Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electro-optical device and an electronic device, and more particularly, to an electro-optical device including a flexible circuit board on which a light source is mounted, and an electronic device including such an electro-optical device.
Conventionally, as one aspect of an electro-optical device for displaying an image, a pair of substrates each having an electrode formed thereon are disposed opposite to each other, and a voltage applied to a plurality of pixels that are intersecting regions of the electrodes is selectively turned on. There is a liquid crystal device that, by turning off, modulates light passing through a liquid crystal material of the pixel and displays an image such as a picture or a character.
In such a liquid crystal device, as a lighting device for performing transmissive display, a light source such as an LED is mounted on a flexible flexible circuit board (FPC) for the purpose of reducing the thickness and size of the liquid crystal device. A lighting device is used in which a light source is arranged at an edge portion of a light guide plate and light emitted from the light source is guided to a liquid crystal panel.
However, in the liquid crystal device described in Patent Document 1, the light source is arranged at a predetermined position on the end of the light guide plate, and the light emitting FPC on which the light source is mounted is not folded and does not overlap the light guide plate as it is. Therefore, if a force is applied to the derived FPC, the FPC at the light source mounting position may be shifted or floated. For this reason, the position of the light source with respect to the light guide plate is shifted, and the amount of light entering the light guide plate may be reduced, or the light intensity may be partially different. In such a case, the problem that the brightness | luminance of the image displayed falls or a brightness nonuniformity arises was seen.
Although the problem of the positional deviation of the light source can be temporarily prevented by fixing the FPC and the light guide plate with an adhesive tape having a strong adhesive force, the high temperature and high humidity environment due to long-term use. Below, the adhesive strength could not be maintained, and there was a possibility that the light source would be misaligned. In addition, when such an adhesive tape having a strong adhesive force is used, there is a problem that it becomes an obstacle when repairing a product in the manufacturing stage.
Accordingly, the inventors of the present invention have made diligent efforts, arranged the light source at a predetermined position, and led the flexible circuit board on which the light source is mounted to a region that does not overlap the light guide plate by a predetermined folding structure. The inventors have found that the problem can be solved and completed the present invention.
That is, the present invention provides an electro-optical device capable of preventing the positional deviation of a light source even when a flexible circuit board led out to a region that does not overlap with a light guide plate is pushed or pulled. With the goal. Another object of the present invention is to provide an electronic apparatus including such an electro-optical device.
According to the present invention, an electro-optical panel having an electro-optical material, a light source that emits light incident on the electro-optical panel, a flexible circuit board on which the light source is mounted, and light emitted from the light source An electro-optical device including a light guide plate for guiding to the electro-optical panel, wherein the light source is disposed on one side of the light guide plate, and the flexible circuit board is in the vicinity of the light source mounting region on the surface on which the light source is mounted Is provided on the light guide plate and is led back to a region where the light guide plate does not overlap with the light guide plate, and the above-described problems can be solved.
In other words, the light source mounting region can be pressed against the light guide plate side by the bending reaction force of the flexible circuit substrate by folding the flexible circuit substrate and leading it out to the region that does not overlap the light guide plate. Therefore, even when the flexible circuit board is attached to the light guide plate in a relatively weak adhesive state, even when an external force is applied to the flexible circuit board led out to the area not overlapping the light guide plate. It is possible to prevent the positional deviation of the light source. Further, since the flexible circuit board is folded back, even if the derived flexible circuit board is slightly pulled, the tensile force is buffered by the folded-back portion, so that the light source can be hardly displaced. Accordingly, it is possible to provide an electro-optical device with excellent display quality by preventing a decrease in luminance and luminance unevenness in a displayed image.
In addition, if the configuration is such that the positional deviation of the light source does not easily occur, the adhesive force when the flexible circuit board is attached to the light guide plate can be made relatively weak, so that it has excellent repairability in the manufacturing stage. It can be an electro-optical device.

It can be made more difficult to occur.

With this configuration, even when a force is applied to the derived flexible circuit board, it is possible to make it difficult to transmit the force to the light source mounting region. It can be made more difficult to occur.

By comprising in this way, the number from the flexible substrate as a base material can be increased, and production cost can be suppressed low.

Thin is preferred.
By configuring in this way, the electro-optical panel does not float from the light guide plate, and it is possible to further prevent a decrease in luminance and luminance unevenness in the displayed image.

With this configuration, the electro-optical device can be easily attached at the manufacturing stage, while being excellent in repairability.

Here, the gate bus wiring and the gate electrode can be formed of chromium, tantalum, or the like, for example. Further, the semiconductor layer can be formed of, for example, doped a-Si, polycrystalline silicon, CdSe, or the like. Further, the contact electrode can be formed of, for example, a-Si, and the source electrode and the source bus wiring and the drain electrode integrated therewith can be formed of, for example, titanium, molybdenum, aluminum, or the like.

2. Illumination Device Next, an illumination device provided in the liquid crystal device of the present embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS.
As shown in FIGS. 3A to 3B, the illumination device provided in the liquid crystal device of the present embodiment is mounted with a
Here, as the
The
The
Further, although not shown, the light source driving FPC is configured by covering a wiring pattern with an insulating film except for a light source mounting region and a terminal portion.
Here, the liquid crystal device according to the present embodiment is characterized in that the light source driving FPC is led out to an area that is folded back and does not overlap the light guide plate.
For example, in the example shown in FIGS. 4A to 4B, the light
In the example shown in FIGS. 5A to 5B, the light
That is, since the
Furthermore, since it is possible to prevent the positional deviation from occurring in this way, it is possible to reduce the adhesive force when attaching the driving FPC and the light guide plate. For example, in the manufacturing stage, a defect is found only in the light source part. In such a case, only the light source driving FPC can be easily peeled off. That is, repairability can be improved.
However, when considering the production cost and the prevention of positional deviation of the light source, it is preferable to adopt a configuration as shown in FIGS.
The reason for this is that the length of the light
Further, as shown in FIGS. 8A to 8B, the light
That is, when the width of the FPC is constant, when the FPC led out to a region that does not overlap the light guide plate is pulled in the lateral direction, the FPC attached to the light guide plate is near the end of the FPC folding position. It becomes easy to be pulled. Therefore, the light source is likely to be displaced.
On the other hand, when configured as shown in FIGS. 8A to 8C, even when the
Further, as shown in FIG. 8A, the
This is because it is possible to increase the number of substrates from the flexible substrate as a base material and to keep the production cost low.
Further, as shown in FIG. 1, a
This is because the liquid crystal panel can be prevented from floating from the light guide plate, and the liquid crystal panel can be brought into uniform contact with the light guide plate.
Therefore, light leakage from between the light guide plate and the liquid crystal panel can be prevented, and reduction in luminance and luminance unevenness in the displayed image can be prevented, so that the display quality of the displayed image can be improved.
Moreover, it is preferable to stick using the adhesive tape in sticking the vicinity of a light source mounting area | region with respect to a light guide plate in the surface in which the light source in FPC for light source drive was mounted.
This is because, in the manufacturing stage, it can be processed into a desired shape and can be easily attached to a predetermined location, while it can be peeled and removed relatively easily, and repairability can be improved. .
Moreover, as shown in FIG. 9, it is preferable to arrange the
This is because light leakage from the back side of the light source mounting surface in the light source mounting region can be prevented. Therefore, the amount of light incident on the liquid crystal panel can be increased to prevent a decrease in luminance of the displayed image.
As such a light shielding member, for example, a light reflecting light shielding member such as a metal plate such as aluminum or silver, or colored glass epoxy or acrylic resin can be used. With such a light shielding member, it is possible to efficiently reflect the light that has entered the back side of the light source and enter the light guide plate. However, it is preferable to use an electrically insulating material for the purpose of preventing a short circuit or the like.
In FIG. 9, it is preferable to arrange a heat radiating sheet instead of the light shielding member between the folded
The reason for this is to prevent the wiring pattern and the light source from generating heat as the light source is driven, so that heat is trapped in the narrow space between the folded FPCs and affects the driving of the light source. In addition, the FPC is prevented from being bent or thermally damaged by the heat.
As the heat dissipation sheet, for example, a metal sheet such as aluminum or silver can be used, and a sheet-like material in which conductive particles are dispersed can also be used. However, since the function as the above-described light shielding member can be exhibited, it is preferable to use a sheet in which conductive particles are dispersed in a metal sheet, a white glass epoxy resin, or the like.
3. Manufacturing Method Hereinafter, an example of a manufacturing method of the liquid crystal device of the present embodiment will be described.
First, a liquid crystal panel including an element substrate and a color filter substrate as a counter substrate that are arranged to face each other is manufactured.
An element substrate constituting such a liquid crystal panel is obtained by laminating various members on a glass substrate or the like as a substrate of the element substrate, so that a TFT element, a predetermined pattern scanning line, a predetermined pattern data line, an external connection terminal, etc. Are formed as appropriate. Next, after laminating a transparent conductive film such as ITO by sputtering or the like, pixel electrodes are formed in a matrix in the display region by photolithography and etching. Further, an alignment film made of polyimide is formed on the substrate surface on which the pixel electrode is formed. In this way, an element substrate on which various resin films and conductive films are formed is manufactured.
Next, by laminating various members on a glass substrate or the like as a base constituting a color filter substrate as a counter substrate, a colored layer or a light shielding film is appropriately formed. Next, after laminating a transparent conductive film such as ITO by sputtering or the like, a counter electrode over the entire display region is formed by photolithography and etching. Further, an alignment film made of polyimide is formed on the substrate surface on which the counter electrode is formed. In this way, a color filter substrate on which various resin films and conductive films are formed is manufactured.
Next, the color filter substrate and the element substrate are bonded to each other through a sealing material to form a cell structure, and a liquid crystal material is injected into the cell structure. Thereafter, by attaching a polarizing plate or the like on the outer surface of the color filter substrate and the element substrate, or by mounting a panel driving FPC on which a connector to which a terminal portion of the light source driving FPC described later is connected is mounted, A liquid crystal panel can be manufactured.
Next, an illumination device connected to the liquid crystal panel is manufactured.
First, a light source driving FPC and a light guide plate on which a light source is mounted are prepared, and the vicinity of the light source mounting region on the light source mounting surface side is attached to the light guide plate so that the light source is arranged on one side of the light guide plate. . At this time, the FPC is once arranged so as to extend on the light guide plate, and then folded back to the opposite side by 180 ° to be led out and fixed to a region not overlapping the light guide plate.
Next, the liquid crystal panel and the lighting device are both incorporated into the casing, and the terminal of the light source driving FPC led out to the area not overlapping with the light guide plate is connected to the connector of the panel driving FPC, whereby the liquid crystal of the present embodiment. The device can be manufactured.
