Description
This patent application is a continuation-in-part of US patent application 09 / 715,353, filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office on November 17, 2000, and provisional patent application 60 / filed on April 8, 2002. It claims the priority of 370,905. The entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference.
The present disclosure relates generally to small shock absorber, vibration isolator and / or suspension devices, and more particularly to materials that are resilient to shear and the axle that penetrates the shock absorber to all rotations except in the direction of disturbance or vibration. A bend mechanism that inhibits movement in degrees of freedom and translational degrees of freedom.
In-line skating has been remarkably successful with the latest technology, but an almost completely smooth paved road is still required to fully enjoy this activity. This limits inline skating to well-managed parks and recreation areas. Even on roads where users of automobiles and bicycles feel comfortable and comfortable, inline skaters are frustrated by wobbling.
One reason for this problem is that existing in-line skates do not include any damping system and rely solely on the elasticity of the tires on each wheel to perform this function. A number of cushioning systems for inline skates have been proposed over the years, but these involve changes to the skate itself by adding heavy and bulky springs and dampers to the skate track and frame. However, none of these systems are currently used on a commercial basis. The main reason is that the additional weight and complexity that these systems add to the skate is not compensated by the benefits that the systems provide. Relying on the elasticity of the tires to alleviate road variations also has the disadvantage that tires with a certain degree of flexibility and elasticity, for example in the range of 65A to 75A with a durometer, must be used. However, as the softer tires come into contact with the road surface, the deformation of the tires increases, and the user must use more force to limit the speed that can be achieved by skating. Using harder tires, such as tires in the 85A to 100A range with a durometer, speeds up skating and requires less skaters to use, but an effective dampening system is available for inline skating. Therefore, vibration is transmitted to the user's feet and legs even on a relatively smooth paved road, and these vibrations cause fatigue to the skater over time.
Other mobile devices, particularly those with small wheels similar to inline skate wheels, have problems similar to those described above. Such mobile devices may include scooters, street skis, certain skateboards, and the like.
Thus, it is used in inline skates and related mobile devices, and neither the weight nor the bulk is significantly increased relative to the device, it is relatively simple and inexpensive, yet the majority of road vibrations There is a need for an improved dampening system that can absorb tire independent and promotes a smoother ride on all surfaces while allowing the use of harder and faster tires.
Accordingly, a compact cushioning, anti-vibration and / or suspension device is provided that overcomes the disadvantages and drawbacks of the prior art.
Co-pending application 09 / 715,353, filed November 17, 2000, discloses an axle shock absorber, which has all rotational degrees of freedom and all translational freedom except for the direction of damping or vibration isolation. When the shock absorber also functions as a suspension mechanism, it also compensates for irregularities in the movement path. The co-pending application shock absorber has many advantages over this type of prior art device, but greatly improves the design of this device to greatly increase the life of the device and increase the size of the shock absorber. It has been found that by providing a larger movement path in the shock absorber, its function can be enhanced and the device can be manufactured more easily and inexpensively. Although the shock absorbers of existing applications are primarily intended for use in inline skates, scooters or other vehicle wheel hubs with small wheels, the teachings of the present invention have much broader application and Used in most other wheelless equipment locations that need to mitigate / dampen / absorb the impact and / or vibration experienced by one component of the equipment in addition to the hub interior to minimize the impact on the entire equipment I also found that I can do it.

The objects and features of the disclosure that are believed to be novel are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The structure and operation aspects of the present disclosure, together with further objects and advantages, can best be understood with reference to the following description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
The following discussion includes a description of a compact shock absorber, anti-vibration and / or suspension device in accordance with the principles of the present disclosure. Reference will now be made in detail to exemplary embodiments of the disclosure, which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Referring to the drawings, in which like components are designated with like reference numerals throughout the several views, an exemplary embodiment of the disclosed small shock absorber, anti-vibration and / or suspension apparatus and method of use is described in-line skating. , Scooters or other small wheel vehicle wheel hub shock absorbers, wheel hub and wheelless device inner and outer positions, and devices in wheels, devices outside wheels or devices that do not use wheels It is stated in terms of a buffer that needs to mitigate, damp and / or absorb the shock and vibration experienced by the element. It is envisioned that the present disclosure can be used as a shock absorber including and without the use of wheeled elements.
Referring first to FIGS. 1A and 1B, a preferred embodiment of the present invention is disclosed. The shock absorber 10 of this embodiment of the present invention includes an
Although the
A
The embodiment of FIGS. 1A and 1B includes a number of advantageous features. For example, the
The
In the preferred embodiment, the
Referring now to FIGS. 2A-2C, a non-monolithic embodiment of the
3A and 3B show another non-monolithic embodiment of the
As shown in FIGS. 1A and 1B and FIGS. 2A to 2C, the
4A and 4B show a method capable of increasing the length of the movement path.

Referring now to the embodiment of FIGS. 6A-6C, the

The

There are also many ways in which elastomeric materials with high compressibility or low durometer hardness can be placed in the cavities or

In other embodiments, a small shock absorber is incorporated into a compatible wheel design, for example, for use with an inline skate wheel. Prior art inline skate wheels use well-established industrial sizes such as wheels with a diameter of about 72 mm to 82 mm and a width of about 25 mm. Inline skate wheels typically consist of a number of components. The first component is a hub that can accommodate the bearings on both sides. The conventional bearing used in inline skates is a metric 608zz bearing, which has an inner diameter of 8 mm, an outer diameter of 22 mm, and a width of 7 mm. The 608zz bearing also includes shield members provided on both sides in order to protect the bearing from foreign matter. During assembly, a spacer member is disposed between the two bearings to support the bearings when lateral loads and forces are applied. Injected urethane is molded around the hub to act as a tire and rolling surface for the inline skate wheels. Urethanes can include various durometer or hardness grades ranging from 68A to 82A height. Finally, the inline skate wheel includes an axle portion that includes a threaded end, an appropriately sized coupling nut, and the like to secure the wheel to the inline skate.
Such a small shock absorber incorporated in an inline skate wheel can be adapted to an existing inline skate. That is, the width, wheel diameter, and general shape are substantially unchanged from prior art inline skate wheels. The shock absorber and inline skate wheels of the present disclosure use a larger 6806zz bearing having dimensions of, for example, 42 mm (outer diameter) × 30 mm (inner diameter) × 7 mm (width). The wheel device also includes a single bearing arrangement centered directly in the middle of the wheel width. This single bearing approach provides enhanced ability to withstand thrust and torque loads.
In conventional inline skate wheels, the bearings are held in place by being pressed into the hub. The bearing is further secured by the skate itself when the wheels are attached and the mounting bolts are tightened. In accordance with the present disclosure, the shock absorber incorporated into the inline skate wheel holds a single bearing in place by providing a higher shoulder on one side of the hub that can accommodate the bearing. On the other side of the hub is a threaded or grooved area where the retaining ring can be secured. The retaining ring includes a coupling screw or groove in a portion of its outer diameter so that the ring can be inserted into the appropriate portion of the hub and removed as necessary. In addition, the outer diameter of the retaining ring includes a ring made of an elastomer material. The elastomeric material is designed to compress as the ring is inserted and to provide friction between the ring and the hub to prevent the ring from loosening during normal use. The inner diameter of the retaining ring includes specially shaped grooves, detents, etc., so that a correspondingly shaped tool can be inserted or placed to help secure the retaining ring to the hub. When the retaining ring is fixed in place, the bearing is held firmly and the bearing does not sway or loosen with respect to the hub.
Conventional inline skate wheels are manufactured in a two-step process. A hub member usually made of plastic is injection-molded. The hub member is then placed in the mold and urethane material is injected around the hub and cured. Parts are removed after curing. Because the injection process is inaccurate, the wheel must be trimmed to remove excess urethane material, usually on one side of the wheel, i.e., the side facing the mold opening.
The manufacturing method of the shock absorber of the present disclosure incorporated in the inline skate wheel uses the same technique. The modified hub is injection molded and placed in an open mold, and urethane material is poured around the mold hub and cured. The wheels are then removed and trimmed to remove excess material. However, the following manufacturing method is disclosed for forming the threaded portion or groove portion of the hub of the present disclosure. The first method involves molding the threaded or grooved portion simultaneously with the remaining portion of the hub. This technique further requires the step of twisting and removing the hub to remove the hub after solidification. The second method involves cutting or forming the screw during the final trimming process of the wheel. If the hub is correctly oriented during the urethane molding operation, the surface that requires trimming is also the side of the hub that requires screw placement. Because the hub is already on the lathe or machine platform, tool members are used to trim the wheels as well as trim the wheels. Such a two-work process saves time and money.
