Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a piston ring structure.
In a piston that reciprocates in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine or a compressor (in a cylinder bore formed in the cylinder), when the piston reciprocates in the cylinder, the piston skirt and the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder cause the secondary behavior of the piston ( There is a concern that the problem of increased friction and generation of slap noise may occur due to a stronger contact with the slap.
By the way, the piston skirt portion may have a larger outer diameter due to thermal expansion at a high temperature, and the skirt outer diameter may be larger than the cylinder bore inner diameter.
Therefore, in the case where the piston skirt center portion in the direction perpendicular to the piston pin is formed thinner than the portion near the piston pin, the piston skirt expands due to thermal expansion and becomes larger than the cylinder bore inner diameter. The piston skirt is deformed to prevent strong contact with the cylinder bore and to prevent seizure between the piston and the bore.
Therefore, when a rolling bearing is provided in the piston skirt portion as in the prior art described above, or when a ball bearing is embedded in the piston skirt portion, the piston skirt is made thick to support the rolling bearing or the ball bearing. This will increase the rigidity of the piston skirt. For this reason, at the time of thermal expansion of the piston, there is a concern that the contact surface pressure between the rolling bearing or ball bearing and the cylinder bore becomes high, and it becomes easy to increase friction and cause seizure.
In addition, when a ball bearing is embedded in the piston skirt, there is a concern that the ball slips without rotating when it receives a thrust force. In such a case, the piston is in point contact with the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder bore with a ball, and there is a concern that the surface pressure increases and wear tends to occur.
Further, when a rolling bearing or a ball bearing is provided in the piston skirt portion, the weight of the piston increases. As a result, there are concerns that problems such as deterioration in fuel consumption, output reduction, noise deterioration (including impact noise generated between the bearing and the cylinder bore during piston reciprocation), and oil consumption deterioration may occur.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and in a piston ring structure provided in a piston that reciprocates in a cylinder, while suppressing the occurrence of problems such as piston seizure and fuel consumption deterioration, An object of the present invention is to provide a technique capable of suppressing the generation of friction and slap sounds.
In order to achieve the above object, in the present invention,
In the piston ring structure attached to the ring groove formed on the outer peripheral surface of the piston that reciprocates in the cylinder,
A plurality of balls arranged in the circumferential direction in the ring groove and in contact with the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder;
A backup ring provided on the inner diameter side of the plurality of balls, and biasing the plurality of balls in the outer diameter direction;
It is characterized by providing.
In this way, when the piston reciprocates by applying the ball to the portion where the piston and the cylinder inner surface on which the piston slides, the ball does not slide (does not slide). ) Since rolling occurs, the friction can be further reduced.
When the piston is thermally expanded, the ball is pressed against the cylinder inner peripheral surface as the piston expands. However, the piston is thermally expanded (or the ball is pressed against the cylinder inner peripheral surface). Force to be absorbed) can be absorbed by the backup ring. Therefore, it becomes possible to suppress the ball from being pressed against the cylinder inner peripheral surface side with the expansion of the piston, and it is possible to suppress the piston from increasing in rigidity. As a result, when the piston is thermally expanded, seizure is prevented by deforming at the same time as the piston skirt contacts the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder.
In addition, since the piston ring structure is composed of the ball and the backup ring, it is possible to suppress an increase in the weight of the piston, thereby causing problems such as a deterioration in fuel consumption, a decrease in output, noise, and oil consumption. Can be suppressed.
In the above configuration, a holding member that holds the plurality of balls may be provided between the plurality of balls and the backup ring.
Thereby, the assembly workability | operativity at the time of assembling a some ball | bowl to a piston can be improved.
As a cross-sectional shape of the holding member, it is preferable that the holding member has a substantially U-shape having a groove opened in the outer diameter direction, and the ball is held in the groove. Further, a portion where the opening width is smaller than the diameter of the ball may be provided on the opening side of the groove (a portion corresponding to the outer diameter side from the center of the ball when the ball is disposed in the groove).
In the above configuration, it is preferable that the ball is made of at least a resin and is deformable by being urged to the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder by the backup ring.
By configuring in this way, the length of the portion where the ball and the cylinder inner peripheral surface come into contact with each other can be increased, so that the oil seal effect (sealing function) can be enhanced.
In the above configuration, on the outer periphery of the backup ring,
A plurality of convex portions provided to the vicinity of the cylinder inner peripheral surface;
A plurality of concave portions provided between adjacent convex portions of the plurality of convex portions, and the balls are disposed;
Is good to be formed.
With this configuration, the distance between adjacent balls can be increased, and the number of balls constituting the piston ring structure can be reduced. Therefore, friction can be further reduced.
Further, at a high temperature, the backup ring thermally expands to eliminate a gap between the backup ring and the cylinder inner peripheral surface (the backup ring contacts the cylinder inner peripheral surface). Thus, at the time of high temperature, the length of the portion where the piston ring structure and the cylinder inner peripheral surface come into contact with each other can be increased, so that the oil seal effect can be enhanced. In this case, if the ball is provided so as to be deformable, the length of the portion where the piston ring structure and the cylinder inner peripheral surface come into contact with each other can be further increased, and the oil seal effect can be further enhanced. Become.
Here, the depth of the concave portion in the radial direction is preferably smaller than the diameter of the ball, and a portion having a circumferential width smaller than the diameter of the ball is preferably provided on the outer diameter side of the concave portion.
In addition, said each structure can be employ | adopted combining as much as possible.
ADVANTAGE OF THE INVENTION According to this invention, it becomes possible to provide the technique which can suppress generation | occurrence | production of a friction and a slap sound, suppressing generation | occurrence | production of problems, such as the burning of a piston and a fuel consumption deterioration.

As shown in FIG. 3, the

The

Moreover, it is preferable that the outer peripheral surface of the
As described above, according to the present embodiment, the
When the
Further, when the

The
FIG. 4 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing the
FIG. 5 is a schematic view showing a
As shown in FIG. 5, the
In the groove 13a of the
By providing the
Here, also in the
As described above, according to the present embodiment, in addition to the effects described in the first embodiment, the assembly workability can be improved.
The
FIG. 6 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing a
Similar to the
In this embodiment, the
As described above, the
The
FIG. 7 is a view for explaining a state in which the
Similar to the
Like the
The
The recess 42b is a groove for arranging the
The material of the
Further, for the purpose of improving the assembly workability, a joint is provided at one place in the circumferential direction of the
The
Further, at high temperatures, as shown in FIG. 8, the
Accordingly, as shown in FIG. 8B, the seal length between the
In the
In the
By configuring the
