BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a coupler and a coupler array used for digital signal transmission.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The frequency component handled in the high-speed data transfer circuit is entering the order of several hundred MHz to GHz. When such a high-speed data transfer circuit is connected to other circuit parts, it is important to improve the frequency characteristics of the transmission line between them. As such means, it is known that the transmission efficiency can be maintained without lowering the transmission speed by providing a coupler element on the transmission line. In the following description, “coupler” means “directional coupler”. “Directional coupler” is synonymous with “directional coupler”.
[0003]
In configuring a coupler element, conventionally, a main line having a length of about λ / 4 for a wavelength λ of a desired frequency (for example, 1.5 GHz) is formed on an inner layer of a printed circuit board of a motherboard on which a high-speed data transfer circuit is mounted. In addition, a sub-line is provided in parallel to the main line, a 50Ω load is connected to one end, a signal component of about (−10) dB is extracted from the other end, and reflection loss of traveling waves is suppressed, High-speed data transfer was performed.
[0004]
When a plurality of lines for such coupler elements are provided in parallel from the high-speed data transfer circuit board, and the coupler elements corresponding to these transmission lines are configured using the inner layer of the motherboard, λ / 4 The layer structure for forming the wavelength line becomes complicated. In addition, the mother board is generally composed of a glass epoxy substrate, and its relative dielectric constant is as low as around 4, so that the area occupied by the coupler elements necessary to ensure the desired frequency characteristics increases. For this reason, the mother board becomes larger, the number of layers increases, the yield decreases, and as a result, the price increases.
[0005]
Therefore, it is a problem whether a chip-type directional coupler used in the technical field of mobile phones cannot be used as a coupler element. For example,
[0006]
[0007]
Further, in
[0008]
However, the number of directional couplers used in the technical field of mobile phones is at most about 2 to 3, and the directional coupler only needs to have a terminal structure that matches such usage. In the case of digital signal circuits that perform high-speed data transfer, the number of couplers used is significantly greater than that of mobile phones, and is limited to parallel lines coming out from high-speed data transfer elements etc. with high wiring density. The coupler must be connected within the specified area.
[0009]
Furthermore, a signal handled in a high-speed digital signal circuit is a digital signal including a large number of frequency components, and a wideband frequency characteristic is required. On the other hand, in the case of a mobile phone, a use frequency is specified. Unlike the high-speed data transfer circuit, the directional coupler used does not require such a wide band frequency characteristic.
[0010]
Because of the differences as described above, the directional coupler used in the mobile phone does not satisfy the above-described conditions required for a coupler or coupler array for a high-speed data transfer circuit, and can be used as it is. is not. For example, in the directional coupler described in

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
An object of the present invention is to provide a small-sized and high-performance coupler and coupler array that can be mounted on a mother board and can realize downsizing, high performance, and low price of the entire high-speed data transfer system. .
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-described problems, the present invention discloses a coupler according to five aspects and a coupler array using them.
[0016]
1. Coupler according to the first aspect
The coupler according to the first aspect includes a dielectric substrate, a first conductor line, and a second conductor line. The first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric base and face each other through a dielectric layer formed by the dielectric base.
[0017]
One end of the first conductor line is electrically connected to a first terminal provided on one surface of the dielectric substrate, and the other end of the first conductor line is located at a position opposite to the first terminal. It is electrically connected to a second terminal provided on one surface of the substrate.
[0018]
One end of the second conductor line is electrically connected to a third terminal provided on the side where the first terminal is located on one surface of the dielectric base, and the other end is the second terminal. Is electrically connected to a fourth terminal provided on one surface of the dielectric substrate.
[0019]
As described above, in the coupler according to the first aspect, the first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric substrate and face each other through the dielectric layer formed by the dielectric substrate. Therefore, the dielectric layer is made of a high relative dielectric constant material, the line lengths of the first conductor line and the second conductor line can be shortened, and the overall shape can be reduced.
[0020]
The first conductor line has one end electrically connected to the first terminal and the other end electrically connected to a second terminal provided at a position opposite to the first terminal. One conductor line has one end as a signal input end and the other end as a signal output end, and can have a terminal arrangement that matches the signal transmission direction. For this reason, it is possible to realize a terminal arrangement structure that is usually well suited for a signal transmission line formed linearly on a motherboard.
[0021]
The second conductor line has one end electrically connected to a third terminal provided on the side where the first terminal is located, and the other end provided on the side where the second terminal is located. Therefore, the second conductor line can have a terminal arrangement in accordance with the transmission direction of the coupled signal, with one end serving as a coupling end and the other end serving as a terminating resistor connection end. For this reason, it is possible to realize a terminal arrangement structure that is usually suitable for a signal transmission line formed on a motherboard.
[0022]
Furthermore, the first terminal and the second terminal provided in the first conductor line, and the third terminal and the fourth terminal provided in the second conductor line are one surface of the dielectric substrate, that is, Since it is provided on the same surface, one side of the dielectric substrate is mounted facing the mounting surface of the mother board, and the first to fourth terminals are joined to the wiring pattern formed on the mounting surface. it can.
[0023]
Therefore, it is possible to obtain a small and high performance coupler that can be mounted on a mother board and can realize downsizing, high performance, and low price of the entire high-speed data transfer system.
[0024]
2. Coupler according to the second aspect
In the coupler according to the second aspect, the first conductor line and the second conductor line have a meander pattern, are embedded in the dielectric substrate, and are mutually connected via a dielectric layer by the dielectric substrate. opposite.
[0025]
One end of the first conductor line is electrically connected to a first terminal provided on the dielectric substrate, and the other end of the first conductor line is located at a position opposite to the first terminal. Is electrically connected to a second terminal. One end of the second conductor line is electrically connected to a third terminal provided on the side where the first terminal is located, and the other end is provided on the side where the second terminal is located. The fourth terminal is electrically connected.
[0026]
Even in the coupler according to the second aspect, the first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric substrate and are opposed to each other via the dielectric layer of the dielectric substrate. Is made of a high relative dielectric constant material, the lengths of the first conductor line and the second conductor line can be shortened, and the overall shape can be reduced.
[0027]
The first conductor line has one end electrically connected to the first terminal and the other end electrically connected to the second terminal. Therefore, one end of the first conductor line is used as a signal input end, and the other end Can be arranged as a signal output terminal in accordance with the signal transmission direction. For this reason, it is possible to realize a terminal arrangement structure that is usually well suited for a signal transmission line formed linearly on a motherboard.
[0028]
Since the second conductor line has one end electrically connected to the third terminal and the other end electrically connected to the fourth terminal, one end of the second conductor line is used as a coupling end, and the other end Can be used as a connection end for the terminating resistor, and a terminal arrangement that matches the transmission direction of the combined signal can be taken. For this reason, it is possible to realize a terminal arrangement structure that is usually suitable for a signal transmission line formed on a motherboard.
[0029]
In the coupler according to the second aspect, a particularly important point is that the first conductor line and the second conductor line have meander patterns. Since the first conductor line and the second conductor line are opposed to each other through the dielectric layer, a dielectric layer facing region having a meander pattern is generated. With such a structure, the occupied area can be greatly reduced, and a wide band frequency characteristic can be maintained, and it is extremely useful as a coupler for a high-speed data transfer circuit that handles a digital signal containing a large number of frequency components. I understood.
[0030]
Therefore, in the second aspect, it is possible to obtain a small and high-performance coupler that can be mounted on a motherboard and can realize downsizing, high performance, and low price of the entire high-speed data transfer system. Become.
[0031]
3. Coupler according to the third aspect
In the coupler according to the third aspect, the first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric base and face each other through a dielectric layer formed by the dielectric base. The dielectric layer between the first conductor line and the second conductor line has a relative dielectric constant different from that of the other dielectric layers constituting the dielectric substrate.
[0032]
In the coupler according to the third aspect, the first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric base and face each other through the dielectric layer by the dielectric base.
According to the above configuration, the frequency characteristics and the coupling amount are adjusted according to the application in which the coupler is used by selecting the relative dielectric constant of the dielectric layer existing between the first conductor line and the second conductor line. However, when a small and high-performance coupler is realized and mounted on a motherboard, the high-speed data transfer system can be reduced in size, improved in performance and reduced in price.
[0033]
4). Coupler according to the fourth aspect
In the coupler according to the fourth aspect, the first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric base and face each other through a dielectric layer formed by the dielectric base.
[0034]
The first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric base and face each other through a dielectric layer formed by the dielectric base. The first conductor line constitutes a main line, and the conductor width is different from the conductor width of the second conductor line.
[0035]
Even in the coupler according to the fourth aspect, the first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric base and face each other through the dielectric layer by the dielectric base. It is made of a high relative dielectric constant material, the lengths of the first conductor line and the second conductor line can be shortened, and the overall shape can be reduced.
[0036]
In addition, since the first conductor line has a conductor width different from the conductor width of the second conductor line, even if there is a shift in the opposite position of the second conductor line with respect to the first conductor line, The shift is changed to the facing area between the first conductor line and the second conductor line as long as the conductor width of the first conductor line is within the difference between the conductor width of the second conductor line. There is no. For this reason, characteristic fluctuations caused by misalignment of the line conductor formation are avoided, and a small and high performance coupler is realized and mounted on the motherboard. Price can be realized.
[0037]
The first conductor line preferably has a conductor width larger than that of the second conductor line. With such a configuration, signal transmission loss in the first conductor line constituting the main line can be reduced.
[0038]
5. Coupler according to the fifth aspect
In the coupler according to the fifth aspect, the first conductor line and the second conductor line are embedded in the dielectric base and face each other via a dielectric layer formed by the dielectric base.
[0039]
The first conductor line has impedance matching means between a first terminal and a second terminal to which both ends thereof are connected.
[0040]
As another aspect, the second conductor line is separated from the first conductor line or together with the first conductor line, with the third terminal and the fourth terminal connected at both ends thereof. You may have an impedance matching means in between.
[0041]
In general, the first conductor line or the second conductor line preferably has an increased line width in order to reduce insertion loss. However, when the line width of the first conductor line or the second conductor line is increased, the characteristic impedance is lowered, which causes a problem that impedance mismatch occurs with the input end.
[0042]
According to the coupler according to the fifth aspect, the first conductor line (or the second conductor wiring) has the first terminal and the second terminal (or the third terminal and the fourth terminal) to which both ends thereof are connected. Impedance matching means is provided between the first conductor line (or the second conductor wiring) and impedance matching can be achieved by the matching means while suppressing insertion loss.
[0043]
If a dielectric substrate having a high relative dielectric constant is used and the impedance of the first conductor line or the second conductor line is set to 50Ω, the line width must be narrower than the process accuracy, and transmission There is a risk of increasing the loss of the track.
[0044]
On the other hand, since the coupler according to the fifth aspect has matching means, the first conductor line or the second conductor line is matched with a sufficiently wide line width as an impedance lower than 50Ω. Can be used for impedance matching with the input / output terminal set to 50Ω. For this reason, the coupler which concerns on a 5th aspect can suppress insertion loss, avoiding the problem on process accuracy.
[0045]
6). Coupler array
The coupler array according to the present invention includes a plurality of coupler elements. The plurality of coupler elements are constituted by couplers according to the present invention, and share a dielectric base.
[0046]
According to such a coupler array, it is possible to achieve further miniaturization, higher performance, lower cost, etc. of the entire high-speed data transfer system.
[0047]
When configuring the coupler array, the plurality of coupler elements may be arranged in the horizontal direction or in the vertical direction.
[0048]
The coupler array preferably includes a ground electrode. This ground electrode is disposed between the couplers. According to such a structure, interference between the couplers can be blocked by the ground electrode. The ground electrode can be composed of a conductor that passes through the dielectric substrate in the thickness direction.
