[Industrial application fields]
The present invention relates to an apparatus for constant belt speed control of equipment having a belt apparatus that requires constant speed running. There are many apparatuses that incorporate a belt driving device such as an image forming apparatus, for example, a printer, a facsimile machine, and a copying machine. In these devices, it is desired that the belt travels stably at a constant speed, and image disturbance occurs when the belt deviates from the constant speed. The present invention relates to a technique for increasing the accuracy of speed detection means for returning a belt to an original speed when the belt deviates from a target speed.
[0002]
[Prior art]
There is an increasing demand for color printers and color copiers that use electrostatic imaging technology.
Some color image forming apparatuses use an electrostatic image forming system. For example, an electrostatic latent image is formed on a dielectric by discharge or contact charging using a needle-like electrode, and this is developed, or analog or digitally on a photoconductor having a uniformly charged surface. A so-called electrophotographic system is known in which an electrostatic latent image is formed by exposure and developed. Hereinafter, for convenience of explanation, an electrophotographic method will be described as an example, but the present invention can be applied to an electrostatic image forming method in general.
[0003]
A multi-color developing device is provided around one photoconductor, and toner is adhered to these photoconductors to form a composite toner image on the photoconductor, and the toner image is transferred to record a color image on the transfer paper. A so-called one-drum type and a plurality of photoconductors arranged side by side are each provided with a developing device, and a single color toner image is formed on each photoconductor, and the single color toner images are sequentially transferred to transfer paper. There is a so-called tandem type that records a composite color image.
[0004]
Comparing the 1-drum type and the tandem type, since the former has one photoconductor, there is an advantage that the size can be relatively reduced and the cost can be reduced. Times) Since image formation is repeated to form a full-color image, it is difficult to speed up image formation. The latter, on the contrary, has the advantage that it is easy to increase the speed of image formation, although there is a disadvantage that the size is increased and the cost is increased.
Recently, full-color and monochrome-like speeds are desired, and the tandem type has been attracting attention.

FIG. 7 is a view showing a main part of an image forming apparatus of a tandem type direct transfer system.
An example of a color image forming apparatus suitable for carrying out the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. In the color image forming apparatus configured as described above, the error in the distance between the photosensitive drum axes, the parallelism error in the photosensitive drum, the installation error in the deflection mirror, the writing timing error of the exposure light on the photosensitive drum, the linear velocity of the photosensitive drum. Due to fluctuations and the like, there is a problem in that images do not overlap at positions that should originally overlap, and positional deviation occurs between colors. As the component of this positional deviation, each image position is mainly in the sub-scanning direction (conveying direction of the
[0011]
FIG. 8 is a diagram for explaining a position error during movement of the transfer belt.
In the figure, the horizontal axis indicates the amount of movement of the belt, and the vertical axis indicates the amount of deviation from the original position of the belt.
In particular, the present invention provides a belt conveying device that reduces the uneven speed of the conveying belt that causes the sub-scanning registration deviation. As described in the prior art, the positioning error due to the speed fluctuation of the belt conveying device used in the image forming apparatus as shown in FIG. 7 is caused by the belt thickness fluctuation, the roller eccentricity, and the drive motor speed unevenness. As shown in FIG. 8, the waveform has a plurality of frequency components. The output image obtained by superimposing the images formed during the position variation outputs an image in which the positions of the respective colors are not aligned, which causes image quality deterioration such as color shift and color change.
[0012]
FIG. 9 is a diagram for explaining the influence of fluctuations in belt travel on the image.
FIG. 4A is a diagram for explaining a four-color superposition state when an image is formed while there is a belt running variation. FIG. 4B is a diagram for explaining a state in which image formation is performed after removing low frequency components.
As shown in FIG. 5A, even if the image formation start time for each color is adjusted by some method, if there are a plurality of frequency components in the belt running unevenness, the image superposition at an arbitrary point P is A certain color is shifted to the plus side with respect to the original position, and the other color is shifted to the minus side, so that pixels that should be the same point are formed at different positions depending on the color.
[0013]
On the other hand, in FIG. 5B, image formation is performed after removing the low frequency component using detection of the rotational speed of the roller, feedback to the drive source, and the like. As long as the image formation start time for each color is matched, the high-frequency component remains, and thus the deviation from the original position cannot be erased. However, since the colors of the pixels at the arbitrary point P have almost the same positional deviation, they are almost the same. Pixels are formed at the same point, and color misregistration can be almost eliminated.
[0014]
In an image forming apparatus provided with a rotating body for image formation such as a photoreceptor belt and an intermediate transfer belt, in order to perform high-precision alignment of an image on a transfer material conveyed by the rotation moving unit and the rotation moving unit In addition, it is required to accurately control the moving amount and moving position of the rotary moving part of the rotating body. However, if the rotational angular velocity of the rotating body fluctuates for some reason, the moving amount and moving position of the rotary moving part of the rotating body also fluctuate, and the rotational moving part and the transfer material transported by the rotary moving part are also changed. It was difficult to suppress the position error of the image with high accuracy.
[0015]
Conventionally, in order to suppress an image position error due to fluctuations in the moving speed of the rotary moving portion of the rotating body with high accuracy, the rotating shaft of a driving roller of an endless belt-like rotating body such as a transfer belt or a paper transport belt, A rotary encoder is directly connected to a rotating shaft of a cylindrical member such as a body drum, and based on the rotational angular velocity of the rotating body detected by the encoder, image forming is performed to control the rotational angular velocity of a driving motor that is a driving means for the rotating body An apparatus is known (see Patent Document 1). This image forming apparatus indirectly controls the amount of movement (moving position) of the rotationally moving portion of the rotating body by controlling the rotational angular velocity of the rotating body.
An example of a method of forming a mark on the belt surface, calculating a belt surface speed from a pulse interval obtained by detecting the mark with a sensor, and feeding back to the control is also proposed (see

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As a method of reducing the running unevenness of the belt device, there is a method of detecting the speed of the belt surface and performing speed control so that the belt running speed becomes constant according to the detected value. When this method is used, the accuracy of the belt speed detection unit is important, and the decrease in the accuracy of speed detection appears as running unevenness of the belt that is controlled based on the data. Although the above-mentioned prior art does not mention a method for forming a mark on the belt and a sensing method, belts generally used for the above-mentioned purposes have flexibility, thickness deviation, deformation, and the like. For this reason, when the mark formed for measuring the surface position is detected, fluctuations in the detection position and fluctuations in the detection angle occur greatly, and measurement errors and measurement errors are likely to occur.
[0018]
FIG. 10 is a schematic diagram of a sensing method using a photo interrupter.
11, 12, and 13 are diagrams showing the relationship between the light beam and the light receiving portion due to the positional variation of the optical mark. In each figure, (a) is a state when the transmissive part is on the optical axis of the photo interrupter, (b) is a state when the light shielding part which is a non-transmissive part is on the optical axis, and (c) is a light receiving part. The output waveforms from are shown respectively. As the optical mark, a non-transmissive portion may be provided on the transmissive member, or a transmissive portion such as a hole may be provided on the non-transmissive member.
In each figure,

FIG. 13 shows a state in which the belt moves vertically, and the belt is moving closer to the light receiving unit.
As is clear from the figure, when the center of the transmission part 3b coincides with the optical axis, the projected light flux passing through the transmission part 3b becomes narrower than in the case of FIG. Therefore, the projected light beam that has passed through the transmission part 3b cannot cover the opening of the
[0023]
When such vertical fluctuation of the belt occurs during detection of the optical mark, a signal whose offset level and contrast fluctuate is detected. Except for a level just between the maximum value and the minimum value of the output, if a pulse is generated with a constant threshold value, a pulse whose duty ratio fluctuates is obtained, and a position error is detected by the fluctuation amount. As a result, even if the belt travel is at a constant speed, it may be detected as if it is fluctuating. Or vice versa, the correct traveling speed cannot be detected.
Even when a reflective photocoupler is used as the detection device, it will be described that the vertical fluctuation of the belt gives an error to the output.
[0024]
FIG. 14 is a diagram for explaining a reading error in the reflection type photocoupler.
In the figure,
Sensors called so-called reflective photocouplers often have an angle between the optical axis of the projection and the detection surface, and have an angle with respect to the moving direction when reading the optical mark. There are many cases where setting is recommended. This is mainly a measure for avoiding malfunction due to surface reflection from a non-reflective surface.

There are several other factors that affect the output of the light receiving unit.
[0026]
FIG. 15 is a diagram for explaining a fluctuation component of the belt that affects the output of the light receiving unit. FIG. 4A shows the unevenness of the belt surface, FIG. 5B shows the inclination of the belt surface angle α in the belt traveling direction, and FIG. 5C shows the inclination of the belt surface angle β in the direction orthogonal to FIG. .
Since belt-like objects called intermediate transfer belts and photoreceptor belts used in electrophotographic devices are flexible, they move while causing (a) irregularities, (b) and (c) angle fluctuations as shown in the figure. To do. If there is such a variation, there is a possibility that correct position information of the optical mark cannot be obtained in the light receiving unit.
The present invention provides an optical mark sensor that reads an optical mark formed on an object having such surface fluctuation with high accuracy.
[0027]
Therefore, in the present invention, attention is paid to the change in the distance between the speed detection mark and the detection sensor in the belt speed detection unit, and the decrease in the speed detection accuracy due to the change in the detection angle. A detection device is configured to maintain the detection accuracy and read the optical mark with high accuracy regardless of these fluctuations.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an embodiment of the present invention.
In the figure, reference numeral 22 'denotes a photocoupler as a detection device, 23 denotes a light projecting unit, and 24 denotes a light receiving unit. Other symbols are the same as those in FIG.
FIG. 2 is a diagram for explaining the positional relationship between the photocoupler and the optical mark. The figure (a) is the figure seen from the belt end surface side, and the figure (b) is the figure seen from the running direction of the belt.

Since the non-reflective portion 21b has transmission or absorption characteristics, the light incident thereon is not reflected, and therefore there is no light incident on the light receiving portion from the non-reflective portion 21b. Among the diffuse reflection characteristics, the reflection characteristic called the perfect diffused surface, in particular, reflects the maximum amount of light in the direction perpendicular to the surface, but in general diffuse reflection, imperfect regular reflection characteristics are mixed, so the angle direction of regular reflection The maximum amount of light is reflected. Therefore, the configuration shown in FIG. 2B is the most efficient configuration for detecting the presence of the reflecting

According to this configuration, it is possible to prevent the position information detection error due to the belt surface variation shown in FIG. In other words, since the optical axis related to light projection and light reception of the photocoupler is perpendicular to the belt surface, there is no fluctuation in the belt traveling direction of the light beam irradiation position reaching the surface even if the position of the surface changes. The detection position will not be wrong. Therefore, the belt traveling speed can be correctly detected.
However, when there is a position variation in the vertical direction of the surface, the absolute value of the output from the

In the same figure, the code | symbol B shows a light beam irradiation part.
When the size of the light beam irradiating part B is larger than the width of the reflecting
However, if the light beam irradiation part B is too large, the difference between the maximum value and the minimum value of the output becomes small, so that the detection accuracy is lowered. Therefore, the size of the light beam irradiating portion B is preferably configured to be smaller than the combined size of the reflecting portion and the non-reflecting portion of the optical mark, that is, the repetition interval of the optical mark.
[0048]
The binarization threshold can also be applied to the transmission type photo interrupter shown in FIGS. As described above, except for the level between the maximum value and the minimum value of the output, if the pulse is made with a constant threshold value, a pulse whose duty ratio fluctuates is obtained, and the position error is detected by the fluctuation amount. If the intermediate level is obtained in advance, a pulse with a constant duty ratio can be obtained by binarization, correct position information can be obtained, and a correct speed detection result can be obtained.

FIG. 5 is a view for explaining still another embodiment of the present invention.
In the figure, symbol LB indicates a strip-shaped light beam.
Since the light flux from the light projecting portion is given at a constant angle to the normal to the surface in the belt width direction, the light beam irradiation portion moves in the belt width direction when the belt moves vertically. At this time, as described above, the length of the optical mark is long so that the light beam irradiating part does not come off from the optical mark. It will change and it will become easy to produce the fluctuation of an output.

In the figure, reference numeral MLB indicates a plurality of strip-shaped light beams parallel to each other.
Each effect of the belt-like light beam is as described in FIG. In the present embodiment, a mask for forming a plurality of strip-shaped light beams may be provided on the front surface of the

In the above description, the encoder scale formed on the endless belt has been centered. However, even when a rotary encoder is used for either the shaft of the photosensitive drum or the support shaft of the endless belt, this is basically the case. The invention can be applied. In this case, the optical mark is formed by alternately arranging a reflective portion, a non-reflective portion, or a transmissive portion and a non-transmissive portion in the vicinity of the peripheral edge of the disk shape.
Since the detection device shown in the embodiment of the present invention can be used as an endless belt device, it is used as a photosensitive belt in an image forming apparatus, as a direct transfer type transfer paper conveyance belt, or as an intermediate of an indirect transfer type. It can be used as a transfer belt. Any of them can be applied to an image forming apparatus having a single photosensitive member or an image forming apparatus using a plurality of photosensitive members as required. It is particularly suitable for use in a color image forming apparatus.
[0058]
【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, an optical mark can be detected with high accuracy using a detection device having a light projecting unit and a light receiving unit, and belt running stability in the image forming apparatus can be achieved.
