Description
The present invention relates to an ultrasonic transducer having a member such as an acoustic lens formed from a dry gel and a method for manufacturing the same. In particular, the present invention relates to an ultrasonic transducer capable of transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves with high sensitivity to a gas and a method for manufacturing the same.
In recent years, an ultrasonic flowmeter that measures a moving speed of a fluid by measuring a time required for an ultrasonic wave propagating through a fluid flowing in a pipe to transmit a predetermined distance is being used as a gas meter or the like. Such an ultrasonic flowmeter is disclosed in
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view showing the main part of the ultrasonic flowmeter. In the ultrasonic flow meter shown in FIG. 1, a fluid to be measured (for example, natural gas or hydrogen gas) is indicated by an arrow V in a pipe in which a pair of
According to the ultrasonic flow meter of FIG. 1, in the first stage of the measurement sequence, the
In the next stage, the
As described above, the
In the ultrasonic flowmeter shown in FIG. 1, when an alternating voltage is continuously applied, it is difficult to measure the propagation time because the ultrasonic wave is continuously emitted from the ultrasonic transducer, so that it is usually a pulse signal. A burst voltage signal having a carrier wave as a carrier voltage is used as a drive voltage.
Hereinafter, the measurement principle of the ultrasonic flowmeter will be described in more detail.
First, an ultrasonic burst signal is radiated from the
The
In addition, the time from when an ultrasonic pulse is radiated from the
In FIG. 1, the flow velocity of the fluid flowing in the pipe is V, the velocity of the ultrasonic wave in the fluid is C, and the angle between the direction of flow of the fluid and the propagation direction of the ultrasonic pulse is θ. When the
f1=1/t1=(C+Vcosθ)/L ・・・(1) f1 = 1 / t1 = (C + Vcos θ) / L (1)
Conversely, if the
f2=1/t2=(C−Vcosθ)/L ・・・(2) f2 = 1 / t2 = (C−Vcos θ) / L (2)
The frequency difference Δf between both sing-around frequencies is expressed by the following equation (3).
Δf=f1−f2=2Vcosθ/L ・・・(3) Δf = f1-f2 = 2V cos θ / L (3)
According to Expression (3), the flow velocity V of the fluid can be obtained from the distance L of the ultrasonic propagation path and the frequency difference Δf. The flow rate can be determined from the flow velocity V.
In such an ultrasonic flow meter, high accuracy is required in order to measure an accurate flow rate. In order to increase the accuracy, it is important to increase the S / N of the ultrasonic signal to be transmitted / received.
In order to increase the S / N ratio of the ultrasonic signal in the ultrasonic transducer, there is a method of focusing the ultrasonic wave on the position of the ultrasonic transducer for reception using an acoustic lens. When transmitting an ultrasonic wave from a flat plate type ultrasonic transducer that does not focus the ultrasonic wave, the transmitted ultrasonic wave has a propagation form defined by the frequency and the opening size of the ultrasonic transducer. Become. For this reason, the receiving ultrasonic transducer placed at the position facing the ultrasonic transducer transmitting the ultrasonic wave efficiently receives the ultrasonic wave (increasing S / N). As a result, it is difficult to realize an ultrasonic flowmeter with high accuracy.
However, in order to realize the
In addition, when the

(Embodiment 1)
Hereinafter, a first embodiment of an ultrasonic transducer according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.
An
The
The
On the other hand, when receiving an ultrasonic wave, the ultrasonic wave propagating through the
The material of the
The
A dry gel is a porous body formed by a sol-gel reaction. More specifically, it has a solid skeleton that is solidified by the reaction of the gel raw material liquid. First, a wet gel in which the solid skeleton part contains a solvent is formed, and then the solvent is removed by drying to obtain a final dry gel. This dry gel is a porous body having a solid skeleton part of several nm to several μm, and continuous pores having an average pore diameter in the range of about 1 nm to several μm formed between the solid skeleton parts. is there.
The dry gel has such a property that, in a low density state, the speed of sound propagating through the solid portion becomes extremely small, and the speed of sound propagating through the gas portion in the porous body by the pores becomes extremely small. Therefore, in a low density state, the sound speed shows a very slow value of 500 m / sec or less, and an extremely low acoustic impedance. In particular, when the solid skeleton and the pore diameter are as small as several nanometers, a porous body having an extremely slow sound speed can be obtained. In addition, the nanometer-sized pores have a feature that sound waves can be emitted with a high sound pressure when used as an acoustic matching member because the pressure loss of the gas is large. This also means that the attenuation of ultrasonic waves inside is extremely small.
When the
An acoustic lens made of silicon rubber or the like is used for medical or underwater ultrasonic transducers to focus the ultrasonic waves radiated from the
When the sound speed inside the acoustic lens is larger than the sound speed in the propagation medium, the shape of the acoustic lens needs to be concave in order to focus the ultrasonic wave. For this reason, when an ultrasonic transducer equipped with an acoustic lens is used in a flow meter, the depression of the transmission / reception surface of the ultrasonic transducer may cause disturbance in the flow of the measurement fluid, and accurate measurement may not be possible. is there.
In order to transmit ultrasonic waves to air, for example, using a convex acoustic lens, it is necessary to form the acoustic lens from a material having a sound velocity of 340 m / sec or less. However, no material with such a low sound velocity has existed in the past.
In this embodiment, since the acoustic lens is produced from a dry gel having a low sound velocity, it is possible to focus the ultrasonic wave in the gas by the convex
Hereinafter, the manufacturing method of the ultrasonic transducer of this embodiment will be described.
First, the
In the present embodiment, lead zirconate titanate ceramics are used as the
The sound speed of lead zirconate titanate ceramics is about 3800 m / sec, and it is known that the piezoelectric body strongly resonates when its thickness is ½ the wavelength. The transmission / reception efficiency is improved.
In this embodiment, the
The first
In the present embodiment, the porous body constituting the
This porous body has an apparent density of 0.7 × 10 3 kg / m 3 , a sound velocity of about 2000 m / sec, and an acoustic impedance of 1.4 × 10 6 kg / m 2 / sec. This porous body is formed into a diameter of 12 mm, which is the same as the piezoelectric body, and the thickness of the acoustic matching member is preferably about 1/4 of the wavelength of ultrasonic waves to be transmitted / received, because the transmission / reception efficiency is particularly high. Since the sound velocity was 2000 m / sec and the ultrasonic frequency was 500 kHz, the thickness of the silica / glass porous body serving as the first acoustic matching layer was set to 1.0 mm.
The second

As the solid skeleton portion of the inorganic material, silicon oxide (silica), aluminum oxide (alumina), titanium oxide, or the like can be used. In addition, as the solid skeleton portion of the organic material, a general thermosetting resin or thermoplastic resin can be used. For example, polyurethane, polyurea, phenol curable resin, polyacrylamide, polymethyl methacrylate, or the like can be used. .
In the present embodiment, a dry gel having silicon oxide as a solid skeleton is employed because of cost, environmental stability, and ease of manufacture. Since this material is close in composition to the silica / glass porous body which is the first acoustic matching layer, it has good adhesion.

The present applicant has disclosed a method for forming a dry gel having a laminated structure having different densities for each layer in the specification of Japanese Patent Application No. 2002-370241. In the present embodiment, the second
First, a dry gel layer to be the second
More specifically, on the first
Next, an
First, an acoustic
Next, as shown in FIG. 4 (b), the gel
After filling the gel raw material liquid into the concave portion of the acoustic
If the gel raw material liquid does not penetrate into the first
After the acoustic
Since the gel constituting the
Since the dry gel of the
Specifically, it is preferable to perform the following operations. First, after replacing the gel raw material liquid remaining in the wet gel with ethanol, the complex removed from the acoustic
When the gel does not break with respect to the capillary force at the time of solvent drying, a normal drying method may be performed. In this case, since a supercritical drying apparatus or the like is not necessary, time and cost can be reduced.
In the present embodiment, the convex
The density of the acoustic lens produced by the above method is 0.15 × 10 3 kg / m 3 , and the density of the second
Since the true specific gravity of the first
Next, the ultrasonic transducer shown in FIG. 3 is obtained by bonding the composite of the acoustic matching layers 4a and 4b and the
The composite body and the
The
In the present embodiment, the acoustic matching member has a two-layer structure, but an acoustic matching member having a one-layer structure or a three-layer structure may be used according to the required ultrasonic characteristics. Alternatively, the acoustic matching member may be omitted and the
In the case where it is desired to diffuse the ultrasonic wave instead of being converged by the
According to the manufacturing method of the ultrasonic transducer of this embodiment, after the composite body of the acoustic matching layers 4a and 4b and the
(Embodiment 2)
Next, a second embodiment of the ultrasonic transducer according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. The
The
The
A first
In the present embodiment, the use of the structural support 9 shown in FIG. 5 makes it very easy to handle the
Since a voltage signal is applied to the
Even when the fluid to be subjected to ultrasonic transmission / reception is not a combustible gas, if the fluid reacts with the
The material of the structural support 9 is not limited to a metal material such as stainless steel, and a material corresponding to the purpose is selected from ceramic, glass, resin, and the like. In the present embodiment, the external fluid and the
(Embodiment 3)
Next, an embodiment of an ultrasonic flowmeter according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.
The ultrasonic flowmeter of the present embodiment is installed so that the fluid to be measured flows at a velocity V in a pipe that functions as the flow
At a certain point in the measurement operation, the
The
The output of the
Hereinafter, the operation of this ultrasonic flowmeter will be described in more detail.
Consider a case in which LP gas flows through the flow
When the
The
Next, the
Contrary to the measurement of the propagation time t1, an ultrasonic pulse is transmitted by the
Here, L is the distance connecting the centers of the
The propagation times t1 and t2 are each obtained by measurement. Since the distance L is known, the flow velocity V can be obtained by measuring the times t1 and t2, and the flow rate can be determined from the flow velocity V.
In such an ultrasonic flowmeter, the propagation times t1 and t2 are measured by a method called a zero cross method. In this method, an appropriate threshold level is set for the received ultrasonic waveform, and the time at which the amplitude becomes zero after the threshold level is measured is measured.
When the S / N of the received signal is poor, the point at which the amplitude becomes 0 fluctuates with time depending on the noise level. Therefore, t1 and t2 cannot be measured accurately, and an accurate flow rate can be measured. It can be difficult.
When the ultrasonic transducer of the present invention is used as the ultrasonic transducer of such an ultrasonic flowmeter, the S / N of the received signal is improved, and t1 and t2 can be measured with high accuracy. It becomes possible.
As shown in FIG. 3 or 5, the
In the present embodiment, a so-called Z-path arrangement as shown in FIG. 6 is adopted as the arrangement of the
In the embodiment described above, a configuration in which the dry gel is in direct contact with the
(Embodiment 4)
The
The ultrasonic transducer shown in FIG. 8A has a
In the example of FIG. 8A, the density of the dry gel constituting one layer of the
Such an
Instead of forming the
