Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a brittle material cleaving method and apparatus, and more particularly, to a cleaving method and apparatus for irradiating a liquid crystal glass as a brittle material with laser light to cleave it into a required shape.
In such a conventional cleaving method, first, a plate-like brittle material is irradiated with laser light in the ultraviolet region to form minute grooves on the surface of the brittle material along the dividing line (scribing step). Thereafter, the brittle material is irradiated with the laser beam in the infrared region along the dividing line with the groove, thereby giving thermal strain that leads to cleaving (heating separation step). As a result, a crack enters the thickness direction along the groove and reaches the back surface, so that the liquid crystal glass is cleaved along the dividing line.
By the way, in the conventional cleaving method mentioned above, after performing the scribing process which produces a groove | channel in a brittle material, the heating separation process which gives a thermal strain along a groove | channel is performed. As described above, conventionally, the scribing process and the heat separation process are performed separately, so that the work efficiency when the brittle material is cleaved along the dividing line is deteriorated, and the cleaving work takes time. .
Moreover, the conventional cleaving method has a drawback that the configuration of the cleaving device becomes complicated when the dividing line is a curve or when a plurality of dividing lines intersect.
In view of the circumstances described above, the first aspect of the present invention generates a crack in a portion of the brittle material in the thickness direction by irradiating a required position in the plate-like brittle material with a first laser beam. A method for cleaving a brittle material, in which the crack is grown in the thickness direction of the brittle material by irradiating a portion with a second laser beam and heating the brittle material,
The present invention provides a method for cleaving a brittle material in which the first laser beam and the second laser beam are overlapped to irradiate a required position of the brittle material.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a first laser oscillator that irradiates a required position in a plate-like brittle material with a first laser beam to generate a crack in a part in the thickness direction of the brittle material; The second laser oscillator that grows the crack in the thickness direction of the brittle material and the two laser oscillators and the brittle material are moved relative to each other by irradiating the generated laser beam with the second laser beam and heating the brittle material. A brittle material cleaving device comprising a moving means for changing the irradiation position of both laser beams on the material,
The first laser beam oscillated from the first laser oscillator and the second laser beam oscillated from the second laser oscillator are superimposed on each other and irradiated to a required position of the brittle material. The present invention also provides a brittle material cleaving apparatus that cracks the brittle material by generating cracks in the portion and growing the crack in the thickness direction of the brittle material.
According to the present invention described above, since both the laser beams are superimposed and irradiated to the brittle material, the step of generating a crack in the brittle material along the dividing line and the step of growing the crack in the thickness direction simultaneously. It can be carried out. Therefore, it is possible to shorten the work time for cleaving the brittle material as compared with the above-described conventional one.
The present invention will be described below with reference to the illustrated embodiments. In FIGS. 1 and 2, reference numeral 1 denotes a cleaving apparatus. The cleaving apparatus 1 can cleave a transparent
The cleaving device 1 includes a processing table 3 that supports a plate-like
The processing table 3 is fixedly disposed at a predetermined position, and has a suction means (not shown) on a support surface that supports the
The irradiation means 4 includes a
The
As will be described in detail later, the

Therefore, when the first laser beam L1 is oscillated from the
The
The
In the present embodiment, the focal point F1 of the first laser light L1 is positioned in the vicinity of the
Thus, in the present embodiment, the first laser beam L1 is irradiated from the
Next, on the optical path of the second laser beam L2 oscillated from the second laser oscillator 9 and above the
Between the
As shown in FIG. 4, the focal point F2 of the second laser beam L2 is positioned above the
In the present embodiment, both
The second laser oscillator 9 continuously oscillates the second laser light L2, which is CO2 laser light having a high absorption rate with respect to the
As a result, the second laser beam L2 is absorbed by the
In this embodiment, the irradiation means 4 is moved in the X and Y directions in the horizontal direction by the moving
Note that the lengths of the optical paths of the first laser beam L1 and the second laser beam L2 are constant even when the irradiation unit 4 is moved. Further, in this embodiment, when the thickness or material of the
