Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a technique for inputting information relating to the texture of an original in an image reading apparatus and reproducing the information.
Each object surface has a “texture”. For example, a polished metal surface gives the viewer a glossy “gloss” and a cloth or fabric surface gives a glossy “matte”. In order to represent an object more realistically and realistically, it is necessary to input and reproduce information (texture information) relating to the texture such as gloss and texture of the actual object. Therefore, in an image reading apparatus such as a scanner or a copying machine, an attempt is made to read not only the color information of the object but also the texture information.
The texture of an object mainly depends on the reflection state of light on the object surface. In general, the reflected light on the surface of an object can be represented by the sum of specularly reflected light (or specularly reflected light) with high directivity and diffusely reflected light with low directivity, but the texture of the object varies depending on these ratios. . For example, the ratio of specular reflection light is relatively high on a polished metal surface, and therefore the metal surface is glossy. On the other hand, the ratio of diffusely reflected light is relatively high on the surface of a non-glossy object such as cloth or fabric. That is, by measuring the reflected light from the object surface and obtaining the ratio of the regular reflected light and the diffuse reflected light, the texture of the object, particularly the glossiness can be expressed more faithfully.
In an image reading apparatus, an object to be a document is read using diffuse reflection light. In other words, the image forming apparatus receives reflected light that contains a large amount of diffusely reflected light from the document, and color information of the object is generated based on the diffusely reflected light. On the other hand, if it is configured to receive reflected light that contains a large amount of specular reflection light from the document, the specular reflection light component may become excessive depending on the surface state of the document. Reading performance is degraded. For this reason, the imaging optical system is designed to minimize the regular reflection light from the original and to receive the reflection light including as much diffuse reflection light as possible.
On the other hand, in order to read the texture of the document surface, it is only necessary to receive both diffuse reflection light and regular reflection light from the document and acquire color information and texture information based on each reflected light component. . For example, in Patent Document 1, an image mainly containing diffuse reflection light (diffuse reflection image) is read by irradiating the subject 32 (original) with the light source 46 and the subject 32 is mainly corrected by irradiating the subject 32 with the light source 44. After reading an image including reflected light (specular reflection image), a gloss signal indicating gloss is generated based on these image signals. That is, here, it can be said that the color information of the subject is obtained based on the diffuse reflected light and the texture information of the subject is obtained based on the regular reflected light.
However, when trying to acquire texture information on the surface of an original with an image reading apparatus as described in Patent Document 1, the following problems occur.
In Patent Document 1, as described in FIG. 6 and the like, the irradiation means (light source 46) for obtaining diffuse reflection light and the irradiation means (light source 44) for obtaining regular reflection light are different. For this reason, the structure for illuminating the document becomes large and expensive. In addition, since the reading positions by the respective irradiation means are different, when superimposing the images by the reflected light, that is, the diffuse reflection image and the specular reflection image, the image by the memory or the like according to the displacement of these positions. It is also necessary to perform signal position correction.
Further, in the case of the above-described configuration, the optical path length until the reflected light for reading the diffuse reflected light is received by the light receiving means (line CCD sensor 60) and the reflected light for reading the regular reflected light are received by the light receiving means. Since the optical path length until the light is received does not match, at least one of the reflected lights is received without being properly imaged. Therefore, in order for each reflected light to be appropriately imaged, it is necessary to adjust the focus of the reflected light and read the document twice.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a technique for performing acquisition of texture information more simply and at high speed.
In order to achieve the above-described object, the present invention includes an irradiating unit that irradiates light on a document, a first optical system in which a first reflected light from which diffuse reflected light from the document is read, and the document. A second optical system in which the second reflected light from which the specularly reflected light from the light travels, and a switching means for switching the optical system to be used to either the first optical system or the second optical system; When the switching means switches between the first optical system and the second optical system, the first reflected light traveling through the first optical system or the second optical system traveling through the second optical system. An imaging means for imaging the reflected light of two, a light receiving means for receiving the first reflected light and the second reflected light imaged by the imaging means, and generating respective image signals; Using the image signal generated by the light receiving means, the first reflected light Provided as an image reading apparatus comprising output means for outputting color information based on a component corresponding to diffuse reflected light and texture information based on a component corresponding to regular reflected light of the second reflected light. Is also possible.
According to such an image reading apparatus, the first reflected light from which the diffuse reflected light is read based on the light emitted from the same irradiation unit and the second reflected light from which the regular reflected light is read are generated. This can be received by the same light receiving means. Therefore, it is possible to read the texture information with a simpler configuration than before. In addition, since the image reading apparatus performs the reading operation twice and calculates the color information and the texture information using the two types of image information obtained, the color information and the texture information can be acquired more accurately. it can.
Further, as a more preferable aspect, the image reading apparatus travels through the first optical system and includes the optical path length of the first reflected light until it is received by the light receiving unit, and the second optical system. The optical path length of the second reflected light that travels and is received by the light receiving means is equal.
In this way, the focal position is not shifted between the first reflected light from which diffuse reflected light is read and the second reflected light from which regular reflected light is read, so that the focal position is adjusted to the light receiving means side. It is not necessary to provide a special mechanism.
Alternatively, the present invention provides an irradiating means for irradiating the original with light, an optical path length of the first reflected light from which the diffuse reflected light from the original is read, and a second reflection from which the regular reflected light from the original is read. Reflected light combining means for emitting the first reflected light and the second reflected light as combined light provided at a position where the optical path lengths of the lights are equal, and forming an image of the combined light emitted by the reflected light combining means Imaging means, a light receiving means for receiving the combined light imaged by the imaging means and generating an electrical signal, and diffusion of the combined light using the electrical signal generated by the light receiving means There is provided an image reading apparatus including output means for outputting color information based on a component corresponding to reflected light and texture information based on a component corresponding to regular reflection light of the combined light.
According to such an image reading apparatus, it is possible to generate diffuse reflection light and regular reflection light based on the light emitted from the same irradiation means, and receive the light by the same light receiving means. Therefore, texture information can be acquired with a simpler configuration than in the past. In addition, since the diffuse reflection light and the regular reflection light can be received as a combined light by one reading operation, the texture information can be acquired at a higher speed than in the past.
In these cases, variable transmission means for varying the transmittance of transmitted light on the optical path of the second reflected light or on the optical paths of the first reflected light and the second reflected light is provided. It is desirable to provide.
In this way, even if the intensity of the second reflected light from which the specularly reflected light is read is high, the combined light exceeds the reading limit due to signal output saturation of the photoelectric conversion element or the like of the light receiving means. Can be prevented. In this way, since the light quantity ratio between the first reflected light and the second reflected light can be arbitrarily adjusted, the degree of gloss can be adjusted, and a more preferable texture can be reproduced. Appropriate information can be input.
Further, in these cases, the number of times the first reflected light from the original is reflected by the light receiving means and the second reflected light from the original is received by the light receiving means. It is desirable that both the number of times of reflection to be an even number or an odd number.
In this way, it is possible to match the image directions of the image light by the diffuse reflection light and the image light by the regular reflection light, and it is possible to input the information of the document more accurately.
The image reading apparatus of the present invention has an optical system (mirror or the like) so that the first reflected light and the second reflected light from the original irradiated by a single irradiation means (light source) are guided to the same optical path. And the first reflected light and the second reflected light are received by the same light receiving means (line sensor). With this configuration, the image reading apparatus of the present invention can acquire texture information more easily than in the past. Furthermore, in the present invention, the first reflected light and the second reflected light described above are emitted as combined light, and the texture information is acquired at a higher speed than before by reading them by one reading operation. Is possible. In the following, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with some examples.

The
In the present invention, the document P is not limited to paper, but may be a plastic such as an OHP sheet, a metal plate, or a cloth or fabric.
FIG. 2 is a diagram showing a configuration of the
When the
The light reflected by the
Here, the reflected light traveling in the
As described above, specularly reflected light has high directivity, and most of the light is reflected at substantially the same angle with respect to the incident angle. FIG. 3 is a diagram showing an example of the intensity distribution of specularly reflected light from the document P, and the horizontal axis represents the deviation from the incident angle (the vertical axis indicates the dimensionless amount). On the other hand, the directivity of diffusely reflected light is low, and the light is reflected almost uniformly at all angles.
Accordingly, the
In the following description, the reflected light L dr for reading the diffuse reflected light described above is called "first reflected light" reflected light L sr for reading the specular reflected light "second reflected light "

制御部はCPU(Central Processing Unit)等の演算装置と、ROM(Read Only Memory)やRAM(Random Access Memory)等の各種メモリとを備えており、ユーザの入力指示に応じて上述した駆動部に指示を供給し、画像を読み取るための所定の動作を行わせる。
The operation of each unit described above is controlled by a control unit (not shown). The control unit includes an arithmetic device such as a CPU (Central Processing Unit) and various memories such as a ROM (Read Only Memory) and a RAM (Random Access Memory). An instruction is supplied, and a predetermined operation for reading an image is performed. In addition, the control unit performs various kinds of image processing such as AD conversion, γ conversion, or shading correction on the image signal output from the
Based on the above configuration, the
Here, the “gloss information” is information indicating which area of the image data is a glossy area (hereinafter referred to as “gloss area”) and what level of glossiness, for example, corresponding image data For each of these pixels, the gloss level is indicated by a digital signal of 2 to 8 bits for each color of RGB. The data of each pixel becomes a value closer to “black (R = 0, G = 0, B = 0)” as the glossiness is lower. The control unit uses the gloss information to identify the gloss area on the image data, obtains the gloss level of the area, and further determines the color of the gloss area (for example, determination of gold or silver). These pieces of information are added to the image data. Alternatively, the control unit may specify a glossy region for each pixel by using only a
The image data obtained in this way includes information on the texture, that is, texture information. Such image data can generate an image in which the texture of an object (original) is reproduced, for example, by performing predetermined processing on the glossy area in the image forming apparatus. For example, in the case of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, the predetermined process for the glossy area is an image formed on a sheet with normal color toners of C (cyan), M (magenta), Y (yellow), and K (black). By forming a transparent toner layer in the glossy area and fixing it at a high temperature and high pressure, the surface of the formed image is made glossy, or by using metallic toner such as gold or silver This is a type of processing for forming a golden or silver metallic image.
(2) Second Embodiment Subsequently, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described. The image reading apparatus of the present embodiment (referred to as “image reading apparatus 200”) is different from the

Based on the above configuration, the image reading apparatus 200 of the present embodiment performs substantially the same operation as the
(3) Third Embodiment Subsequently, a third embodiment of the present invention will be described. The image reading apparatus according to the present embodiment (referred to as “image reading apparatus 300”) can read the first reflected light and the second reflected light by one scanning operation. It is different from the embodiment. Also in this embodiment, since only the configuration of the full-rate carriage is different from the
FIG. 5 is a diagram showing a configuration of the
In the image reading apparatus 300 of this embodiment, the reflected light L dr from the original P is reflected by the
Here, the normal and the angle theta 2 of the reflected light L sr is the document P to be incident on the
Here, FIG. 3 described above is shown. As shown in the figure, the specular reflection light generally has a strong directivity, and the peak of the specular reflection light becomes steeper as the surface has a higher glossiness. Therefore, if θ 2 = θ 1 when an object having a surface with high glossiness is used as the document P, the intensity of the combined light received by the
As described above, the image reading apparatus 300 according to the present embodiment can read the first reflected light and the second reflected light in one scanning operation, and increases the scan time of the document. The image data having the texture information can be acquired without any problem. For example, when the image reading apparatus 300 of the present embodiment is used to read a document in which only a specific area of an image has high gloss and the other areas have low gloss, the above-described specific area An image signal in which only the (glossy region) has a greater intensity than the other region (non-glossy region) is obtained. The image data obtained from this image signal shows a color value larger than the maximum value of color values (that is, the color value of “white”) based on the color information based on the first reflected light in the above-described gloss region. . Therefore, it is possible to perform predetermined processing on the glossy area by determining the glossy area using the above-described “white” color value as a threshold for this image data. For example, in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, with respect to this image data, an image is formed on a sheet with normal C, M, Y, and K color toners for the non-gloss area, and a metallic color for the gloss area. For example, it is possible to form a metallic image with the toner.
Alternatively, the image reading apparatus 300 according to the present embodiment is also used when the reflection state of specularly reflected light from the document surface can be predicted to some extent, for example, when the document is glossy photographic paper or cloth with almost no gloss. Is preferred.
(4) Fourth Embodiment Next, a fourth embodiment of the present invention will be described. Similarly to the image reading apparatus 300 of the third embodiment described above, the image reading apparatus of the present embodiment (referred to as “image reading apparatus 400”) can also perform the first reflected light and the second reflected light in one scanning operation. It is possible to read both.
In the present invention, the arrangement of the mirrors and the like in the full-rate carriage is not limited to that described above, and various modifications can be made. An example of this modification is shown in the present embodiment.
FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating a configuration of the
By adopting such a configuration, the image reading apparatus 400 can read both the first reflected light and the second reflected light in one scanning operation.
By the way, as described in the third embodiment, when the first reflected light and the second reflected light are received at the same time, it is necessary to prevent the image signal from the combined light from being saturated. . However, as described in the third embodiment, when the second reflected light is reflected by the mirror at an angle that is slightly smaller than the maximum intensity, this time, an object with low glossiness, that is, a composite There is a problem that accurate texture information cannot be obtained when an object having a low proportion of the specularly reflected light component contained in the light is used as the document P. For this reason, the method described above is used only when the glossiness of the original P can be predicted to some extent in advance.
As a solution to this problem, there is a liquid crystal shutter, for example. The liquid crystal shutter can change the transmittance of light traveling in the liquid crystal shutter by applying a voltage.
FIG. 7 is a diagram showing a configuration in which a
With this configuration, the user who operates the image reading apparatus 400 inputs an instruction to increase the density of the
In the above description, it has been described that the
(5) Fifth Embodiment Next, a fifth embodiment of the present invention will be described. The image reading apparatus according to the present embodiment (referred to as “image reading apparatus 500”) has substantially the same configuration as the image reading apparatus 200 according to the second embodiment described above, and the first reflected light and the first reflected light in one scanning operation. It is possible to read both of the two reflected lights.
FIG. 8 is a diagram showing the configuration of the full rate carriage 53 of the present embodiment. As shown in the figure, the full rate carriage 53 includes a
By adopting such a configuration, the image reading apparatus 500 has the same configuration as the image reading apparatus 200 of the second embodiment, and the document P in the same manner as the image reading apparatus 300 of the third embodiment. The first reflected light and the second reflected light indicating the same position can be received simultaneously. Therefore, it is possible to easily form image data having texture information without performing complicated calculations.
The full rate carriage 53 of the image reading apparatus 500 has a configuration in which the rotating light trap 233 is simply removed from the
(6) Sixth Embodiment Next, a sixth embodiment of the present invention will be described. The basic configuration and operation of the image reading apparatus of the present embodiment (referred to as “image reading apparatus 600”) are the same as those of the third embodiment described above, but the image reading apparatus 600 of the present embodiment has the number of mirrors. The arrangement is different from that of the third embodiment. The present embodiment is characterized by the number of times the first reflected light and the second reflected light are reflected by the mirror.
FIG. 9 is a diagram schematically showing the directions of the first reflected light and the second reflected light imaged by the
As shown in the figure, since the first reflected light is reflected once by the
In order to make the image directions of the first reflected light and the second reflected light coincide with each other, the number of times that the first reflected light and the second reflected light are reflected by the mirror may be the same. For example, if both the first reflected light and the second reflected light are reflected twice by the mirror, the upper direction of the document P faces downward and the respective image directions coincide when emitted from the full-rate carriage. become.
In the same manner, for example, when the first reflected light is reflected three times by the mirror and the second reflected light is reflected once by the mirror, the original when it is emitted from the full rate carriage It can be seen that the upper direction of P faces upward and the image directions coincide. In other words, if the number of reflections of the first reflected light and the second reflected light is both even or both odd, it can be said that the image directions coincide with each other.
In the above description, only the description until each reflected light is emitted from the full-rate carriage has been described, but the first reflected light generated from the original P is actually received by the
Based on the above, the full rate carriage of the image reading apparatus 600 of the present embodiment will be described.
FIG. 10 is a diagram showing the configuration of the
In addition to this embodiment, in other embodiments, it is desirable to design the optical system so that the image directions of the first reflected light and the second reflected light coincide.
(7) Seventh Embodiment Next, a seventh embodiment of the present invention will be described. Similarly to the image reading device 600 of the sixth embodiment, the image reading device of this embodiment (referred to as “image reading device 700”) also receives the first reflected light and the second reflected light received by the
FIG. 11 is a diagram showing an example of the configuration of the
