Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for polishing a glass surface that can be suitably used to obtain a flat thin glass.
Various flat panel displays such as liquid crystal displays, plasma displays, and organic electroluminescence displays are manufactured. FIG. 4 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing an example of a liquid crystal display panel as a kind of flat panel display panel. The illustrated liquid crystal display panel has a bonded structure in which liquid crystal is held between a pair of glass substrates.
On one glass substrate 7 constituting the liquid crystal display panel shown in the figure and serving as an image display surface, a polarizing plate 13 is laminated on the surface which becomes the outer surface after being bonded, and on the opposite surface, a color filter 9 is provided with a
Glass is used for the display panel like the illustrated glass substrate, and the glass surface is polished by immersing it in a polishing solution containing hydrogen fluoride before laminating the polarizing
However, the glass substrate targeted by the method described in
While the method described in
In view of the above circumstances, the present invention is capable of polishing the glass while suppressing the expansion of the scratch even when a scratch having a diameter of about 40 μm exists on the glass surface. It aims at providing the grinding | polishing method which is excellent in the flatness of the glass surface.
The inventor eliminates scratches with a shallow depth, and for other scratches, the glass surface is polished with a non-flowing polishing liquid exhibiting viscosity in order to remarkably suppress the expansion of the size, and then flows. The present inventors have found that the flatness of the glass surface is improved by bringing the polishing liquid in contact with the glass surface to complete the present invention.
That is, the present invention is a glass surface polishing method comprising a first chemical polishing step and a second chemical polishing step in which a polishing liquid is brought into contact with the surface to polish the glass. The glass surface is polished with a viscous polishing liquid in a state, and the glass surface is polished with a flowing polishing liquid in the second chemical polishing step. Here, the viscous polishing liquid is a polishing liquid containing a thickener to increase the viscosity, and means a polishing liquid that advances polishing in a state where it does not flow after being brought into contact with the glass surface. When the viscous polishing liquid is brought into contact with the glass substrate, for example, the glass is immersed in the viscous polishing liquid and the viscous polishing liquid is applied to the glass surface.
The polishing method of the present invention is a method capable of polishing regardless of the presence or absence of scratches on the glass surface. Even if there is a scratch having a diameter of 10 to 60 μm, polishing can be performed while suppressing the expansion of the diameter. . Here, the scratch means an irregular recess having a certain width when the glass substrate is observed from directly above. The diameter of the flaw means the maximum value of the flaw width. For example, when the flaw shape is an ellipse, it corresponds to the length of the major axis, and when the flaw shape is linear, it means the length of the linear portion.
In the method, it is preferable that a chemical mechanical polishing step is provided between the first chemical polishing step and the second chemical polishing step. In this step, since the surface of the low Ra glass is also increased in the first chemical polishing step, high-speed thinning polishing can be realized.
The glass substrate may have an arithmetic average roughness of an intact portion before the first chemical polishing step of 0.005 μm or less, and the viscosity of the viscous polishing liquid in the first chemical polishing step is 5 × 10 −5. It is good if it is 1 Pa · s or more.
Moreover, this invention is the glass substrate for flat panel displays grind | polished by the said method, and the flat panel display manufactured using this glass substrate.
According to the invention of the polishing method configured as described above, even when polishing a glass substrate having a surface with a scratch of 10 to 60 μm in diameter, the scratch is eliminated or sized in the first chemical polishing step. Polishing can be performed while suppressing enlargement, and the surface roughness increased in the first polishing step can be reduced in the second polishing step. Therefore, it is possible to provide polished glass with high flatness.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail based on embodiments. In this embodiment, the glass to be polished is a laminated glass substrate for a liquid crystal display panel in which a pair of rectangular glass substrates are bonded together, and the glass shown in FIG. 4 except that no polarizing plate is laminated on the outer surface. It is the same as the substrate. And in the present embodiment, the glass substrate, in which SiO 2 is 50 to 60 wt%, Al 2 O 3 is 16 to 18 wt%,
FIG. 1 is a partial cross-sectional schematic diagram showing a glass surface change due to polishing of the present embodiment. In FIG. 1, the upper surface of the
FIGS. 1A and 1B are diagrams showing changes in the glass surface in the first chemical polishing step, and FIG. 1A shows a state in which the first polishing liquid 3 is in contact with the surface of the
As shown in FIG. 1A, the first chemical polishing step is performed by bringing the first polishing liquid 3 into contact with the surface of the
As the first polishing liquid 3, a glass-soluble liquid having a temperature of 10 to 50 ° C. and a polishing rate of 0.5 μm / s or more is used. As this 1st polishing liquid 3, the aqueous solution which contained hydrogen fluoride as a glass melt | dissolution component is used suitably, and the hydrogen fluoride density | concentration at this time is good in it being 1 to 55 weight%. Further, the first polishing liquid 3 may contain one or more selected from hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and phosphoric acid.
Moreover, the 1st polishing liquid 3 uses what shows viscosity. The viscosity of the first polishing liquid 3 at this time is preferably 5 × 10 −1 to 5 × 10 5 Pa · s. Preferably, it is 5 × 10 1 Pa · s or more. Here, the viscosity is measured using a B-type viscometer with a rotor No. 4 is a value when the rotation speed is 0.3 rpm and the liquid temperature is measured under temperature conditions when the first polishing liquid 3 is used.
In order to adjust the viscosity of the polishing liquid 3, it is preferable to contain a thickener that can make the polishing liquid 3 viscous. As the thickener, one or more kinds may be selected from magnesium compounds, surfactants, flocculants, water-absorbing polymers, antifoaming agents, urea, natural sugars, adhesives, and the like. Examples of magnesium compounds include magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, magnesium nitrate, magnesium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium citrate, and magnesium acetate. Examples of the surfactant include ester, phenol, amide, fatty acid ester, phosphate ester, sulfonic acid, nonionic, amine, ether, and polymeric alcohols. The aggregating agent is not particularly limited, such as an anionic or cyanol type. The water absorbing polymer may be a synthetic or natural water absorbing polymer. In the case of using a thickener having low solubility in water, an organic solvent such as glycerin, ethylene glycol, ethanol or the like can be added to water and used as a solvent.
When the first polishing liquid 3 is brought into contact with the surface of the
Since the applied first polishing liquid 3 has viscosity, it does not flow on the surface of the
As shown in FIG. 1B, the
FIG.1 (c) is a figure showing the
As the first polishing liquid, a glass-soluble liquid is used as the second polishing liquid. The second polishing liquid may be one having a polishing rate of 0.5 to 20 μm / min, and preferably has a polishing rate of 0.5 to 10 μm / min. As the second polishing liquid, a polishing liquid containing 10 wt% or less of hydrogen fluoride is preferably used. The higher the hydrogen fluoride concentration, the faster the polishing, the lower the hydrogen fluoride concentration, the slower the polishing, and the higher the polishing liquid temperature, the faster the polishing, and the lower the polishing liquid temperature, the slower the polishing. Therefore, the polishing rate is adjusted by the hydrogen fluoride concentration and the polishing liquid temperature.
The second polishing liquid may contain one or more inorganic acids and surfactants. Examples of the inorganic acid include hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and the like, and examples of the surfactant include surfactants such as ester, phenol, amide, ether, nonion, and amine. .
When the second polishing liquid is brought into contact with the surface of the
Polishing with the second polishing liquid is performed to the thickness of the target glass substrate. As shown in FIG.1 (c), the
Next, the present invention will be described based on the second embodiment. In this embodiment, a first chemical polishing step for polishing the glass surface with the first polishing liquid, a chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) step, and a second chemical polishing step for polishing the glass surface with the second polishing liquid are sequentially performed. It is polished by. After these steps, a washing and drying step is provided. The glass substrate to be polished in this embodiment is the same glass substrate as in the first embodiment, and the polishing method used in the first chemical polishing step and the second polishing step is the first except for the polishing amount. This is performed in the same manner as in the embodiment.

FIGS. 2A and 2B are diagrams showing changes in the glass surface in the first chemical polishing step, and FIG. 2A shows a state in which the first polishing liquid 3 is applied to the surface of the
In the first chemical polishing step, the surface of the
FIG. 2C shows the

Although the present invention has been described based on the embodiments as described above, various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention.
