A direct light emitting display device such as an organic EL device has two problems, namely, a contrast reduction problem and a glare problem due to external light. In order to reduce the glare effect, a film-like antireflection coating or a spherical antiglare coating is used. And a step of distributing the absorbing elements.

An apparatus according to one type of the present invention includes a protruding structure formed on the light transmissive surface of the display element. Each protruding structure includes a light absorption region. Most external light incident on the protruding structure is refracted and absorbed toward the light absorption region. However, most of the internal light generated by the light transmitting surface under the protruding structure travels through the protruding structure.

Further, reflection of light by external light can be effectively prevented, the glare effect can be reduced, the diffusion characteristics can be improved, and an optical device with high quality and high brightness can be provided. In particular, it is effective for improving the luminance in the presence of an external light source.
Further, by absorbing UV light with the light absorbing element in the optical device of the present invention, it becomes possible to reduce deterioration of components of the optical device, for example, an organic substance in an organic EL display, and the optical device can be improved. For example, the internal light can be transmitted to the outside of the optical device without being obstructed by the deteriorated component member, so that it is simpler (less, for example, two factors) It is possible to further improve the luminance only by controlling the above.
Moreover, the total internal reflection can be reduced by the photorefractive structure, and the transmission of internal light can be improved. Therefore, the contrast ratio and the luminance can be further improved efficiently.
Furthermore, according to the manufacturing method of the light absorption layer of the present invention, the above-described high-quality and high-luminance optical device can be easily manufactured.
Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the present invention, the “photorefractive structure” means a structure including at least a light absorption layer. The surface of the light absorption layer may be flat or may include a protruding structure as described later. Furthermore, a thin film covering the light absorption layer, a reflection member, and an antireflection film may be included, and not only a single light absorption layer but also a light absorption layer of two or more layers may be used. In the case of a light absorption layer of two or more layers, each light absorption layer may be the same material, the same film thickness, etc., for example, different refractive index or different materials of the same degree, different film thickness The surface thereof may be flat as described above, or may have a protruding structure.
FIG. 1 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 1 shows an
During operation, the light emitting layer 50 emits
The
In other embodiments, the protruding
Each
Further, the protruding
Each protruding
Another embodiment of the present invention is shown in FIG. FIG. 3 shows an
Still another type of the present invention is shown in FIG. In FIG. 4, the
Yet another exemplary embodiment of the present invention is shown in FIG. The
Furthermore, another exemplary embodiment of the present invention is shown in FIG. The
The light absorbing element may have other forms. FIG. 7 shows an
Yet another embodiment of the present invention is shown in FIG. The
In still other embodiments, the size and / or position of the protruding structure is non-uniform in the above-described embodiment in order to prevent the interference effect generated by the regular reflection of external light from the protruding structure.
In still another embodiment of the present invention, the optical system may include a protruding structure with a non-uniform diameter or a light absorbing element with a non-uniform diameter. Of course, both may be uniform, only one may be uniform and the other may be non-uniform. The optical system may have a plurality of protruding structures that are not distributed at uniform intervals. Naturally, it may be distributed at uniform intervals, or both may be mixed.
A method for manufacturing the optical system shown in FIGS. 1 to 8 will be described below.
One method of manufacturing the optical system is illustrated in FIGS. 9A, 9B and 10A-10D.
FIG. 9A shows a
FIG. 9B shows an
The
Thereafter, the
Alternatively, the
According to another type of the present invention, the
Further, the optical system may be manufactured by distributing the
Yet another method of manufacturing the optical system is illustrated in FIGS. 13A-13D. First, the
Yet another method of manufacturing the optical system is illustrated in FIGS. 14A-14D. In this manner, a plurality of
