Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a connector and an electrical contact used when connecting printed circuit boards (including a flexible printed circuit board) to each other, and a method for manufacturing the electrical contact.
In general, a connector having a socket, a plug, and the like is used to connect printed circuit boards. The socket includes an electrode formed on a connector structure made of a silicon substrate or the like, and a housing that covers the connector structure with a gap between the electrodes. The plug includes a flexible printed circuit board and wiring formed on the flexible printed circuit board corresponding to the electrodes of the socket. And by inserting a plug into the gap of the socket, the wiring of the plug is electrically connected to the electrode of the socket.
In such a connector, when an electrode is formed on a socket, conventionally, it has been performed by molding using a mold or press working. However, in order to realize a fine electrode and a narrow pitch between electrodes, a mold or press working is used. There is a limit to molding by, and recently, micromachine technology has been attracting attention.
One of the micromachine technologies is a screen printing technology, and this screen printing technology has been mainly used as a mounting (post-process) technology so far. For example, it is used for a technique for forming a solder bump for connecting a semiconductor integrated circuit chip and a substrate, or a technique for applying a conductive adhesive.
In addition, it has been proposed to use a conductive resin in which insulating rubber and metal fine particles are mixed as an electrode of the socket (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
However, in the above conventional connector, since the minute protrusion is formed on the hard connector structure made of a silicon substrate or the like, the protrusion deteriorates due to long-term use, and the elastic force is insufficient. Then, the contact between the socket-side electrode and the plug-side wiring becomes unstable, and the electrical performance of the connector may be lowered.
Further, since the protrusion is very small, the displacement of the protrusion when the both electrodes are brought into contact with each other is small. For this reason, the design dimension tolerance of the protrusion is extremely narrow, and if a protrusion satisfying such a strict tolerance is formed on the connector structure, the yield at the time of socket manufacture deteriorates. There is.
Further, in the conventional connector, the metal film formed on the upper surface of the resin elastic member is extremely thin, so that the metal film may be peeled off only by inserting and removing the plug several times into the socket.
Furthermore, a plurality of minute protrusions are provided on the connector structure, and it is extremely important to maintain the positions of these protrusions with high precision. Dedicated jigs such as molds and mounting equipment need to be prepared separately, resulting in the disadvantage of excessive processes and high costs.
An object of the present invention is to provide a connector and an electrical contact that can stably maintain contact between the socket-side electrode and the plug-side wiring and ensure sufficient electrical performance over a long period of time, and a method of manufacturing the electrical contact. According to the present invention, the connector structure is provided with an elastic body, and the protrusion is provided on the elastic body. Therefore, even if the elastic force of the protrusion is deteriorated by long-term use, the elastic body of the connector structure Thus, the entire projection can be urged, and the allowable range of design dimensions can be increased. As a result, it is possible to stably maintain contact between the socket-side electrode and the plug-side wiring over a long period of time.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a connector according to the present invention. The
The
Here, the reason why the silicon substrate is used as the
The
Further, as shown in FIG. 1, the
As shown in FIG. 1, a plurality of through
On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 1, the
FIG. 4 shows the surface of the

FIG. 7 is a bottom view of the
FIG. 8 is a sectional view of the

In this embodiment, the
The first layer and the second layer are base layers, and the thickness of each layer is 0.1 to 0.3 μm. When the first layer is made of chromium, the adhesion to the resin is improved, and when the second layer is made of nickel, electrolytic plating is possible. The film thickness of the third layer is 10 μm, and if this third layer is formed of copper, conductivity can be ensured. The film thickness of the fourth layer is 2 to 3 μm. When the fourth layer is formed of nickel, alloying of the third layer of nickel and the fifth layer of gold can be prevented. The fifth film thickness is about 0.1 μm. When the fifth layer is formed of gold, the
When the

According to the present embodiment, it is possible to simplify the manufacturing process by forming the

Furthermore, the contact structure of this embodiment can be employed not only as a connector but also as an electrical contact for other electronic components such as an IC socket and a probe card.
Note that the

Furthermore, the
FIG. 14 shows a modification of this embodiment. In this modified example, the
