Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a thermoelectric generator that converts thermal energy into electrical energy.
In order to improve the thermal energy recovery performance in the thermoelectric generator, it is conceivable to increase the number of thermoelectric elements. In this case, it is necessary to improve the cooling performance on the cooling side of the thermoelectric element. However, when cooling is performed using a heat pipe, the number of heat pipes must be increased in order to improve the cooling performance. For this reason, a large number of heat pipes are arranged from the low temperature side to the heat radiating portion, the cooling structure is enlarged, and mountability in an automobile is lowered.
Then, this invention makes it a subject to provide the thermoelectric generator which can miniaturize the cooling structure using a heat pipe.
The thermoelectric generator according to the present invention includes a plurality of thermoelectric elements, a plurality of first heat pipes, one end of which is arranged on the low temperature side of the thermoelectric element, and moves heat from the thermoelectric element to an arbitrary position, and one end Is disposed near the other end of the first heat pipe, and houses the second heat pipe through which heat from the first heat pipe is conducted, the other end of the first heat pipe, and one end of the second heat pipe. And a relay means for conducting heat from the first heat pipe to the second heat pipe, and the second heat pipe has a larger amount of heat transported per one pipe and a smaller number than the first heat pipe. It is characterized by that.
In this thermoelectric generator, heat energy is converted into electric energy by a thermoelectric element, and the heat energy is recovered as electric energy. At this time, in the thermoelectric generator, in order to improve the cooling performance on the low temperature side of the thermoelectric element, the heat on the low temperature side of the plurality of thermoelectric elements is moved by the plurality of first heat pipes. Further, in the thermoelectric generator, the heat moved by the plurality of first heat pipes in the relay means is conducted to the second heat pipe. In the thermoelectric generator, the heat is moved by the second heat pipe, and the heat moved by the second heat pipe is radiated. Since the second heat pipe has a larger amount of heat transported per one pipe than the first heat pipe, the heat moved by the first heat pipe can be moved by a smaller number than the first heat pipe. Therefore, the number of second heat pipes can be less than the number of first heat pipes, and the cooling structure in the thermoelectric generator can be reduced in size. Further, the cost can be reduced by reducing the number of heat pipes on the way. In order to improve the thermoelectric exchange efficiency, it is necessary to increase the number of first heat pipes as the number of thermoelectric elements increases, but to increase the amount of heat transported per second heat pipe. Therefore, it is not necessary to increase the second heat pipe according to the increase in the first heat pipe. Moreover, when this thermoelectric generator is mounted on an automobile or the like, the mountability is improved.
In the thermoelectric generator of the present invention, the relay unit may support the first heat pipe and the second heat pipe with an elastic body.
This thermoelectric generator has a structure in which the first heat pipe and the second heat pipe are supported by an elastic body in the relay means to absorb vibration. Therefore, even when this thermoelectric generator is mounted on an apparatus with vibration such as an automobile, the first heat pipe and the second heat pipe are not damaged by the vibration.
In the thermoelectric generator of the present invention, the relay means may be configured such that the storage length of the other end portion of the first heat pipe and / or the storage length of the one end portion of the second heat pipe is variable.
In this thermoelectric generator, contact between the first heat pipe and the second heat pipe at the relay means is achieved by changing the storage length of the other end of the first heat pipe and the one end of the second heat pipe in the relay means. The area can be adjusted. As a result, the amount of heat conduction from the first heat pipe to the second heat pipe in the relay means (and consequently the amount of heat transported by the first heat pipe and the second heat pipe) can be adjusted, and the heat energy in the thermoelectric generator can be adjusted. The recovered amount can be adjusted. For example, when this thermoelectric generator is mounted on an automobile and a catalyst device is arranged downstream of the thermoelectric element in the exhaust system, the heat recovery performance is improved by increasing the amount of heat conduction in the relay means during normal power generation. When the catalyst is warmed up, such as when the engine is started, the heat conduction in the relay means can be reduced to improve the warming-up performance.
According to the present invention, even when the cooling performance is improved by increasing the number of heat pipes, the cooling structure can be downsized by reducing the number of heat pipes in the relay means.
Hereinafter, an embodiment of a thermoelectric generator according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
In the present embodiment, the thermoelectric generator according to the present invention is applied to a thermoelectric generator that is mounted on an automobile and converts the thermal energy of exhaust gas from the engine into electric energy. In the thermoelectric generator according to the present embodiment, the heat transferred by the eight first heat pipes in the relay is conducted to one second heat pipe, and the heat moved by the second heat pipe is radiated by the bonnet. Has a cooling structure. In this embodiment, there are two embodiments, the first embodiment is a basic configuration, and the second embodiment is a configuration in which the storage length of the second heat pipe can be varied in the repeater. . In addition, since only the structure of a repeater differs in two embodiment, the whole structure of the thermoelectric generator 1 is demonstrated first, and the repeater concerning each embodiment is demonstrated one by one after that.
With reference to FIG. 1, the whole structure of the thermoelectric generator 1 which concerns on this Embodiment is demonstrated. FIG. 1 is an overall configuration diagram of a thermoelectric generator according to the present embodiment.
The thermoelectric generator 1 recovers thermal energy of exhaust gas discharged from an automobile engine as electric energy. In the thermoelectric generator 1, in order to improve the thermoelectric conversion efficiency, the low temperature side of the thermoelectric element is cooled using eight heat pipes. In particular, in the thermoelectric generator 1, in order to improve the mountability, the cooling structure is downsized by reducing the number of eight heat pipes to one on the way. For this purpose, the thermoelectric generator 1 includes
The
Four
The
The
The bonnet 6 functions as a heat radiating portion of the thermoelectric generator 1 and radiates heat moved by the
With reference to FIGS. 2-5, the structure of 5 A of relays which concern on 1st Embodiment is demonstrated. FIG. 2 is a plan view of the repeater according to the first embodiment. FIG. 3 is a front view of the repeater according to the first embodiment. FIG. 4 is a side view of the repeater according to the first embodiment. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA in FIG.
The
In the
Since the thermoelectric generator 1 is mounted on an automobile, it receives vibration. In particular, the long and rod-like
Operation | movement of the thermoelectric generator 1 provided with 5 A of repeaters which concern on 1st Embodiment is demonstrated. When exhaust gas is exhausted from the engine E, hot exhaust gas flows through the exhaust pipe P. On the high temperature end face side of the
In particular, on the low temperature side of the
According to the thermoelectric generator 1 according to the first embodiment, the number of heat pipes is reduced from eight to one by the
With reference to FIG.6 and FIG.7, the structure of the
The
In the
When the motor connecting member 5o is perpendicular to the second heat pipe 4 (the fixed
Thus, in the
When the storage length of the
The motor control in the
Operation | movement of the thermoelectric generator 1 provided with the
When the engine E is started, the heat energy of the exhaust gas is small, and in the catalyst device C, the catalyst temperature is low, so the catalyst is warmed up. At this time, the engine ECU rotates the motor to move the
Therefore, the exhaust gas flows downstream in the
When the warm-up in the catalyst device C is completed, the thermoelectric generator 1 performs normal power generation for recovering the recovered amount of exhaust gas thermal energy with high efficiency. In the engine ECU, the motor is driven to rotate, and the
According to the thermoelectric generator 1 provided with the

It is good also as a structure which changes the heat conduction quantity in a repeater by adjusting the accommodation length of a pipe (input side heat pipe).
