Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a printing system including at least two printing apparatuses such as an electrophotographic printing apparatus.
Usually, a printing apparatus that prints on a long recording medium (hereinafter referred to as a “web”), for example, prints an image or character based on print data for each unit area divided by a predetermined length that is cut after printing. It is configured to print. For example, in an electrophotographic printing apparatus, print data to be printed on a web is exposed on a photosensitive drum at a predetermined cycle by laser scanning. Next, the pattern exposed on the photosensitive drum is visualized with toner, and then transferred to a web conveyed at a constant speed in a transfer unit. The web onto which the pattern has been transferred is fixed by heating and the printing is completed.
However, in the conventional printing apparatus, when it is desired to change the length of the unit area of the web to be printed for each unit area, or when the length of the unit area changes due to an unexpected situation, the print data is appropriately stored in the unit area. There was a problem that printing was not possible. A similar problem exists when a plurality of printing apparatuses are connected in series and the front surface of the web is printed by the first printing apparatus and the back surface is printed by the second printing apparatus. That is, for example, when the web is heated longer than planned by the first printing apparatus due to interruption of printing, moisture may evaporate from the web and the web may shrink. When printing on this web with the second printing device after resuming printing, the pattern printed on the back surface may shift from the pattern printed on the front surface due to shrinkage.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In view of the above problems, an object of the present invention is to provide a printing system capable of matching printing by a preceding printing apparatus with printing by a preceding printing apparatus when printing by connecting a plurality of printing apparatuses in series. Is to provide.
In order to achieve the above object, the printing system according to claim 1 includes a first printing device that prints on a web, and a second printing device that is provided downstream of the first printing device and prints on the web. A first drawing unit that is provided in the first printing apparatus and that draws a first image for each unit area obtained by dividing the web by a predetermined length in a conveyance direction; Heating means provided in one printing apparatus for heating the web, notification means for notifying the second printing apparatus that the unit region has been overheated by the heating means, and the second printing apparatus And a second drawing means for drawing on the web at a predetermined cycle based on print data, and a control means for controlling the conveyance of the web provided in the second printing apparatus. Means of the notification means In response to a force, and changes the conveying speed of the over-heated unit area by the heating means.
In the configuration described above, in the first printing apparatus, the first drawing unit draws the first image for each unit area partitioned by a predetermined length in the web conveyance direction, and the heating unit heats the web. One image is fixed on the web, and printing by the first printing apparatus is completed. In the second printing apparatus, printing on the web is further performed following the first printing apparatus. In the first printing apparatus, when the unit area is overheated by the heating unit, the notification unit notifies the second printing apparatus of the occurrence of overheating. The overheating of the unit region refers to, for example, heating of the unit region exceeding a predetermined time, or heating where the temperature of the unit region exceeds a predetermined temperature due to heating. In accordance with the output from the notification means, the control means changes the transport speed of the overheated unit area. Typically, overheated unit areas often vary considerably in dimensions compared to other unit areas, such as web shrinkage. Therefore, in the second printing apparatus, by changing the conveyance speed of the overheated unit area, the drawing performed at a predetermined cycle by the second drawing unit is performed on the unit area as well. Thus, it is possible to perform appropriately so as to be consistent with the printing by the printing apparatus.
The unit area where overheating by the heating means has occurred is heated for more than a predetermined time, or when the temperature exceeds a predetermined temperature due to heating, the moisture evaporates from the web and the length is It shrinks or the shape is distorted. Therefore, if the second drawing unit draws a unit area in which a change in size or shape has occurred without changing the conveyance speed, it cannot be properly drawn in the unit area based on the print data. . Therefore, if the transport speed of the unit area where overheating has occurred is changed, the drawing based on the print data by the second drawing means performed at a predetermined cycle is already printed even on the unit area whose dimensions have changed. This can be done while matching the first image.
The printing system according to
With the above configuration, in the first printing apparatus, the mark forming unit forms the alignment mark on the web corresponding to the unit area. This alignment mark is detected by the detection means in the second printing apparatus, and the detection means outputs a mark detection signal in response to the detection of the alignment mark. In the second printing apparatus, the web feed control signal generation unit generates a web feed control signal corresponding to the print data to be printed on the unit area of the web at the same cycle as the drawing performed by the second drawing unit. ing. Then, the generation timing of the mark detection signal and the web feed control signal is measured, and a feedback gain for setting the conveyance speed is determined based on the measurement result. The feedback gain corresponds to the change amount when changing the conveyance speed. The transport speed of the unit area is changed using the feedback gain thus obtained, and printing is performed on the unit area by the second printing apparatus. Therefore, the printing by the second printing apparatus can be matched with the printing by the first printing apparatus.
The printing system according to claim 3 is the printing system according to claim 1, wherein the control unit finishes drawing by the second drawing unit on the unit region overheated by the heating unit. The conveyance speed is returned to the speed before the change. With the above configuration, the unit region positioned next to the overheated unit region is drawn by the second drawing unit while being conveyed at the speed before being changed. Therefore, the drawing by the second drawing means for the normal unit area that has not been overheated is performed without being affected by the control of the immediately overheated unit area. Therefore, it is possible to match the printing by the second printing device for the normal unit area with the printing by the first printing device.
The printing system according to claim 4 is the printing system according to claim 1, wherein the drawing unit includes an exposure unit that forms a latent image in the scanning direction of the photosensitive body based on the print data at the predetermined period; And a transfer means for converting the latent image on the photoreceptor into a visible image and transferring it to the web.
With the above configuration, a latent image is formed in a predetermined cycle in the scanning direction of the photoconductor based on the print data. On the other hand, the web conveyance speed is set according to the length between two consecutive alignment marks detected by the detection means. At this time, as the web conveyance speed is set, the moving speed of the photosensitive member also becomes a speed corresponding to the conveyance speed. The reason is that when transferring the latent image that has been visualized to the web, if the web transport speed and the photoreceptor moving speed are different, the image transferred to the web is rubbed and the image quality of the image is reduced. Because it will let you. Then, the latent image on the photosensitive member moving at the same speed is visualized and transferred to the web being conveyed at the set speed, and drawing is performed. More preferably, the photosensitive member is constituted by a photosensitive drum or a photosensitive belt.
In addition to the above-described configuration, the drawing unit may be a unit that draws monochrome or color images by applying ink such as color ink or black ink directly to the web at a predetermined resolution.
According to the printing system of claim 1, when the unit region is overheated by the heating unit, the second printing apparatus can know the occurrence of overheating in the first printing apparatus, Printing according to the occurrence can be performed on the web. For example, in response to this notification, the control means changes the transport speed of the unit area that is overheated, and the second drawing means performs drawing on the unit area that is transported at the changed speed. The drawing by the second drawing means can be matched with the first image drawn by the first printing device in this unit area.
According to the printing system of the second aspect, the first drawing device prints the drawing by the second drawing unit even on the unit area whose length in the transport direction has changed due to overheating. This can be done in alignment with the image.
According to the printing system of the third aspect, after the drawing by the second drawing means on the overheated unit region is completed, the web conveyance speed is returned to the speed before the change, so that it is positioned next. The drawing by the second drawing means for the unit area, that is, the so-called normal unit area that is not overheated can be performed without being affected by the control of the immediately overheated unit area. Therefore, the printing on the unit area by the second printing apparatus can be matched with the printing by the first printing apparatus on the unit area.
According to the printing system of the fourth aspect, the print data can be appropriately drawn on the web through exposure and transfer according to the length of the conveyance speed of the unit area.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 shows an embodiment in which the present invention is applied to an electrophotographic printing apparatus P. In FIG. 1, the printing apparatus P includes a
The web W is transported along a web transport path R provided in the printing apparatus P, and sequentially passes through the
The
The web W that has passed through the guide member 3 is then fed into the foreign matter removing mechanism 4. The foreign matter removing mechanism 4 is provided with
Next, the web W is conveyed to the
Further, the web W passes through the guide shaft 6 and the
Next, in the
The toner image formed on the
The web W on which the toner image is transferred from the
The web W fed out from the transport belt 11 is transported to the fixing
The web W fed out by the
The
The
A
Next, the
The CPF
Next, the operation of the printing apparatus P will be described with reference to FIGS.
As shown in FIG. 3, the web W printed by the printing apparatus P is divided into unit areas (hereinafter referred to as “pages”) corresponding to the head of the print data for each predetermined length in the transport direction. Yes. In each page, an alignment mark (toner mark) Rm is formed in advance at a portion corresponding to the head, and an image Im is printed on each page based on print data. The toner mark Rm is formed for each page. Note that the length of the page in the conveyance direction is usually constant, but may vary from page to page depending on the print data printed on the page and the application of the web.
When the printing device P is instructed to print on the web W to the
FIG. 5 shows details of the vicinity of the
On the other hand, the web W passes the
For example, as the web W is conveyed, as shown in FIG. 4C, the alignment mark Rm of the page P1 of the web W is detected by the
For example, when the length PL1 of the page P1 of the web W is shorter than the expected length, the transport speed v1 of the web W is made slower than the immediately preceding speed v0, and the transport length per unit time of the web Shorten to transfer the image. On the other hand, when the length PL1 of the page P1 of the web W is longer than the predicted length, the web W conveyance speed v1 is made faster than the immediately preceding speed v0, and the web conveyance length per unit time is set. Make the length longer to transfer the image. Thus, by changing the conveyance speed according to the page length of the web W and changing the conveyance amount of the web W per unit time, the image can be transferred according to the length of the page in the conveyance direction. it can.
Next, when the alignment mark Rm of the page P3 is detected at time T5, the
As described above, by calculating the interval between the alignment marks Rm and setting the conveyance speed when the web W between the alignment marks Rm passes through the transfer point TP, the length of the page P in the conveyance direction is set. Accordingly, it is possible to appropriately perform printing based on the print data on this page. Further, by repeating the above operation for each page, it is possible to appropriately perform printing for each page.
Accordingly, when the length of the page P of the web W changes for each page, it is possible to perform appropriate printing based on the print data on each page. That is, regardless of the length of the conveyed page, the print data can be appropriately printed on any page without protruding from the top or the end of the page or leaving an unnecessary margin.
Also, when printing on a continuous web W of pages of a predetermined length, even if some page lengths fluctuate before transfer of print data due to an unexpected situation, However, similarly to a page having no change in length, printing based on print data can be appropriately performed.
In the above embodiment, printing is performed on one side of the web W by the single printing device P. For example, depending on the application, printing is performed on both sides of the web W using a plurality of printing devices, or There is also a demand for performing multiple printing on one side of the web W. Accordingly, a printing system that prints on the web W using two or more printing apparatuses P according to the present invention will be described below with reference to FIG. 6 as another embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in FIG. 6, two printing apparatuses P1 and P2 are installed in series, and a
When the web W is conveyed to the first printing apparatus P1, as shown in FIG. 7A, the image Im is printed based on the print data, and the position corresponding to the head of each page is aligned. A mark (hereinafter referred to as “toner mark”) Rm is formed and discharged from the first printing apparatus P1. The toner mark Rm is formed for each predetermined distance PL0 corresponding to the page of the web W, and the predetermined distance PL0 is changed based on the print data that is the source of the image Im printed on the web W. The means for forming the alignment mark Rm may be provided independently of the means for drawing the image Im. Further, the alignment mark Rm may be formed on the
Next, the front and back of the web W discharged from the first printing device P1 is reversed by the reversing device Tb, and then sent to the second printing device P2, where further printing is performed on the web W. In the second printing apparatus P2, the web surface (first surface) on the side holding the toner mark Rm faces the
The
In the printing system S described above, the web W is preheated by the preheating
In the second printing apparatus, the page head mark Rm of the web W is detected by the
Next, printing on the web W of the second printing apparatus P2 in the printing system S will be described with reference to FIGS. In the second printing apparatus P2, the page head virtually set on the
In the present embodiment, as shown in FIG. 5, the distance on the surface of the
Normally, regarding the printing of the first page started from the time T0 by the second printing apparatus P2, the operator starts the printing after confirming the loading of the web W in a predetermined position in advance. The page top position of printing by the apparatus P2 matches the page top position of printing by the first printing apparatus P1 that has already been completed.
As shown in FIG. 8, at the time T1 when one CPF cycle has elapsed from the time T0, the
ST=(L1−L2)/vp ・・・ (1)
For example, in order to make the top of the second page virtually set on the
ST = (L1-L2) / vp (1)
Further, since the latent image on the
The CPF cycle is detected by the following method. In the
From the above, it is most desirable that the control timing CT coincides with the detection pulse DT of the toner mark Rm actually by the
Each time the toner mark Rm is detected, the
Next, a method for changing the conveyance speed of the web W will be described with reference to FIG. The conveyance speed of the web W includes (1) position correction for matching the detection pulse DT of the toner mark Rm with the control timing CT, and (2) page length correction for sequentially conveying a plurality of pages in the same manner. It is set by two types of correction.
Δt=t−t1 ・・・ (2)
Position Correction Next, position correction will be described. As shown in FIG. 9, the
Δt = t−t1 (2)
In order to correct the positional deviation of the web W corresponding to Δt in the next CPF cycle, the conveyance speed of the web page P4 before time T4 is changed by an amount corresponding to the ratio of Δt to the CPF cycle. If the transport speed of the web W up to time T4 is v2, and the change amount of the transport speed of the web W is Δvt3, Δvt3 is obtained by the following equation.
Δvt3 = (Δt / CPF cycle) × v2 (3)
Δvt3 matches the toner mark Rm detected at time T4 with the page head set on the
Page Length Correction Next, page length correction will be described. When the toner mark Rm is detected, for example, at time T4, the mark time MT (time t0 in FIG. 9) measured when the previous toner mark Rm is detected and the current toner mark Rm are stored in the memory. Based on the mark time MT (time t1 in FIG. 9), the web W before time T4 is equivalent to the ratio of (t0-t1) to the CPF cycle with respect to the CPF cycle started from time T4. Change the transport speed. Assuming that the web W conveyance speed up to time T4 is v2, and the speed at which the web W conveyance speed is accelerated or decelerated is ΔvT3, ΔvT3 is obtained by the following equation.
ΔvT3 = ((t0−t1) / CPF cycle) × v2 (4)
ΔvT3 changes the transport speed of the web W so that the time interval between the toner mark detected last time and the toner mark detected this time, that is, the time required to transport one page of the web W is equivalent to the CPF cycle. This is the correction speed amount for
Along with Δvt3 obtained for position correction, ΔvT3 is set in addition to the conveyance speed v2 of the web W before time T4, and the conveyance speed v3 of the web W after time T4. By setting the transport speed in this way, the top of the page of the web W transported at the speed v3 is coincident with the top based on the print data formed on the
As shown in FIG. 6, when printing is performed by connecting two printing apparatuses P1 and P2 in series, the printing apparatuses P1 and P2 are not always in operation, and the web W can be used as necessary. The operation may be stopped while passing through the printing apparatuses P1 and P2. Hereinafter, operations after the printing apparatuses P1 and P2 are stopped and then restarted will be described with reference to FIGS.
When the printing operation is stopped after a predetermined time, as shown in FIG. 10, in the first printing apparatus P1, a part of the web W remains on the preheating
Therefore, as shown in FIG. 11, when printing is started again (step S1), the
In the printing system including the first and second printing apparatuses P1 and P2, as shown in FIG. 10, the length of the web W from the
Y1 = X−(L2+L3+L4)/PL ・・・ (5)
Y2 = X−(L2+L3)/PL ・・・ (6)
Y1 = X− (L2 + L3 + L4) / PL (5)
Y2 = X- (L2 + L3) / PL (6)
That is, the page from the Y1 page to the Y2 page after the resumption of printing is regarded as a page that has contracted, and is detected by the
Therefore, the
On the other hand, in the
Next, whether or not the page of the web W conveyed to the
On the other hand, if the page that has passed the
Next, the web conveyance speed is changed according to the calculated speed change amount (step S13). When printing is performed also on the next conveyed page (step S14), the process returns to step 5.
By performing printing in the second printing apparatus P2 as described above, the web W that has undergone extremely large heat shrinkage due to the influence of fixing heat or the like during printing by the first printing apparatus becomes the second printing in the subsequent stage. Even if sent to the apparatus, the printing by the second printing apparatus can be accurately aligned with the printing by the first printing apparatus. Therefore, for example, it is possible to improve printing reliability for a web having no feed hole.
In the above-described embodiment, the shrinkage of the web W has been described by taking as an example the case where the preheating
Furthermore, in the above-described embodiment, the configuration in which the present invention is applied to an electrophotographic printing apparatus that prints on a web using a photoconductor and a transfer device based on print data has been described. An ink jet printing apparatus can also be used. In this case, drawing based on the print data is performed directly from the head in the scanning direction of the web. As described above, even when the second printing apparatus is configured by an inkjet printing apparatus, printing by the second printing apparatus can be matched with printing by the first printing apparatus. In the case of printing by the ink jet method, the web is heated, for example, in order to promote drying of the ink on the normal web. Therefore, when the heating of the web is performed upstream of the
