Description
The present invention relates to a work function measuring method and a work function measuring apparatus for an electrode of a discharge lamp.
As a method for measuring such a work function, (A) a special lamp or container dedicated to work function measurement having a probe probe penetrating a discharge tube in the vicinity of the cathode is manufactured, and (B) this special lamp or container. The saturation emission current density between the two electrodes is obtained, and (C) a value obtained by extrapolating the saturation emission current density to a zero electric field is obtained. (D) Richardson-Dushman (Richardson Dashman) It is conceivable to obtain it via the formula (see
However, since the work function obtained by the above measurement method is a value obtained using a special lamp or container as described above, it is practically different from a value in a discharge lamp during an actual life test. There is a problem that the knowledge of changes after that cannot be obtained.
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and it is possible to measure the work function of an electrode of a discharge lamp that can measure the work function of the electrode of a normal discharge lamp without using a special lamp or the like. It is an object to provide a measurement method and a work function measurement device.
In order to achieve the above object, a method for measuring a work function at an electrode of a discharge lamp according to the present invention as set forth in
According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for measuring a work function at an electrode of a discharge lamp according to the present invention. The current is 0.25 mA or more and 2.0 mA or less.
According to a third aspect of the present invention, there is provided a work function measuring apparatus for measuring a work function at an electrode of a discharge lamp, wherein the work function measuring apparatus is a lamp current for supplying a constant DC current to the discharge lamp. A supply means; a heating current supply means for supplying a constant current to the electrode on the cathode side; and a lamp voltage measurement means for measuring a voltage value of the discharge lamp, the lamp current supply means and the heating current supply. The current value supplied by the means can be variably set.
According to the method of the present invention, for example, the electrode temperature of the heated cathode side electrode is obtained from the value of the heating current when the lamp voltage suddenly decreases, and this electrode temperature and the emission current value are calculated by Richardson. If the Dashman equation is substituted into a modified relational expression, the work function at the electrode for a normal discharge lamp can be measured.
That is, it becomes possible to grasp the emission performance of the electrode of the discharge lamp after practical use.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to an example in which the present invention is applied to measurement of a work function at an electrode of a fluorescent lamp.
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a circuit configuration of a work function measuring device in an electrode of a fluorescent lamp according to the present embodiment.
As shown in the figure, the

Since the DC constant
The DC constant
In such a work function measuring device, in a state where a DC lamp current of a predetermined magnitude is supplied from the DC constant
FIG. 2 shows the relationship between the heating current and the lamp voltage in this case.
As shown in FIG. 2, when the heating current value becomes larger than a certain value during the gradual increase of the heating current, the lamp voltage V L rapidly decreases. This voltage drop is caused by the transition of the discharge state on the
The point E plotted at the position where the lamp voltage has finished decreasing on the graph of FIG. 2 is the emission point, that is, the
This point E may be understood as the first point at which Ar emission disappeared from the emission spectrum in the vicinity of the electrode of the fluorescent lamp encapsulated with Ar-Hg with the phosphor at the tube end peeled off.
That is, the value of the DC lamp current in the state of point E can be regarded as the same value as the value of the emission current.
If the set value of the DC constant
Th=Tc・(Rh/Rc)0.814 ・・・式(1)
When the electrode material is tungsten, the relationship between the emission temperature and the heating current is expressed by the following equation (1) indicating the relationship between the electrode resistance ratio (R h / R c ) and the electrode temperature T h (K) [ Derived from the Jones-Langmuir table for properties (HA Jones and ILangmuir, General Electric Review, 30 (1927) 354). ].
T h = T c · (R h / R c ) 0.814 (1)
Here, R c (Ω) is the electrode resistance at room temperature T c (K).
FIG. 3 is a diagram showing the relationship between the heating current and the electrode resistance. From FIG. 3, the value of the electrode resistance R h (Ω) with respect to the heating current value I h in the state of the point E is obtained.
T h (K) can be obtained by substituting the room temperature T c (K) and R c (Ω) and R h (Ω) obtained from this graph into the equation (1).
As will be described below, in the present embodiment, the obtained emission temperature and emission current value are substituted into a relational expression obtained by modifying the Richardson-Dushman equation, and the work function of the
Ie=ASTh 1.25exp(−b/Th) ・・・式(2)
ここで、b=11605Φ(K) 、AはRichardson定数でありA=120.4(A/cm2・K)、S(cm2)は電極エミッタの電子放出部全表面積であり、今回のサンプルではS=0.316(cm2)である。
The following equation (2) is a modified equation of the Richardson-Dushman equation describing the relationship between the emission current I e and the emission temperature (electrode temperature) T h (K).
I e = AST h 1.25 exp (−b / T h ) (2)
Where b = 11605Φ (K), A is a Richardson constant, A = 120.4 (A / cm 2 · K), and S (cm 2 ) is the total surface area of the electron emitter of the electrode emitter. Then, S = 0.316 (cm 2 ).
The following equation (3), the work function [Phi, an equation expressed by the sum of the term cT h that depends on claim [Phi 0 and temperature independent of temperature.
Φ = Φ 0 + cT h Formula (3)
The following expression (4) is an expression obtained by transforming the natural logarithm from both sides of expression (2) and substituting expression (3).
ln(Ie/Th 1.25)=ln(AS−11605c)−b2/Th
ln (I e / T h 1.25 ) = ln (AS-11605c) −b 2 / T h Formula (4)
However, b 2 = 11605Φ 0 (K).
If the equation (4) is plotted on an Arrhenius plot, a graph as shown in FIG. 4 is obtained.
The seven black square measurement points in the graph in FIG. 4 are plotted by determining the emission temperature at each set lamp current value. The straight line of the graph is drawn from, for example, the least square method from seven measurement points.
Figure [Phi 0 than the slope b 2 of the straight line in the graph of 4 is obtained, c are determined from sections extrapolated linearly to 1 / T h. Substituting these values of Φ 0 and c into equation (3), the work function Φ is expressed as the following equation (5).
Φ = 0.863 + 8.48 × 10 -4 T h (eV) ··· (5)
In addition, the work function φ at the time of placing the emission temperature T h and 1100K can give the evaluation that it is 1.8eV.
As described above, according to the method for measuring a work function in an electrode according to the present embodiment, the work function of an electrode of a normal fluorescent lamp can be measured.
This makes it possible to evaluate the electrode state by combining with the lighting circuit of an actual fluorescent lamp, and not the special fluorescent lamp for measurement as in the past, and the electrode characteristics during the life of the fluorescent lamp (over time). Changes can be evaluated.
(Appropriate range of lamp current value)
The value of the DC lamp current flowing from the DC constant
FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the relationship between the emission current (lamp current) I e (A) and the heating current in the state of point E. As shown in the graph of FIG. 5, when the lamp current becomes larger than 2.0 mA (2.0 × 10 −3 A), it seems that the influence of heating of the electrode due to discharge increases. Thus, the emission current can be obtained without increasing the heating current. For this reason, accurate measurement of the work function may not be possible.
Therefore, the lamp current is preferably set to 2.0 mA or less, more preferably 1.0 mA or less.
The lamp current density obtained by dividing the current in these ranges by the surface area of the various electrode emission portions is 10 mA / cm 2 or less, which can be interpreted as maintaining a normal glow discharge that does not give a thermal load to the electrode.
