率との関係)
次に、塗工液におけるガラス粉体含有率と、規格化放電確率との関係について調べた。
以下のような、実施例2−1〜2−4のPDPと、比較例2−1,2−2のPDPとを用意した。
(Relationship between glass powder content in coating liquid and normalized discharge probability)
Next, the relationship between the glass powder content in the coating solution and the normalized discharge probability was examined.
The following PDPs of Examples 2-1 to 2-4 and PDPs of Comparative Examples 2-1 and 2-2 were prepared.
Here, the configurations of the PDPs of Examples 2-1 to 2-4 and Comparative Examples 2-1 and 2-2 will be described.
When producing the PDPs of Examples 2-1 to 2-4, a thin film MgO layer is formed on the dielectric layer by using, for example, a vapor deposition method. Then, on the thin-film MgO layer, the above-described
When producing the PDP of Comparative Example 2-1, the above-described Example of Comparative Example 1-1 (glass powder content: 0 wt%) on the thin-film MgO layer, that is, a crystalline MgO layer comprising only single-crystal MgO The PDP of Comparative Example 2-1 was manufactured by a normal process using the substrate on which the was formed.
The PDP of Comparative Example 2-2 has a configuration in which a crystalline MgO layer is not provided on the PDP of Comparative Example 2-1, that is, a configuration in which only a thin film MgO layer is formed as a protective layer. The configuration of the PDP of Comparative Example 2-2 is a general PDP configuration at present.
そして、比較例2−2のPDPの面内20点について、放電確率を調べた。この後、実施例2−1〜2−4、比較例2−1のPDPの面内20点について放電確率を調べ、比較例2−2の放電確率の平均値で規格化した確率を、規格化放電確率として算出した。この規格化放電確率の算出結果を図8に示す。 And the discharge probability was investigated about 20 points | pieces in the surface of PDP of the comparative example 2-2. Thereafter, the discharge probability was examined for 20 points in the surface of the PDPs of Examples 2-1 to 2-4 and Comparative Example 2-1, and the probability normalized by the average value of the discharge probability of Comparative Example 2-2 was determined as the standard. It was calculated as the probability of commutation discharge. The calculation result of the normalized discharge probability is shown in FIG.
From FIG. 8, it can be seen that the smaller the glass powder content, the smaller the in-plane variation, and the sufficiently increased discharge probability as compared with Comparative Example 2-2. In addition, the larger the glass powder content, the lower the discharge probability, and the glass powder content of 70 wt% (Example 2-4) has a normalized discharge probability of about 1 and Comparative Example 2-2. It can be seen that there is no significant difference in performance.
This is because as the glass powder content increases, the adhesion of the crystalline MgO layer improves, but the amount of glass frit increases, so the coverage of single crystal MgO by the glass frit increases, the surface area decreases, and discharge occurs. This means that the probability will decrease.
From the above, it can be seen that in order to obtain a better discharge probability than the current general PDP (Comparative Example 2-2), the glass powder content needs to be 50 wt% or less. Further, in order to obtain a discharge probability similar to that of PDP (Comparative Example 2-1) in which the crystal MgO layer is composed only of single crystal MgO and the single crystal MgO is not covered with the glass frit, the discharge probability is maximized. It can be seen that the frit content must be 30 wt% or less.
(塗工液におけるガラス粉体含有率と、PDPの寿命との関係)
次に、塗工液におけるガラス粉体含有率と、PDPの寿命との関係について調べた。
上述した実施例2−1,2−4、比較例2−1,2−2のPDPを用意した。
(Relationship between glass powder content in coating liquid and PDP life)
Next, the relationship between the glass powder content in the coating solution and the life of the PDP was examined.
The PDPs of Examples 2-1 and 2-4 and Comparative Examples 2-1 and 2-2 described above were prepared.
The lifetimes of the PDPs of Examples 2-1 and 2-4 and Comparative Examples 2-1 and 2-2 were evaluated based on the deterioration of luminance.
As a result, the deterioration in luminance of the PDP provided with the single crystal MgO (Examples 2-1 and 2-4, Comparative Example 2-1) was caused by the PDP provided with MgO by the evaporation method (Comparative Example 2-2). It was confirmed that it was smaller. Further, the PDPs (Examples 2-1 and 2-4) provided with the single crystal MgO and the glass frit are substantially equal in luminance, and the PDPs provided with only the single crystal MgO (Comparative Example 2-1). ).
This means that the bonding between the crystalline MgO layer and the thin film MgO layer is strengthened by the glass frit, and the single crystal MgO is less likely to be scattered during discharge. Single crystal MgO is more resistant to sputtering because it has better crystallinity than MgO of the thin-film MgO layer, and if the adhesion to the substrate is strong, it will contribute to improving discharge characteristics stably for a long time.
Further, when the MgO of Examples 2-1 and 2-4 and Comparative Examples 2-1 and 2-2 corresponding to the use after 50000 hours was observed with a SEM (scanning electron microscope), the PDP without the crystalline MgO layer ( In Comparative Example 2-2), MgO provided by the vapor deposition method is a columnar crystal and the strength as the crystal is weak, so MgO on the edge of the sustain electrode is dug by sputtering, and the underlying dielectric layer It was confirmed that was exposed.
Further, it was confirmed that the PDP provided with only the single crystal MgO (Comparative Example 2-1) had some MgO on the edge of the sustain electrode dug.
Further, in the PDP (Examples 2-1 and 2-4) provided with single crystal MgO and glass frit, traces of MgO scattering cannot be confirmed, and MgO on single crystal MgO grows in a polycrystalline or amorphous state. It was confirmed that there was less than PDP (Comparative Example 2-1) without a glass frit.
This means that the bonding between the crystalline MgO layer and the thin film MgO layer is strengthened by the glass frit, and the single crystal MgO is less likely to be scattered during discharge, so that the MgO on the edge of the sustain electrode is not scattered.
Further, the afterimage characteristics (luminance afterimage) of the PDP with the glass frit (Examples 2-1 and 2-4) are better than the PDP without the glass frit (Comparative Example 2-1). It was confirmed that.
This indicates that the PDP provided with the glass frit has a strong bonding force between the crystalline MgO layer and the thin film MgO layer, so that the generation of luminance afterimage is reduced as compared with the PDP not provided with the glass frit. Specifically, the afterimage associated with MgO is related to the state of MgO. That is, when a certain part of cells is discharged, MgO generated by sputtering or the like is transferred from the cells to surrounding cells. Then, when this cell is discharged, MgO that has been blown off increases the luminance as compared with other portions and causes an afterimage phenomenon.
For this reason, in the PDP not provided with the glass frit (Comparative Example 2-1), afterimage is likely to occur because MgO is easily scattered. The PDP with the glass frit has the same degree of afterimage as the PDP without the crystalline MgO layer (Comparative Example 2-2), and the PDP without the glass frit (Comparative Example 2- Compared with 1), good results were obtained.
〔実施形態の効果〕
上述したように、上記実施の形態におけるPDP1によれば、以下の効果を奏することができる。
[Effect of the embodiment]
As described above, according to the

For this reason, the discharge probability is made the same as that in which the

Therefore, by forming the thin-

[Modification of Embodiment]
It should be noted that the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and modifications, improvements, and the like within the scope that can achieve the object of the present invention are included in the present invention.
For example, in the above embodiment, the glass powder content is 3 wt% or more and 30 wt% or less, but may be less than 3 wt% as long as the glass powder is contained, or 30 wt% or more. May be 50 wt% or more. Even in such a configuration, the bonding force between the
前記実施形態では、ガラス粉体の塩基度を単結晶MgO342Aの塩基度よりも高くしたが、これに限らず低くしてもよい。このような構成により、ガラス粉体の材質が限定されることがなくなるので、ガラス粉体の調達を容易にできる。 In the above embodiment, the basicity of the glass powder is set higher than that of the single crystal MgO342A. With such a configuration, the material of the glass powder is not limited, so that the glass powder can be easily procured.
前記実施形態では、MgO粉体を単結晶MgO342Aからなるとしたが、多結晶あるいはアモルファスのMgOからなる構成としてもよい。このような構成により、MgO粉体の材質が限定されることがなくなるので、MgO粉体の調達を容易にできる。
In the embodiment, the MgO powder is made of
In the embodiment, the thin
For this reason, it is preferable to use a coating method capable of increasing the concentration of single crystal MgO342A in the coating solution, that is, a method using screen printing, a die coater, or a film.
When the spray method is used, it is difficult to apply single crystal MgO342A at a high density because the particles are likely to aggregate when the mist particles are dried. For this reason, it is necessary to add a dispersing agent to increase the adhesion with the
On the other hand, when using a method that utilizes screen printing, die coater, or film, high-density coating is easy to implement, but when using a binder, the binder resin can be completely removed, and the reaction gas generated when the binder is removed. Therefore, it is necessary to select a single crystal MgO342A whose discharge probability does not decrease. For such a binder, a dispersant having a high molecular weight and a high viscosity can also be selected.
