図２及び図３に基づいて、再生装置１の通常再生時にサーチが行われる動作例を以下に説明する。再生装置１に挿入された、若しくは再生装置１に備える記憶媒体２から、映像／音声信号を復調し、Ｓ１にて記録媒体２が再生手段３により再生中の際、Ｓ２にてリモコン８若しくは操作手段７の操作キーとしての「早送り」ボタンが押された場合には、Ｓ３にて「早送り」ボタンの操作に応じて、制御手段５のサーチ／スロー処理部５１により、通常の再生速度の約２倍の速さでサーチが開始されると共に、再生装置１と接続されている例えばテレビなどの表示部１１に、メモリ５４から呼び出された再生マーク６０が制御手段５により１つ表示される。続いてＳ４にて、再度、「早送り」ボタンの押下操作を行うと、Ｓ５にて、制御手段５のサーチ／スロー処理部５１により、通常のサーチ速度の約８倍の速さでサーチが開始されると共に、制御手段５によりメモリ５４から呼び出された再生マーク６０が表示部１１に２つ表示される。続いてＳ６にて、再度、「早送り」ボタンの押下操作を行うと、Ｓ７にて、サーチ／スロー処理部５１により、通常のサーチ速度の約５０倍の速さでサーチが開始されると共に、制御手段５によりメモリ５４から呼び出された再生マーク６０が表示部１１に３つ表示される。続いてＳ８にて、再度、「早送り」ボタンの押下操作を行うと、Ｓ９にてサーチ／スロー処理部５１により、通常のサーチ速度の約１００倍の速さでサーチが開始されると共に、制御手段５によりメモリ５４から呼び出された再生マークが表示部１１に４つ表示されると共に「ＭＡＸ」が表示される。ここでＳ１０にて、「早送り」ボタンの押下操作を行った際には、Ｓ１１にて、制御手段５が再生ボタンや停止ボタンなどのサーチを終了するボタンが押されたか否かを判別し、Ｓ１２にてサーチを終了する。なお、前述したＳ４、Ｓ６、Ｓ８にて、「早送り」ボタンの押下操作が行われない時にはＳ１１に進み、また、Ｓ１にて復調した映像／音声信号が再生中でない場合にはＳ１に戻り、Ｓ２にてリモコン８若しくは操作手段７の「早送り」ボタンが押されない場合にはＳ２に戻る。
