Abstract
Description
【0001】

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the polarization rotator has a high component cost. In addition, in the conventional method, two wavelength rotators must be provided with different wavelength selectivity, so that there is a problem that the component cost is further increased.
[0011]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a liquid crystal projector that is low in cost and can suppress a decrease in color reproducibility.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, a liquid crystal projector according to the present invention includes a light source that emits illumination light including three color lights of B, G, and R, and any one of the B, G, and R color lights from the illumination light. A first color separation unit that separates one color, a second color separation unit that separates the remaining two color lights emitted from the first color separation unit, and the separated color lights of the respective colors correspond to the respective colors. And a dichroic filter that cuts yellow light from the illumination light. The dichroic filter includes: a dichroic filter that cuts yellow light from the illumination light; The yellow light is included in the optical path leading to the synthesizing means via the first color separating means and the second color separating means, and at least one of the B, G, and R color lights. Featured in the optical path To.
[0013]
Since the harmful light (yellow light) is preferably removed before entering the optical system in order to minimize the adverse effect of the harmful light (yellow light), the dichroic filter is preferably disposed immediately after the light source.
[0014]
For example, the first color separation unit is a dichroic mirror that transmits B light and reflects R light and G light, and the second color separation unit transmits G light and R light, A polarization rotator for rotating the polarization of one of the lights, and a polarization beam splitter for reflecting one and transmitting the other in accordance with the polarization states of the G light and the R light emitted from the polarization rotator; The filter is arranged between the light source and the dichroic mirror.

[0024]
Further, in the conventional method using a polarization rotating element and a polarizing plate as the Y light removing means, the arrangement position of the Y light removing means must be determined in consideration of the polarization state of yellow light, which is harmful light. If a dichroic filter is used as the Y light removing means as in the present invention, there is no such restriction, and the degree of freedom of the arrangement position of the Y light removing means is widened as compared with the related art.
[0025]
For this reason, it is also possible to arrange the Y light removing unit at an optimum position that minimizes a decrease in color reproducibility due to harmful light (yellow light). That is, in order to minimize the decrease in color reproducibility due to harmful light (yellow light), the harmful light is incident on a position as close to the light source as possible, specifically, the first color separation means (dichroic mirror). It is preferable to remove it before performing. In consideration of this, in the present embodiment, the dichroic filter is disposed immediately after the light source (between the light source and the polarization conversion element). By arranging at this position, yellow light is removed before the illumination light enters the first color separation means. If it cannot be arranged immediately after the light source, it may be arranged between the polarization conversion element and the dichroic mirror.
[0026]
However, depending on the product, there may be a case where the light source cannot be arranged more than the light source than the first color separation means due to the restriction of the arrangement space. In such a case, yellow light is included in the optical path from the first color separation means to the synthesis means via the second color separation means, and at least one of the B, G, and R color lights. May be arranged in the optical path. Specifically, between the dichroic mirror (first color separation means) and the second
[0027]
In order to separate light from illumination light including B light, G light, and R light, B light is separated first, and then G light and R light are separated. The separation may not be performed, and the G light or the R light may be separated first.
[0028]
Further, although the description has been given of the example using the liquid crystal projector using the reflection type liquid crystal element, the present invention may be applied to a liquid crystal projector using the transmission type liquid crystal element.
[0029]
