Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a light emitting device including a light emitting element such as an organic EL element that emits white light.
An organic electroluminescence (EL / Electroluminescence) device, etc. as an exposure head in a display device used in an electronic device such as a mobile phone, a personal computer or a PDA (Personal Digital Assistants), or an image forming device such as a digital copying machine or a printer The light emitting device has attracted attention.
In constructing this type of light-emitting device, in addition to the configuration in which an organic EL element that emits light corresponding to each color is formed in each of a plurality of pixels, in recent years, a light-emitting device that combines an organic EL element and a color filter of each color has been developed. It has been proposed (see, for example,
However, when a polymer material is used for the light emitting layer, it is difficult to form a multilayer structure because there is a restriction that the polymer material is applied and dried in a liquid phase. Further, white light must be generated by development of the material itself, but there is a problem that chromaticity adjustment is difficult because usable materials are limited.
In view of the above problems, an object of the present invention is to provide a light-emitting device that can emit white light from a light-emitting element by combining color light emitted from a light-emitting layer and color light in another wavelength region. There is.
In order to solve the above problems, in the present invention, in a light emitting device including a light emitting element in which at least an anode layer, a hole injection layer, a light emitting layer, and a cathode layer are stacked, the hole injection layer and the light emitting layer are The light emitting layer is made of a polymer material, and the light emitting layer generates a predetermined color light, and a layer containing a material that emits light at a wavelength different from that of the color light generated by the light emitting layer is interposed between the light emitting layer and the hole injection layer. An intermediate layer made of a molecular material is formed, and light emitted from the light emitting layer and light generated from the intermediate layer are synthesized from the light emitting element to emit white light.
In the present invention, the light generated by the light emitting layer and the light of different wavelengths are combined from the intermediate layer to emit white light. For this reason, according to the present invention, white light can be generated without using a special white light emitting material for the light emitting layer. In addition, since a simple structure in which an intermediate layer is formed between the hole injection layer and the light-emitting layer may be used, the hole injection layer, the intermediate layer, and the light-emitting layer are each formed by applying a liquid material of polymer material and drying. A manufacturing method of stacking can be adopted. Further, the intermediate layer may contain a dopant, the kind of the material constituting the intermediate layer or the dopant, the concentration of the dopant in the intermediate layer, the heat treatment condition for the intermediate layer, the material constituting the light emitting layer. There is an advantage that the whiteness of the white light can be controlled by the type, the type of the solvent contained in the liquid used in the light emitting layer forming step, and the heat treatment conditions for the light emitting layer.
In the present invention, for example, the light emitting layer generates blue light, and the intermediate layer emits light in a longer wavelength region than the blue light, whereby white light is emitted from the light emitting element. Alternatively, a configuration may be adopted in which the intermediate layer generates blue light, and the light emitting layer emits light in a longer wavelength region than the blue light, whereby white light is emitted from the light emitting element.
In this invention, when an intermediate | middle layer contains a dopant, it is preferable that the said dopant is contained also in the said light emitting layer in the interface vicinity of the said light emitting layer and the said intermediate layer. With this configuration, in the light emitting layer, the balance between holes and electrons is ensured near the interface between the intermediate layer and the light emitting layer, and the dopant is present near this interface, so the light emitted from the light emitting layer The dopant emits light efficiently.
In this invention, it is preferable that the said intermediate | middle layer is equipped with the electronic block property which can prevent the inflow of the electron from the said light emitting layer to the said intermediate | middle layer. With this configuration, it is possible to prevent electrons from passing through the light emitting layer without contributing to light emission, so that the light emission efficiency can be improved.
In the present invention, it is preferable that at least one of the material constituting the dopant and the polymer material constituting the intermediate layer is partially crosslinked.
When the light emitting device according to the present invention is configured for full color, a red pixel including the light emitting element and a red color filter, a green pixel including the light emitting element and a green color filter, and the light emitting element And a blue pixel provided with a blue color filter. According to such a full-color light emitting device, there is an advantage that it is not necessary to form a light emitting element for generating different color light in each pixel. Therefore, a spin coating method or a printing method can be used as a film forming method.
In the present invention, in a method for manufacturing a light emitting device including a light emitting element in which at least an anode layer, a hole injection layer, a light emitting layer and a cathode are laminated, a liquid material containing a polymer material for forming a hole injection layer is applied. A hole injection layer forming step of forming a hole injection layer by drying, and applying a liquid material containing a polymer material for forming a light emitting layer, and drying to form a predetermined layer on the upper layer side of the hole injection layer After performing the light emitting layer forming step for forming the light emitting layer for generating colored light and the hole injection layer forming step, and before performing the light emitting layer forming step, light is emitted at a wavelength different from that of the colored light generated by the light emitting layer. And applying a liquid material containing a material capable of emitting white light from the light emitting element and drying to form an intermediate layer forming an intermediate layer between the light emitting layer and the hole injection layer. And
In the present invention, in the light emitting layer forming step, a solvent in which a material for forming the intermediate layer is soluble as a liquid material containing the polymer material for forming the light emitting layer is used, and a part of the intermediate layer is used as the light emitting layer. It is preferable to move to.
In the present invention, when the intermediate layer contains a dopant, at least one of the material constituting the dopant and the polymer material constituting the intermediate layer includes a crosslinkable portion, In the intermediate layer forming step, it is preferable to perform a heat treatment for crosslinking or a light irradiation treatment after applying the liquid containing the dopant.
In the present invention, the kind of the material constituting the dopant or the intermediate layer, the concentration of the dopant in the intermediate layer, the heat treatment conditions for the intermediate layer, the kind of the material constituting the light emitting layer, and the light emitting layer forming step The whiteness degree of the white light is controlled by at least one of the kind of the solvent contained in the liquid material used and the heat treatment conditions for the light emitting layer.
A light-emitting device to which the present invention is applied is used as a display device in an electronic apparatus such as a mobile phone, a personal computer, or a PDA. A light emitting device to which the present invention is applied is used as an exposure head in an image forming apparatus such as a digital copying machine or a printer.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. In the drawings used for the following description, the scales are different for each layer and each member in order to make each layer and each member large enough to be recognized on the drawing.
(Basic structure of light emitting device)
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view schematically showing a configuration of an organic EL element (light emitting element) used in an organic EL device (light emitting device) to which the present invention is applied. FIG. 2 is an explanatory diagram showing a spectrum of light emitted from the organic EL element shown in FIG.
In FIG. 1, an
In the
In this embodiment, the
Further, the
The dopant is also contained in the
In this embodiment, polyTPD or polyTFB used as a host material in the
(Operation and effect of this form)
Thus, in the
Therefore, according to this embodiment, white light can be generated without using a special white light emitting material for the
In the present embodiment, the
Furthermore, in the
In addition, at least one of the material constituting the dopant and the polymer material constituting the intermediate layer has a crosslinkable site such as a vinyl group or an epoxy group, and is crosslinked by such a site. It is preferable. If comprised in this way, after forming the intermediate |

As shown in FIG. 3A, after the
Next, in the hole injection layer forming step shown in FIG. 3B, the polymer for forming the hole injection layer is formed from the droplet discharge head into the region surrounded by the
Next, in the intermediate layer forming step shown in FIG. 3C, as shown by the alternate long and short dash line, the

Next, in the light emitting layer forming step shown in FIG. 3D, as shown by the alternate long and short dash line, a liquid material containing a polymer material for forming the light emitting layer is formed from the droplet discharge head in the region surrounded by the
Therefore, in the light emitting layer forming step, part of the dopant of the
Moreover, after apply | coating the
Thereafter, the
In addition, a crosslinkable site such as a vinyl group or an epoxy group is introduced into at least one of the material constituting the dopant and the polymer material constituting the
When a light emitting layer is formed using a polymer material, there are significant restrictions on the laminated structure and materials used, but according to the manufacturing method of this embodiment, the type of material constituting the dopant, the dopant in the
In the above embodiment, a polymer material is used as an intermediate layer, and a dopant is mixed therewith. However, a polymer material that emits yellow to orange light, for example, MEH-PPV, is used as an intermediate layer. It does not have to be used.
In the above embodiment, the organic layer is formed by the inkjet method with the partition provided between the pixels. However, since the RGB pixels are colored using the color filter, it is not always necessary to pattern the courage layer for each pixel. Alternatively, a spin coating method or a printing method may be used.

The
In such an
