Abstract
Description
a)重合体マトリックスを準備し、
b)ある程度精製された炭素ナノチューブを準備し、
c)混合を溶融状態で行うことで前記ある程度精製された炭素ナノチューブを前記重合体マトリックスの中に分散させ、
d)場合により、段階c)の重合体/ナノチューブの混合物を溶融状態または固体状態で引き伸ばすことで配向させる、
段階を含んで成る。
1)典型的には、支持体の性質に応じて適切な作用剤を用いて支持体粒子の溶解を実施し、そして
2)熱分解炭素成分(典型的には酸化または還元方法が基になった)を除去する。
前記2番目の段階は前記ナノチューブを前記マトリックスの中に分散させるにとって不利であり得る、と言うのは、その結果としてナノチューブが酸化をある程度受けることで、それらの極性が変化、従って非極性重合体、例えばポリエチレンおよびポリプロピレンなどと混ざり合う能力が変化してしまうからである。従って、ナノチューブが前記重合体マトリックスの中で示す分散性およびそれらの結合(linking)特性を向上させるにはナノチューブの予備処理および表面組成を制御することが必須であるが、これは一般に例えばJ.Chen他、Science、282、95−98、1998、Y.Chen他、J.Mater.Res.、13、2423−2431、1998、M.A.Hamon他、Adv.Mater.、11、834−840、1999、A.Hiroki他、J.Phys.Chem.B、103、8116−8121、1999などに記述されているようにナノチューブの「官能化」で達成される。この官能化は、例えばそれをアルキルアミンと反応させることなどで実施可能である。その結果としてナノチューブがポリプロピレンマトリックスの中で示す分離の度合がより良好になることでそれが重合体マトリックスの中で示す分散が助長される。このような官能化をナノチューブおよび重合体マトリックスの両方に関して実施すると、それによってそれらの共有結合が助長されることで、その充填コンパウンド(filled compound)の電気特性と機械的特性が向上する。
Claims (11)
- 単壁炭素ナノチューブ(SWNT)または多壁炭素ナノチューブ(MWNT)で補強されていて溶融状態における混合で調製された補強重合体材料であって、前記炭素ナノチューブが支持体粒子も触媒粒子も含有せず、この補強された重合体材料が向上した電気特性と機械的特性を同時に示すことを特徴とする補強重合体材料。
- 前記重合体材料がポリオレフィンである請求項1記載の補強重合体材料。
- 前記ポリオレフィンがプロピレンのアタクティック、アイソタクティックもしくはシンジオタクティックホモ重合体もしくは共重合体である請求項2記載の補強重合体材料。
- 前記炭素ナノチューブが少なくとも100のアスペクト比を示す請求項1〜3のいずれか1項記載の補強重合体材料。
- ある程度精製された炭素ナノチューブの添加量が前記重合体の重量を基準にして0.1から20重量%である請求項1〜4のいずれか1項記載の補強重合体材料。
- 更に配向している請求項1〜5のいずれか1項記載の補強重合体材料。
- 請求項1から6記載の補強重合体材料を製造する方法であって、
a)重合体マトリックスを準備し、
b)ある程度精製された炭素ナノチューブを準備し、
c)混合を溶融状態で行うことで前記ある程度精製された炭素ナノチューブを前記重合体マトリックスの中に分散させ、
d)場合により、段階c)の重合体/ナノチューブの混合物を溶融状態または固体状態で引き伸ばすことで配向させる、
段階を含んで成る方法。 - 請求項1から6のいずれか1項記載の補強重合体材料を製造する目的である程度精製されたナノチューブを用いる使用であって、前記重合体材料が電気特性と機械的特性の向上した均衡を示す使用。
- 向上した導電性と機械的特性を示す補強重合体材料を製造する目的で充分な精製と官能化を受けたナノチューブを用いる使用。
- 自動車、織物または他の用途用の電気逸散性材料であって、請求項1から6のいずれか1項記載の補強重合体材料を用いて作られた電気逸散性材料。
- ワイヤーおよびケーブル用の遮蔽物であって、請求項1から6のいずれか1項記載の補強重合体材料を用いて作られた遮蔽物。
