Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a casting apparatus suitable for casting polycrystalline silicon for solar cells and a silicon casting method using the same.
A solar cell converts incident light energy into electrical energy. Major solar cells are classified into crystalline, amorphous, and compound types depending on the type of materials used. Of these, most of the crystalline silicon solar cells currently on the market are in the market. This crystalline silicon solar cell is further classified into a single crystal type and a polycrystalline type. A single-crystal silicon solar cell has the advantage that it is easy to increase the efficiency because the quality of the substrate is good, but has the disadvantage that the manufacturing cost of the substrate is high. On the other hand, the polycrystalline silicon solar cell has the advantage that it can be manufactured at a low cost although it has the disadvantage that it is difficult to increase the efficiency because the quality of the substrate is inferior. In recent years, conversion efficiency of about 18% has been achieved at the research level due to the improvement of the quality of the polycrystalline silicon substrate and the advancement of cell technology.
On the other hand, polycrystalline silicon solar cells of mass production level have been circulated in the market because of their low cost. However, in recent years, demand has increased further as environmental problems have been addressed.
A polycrystalline silicon substrate used for a polycrystalline silicon solar cell is generally manufactured by a method called a casting method. This casting method is a method of forming a silicon ingot by cooling and solidifying a silicon melt in a mold coated with a release material. The end of the silicon ingot is removed and cut into a desired size, and the cut silicon ingot is sliced to a desired thickness to obtain a polycrystalline silicon substrate for forming a solar cell.
FIG. 6 shows a conventional casting apparatus described in
A
At this time, in the casting apparatus shown in FIG. 6, the crucible outlet 21 a is previously closed with the silicon
Conventionally, when the
Further, when the silicon melt is poured into the
The present invention has been made in view of such problems of the prior art, and a casting apparatus capable of casting low-cost and high-quality polycrystalline silicon for solar cells when casting polycrystalline silicon, and the same An object of the present invention is to provide a silicon casting method using the above.
The inventor repeated experiments in order to solve the above-mentioned problems, and the properties of the cast silicon ingot are also affected by the peeling damage of the release material. It has been found that there is a correlation between them, and the characteristics tend to deteriorate particularly when the amount of tapping water is large. The reason for this was presumed as follows as a result of careful observation of the phenomenon occurring in the mold immediately after tapping.
(1) The discharged silicon melt comes into contact with the inner surface of the mold and solidifies to form a solidified layer (hereinafter referred to as an initial solidified layer). The initial solidified layer acts as a diffusion barrier when impurities (such as Fe) in the release material diffuse into the silicon melt.
(2) When the amount of tapping water is small, the total amount of heat generated by the supplied silicon melt is small, so that the initial solidified layer is kept as it is, and there are few impurities in the release material that diffuses into the silicon melt.
(3) When the amount of tapping water is large, the total amount of heat provided by the supplied silicon melt is large, so that the initial solidified layer is remelted, so that impurities in the release material diffuse into the silicon melt.
The inventor has intensively studied to find a method for solving the problem based on this estimation, and has reached the configuration of the present invention described below.
That is, the casting apparatus according to
A casting apparatus according to a second aspect of the present invention is the casting apparatus according to the first aspect, wherein a silicon plug is disposed inside the nozzle and is disposed in the vicinity of the nozzle to melt the silicon plug. A heating means is further provided.
The casting apparatus according to a third aspect of the present invention is the casting apparatus according to the first or second aspect, wherein the edge shape of the crucible outlet port includes the edge shape of the tip outlet port of the nozzle. The size.

And a trapezoidal bottom base are provided.
A silicon casting method according to
As described above, the casting apparatus according to the present invention includes a melting crucible for discharging a silicon melt obtained by heating and melting a silicon raw material held therein from a crucible outlet provided at the bottom, and the melting crucible. A nozzle having a tip outlet at the lower end and a release material on the inner side are provided so as to cover the crucible outlet on the outside, and the silicon melt discharged from the tip outlet is held inside. A casting apparatus comprising a mold to be solidified, wherein the nozzle is formed by combining trapezoidal legs of a plurality of isosceles trapezoidal plates having substantially the same size so as to become narrower toward the tip; The cross-sectional area of the tip pouring gate is 1 mm 2 or more and 2500 mm 2 or less.
As described above, since the trapezoidal leg portions of a plurality of isosceles trapezoidal plates having substantially the same size are combined when forming the nozzle, the formation of the nozzle is simplified and takes less time. Therefore, the melting crucible can be made inexpensive and contribute to the cost reduction of the manufactured solar cell polycrystalline substrate. Furthermore, since the size of the nozzle can be designed freely, it is easy to set the cross-sectional area of the nozzle outlet of the nozzle within the above range. If the cross-sectional area of the nozzle outlet of the nozzle is within this range, the initial solidified layer can be formed with an optimum thickness when discharged into the mold, and this initial solidified layer acts as a diffusion barrier. , It is possible to prevent impurities such as Fe contained in the release material from diffusing into the silicon melt.
Since the effects as described above are exhibited, it is possible to cast an inexpensive and high-quality polycrystalline silicon ingot for solar cells.
In the casting apparatus of the present invention, a silicon plug is disposed inside the nozzle, and is further provided with a nozzle heating unit that is disposed in the vicinity of the nozzle and melts the silicon plug. Thus, the silicon melt can be discharged. Since the timing of the hot water can be freely controlled, the hot water can be discharged when the temperature of the silicon melt in the melting crucible or the temperature of the mold becomes optimum. As a result, it becomes easy to control the thickness and solidification state of the initial solidified layer, so that a silicon ingot having a certain quality can be obtained.
Further, in the casting apparatus of the present invention, the edge shape of the crucible outlet is sized to include the edge shape of the tip outlet of the nozzle. That is, the crucible outlet is larger than the tip outlet of the nozzle. As a result, the amount of silicon melt flowing into the nozzle from the crucible outlet is larger than the amount of silicon melt discharged into the mold from the nozzle outlet at the tip of the nozzle. Therefore, the quality of the ingot can be further improved. Furthermore, it becomes easy to dispose a silicon stopper for preventing leakage of the silicon melt in the nozzle.
In the casting apparatus of the present invention, the plurality of isosceles trapezoidal plates are provided with grooves connecting the trapezoidal upper base and the trapezoidal lower base on the inner surface side of the nozzle. Since the nozzle formed by combining the isosceles trapezoidal plate according to the present invention has a corner, when the silicon melt is poured out and poured into the mold, the flow is not sufficiently stabilized, and the tip of the nozzle Although it may scatter when discharged from the hot water outlet, if a groove connecting the trapezoid upper base and trapezoid lower base is provided on the inner surface side of the nozzle, the silicon melt is rectified and scattering to the surroundings is suppressed. it can.
Since the silicon casting method of the present invention is performed using the above-described casting apparatus of the present invention, it is possible to cast an inexpensive and high-quality polycrystalline silicon ingot for solar cells.
The casting apparatus according to the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view showing an embodiment of a casting apparatus according to the present invention, wherein 1 is a melting crucible, 1a is a crucible outlet, 2 is a holding crucible, 3 is a silicon melt, 4 is a nozzle, 4a is Tip hot water outlet, 5 is a silicon stopper, 6 is a side heating means, 7 is an upper heating means, 8 is a mold heating means, 9 is a mold, 10 is a nozzle heating means, 11 is a mold cooling means, and 12 is a release material. .
The
At the bottom of the
In the
For example, quartz or graphite is used as a material for forming the
In addition, the
A mold cooling means 11 made of a metal plate such as stainless steel (SUS) may be provided below the
Further, a mold heat insulating material (not shown) may be provided around the
Next, the structure of the nozzle according to the casting apparatus of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to FIG.
FIG. 2A shows an isosceles
2C is an arrow view when the
Thus, since the
Furthermore, the
If the cross-sectional area of the tip outlet 4a of the
In addition, according to the structure of this invention, it can form so that the thickness of an initial stage solidified layer may be 0.5 mm or more and 5 mm or less. In this range, the diffusion of impurities from the
When the cross-sectional area of the tip outlet 4a of the
In addition, when the cross-sectional area of the tip outlet 4a of the
In order to obtain the initial solidified layer with an optimal thickness, it is more desirable that the portion of the inner surface of the
Thus, in order to control the inner surface temperature of the
Further, in order to control the temperature of the silicon melt to be poured out to an appropriate value, as shown in FIG. 1, a
Moreover, it is desirable that the end edge shape of the crucible outlet 1a be a size that can include the end edge shape of the tip end 4a of the
Further, as shown in FIG. 4, it is desirable that the plurality of isosceles
As described above, the casting apparatus of the present invention can be realized. Since the silicon casting method of the present invention is performed using such a casting apparatus of the present invention, it is possible to cast an inexpensive and high-quality polycrystalline silicon ingot for solar cells.
It should be noted that the embodiment of the present invention is not limited to the above-described example, and it is needless to say that various modifications can be made without departing from the gist of the present invention.
For example, in the example shown in FIGS. 2B and 2C, the number of isosceles
In the description of FIG. 3, the shape of the edge of the crucible outlet 1a at the bottom of the
Further, the shape of the
In addition, although an example in which the
The following experiment was conducted using the casting apparatus having the embodiment of the present invention shown in FIG. 1 described above.
As the

The temperature of the silicon melt is maintained at 1490 ° C., and the inner surface temperature of the
Thereafter, a silicon melt is provided while applying a predetermined temperature gradient from the bottom to the top of the
As shown in Table 1, when the cross-sectional area of 2800 mm 2 is, Fe concentration was 70ppb and high value. This is considered to be because Fe was diffused from the
In contrast, when the cross-sectional area ranged according to the
