Description
【0001】
近年、有機EL表示パネルや液晶表示パネルは、携帯電話、PDA(Personal Digital assistants;携帯情報端末)等の携帯機器に広く利用されている。

【0064】
i=0、j=1の場合、ステップS113では、i%4=0、j%4=1となるので、Pat_aの(i=0,j=1)のデータ「1」をtmp_patとして設定する。次のステップS114では、「1」に設定したtmp_patをdata[j×3=3][i=0]に掛けた値を、(i=0,j×3=3)の赤用画素10Rの表示データtmp_redとして設定する。このとき、data[j×3=3][i=0]に「1」を掛けてもその表示データ(8ビットデータ)の値は変わらない。つまり、アドレス(i=0,j=3)の表示データを変更せずに、そのまま生かして(i=0,j=3)の表示データtmp_redとして設定する。
【0065】
【0067】
i=0、j=2の場合、ステップS113では、i%4=0、j%4=2となるので、Pat_a(i=0,j=2)のデータ「1」をtmp_patとして設定する。次のステップS114では、「1」に設定したtmp_patをデータdata[j×3=6][i=0]に掛けた値を、(i=0,j=j×3=6)の赤用画素10Rの表示データtmp_redとして設定する。次のステップS115では、ステップS114で設定したtmp_redを、フレームメモリ7のアドレス(i=0,j=6)の領域に書き込む。次のステップS116では、「1」に設定したtmp_patをdata[j×3+1=7][i=0]に掛けた値を、(i=0,j=7)の緑用画素10Gの表示データtmp_greenとして設定する。次のステップS117では、ステップS116で設定したアドレス(i=0,j=7)のtmp_greenを、フレームメモリ7のアドレス(i=0,j=7)の領域に書き込む。次のステップS118では、ステップS113で「1」に設定したtmp_patをdata[j×3+2=8][i=0]に掛けた値を、(i=0,j=8)の青用画素10Bの表示データtmp_blueとして設定する。次のステップS119では、ステップS118で設定したアドレス(i=0,j=8)の表示データtmp_blueを、フレームメモリ7のアドレス(i=0,j=8)の領域に書き込む。
【0068】
i=0、j=3の場合、ステップS113では、i%4=0、j%4=3(となるので、Pat_a(i=0,j=3)のデータ「1」をtmp_patとして設定する。次のステップS114では、「1」に設定したtmp_patをdata[j×3=9][i=0]に掛けた値を、(i=0,j=9)の赤用画素10Rの表示データtmp_redとして設定する。次のステップS115では、ステップS114で設定したtmp_redを、フレームメモリ7のアドレス(i=0,j=9)の領域に書き込む。次のステップS116では、「1」に設定したtmp_patをdata[j×3+1=10][i=0]に掛けた値を、(i=0,j=10)の緑用画素10Gの表示データtmp_greenとして設定する。次のステップS117では、ステップS116で設定したアドレス(i=0,j=10)の緑用画素10Gの表示データtmp_greenを、フレームメモリ7のアドレス(i=0,j=10)の領域に書き込む。次のステップS118では、ステップS113で「1」に設定したtmp_patをdata[j×3+2=11][i=0]に掛けた値を、(i=0,j=11)の青用画素10Bの表示データtmp_blueとして設定する。次のステップS119では、ステップS118で設定したアドレス(i=0,j=11)のtmp_blueを、フレームメモリ7のアドレス(i=0,j=11)の領域に書き込む。
【0069】

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in the related art of
[0007]
Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of such a conventional problem, and an object of the present invention is to provide a driving method of an electro-optical device capable of realizing a thinned-out display with low power consumption and reduced image quality degradation. An object is to provide an electro-optical device and an electronic apparatus.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
A driving method of an electro-optical device according to the present invention includes a pixel disposed at a position corresponding to an intersection between a scanning line and a data line, and driving the electro-optical element of each pixel according to display data. In a driving method, for each region in which a pixel of N rows and M columns of a screen composed of a plurality of the pixels is defined as one unit, a location corresponding to a specific pixel in the region has a display or a display where power consumption is zero. The gist is that the display data is processed by superimposing a pattern of N rows and M columns in which power consumption is lower than the display data, and the pattern is superimposed and displayed a plurality of times on an unprocessed screen area. I do.
[0009]
According to this, for each region where the screen has pixels of N rows and M columns as one unit, a position corresponding to a specific pixel in the region is displayed with zero power consumption or displayed with power consumption lower than the display data. The display data is processed by overlapping the patterns of N rows and M columns. Then, the pattern is superimposed and displayed a plurality of times on an unprocessed screen area to realize thinned-out display. For example, in the case of an electro-optical device such as an organic EL display device using a light-emitting element such as an organic EL element as the electro-optical element, only a pixel where a black portion of a pattern is superimposed among a plurality of pixels has a black display. (That is, the light is turned off) or the display has a lower light emission luminance than the display data. Further, in the case of an electro-optical device such as a liquid crystal display device in which an electro-optical material such as liquid crystal is used as an electro-optical element and a display mode is a normally black mode, for example, only pixels where black portions of a pattern are superimposed are displayed in black. Or a display darker than the display data. Further, in the case of an electro-optical device such as a liquid crystal display device in which the display mode is a normally white mode, only a pixel in which a black portion of a pattern is superimposed among a plurality of pixels is a white display or a display brighter than display data. become.
[0010]
In this manner, the thinned-out display in which only a part of the plurality of pixels is displayed with zero power consumption or displayed with power consumption lower than the display data is realized. Power consumption is reduced, and the occurrence of flicker, stripes, unevenness, and the like is suppressed. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the power consumption and to realize the thinned-out display in which the deterioration of the image quality is suppressed.
[0011]
A driving method of an electro-optical device according to the present invention includes pixels arranged at positions corresponding to intersections of a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of data lines, and drives the electro-optical element of each of the pixels according to display data. A method for driving an electro-optical device, comprising: a screen composed of a plurality of pixels, each of which is composed of N rows and M columns of pixels as one unit, data “1”, data “0” or “X” ( 1 <X <0), so that the display data of each corresponding pixel includes either the data “1” or the data “0” or “X” so that the pattern data of N rows and M columns including 1 <X <0) are superimposed. The display data of each pixel to which the data "1" is multiplied is set as it is, and the display data of each pixel to which the data "0" or "X" is multiplied is set to zero or a smaller value. Processing of display data to be set to A first step, and a second step of driving the electro-optical element of each pixel by a data signal of each pixel obtained by DA conversion of the display data of each pixel processed in the first step; The gist is to provide
[0012]
According to this, data “1” and data “0” or data “0” or “X” (1 <X <0) are obtained by processing the display data for each area in which the screen is composed of pixels in N rows and M columns. The display data of each corresponding pixel is multiplied by either data “1” and data “0” or “X” such that pattern data of N rows and M columns including The display data of each pixel to which data "1" is multiplied is set as it is, and the display data of each pixel to which data "0" or "X" is multiplied is set to zero or a smaller value. Then, the electro-optical element of each pixel is driven by the data signal of each pixel obtained by DA processing of the processed data of each pixel. Thereby, the display at the pixel where the display data is set to zero or a smaller value among the plurality of pixels becomes the display with zero power consumption or the display with the power consumption lower than the display data, and the thinned display is performed. Is achieved. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the power consumption and to realize the thinned-out display in which the deterioration of the image quality is suppressed.
[0013]
In the driving method of the electro-optical device, in the first stage, one frame of processing for creating one frame of processed display data by processing display data of the pixels in n rows and m columns is performed. Performed once for each vertical scanning start signal, and in the processing for one frame, among the display data for each pixel in the n rows and m columns, processed display data for m pixels in each row is created in column address order. The processing for one row is performed n times in the order of row addresses from the first row to the n-th row in synchronization with the horizontal synchronization signal.
[0014]
According to this, it is possible to realize the thinned-out display in synchronization with the vertical scanning start signal and the horizontal synchronization signal for each frame.
In this method of driving an electro-optical device, in the first stage, each time display data of the pixels in n rows and m columns is processed in the order of address from the pixel of the first address to generate processed display data of one pixel Then, the created processed display data of each pixel is sequentially written into the frame memory from the head address, and in the second stage, the processed display data is synchronized with the vertical scanning start signal and the horizontal synchronization signal from the frame memory. Then, the electro-optical element of each pixel is driven by the data signal of each pixel obtained by DA-converting the read processed display data from the head address.
[0015]
According to this, the processed display data for one frame is sequentially written into the frame memory from the head address, and the processed display data is sequentially read from the frame memory from the head address in synchronization with the vertical scanning start signal and the horizontal synchronization signal. Thus, thinned-out display can be realized for each frame in synchronization with the vertical scanning start signal and the horizontal synchronization signal.
[0016]
In this method of driving the electro-optical device, each of the pixels is constituted by one pixel including three pixels of a red pixel, a green pixel, and a blue pixel, and in the first step, Each display data of the red pixel, the green pixel and the blue pixel is expressed by using the same data among the data “1” of the pattern data and the data “0” or “X” (1 <X <0). Processing.
[0017]
According to this, processing of each display data of the red pixel, the green pixel, and the blue pixel which constitute one pixel only needs to be performed once, and the processing speed is increased.
In this method of driving the electro-optical device, each of the pixels is constituted by one pixel including three pixels of a red pixel, a green pixel, and a blue pixel, and in the first step, Each display data of the red pixel, the green pixel and the blue pixel is determined by using different data among the data “1” of the pattern data and the data “0” or “X” (1 <X <0). Processing.
[0018]
According to this, it is possible to change the display color and brightness of each pixel by individually changing each display data of the red pixel, the green pixel, and the blue pixel that constitute one pixel. .

You. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the power consumption and to realize the thinned-out display in which the deterioration of the image quality is suppressed.
[0021]

The process shown in FIG. 4 is repeatedly executed at predetermined time intervals, for example, at 1/60 second, assuming that the frame frequency is 60 Hz.
In step S110, initialization is performed for each vertical scanning start signal (for each frame). That is, the row address i of the
[0050]
In step S111, it is determined whether or not i is less than 240. Now, if it is immediately after the initial setting in step S110, since i = 0, the determination result in step S111 is YES and the process proceeds to step S112.
[0051]
In step S112, it is determined whether or not j is less than 320. Now, if it is immediately after the initial setting in step S110, since j = 0, the determination result in step S112 is YES, and the process proceeds to step S113.
[0052]
In step S113, which address data (1 or 0) of the pattern data 31 (Pat_a) shown in FIG. 1 is used is set. Now, i = 0 and j = 0, and

In the next step S114, a value “0” obtained by multiplying the display data data [j × 3] [i] of the address (i, j × 3) by the tmp_pat set to “0” in the step S113 is assigned to the corresponding address ( (i, j × 3) is set as display data tmp_red of the

In this step S114, since i = 0, j = 0 and j × 3 = 0, a value obtained by multiplying tmp_pat set to “0” by data [j × 3 = 0] [i = 0] "0" is set as tmp_red, which is display data of the

In step S120, the column address j is set to j + 1. That is, j is incremented by one. At this time, since j = 0, j is set to 1. Thereafter, the process proceeds to step S112.
[0063]

In step S121, i is set to i + 1. At this time, since i = 0, i is set to 1. Thereafter, the process proceeds to step S111. Until i reaches 240, the result of the determination in step S111 is YES, and the process proceeds to step S112. Every time steps S112 to S120 are executed 320 times, i is increased by 1 in step S121. Therefore, steps S112 to S120 are repeated 320 * 239 times, that is, 76480 times in total. Thereby, a process of processing display data corresponding to all pixels in the second and subsequent rows, and all pixels from addresses (i = 1, j = 0) to (i = 239, j = 319 × 3 + 2); The process of writing the processed display data to the

In this way, when the above steps S112 to S121 are repeated 240 times and i becomes 240, the determination result of step S111 becomes NO, and the "processing of one frame of display data" shown in FIG. 4 ends. [0078]
According to the first embodiment configured as described above, the following operation and effect can be obtained.
(A) By processing the display data for one frame, the pattern data 31 of 4 rows and 4 columns is divided into a plurality of
[0079]
As described above, the display data of one frame is processed by software for each address of the corresponding pixel using "31" shown in FIG. 1, and the display data for each processed address is written to each
[0080]
(B) One frame of processing is performed once for each vertical scanning start signal to generate processed display data for one frame by processing display data for all pixels in n rows and m columns (step S111). To S121). In the processing for one frame, among the display data for each pixel in n rows and m columns, processing for one row in which processed display data for m pixels in each row are created in column address order (steps S112 to S120). Is performed n times in the order of row addresses from the first row to the n-th row in synchronization with the horizontal synchronization signal (steps S111 to S121). Thereby, thinned-out display can be realized for each frame in synchronization with the vertical scanning start signal and the horizontal synchronization signal.
[0081]
(C) The processed display data for one frame is sequentially written into the
[0082]
(D) Each display data of the red pixel, the green pixel, and the blue pixel of each
[0083]
(E) Since the display data of each pixel is processed by software, the circuit configuration is simplified, the number of pixels can be easily changed, and the design can be easily changed.
[0084]
(F) As the pattern data 31, as shown in FIG. 1, a pattern in which the arrangement of data "1" and data "0" are different in two adjacent rows is used. Then, when processing the display data of one frame shown in FIG. 5 in order from the top row (i = 0 row), the pattern of the same row of the pattern data 31 is repeatedly used for the display data of the same row, Patterns from the first line to the fourth line of the pattern data 31 are used in order. As a result, the display data of one frame is processed so that the positions of the pixels to be thinned out (black pixels in FIG. 1) differ between two adjacent rows, so that the occurrence of flicker, streak, unevenness, etc. is further suppressed. Thus, it is possible to realize a thinned-out display in which the deterioration of the image quality is further suppressed.
[0085]
(G) Since display data of one frame is processed for each pixel using the pattern data 31 and the thinned-out display is realized using the processed display data, the pattern data 31 is optimized according to the display content. By arranging the data in a simple pattern, it is possible to realize an optimal thinned-out display while suppressing image deterioration.
