Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrophotographic image printing apparatus, in particular, an image printing apparatus for writing a latent image on an electro-optical panel in which electro-optical elements such as light emitting elements or light valve elements are arranged, and an adjustment method and manufacturing of the image printing apparatus. Regarding the method.
In order to write an electrostatic latent image on an image carrier (for example, a photosensitive drum) of an electrophotographic image printing apparatus, for example, an array panel of an electroluminescent element (hereinafter referred to as an “EL element”) or a liquid crystal panel A technology using an electro-optical panel has been developed. In such a technique, generally, a converging lens array is disposed between an electro-optical panel and an image carrier (for example, Patent Documents 1 to 4). As the converging lens array, for example, there is SLA (Selfoc Lens Array) available from Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (Selfoc \ SELFOC is a registered trademark of Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd.).
FIG. 1 is a perspective view schematically showing a part of a conventional image printing apparatus using a converging lens array. In this image printing apparatus, the
In such an image printing apparatus, the distance between the electro-optical panel and the focusing lens array (working distance L 0 on the object side) and the distance between the focusing lens array and the photosensitive surface of the image carrier (working distance on the image plane side). L 1 ) has a great influence on the resolution of the image on the photosensitive surface, and thus on the print quality. Therefore, a technique for adjusting the working distance on the object side and the working distance on the image plane side of the converging lens array has been proposed. For example, each of Patent Documents 1 to 3 discloses a mechanism for adjusting the working distance on the image plane side. In general, in these adjustment methods, the distance is adjusted so that the measured distance matches the design value, or the measured working distance on the image plane side that has already been fixed is the working distance measured on the object side. Adjust the working distance on the object side so that they match. Patent Document 4 discloses a technique for arranging an exposure unit and a converging lens array at a reference position so that a predetermined working distance on the object side can be obtained.
Patent Document 5 discloses a mechanism for adjusting the working distance on the image plane side and a mechanism for adjusting the working distance on the object side. Also, in Patent Document 5, an image of a light emitting element that has passed through a converging lens array is taken with a camera, and the light emitting element is opposed to the light emitting element so that the camera is in focus and the captured image of the light emitting element becomes clear. A method for adjusting the position of a converging lens array is disclosed.
However, for a method of adjusting the distance so that the measured distance matches the predetermined value, it is very difficult to measure the distance without error. In addition, since there are manufacturing variations in the converging lens array, it is not always necessary to match the working distance on the object side or the working distance on the image plane side to a predetermined value in order to improve the resolution when an actual converging lens array is used. Not connected.
Furthermore, the ideal value or design value of the working distance on the object side of the converging lens array and the ideal value or design value of the working distance on the image plane side are generally equal to each other, possibly due to manufacturing variations. These can be different. Also, depending on the characteristics of the emission wavelength or transmission wavelength of the electro-optical panel or the refraction of the layers in the panel, making the working distance on the object side equal to the working distance on the image plane side may not necessarily improve the resolution.
In the adjustment method of Patent Document 5, even when the camera is focused on the light emitting element that has passed through the converging lens, a process of combining the light emitting panel and the converging lens array with the image carrier is necessary. Due to variations in mounting in this step and manufacturing variations of the alignment jig of the focusing lens array with respect to the image carrier, high resolution is not always obtained.
Accordingly, the present invention provides an image printing apparatus capable of improving the print quality actually obtained, and a method for adjusting and manufacturing the image printing apparatus.
In the image printing apparatus according to the present invention, an image carrier, a charger for charging the image carrier, and a plurality of electro-optical elements whose light emission characteristics or light transmission characteristics are changed by applied electric energy are arranged. An electro-optical panel, and a plurality of gradient index lenses that transmit light traveling from the electro-optical panel so that an erect image with respect to the image on the electro-optical panel can be formed on the image carrier. A converging lens array for forming a latent image on a charged surface of the image carrier so that an image obtained by the gradient index lens forms one continuous image, and toner on the latent image Between the developing unit for forming a visible image on the image carrier, a transfer unit for transferring the visible image from the image carrier to another object, and between the electro-optical panel and the focusing lens array. And the convergence level Zuarei and is interposed at least one of between the image bearing member, and an the electro-optical panel, a transparent member disposed in a position away from the converging lens array and said image bearing member.
Here, the “electro-optical element” means an element whose optical characteristics (light emission characteristics or light transmission characteristics) are changed by given electrical energy. As an element whose optical characteristics are changed by electric energy, a light emitting element (for example, an electroluminescent light emitting element or a plasma display element) that converts electric energy into optical energy and a light transmittance by electric energy. There are light valve pixels that change (eg, liquid crystal pixels, electrophoretic display pixels). An “electro-optical panel” is a panel provided with an array of electro-optical elements.
According to the configuration of the invention, a transparent member is interposed between at least one of the electro-optical panel and the converging lens array and between the converging lens array and the image carrier. effective.
First, when a transparent member is interposed between the electro-optical panel and the converging lens array, the image on the electro-optical panel is focused on the converging lens array as compared with the case where only the air layer is interposed. The distance between the electro-optical panel and the converging lens array suitable for matching is different (usually longer). From another viewpoint, when the distance between the electro-optic panel and the converging lens array is fixed, and the distance is different from the actual working distance in air on the electro-optic panel side of the converging lens array, By disposing the transparent member between them, it is possible to substantially change the working distance so as to match the fixed distance between the electro-optical panel and the converging lens array. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the focus mismatch between the electro-optic panel and the converging lens array, and to improve the actually obtained print quality.
In addition, when a transparent member is interposed between the converging lens array and the image carrier, the image of the light emitted from the converging lens array is transferred to the image carrier as compared with the case where only the air layer is interposed. On the other hand, the distance between the focusing lens array and the image carrier suitable for imaging in the focus alignment state is different (usually longer). From another viewpoint, when the distance between the focusing lens array and the image carrier is fixedly fixed and the distance is different from the actual working distance in the air on the image carrier side of the focusing lens array, By disposing the transparent member between them, it is possible to substantially change the working distance so as to match the fixed distance between the converging lens array and the image carrier. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the image carrier and the focusing lens array from being out of focus and to improve the actually obtained print quality.
前記透明部材には、AR(antireflection)コートが施されていると好ましい。 The transparent member is preferably provided with an AR (antireflection) coat. The anti-reflection function of the AR coating can improve the proportion of light reaching the image carrier among the light emitted from the electro-optical panel (or the light transmitted through the electro-optical panel), and the light utilization efficiency It is possible to increase.
In this image printing apparatus, the refractive index of each light transmissive element between the electro-optic element of the electro-optic panel and the converging lens array is n i , and the thickness of each light transmissive element is d i , When the number of these light transmitting elements is m and the working distance in the air on the electro-optical panel side of the converging lens array is L 0 , it is preferable to satisfy the formula (1). By satisfying the relationship of the expression (1), the image on the electro-optical panel is substantially in focus alignment with the converging lens array. The working distance L 0 used in the equation (1) may be a design value of the working distance L 0 , but a value obtained by actual measurement is preferable.
Further, the refractive index of each of the light transmissive elements between the image carrier and the converging lens array is n i , the thickness of each of these light transmissive elements is d j , and the number of these light transmissive elements is k, where L 1 is the working distance in the air on the image carrier side of the converging lens array, it is preferable that the expression (2) is satisfied. By satisfying the relationship of Expression (2), the image of the light emitted from the converging lens array is connected to the image carrier in a focus-matched state. The working distance L 1 used in the equation (2) may be a design value of the working distance L 0 , but is preferably a value obtained by actual measurement.

In this embodiment, cap sealing is used. Specifically, the peripheral portion of the sealing
The light emitted from each

<Evidence of effect of embodiment>
FIG. 7 shows the light in the case where a solid light-transmitting element TR1 and an air layer exist between the actual light emitting position and the gradient index lens 42 (see FIGS. 4 and 5) of the converging
In FIG. 7, P a represents a point which is emitting position of focus matching state actually relative
nb・sinθb≒sinθb=na・sinθa ...(10)
na>nb≒1なので、θb>θaである。
In FIG. 7, equation (10) is established from Snell's law.
n b · sin θ b ≈sin θ b = n a · sin θ a . . . (10)
Here, n b is the refractive index of air, theta b is the angle of incidence of the air at the interface between the light transmissive element TR1 and the air, n a is the refractive index of the transmissive element TR1, theta a is It is an emission angle from the light transmitting element TR1 at the interface between the light transmitting element TR1 and air. Since n a > n b ≈1, θ b > θ a .
tanθa=α/da ...(11)
tanθb=α/db ...(12)
Moreover, in FIG. 7, Formula (11) and Formula (12) are materialized.
tan θ a = α / d a . . . (11)
tan θ b = α / d b . . . (12)
Here, d a is the thickness of the light transmissive element TR1, d b is the distance to the interface between the point P b on the virtual emission position of the transmissive element TR1 and the air.
db=da・cosθb/na・cosθa ...(13)
Expression (13) is obtained from Expression (10) to Expression (12).
d b = d a · cos θ b / n a · cos θ a . . . (13)
db=da/na ...(14)
In a paraxial optical system using the converging
d b = d a / n a . . . (14)
When the thickness of the air layer between the transmissive element TR1 and the converging
L0=db+dc=da/na+dc ...(15) L 0 = d b + d c = d a / n a + d c. . . (15)
Further, as apparent from the above description, the light transmission element TR1 having a refractive index higher than that of air is interposed between the light emitting position and the converging
FIG. 8A shows an example of the light path when the light transmitting element TR1 is adjacent to the light entrance of the
FIG. 9A shows a solid light transmissive element TR1 and a solid light transmissive element having the same refractive index as that of the light transmissive element TR1 between the actual light emitting position and the
In FIGS. 9 (a) and 9 (b), P b, when the light transmissive element TR1, TR2 is assumed that there is only air without between the converging
nb・sinθb≒sinθb=na・sinθa=nd・sinθd ...(16)
na>nb≒1なので、θb>θaである。
In FIG. 9A and FIG. 9B, Expression (16) is established from Snell's law.
n b · sinθ b ≒ sinθ b = n a · sinθ a = n d · sinθ d. . . (16)
Here, nb is the refractive index of air, and θ b is an emission angle from the air at the interface between the air and the light transmissive element TR1 when it is assumed that there is no light transmissive element TR2 (see FIG. 9). n a is the refractive index of the light transmissive element TR 1 , θ a is the incident angle to the light transmissive element TR 1 at the interface between the air and the light transmissive element TR 1 when it is assumed that there is no light transmissive element TR 2, The incident angle to the light transmissive element TR1 at the interface between the light transmissive element TR2 and the light transmissive element TR1 when the light transmissive element TR2 is present. Since n a > n b ≈1, θ b > θ a . Also, n d is the refractive index of the light transmissive element TR2, and θ d is the emission angle from the light transmissive element TR2 at the interface between the light transmissive element TR2 and the light transmissive element TR1 when the light transmissive element TR2 is present. is there. Since n d > n b ≈1, θ b > θ d . Further, in FIG. 9 (a), since the refractive index of the transmissive element TR1 n a and a refractive index n d of the transmissive element TR2 is equal, a θ d = θ a.
tanθd=β/dd ...(17)
tanθb=β/dc ...(18)
Further, in FIG. 9A and FIG. 9B, Expression (17) and Expression (18) are established.
tan θ d = β / d d . . . (17)
tan θ b = β / d c . . . (18)
Here, d d is the thickness of the light transmissive element TR2, the distance from d c is a point P a on the virtual emission position to the interface between the light transmissive element TR2 and the transmissive element TR1.

Expression (19) is obtained from Expression (16) to Expression (18).
d c = d d · cos θ b / n d · cos θ d . . . (19)

L0=db+dc=da/na+dc=da/na+dd/nd ...(21)
Substituting d c of the formula (20) in the formula obtained in FIG. 8 (15), equation (21) is obtained.
L 0 = d b + d c = d a / n a + d c = d a / n a + d d / n d . . . (21)
L0=da/na+dd/nd=(da+dd)/na ...(22)
In FIG. 9 (a), since the refractive index of the transmissive element TR1 n a and a refractive index n d of the transmissive element TR2 is equal, equation (22) is obtained.
L 0 = d a / n a + d d / n d = (d a + d d ) / n a . . . (22)

Next, another embodiment of the image printing apparatus according to the present invention will be described.
FIG. 11 is an overall longitudinal sectional view of another image printing apparatus according to the embodiment. This image printing apparatus is a rotary development type full-color image printing apparatus using a belt intermediate transfer body system. In the image printing apparatus shown in FIG. 11, a
