Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a display panel bonding method in which two light-transmitting substrates are bonded together with a photocurable sealing agent in a process of assembling a display panel such as a liquid crystal panel.

The liquid crystal panel encloses liquid crystal and controls the voltage applied to the liquid crystal panel to transmit or block light from the backlight to display a screen.

The BM 15 is formed of, for example, a chromium vapor deposition film or a black resin, and light from the backlight leaks from a portion not related to image display (a portion other than the liquid crystal), for example, a TFT element or a wiring portion. It plays the role of blindfold so as not to disturb.
In the manufacturing process of the liquid crystal panel as described above, a manufacturing method called a drop construction method (referred to as ODF for short) has been adopted. The dropping method is described in
The dropping method will be briefly described below.
(1) Two glass substrates are formed separately. That is, a TFT element and a liquid crystal drive electrode are formed on one substrate, and a BM and a color filter are formed on the other substrate.
(2) On one glass substrate, a plurality of enclosures (hereinafter referred to as outlines, which are so-called liquid crystal screens) are formed using a sealing agent that is an adhesive of an ultraviolet curable resin. The liquid crystal is dropped into the enclosure formed and collected therein. The width of the sealant is 1-1. It is about 5 mm.
(3) The other glass substrate is placed thereon, and the sealing agent is irradiated with ultraviolet rays through the glass substrate. The sealant is cured and the two substrates are bonded (bonded). The sealant is used to seal the liquid crystal and to bond the two substrates. At this time, for example, spherical fine particles called spacers are sprayed between the two glass substrates to secure a space for sandwiching the liquid crystal.
(4) After bonding, the substrate is divided (cut) into sections and incorporated into a personal computer or television as a display screen. In addition, in this application, what is used for bonding of a panel among the adhesives (ultraviolet curable adhesive) of ultraviolet curable resin is called a sealing agent. The sealing agent includes the above-described spacers, and ensures the spacing between the panels when bonded.

In the device disclosed in Patent Document 3, a member that reflects light obliquely is provided between the light irradiation unit and the liquid crystal panel, and light is incident obliquely on the liquid crystal panel to seal a portion that becomes a shadow of the light shielding unit. The agent is cured.
In the devices disclosed in
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and its purpose is to provide a sealing agent applied under a light shielding portion such as a black matrix without tilting the light irradiation portion or providing a reflecting member. It is to propose a bonding method that can be cured and bonded.
In the present invention, the above-described problem is solved as follows.
(1) A light diffusing material is provided between the two light-transmitting substrates and away from the ultraviolet curable sealant (for example, between the contour and the contour) to form a light shielding portion. Irradiate ultraviolet rays from the other side. The ultraviolet rays applied to the light diffusing material enter the lower light-transmitting substrate (TFT substrate), repeat total reflection, and reach the sealant under the light shielding part such as a black matrix. , Cure the sealant.
(2) As the light diffusing material, an ultraviolet curable adhesive can be used.
The ultraviolet curable adhesive has a sufficient diffusion performance and can diffuse the irradiated ultraviolet rays to cure the sealing agent under the light shielding portion.

Here, θ1 is the incident angle, θ2 is the refraction angle (outgoing angle), n1 is the refractive index of the incident side medium, and n2 is the refractive index of the exit side medium (n1> n2).
The refractive index of glass used as a substrate for liquid crystal is about 1.54 (n1), while the refractive index of air is 1.0 (n2). When calculated based on Snell's law, the critical angle in this case is about 40 °. Therefore, of the light incident on the

In the present invention, the following effects can be obtained.
(1) A light diffusing material allows light having an incident angle exceeding a critical angle to be incident on the lower light-transmitting substrate, reflects the light in the substrate, and is applied under the light shielding portion. Therefore, the sealant under the light-shielding part can be cured without tilting the light irradiating part or providing means for making light incident obliquely on the substrate.
(2) An ultraviolet curable adhesive can be used as a light diffusing material, and if an ultraviolet curable adhesive is used as a light diffusing material, it is cured by irradiating with ultraviolet rays. When the substrate is cut, the diffusing material does not contaminate the substrate by adhering to the product substrate.
Moreover, as the light diffusing material, a photocurable sealing agent used for bonding of panels, which is one of ultraviolet curable adhesives, can be used. If a photocurable sealing agent is used, a special material is prepared. There is no need.
Note that the place where the light diffusing material is provided is between the outlines and around the panel, and this part is cut into the product, so even if the light diffusing material is provided, the finished liquid crystal panel is affected. Never give.

FIG. 5 shows the diffuse transmittance of the ultraviolet curable adhesive used in this example. In the figure, the horizontal axis indicates the wavelength (nm) and the vertical axis indicates the transmittance (%). The diffuse transmittance is the ratio of the integrated value of the incident light and the entire light emitted from the light diffusing material. Is the ratio of incident light and straight light that has passed through the light diffusing material without being diffused.
As can be seen from FIG. 5, the transmittance in the vicinity of 365 nm, which is the central wavelength for curing the ultraviolet curable sealant, is 2 to 3% in terms of transmittance (regular transmittance) measured by straight light, The diffuse transmittance obtained by integrating diffused and transmitted light is 62 to 64%.
The diffuse transmittance is 20 to 30 times the regular transmittance, and almost half of the incident light is diffused and transmitted. Therefore, it is considered that the function as a light diffusing material is sufficiently achieved.

The bonded panel is cut between an outline provided with the light diffusing material 21 (see FIG. 4), and a liquid crystal panel is completed as shown in FIG.
Thus, since the area between the outlines is cut and separated, even if a light diffusing material is provided here, the completed liquid crystal panel is not affected.
Lc=2×t×tan θc
FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating a calculation example of the application position and the application width of the
Lc = 2 × t × tan θc
When the application width Wb of the
Further, as shown in the figure, the
If the light diffusing material is applied at such a position and width, as shown in FIG. 6B, the reflected light wraps around the outer end of the sealing

In order to verify the effect of the present invention, two samples as shown in FIG. 8 were prepared and a sealing agent curing experiment was performed.

FIG. 9 shows the experimental results.
No. of FIG. In one sample, the sealant under BM15 was uncured.
In the sample of FIG. 8B, the sealant at the back was cured about 3.5 mm from the edge of BM15.
