Abstract
Description
【0001】

The present invention relates to cut sheets and boxes made therefrom, in particular for use as packaging for cigarettes.
[0002]
Cigarettes are usually marketed in either soft-pack or hard-pack packages, for example in hinged or hinged lid boxes, but also in so-called rigid soft packages without hinged lids. It is also known in hardpack packaging to round the corners and edges to protect the consumer's pocket. For example, DE-A 2 940 797 describes for this purpose a cigarette box, in particular of the hinge-lid type, with all corners and edges rounded. However, the German specification does not disclose how the box can be manufactured.
[0003]
The hinge-lid type cigarette box described in EP-A-0 765 595 has its four horizontal main edges beveled or rounded. Corresponding cut sheets for producing these ridges are also shown. This European publication further contains the reference to U.S. Pat. No. 2,523,251 (EP-A-0 764 595, col. 4, lines 51-54), and thus the disclosure of EP-A-0 764 595. It also includes the combination of rounded or beveled horizontal ridges with the beveled longitudinal ridges of US Pat. No. 2,523,251. However, indications of how this particular embodiment can be manufactured are still missing.
[0004]
The manufacture of a box, in particular a hinged-lid cigarette box, with all corners and longitudinal edges and a horizontal main edge rounded or beveled from a single cut sheet is problematic in practice.
[0005]
It is an object of the present invention to provide a cut sheet which can be easily manufactured for the manufacture of boxes, in particular cigarette boxes with hinged lids, in which all longitudinal ridges and horizontal main ridges and corners are rounded or angled as far as possible. To provide.
[0006]
A solution to this object is a cut sheet of foldable material for forming a rectangular box having at least five closed surfaces, comprising two diametrically opposed main surface sections in the rectangular box to be formed. Are connected in a straight line to the cut sheet, and the opposite sides of the two main surface sections and the bottom section connecting them in the rectangular box to be formed. Are formed by side sections projecting laterally from both main face sections, and the ridges of both main face sections facing diametrically opposite in the rectangular box to be formed are formed by folding regions,
The two fold areas abut at the corners (preferably the lower corners) of both diametrically opposed main face sections of the rectangular box to be formed;
-One of the two (preferably substantially perpendicular) abutting fold regions is defined by an arc segment of about 45-90, preferably 65-80, the other by an S-curve, Curve fits into the arc segment towards the corner of the main face section,
-In a cut sheet characterized in that the folding area is preferably formed by two or more adjacent substantially parallel fold lines, respectively.
[0007]
The cut sheet as defined above has a first main face section preferably with left and right first side sections,
-A top section of the first main section is followed by a bottom section, and a top section of the bottom section is followed by a second main section with left and right second side sections;
The cut sheet has a horizontal fold area and a vertical fold area, i.e. a first, a second horizontal fold area between the first main section and the bottom section and between the bottom section and the second main section; Between the left first side section and the first main section, between the first main section and the right first side section, between the left second side section and the second main section, and the second main section. And a first to fourth vertical folding area between the second side section and the right side section,
-The first horizontal fold area abuts the first and second vertical fold areas at the upper corner of the first main surface section;
The second horizontal fold area abuts the third and fourth vertical fold areas at the lower corner of the second main surface section;
[0008]
The cut sheet can be easily manufactured by appropriately changing an existing cut sheet manufacturing machine. By normally folding and pasting, a hard pack package consisting of only one box into which a group of cigarettes wrapped in an inner liner can be inserted is obtained from this cut sheet. Typically, the box dimensions are designed so that the group of cigarettes fits tightly within the box, and the upper open end of the box slightly overhangs to allow the consumer to open the box and remove the cigarette.
[0009]
However, the box will generally have a lid in addition to the box, resulting in a normal hinged lid box.
[0010]
In order to obtain this conventional hinge lid box, the cut sheet has an additional section, namely a second main section, followed by a third main section with left and right third side sections, and a third main section. A top section follows the top ridge of the face section, and a fourth main face section with left and right fourth side sections follows the top ridge of the top section,
The cut sheet has another horizontal fold area and a vertical fold area, i.e. third and fourth horizontal fold areas between the third main face section and the upper face section and between the upper face section and the fourth main face section; And between the left third side section and the third main side section, between the third main side section and the right third side section, between the left fourth side section and the fourth main side section, and between the fourth main side section and the fourth main side section. 5th to 8th vertical folding regions between the surface section and the right fourth side section,
The third horizontal fold area abuts the fifth and sixth vertical fold areas at the upper corner of the third main surface section,
The fourth horizontal fold area abuts the seventh and eighth vertical fold areas at the lower corner of the fourth main surface section;
[0011]
Advantageously, the cut sheet additionally has left and right second side section end tabs at the lower ridge of the left and right second side sections in addition to the above section, and the upper ridge of the left and right third side section Has left and right third side section end tabs. These side compartment end tabs serve to reinforce the bottom and lid of the finished box.

Preferably there is a reinforcing section on the upper ridge of the fourth main section, which is bonded to the inner surface of the fourth main section during the manufacture of the box and also serves for reinforcement.
[0013]
Conventional materials for the hinge lid box, such as paper or cardboard, optionally coated, and plastics, plastic films or plastic laminates, preferably crossboard or crossboard, are available as foldable materials.
[0014]
The fold line can be either a groove or preferably a score line and preferably extends over the entire length and width of the box.
[0015]
The relevant part of the cut sheet is pressed by the grooving body to produce the groove. On the opposite side there is a grooved passage through which the material of the cut sheet can be pushed. If the grooves run parallel, a corrugated cross section results according to the method described above. This method is described, for example, in U.S. Pat. No. 2,523,251, and the results are shown in FIG. Next, the cut sheet thus treated is folded, so that a round (if there are several grooves) or a beveled (if there are two grooves) edges of the packaging are automatically formed along the grooves. You.
[0016]
However, a disadvantage here is that the application for producing the packaging is problematic due to the inherent rigidity and elastic restoring force of the packaging material. Attachment is usually performed in an overlapping area of the cut sheet which forms the box side wall. Due to the rounded or beveled edges, these overlapping areas are considerably reduced compared to a conventional, for example hinged lid box, so that only a limited amount of adhesive can be applied. Therefore, the result is a slower mechanical production, since a relatively small amount of adhesive has to wait a relatively long time until it has dried sufficiently. Otherwise the box would reopen due to the elastic restoring force of the material.
[0017]
This is particularly noticeable, for example, when cardboard or cardboard is used in the manufacture of hinged lid boxes. When manufacturing on paper or cardboard, the material forming the product is placed on a rapidly moving belt. Therefore, the long fibers are preferentially aligned in the longitudinal direction in the material. Depending on whether the cut sheet is subsequently cut longitudinally or transversely from the finished material web, the long fibers are placed in the cut sheet across the longitudinal axis of the cut sheet (transverse line) or the cut sheet (longitudinal). Eye) is arranged along the vertical axis. Aligning the fibers across the length of the cut-away sheet improves bendability about the horizontal axis, but degrades bendability about the vertical axis. Therefore, the stability for transverse application is stronger than in the case of longitudinal cut sheets where the situation is exactly reversed due to the fact that the position of the long fibers is switched in the material. However, on the other hand, a side cut sheet is preferentially used for a box with a hinge lid. This is because of the stability of the lid (no slippage of the closure and no slight tearing of the lid), the stiffness of the package due to the increased stability in the transverse direction, the flatness of the package, ie the minimal bending of the package Is significantly promoted as compared with the case of using a longitudinal grain material.
[0018]
By utilizing score lines, unlike grooves, the elastic restoring force is surprisingly significantly reduced, the grain material can be used quickly and without problems in the production of boxes, and because of the relatively few surfaces available, There is no problem when attaching the box.
[0019]
To produce score lines, the thickness of the material forming the package is reduced by a score knife. For this reason, the cut sheet is placed on a smooth table and processed with a chopping knife, and in addition to compression, material removal may occur. Depending on the shape of the knife, for example, a v-shaped or u-shaped cross section results. The platform has a smooth surface, rather than having a passage at the opposite side of the knives knife as in the groove making method, so that the thickness is reduced and deformation without thickness reduction as in the case of grooves is obtained. It does not happen.
[0020]
The thickness reduction depends on the material used and the folding area. The score line in the vertical fold area is formed by a thickness reduction of 10-80%, preferably 30-70%, particularly preferably 40-60%, for example about 50% of the paper or cardboard, and the score line in the horizontal fold area is It is formed by a thickness reduction of 10 to 50%, preferably 20 to 40%, for example about 30% of the paper or cardboard.
[0021]
The score lines are preferred for the cut sheet according to the invention also for the second reason. That is, the score lines have the advantage that the outer surface looks completely intact and raw when present on the inner surface of the finished box, and therefore provides an improved visual appearance to the consumer. It is not possible when using grooves.
[0022]
The degree and type of roundness can be determined by the number of score lines and their mutual distance. Six to eight, especially seven, score lines per folding area are preferred, which are at a mutual distance of about 1 mm. When folded, a box with rounded edges is obtained. In this case, the radius of the roundness approximately corresponds to the radius of a commercially available cigarette. Two score lines per folding area are likewise preferred, these being at a distance of 6 to 8 mm, in particular of about 7 mm. In this case, folding yields a box with beveled edges.
[0023]
Furthermore, due to the unified visual appearance of the box, it is preferred that all folding areas have the same number of folding lines.
[0024]
Regarding the abutment between the vertical fold area and the horizontal fold area, it is preferable that the end of the arc segment and the end of the S-shaped curve diverge at a right angle and are parallel to the ridge of the main surface section. Since a trouble-free transition between the various folding areas is thus possible.
[0025]
Preferably, the arc segment and the S-curve are not joined to each other, or are joined to each other only at the corner points of the main surface section. It is certainly possible that there is at least a partial junction between the arc segment and the S-curve, but in that case, when folding up to form a box, the transition area between both different folding areas Causes crushing and irregularities.
[0026]
Further, it is preferred that at least one fold region is defined at either end by either an arc segment or an S-curve. Similarly, if all fold regions abut the other fold regions substantially perpendicularly at both ends, both ends of these fold regions are bounded by either arc segments or S-curves. Is preferred. Finally, it is also preferred that all the folding regions parallel to each other are respectively terminated by either arc segments or S-curves. In all three cases this results in an improved visual impression.
[0027]
The production of the cut sheet is performed by a known method. That is, the cut sheet is printed out of a roll-supported web of cut sheet material, preferably as a cross cut sheet. Usually after this, the cut sheet is processed as described above by means of a cutting knife or fluting, and at the same time is punched and / or cut and possibly embossed. By folding normally and affixing to the sides, in this case a finished, for example cigarette box, which normally contains a group of cigarettes wrapped in an inner liner, is mechanically obtained. The hinged lid box according to the invention is also usually fitted with a normal collar which, when the box is opened, slightly protrudes from the inner surface of the front wall of the box and has a recess which makes it possible to grip the cigarettes inside the box.

The hinge lid box obtained by folding as described above is rounded and provided with a longitudinal ridge. The four horizontal main ridges are also rounded. The abutment of the arc segment and the S-curve at the corners of the folded area facilitates a transition between the folded areas, thus rounding all eight corners of the box.
