Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an oscillator whose oscillation frequency is controlled by an input current or voltage.
However, the delay time of each logic inversion means is affected by variations in element characteristics and temperature or power supply voltage fluctuations. As a result, the oscillation frequency obtained from the ring oscillator is unstable. The accuracy of the oscillation frequency of the conventional ring oscillator is ± 30% with respect to the desired frequency.
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide an oscillator that can reduce the influence of variations in element characteristics and fluctuations in temperature or power supply voltage and obtain a more stable oscillation frequency.
In order to achieve the above object, an oscillator according to the present invention has the following characteristics.
The oscillator according to the present invention is an oscillator having variable frequency oscillation means whose oscillation frequency is controlled by an input current or voltage, and a frequency-voltage conversion means for outputting a voltage according to the oscillation frequency of the variable frequency oscillation means, Comparing the voltage output from the frequency-voltage converting means with the first reference voltage and outputting a difference between them, and supplying the output from the comparing means to the variable frequency oscillating means Thus, the oscillation frequency of the variable frequency oscillating means is controlled.
As a result, it is possible to reduce the influence of variations in element characteristics and fluctuations in temperature or power supply voltage, and to obtain a more stable oscillation frequency.
Preferably, in the oscillator according to the present invention, the frequency-voltage conversion means includes a switched capacitor circuit having a switch that is switched in accordance with an oscillation frequency of the variable frequency oscillation means, and has an equivalent resistance value of the switched capacitor circuit. Based on this, a voltage corresponding to the oscillation frequency is generated.
Since the frequency characteristics of the switched capacitor circuit that does not use a coil are used in this way, the circuit scale is small and it is easy to make an IC.
Preferably, in the oscillator according to the present invention, the frequency-voltage conversion unit includes a frequency-current conversion unit and a current-voltage conversion unit, and the frequency-current conversion unit sets a predetermined point at the second point. Reference voltage setting means for setting to a reference voltage, and a switched capacitor circuit having a switch that is switched according to the oscillation frequency of the variable frequency oscillation means, the second reference voltage being set by the reference voltage setting means A point and the switched capacitor circuit are connected, and a current corresponding to the oscillation frequency is caused to flow through the switched capacitor circuit. The current-voltage conversion unit includes a resistor, and the resistor is connected to the resistor by the frequency-current conversion unit. By supplying a current corresponding to the converted current, the current corresponding to the oscillation frequency is converted into a voltage.
As described above, since the frequency-current converting means for feeding back the oscillation frequency and the current-voltage means are provided as the frequency-voltage converting means, it becomes possible to accurately adjust the voltage for controlling the oscillation frequency, As a result, a more accurate oscillation frequency can be obtained.
According to the oscillator of the present invention, by using the frequency characteristics of the switched capacitor circuit, it is possible to obtain a stable oscillation frequency that is less affected by variations in element characteristics and changes in temperature or power supply voltage.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 2 is a block diagram showing the basic configuration of the oscillator according to the present invention. The
The frequency-voltage converting means 22 outputs a voltage V1 that changes according to the oscillation frequency fosc of the variable frequency oscillating means 21. Although details will be described later, the frequency-voltage converting means 22 has a switched capacitor circuit composed of, for example, a capacitor and a switch that is switched according to the oscillation frequency, and is equivalent to the capacitance of the capacitor and the switch that is switched. A resistor (equivalent resistance) can be realized, and a voltage corresponding to the oscillation frequency can be generated based on the value of the equivalent resistance. With this voltage, the oscillation frequency of the variable frequency oscillating means 21 can be controlled to compensate for the fluctuation.
As such frequency-voltage conversion means, a voltage directly derived from a voltage generated in the switched capacitor circuit is input to a later comparator, and a current flowing through the switched capacitor circuit is converted into a voltage and converted. There is a method of inputting the measured voltage to a later comparator.

The frequency-voltage conversion means 32 is a means for outputting a voltage corresponding to the oscillation frequency fosc of the
In the switched
In the reference voltage setting means 39, the source of the FET M5 is connected to the point A as described above, the drain terminal is connected to the power supply VDD via the P-channel FET M6 of the current-voltage conversion means 37, and the gate is Connected to the output terminal of the operational amplifier OP1. The reference voltage Vref1 is applied to the non-inverting input terminal of the operational amplifier OP1, and the inverting input terminal is connected to the ground via the capacitor C1. The source of the FET M5 is further connected to a connection point between the input terminal on the inverting side of the operational amplifier OP1 and the capacitor C1. When the reference voltage Vref1 is applied to the non-inverting input terminal of the operational amplifier OP1, the voltage at the point A becomes equal to the reference voltage Vref1 regardless of the load. Since the voltage at point A is Vref1, the current of formula (1) flows through point A.
I1=Vref1×(C2×fosc) ・・・(1)
I1 = Vref1 × (C2 × fosc) (1)
This current I1 is an output current of the frequency-current conversion means 36, and changes according to the oscillation frequency fosc of the
V1=I1×R=Vref1×(C2×fosc)×R ・・・(2)
The current-voltage conversion means 37 is a means for converting the output current of the frequency-current conversion means 36 into a voltage, and has P-channel FETs M6 and M7 and a resistor R constituting a current mirror circuit. In the current-voltage conversion means 37, the drains of the FETs M6 and M7 are connected to the power supply VDD. Further, as described above, the source of the FET M6 is connected to the drain of the FET M5 of the frequency-current converting means 36. The source of the FET M7 is connected to one terminal of the resistor R. The other terminal of the resistor R is connected to ground. Since the FETs M6 and M7 form a current mirror circuit, the current flowing through the resistor R becomes equal to the output current I1 of the frequency-current conversion circuit. Accordingly, the voltage generated at both ends of the resistor R, that is, the voltage V1 converted and output by the current-voltage converting means 25 is expressed by the following equation (2).
V1 = I1 × R = Vref1 × (C2 × fosc) × R (2)
And changes according to the oscillation frequency fosc of the current controlled
The comparison means 33 is a means for comparing the output voltage of the frequency-voltage conversion means 32 with a reference voltage and outputting the result as a voltage signal, and has a comparator OP2 represented in the form of an operational amplifier in this embodiment. In the comparison means 33, the voltage V1 output from the current-voltage conversion means 37 is supplied to the inverting input terminal of the operational amplifier OP2, and the reference voltage Vref2 is supplied to the non-inverting input terminal of the operational amplifier. . The operational amplifier OP2 compares the voltage V1 with the reference voltage Vref2, and outputs the result. The signal output by the operational amplifier OP2 is input to the voltage-
The voltage-
Since the oscillation frequency fosc of the
[Operation]
Next, the operation of the oscillator shown in FIG. 3 will be described. The signal of the oscillation frequency fosc outputted from the
fosc=Vref2/(Vref1×C2×R) ・・・(3)
The oscillation frequency fosc of the

Can be expressed as Therefore, the oscillation frequency fosc of the current controlled
FIG. 4 shows a case where the frequency-voltage converting means 32 of FIG. 3 is modified. The other components of the oscillator other than the frequency-voltage converting means 42 shown in FIG. 4 are the same as those in FIG.
The frequency-voltage converting means 42 in FIG. 4 is a means for outputting a voltage corresponding to the oscillation frequency fosc of a current-controlled oscillator 31 (not shown), similar to the frequency-voltage converting means 32 in FIG. A
V3=Vref1×(C2×fosc)−1/((C2×fosc)−1+R1) ・・・(4)

And changes according to the oscillation frequency fosc of the current controlled
Next, the point C of the frequency-
fosc=(Vref1−Vref2)/(Vref2×C2×R1) ・・・(5)
The resulting oscillation frequency fosc is given by the following equation (5)
fosc = (Vref1−Vref2) / (Vref2 × C2 × R1) (5)
As in the equation (3) obtained in the first embodiment, the stability of the oscillation frequency is determined by the capacitor C2 and the resistor R1.
According to the present invention, the oscillation frequency is determined by the first and second reference voltages, the capacitor of the switched capacitor circuit, and the resistor. When a resistor is externally attached, the oscillator is determined only by the capacitor. Generally, a capacitor has less variation due to a power supply voltage or temperature than a resistor. Therefore, an oscillator that oscillates at a more stable frequency can be obtained without depending on variations due to power supply voltage or temperature.
[Modification]
As an embodiment of the oscillator according to the present invention, a circuit using a current controlled oscillator as the variable frequency oscillating means is shown, but a configuration using a VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) can also be used. In this case, the voltage-current conversion circuit shown in this specification is not used, and a DC-DC converter or the like is used, or the output voltage of the comparison means is controlled by the VCO without using such a conversion circuit. It can be considered that the voltage is adjusted to an appropriate potential and directly input to the VCO. Further, it can be fully considered that the components of the oscillator according to the present invention adopt configurations other than the examples given in this specification.
