Abstract
Description
【0001】

【0034】
図2に示すように、この電池パック10は、電池ECU(Electronic Control Unit)100により制御される。

The present invention relates to a secondary battery used for an electric vehicle (EV), a hybrid vehicle (HV), and the like, and particularly to a technique for preventing a decrease in battery performance due to temperature.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles that obtain driving force of the vehicle by an electric motor are equipped with a secondary battery. The electric vehicle drives the electric motor using the electric power stored in the secondary battery to drive the vehicle. The hybrid vehicle drives the electric motor using the electric power stored in the secondary battery to drive the vehicle, or assists the engine with the electric motor to drive the vehicle. A fuel cell vehicle drives a vehicle by driving an electric motor using electric power from a fuel cell or drives an electric motor using electric power stored in a secondary battery in addition to electric power from this fuel cell to drive a vehicle. Or
[0003]
Since these secondary batteries require high voltage and high output, a battery pack is formed by connecting about 30 battery modules in which about 1.2 battery cells of about 1.2 V are connected in series, and about 30 battery modules are connected in series. I have. In a battery pack having such a configuration, heat is generated by a chemical reaction that occurs during charging and discharging. Such heat generation is cooled by air or the like. However, depending on the size of the battery pack or the like, a temperature difference occurs between the battery cells without uniform cooling.
[0004]
On the other hand, when a temperature difference occurs between the battery cells in the battery pack, the use of the battery defined by the use area of the battery cells (for example, SOC (States of Charge)) becomes possible as compared with the case where the temperature is uniform. Area) may be narrowed. As described above, the temperature of the battery pack is closely related to the battery performance.
[0005]
Japanese Patent Laying-Open No. 2002-260745 (Patent Document 1) discloses a battery capable of quickly and uniformly heating the inside of a power generation element by heating a terminal block and a connection can. This battery has a heating element that is attached to a terminal or a connecting rod that protrudes outside the battery case and is heated by electric power when power is supplied from the battery, and a temperature sensor that measures the temperature of the battery or the environmental temperature of the battery. And a heating control device that controls heat generation of the heating element based on the temperature measured by the temperature sensor.
[0006]
According to this battery, the inside of the power generation element can be quickly and uniformly heated by the heat generated by the heating element attached to the terminal or the connection can. Therefore, even when the temperature is low, the output characteristics of the battery can be quickly improved. become able to. Further, since only a part of the inside of the power generating element is heated, there is no danger that the deterioration of a part of the electrode is accelerated and the life of the battery is shortened.
[0007]
Japanese Patent Laying-Open No. 2002-171885 (Patent Document 2) discloses a battery charging device capable of preventing a reduction in service life by suppressing a variation in temperature occurring in a battery when performing quick charging. The battery charging device includes a battery, a charging circuit that charges the battery, a charging control circuit that controls a charging operation of the battery by the charging circuit, and a temperature detection unit that detects temperatures at a plurality of locations of the battery. A cooling unit that cools the battery with a refrigerant, wherein the charge control circuit is configured to control the temperature when a temperature difference between a plurality of locations of the battery detected by the temperature detection unit becomes larger than a first predetermined value. A temperature control circuit for controlling the difference to be within a second predetermined value, wherein the temperature control circuit reverses a traveling direction of the refrigerant in the battery by the cooling means.
[0008]
According to this battery charging device, the temperature control circuit is configured such that when the temperature difference between the plurality of locations of the battery detected by the temperature detection unit becomes larger than the first predetermined value, the temperature difference becomes within the second predetermined value. , The variation in the temperature that occurs in the battery during rapid charging is suppressed, and the variation in the capacity is suppressed. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the life of the battery from being shortened. Further, when the temperature difference between the plurality of locations of the battery detected by the temperature detection unit becomes larger than a first predetermined value, the temperature control circuit reverses the direction of travel of the refrigerant by the cooling unit in the battery, so that the refrigerant Temperature variations. As a result, the temperature variation that occurs in the battery during rapid charging is suppressed, and the capacity variation is suppressed. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the life of the battery from being shortened without requiring complicated control or the like.
[0009]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. H7-15884 (Patent Literature 3) discloses a charge that can suppress an increase in battery internal pressure and battery temperature and perform optimal charge in a secondary battery such as a nickel-cadmium battery and a nickel-hydrogen battery. An apparatus is disclosed. This charging device is a charging device that charges a secondary battery with a current having a pulse waveform, and a temperature measuring unit that measures the temperature of the secondary battery, and a battery temperature measured by the temperature measuring unit is 10 ° C. or less. , The duty ratio Q is set to 0.50 ≦ Q <0.65, when the battery temperature is 10 to 40 ° C., 0.65 ≦ Q <0.85, and when the battery temperature is 40 ° C. or more, 0.85 <Q. ≦ 0.95 and when the change in the battery temperature measured by the temperature measuring section is 10 to 20 ° C., the charging current is increased by 100% (1.0 to 5.0 CmA). ), A control unit that changes the battery temperature to 50 to 90% when the change in battery temperature is 20 to 40 ° C. and 50% or less when the change in battery temperature is 40 ° C. or more.
[0010]
According to this charging device, it is possible to always perform optimal charging regardless of changes in the ambient temperature and the state of the battery, and it is possible to provide a charging device that suppresses increases in battery internal pressure and battery temperature. That is, since the charging is performed by changing the duty ratio and the charging current according to the temperature or the temperature change of the secondary battery, the secondary battery can be charged without increasing the internal pressure and the battery temperature of the secondary battery.

The battery cell may be the smallest unit cell constituting the battery pack or a battery module in which about six unit cells are connected in series. That is, the battery cell in the first aspect of the invention is a concept including both a single cell as a minimum unit and a battery module in which a plurality of the single cells are connected.
[0019]
According to the first invention, for example, a system main relay is provided as a heat generating means at both ends of a plurality of battery cells connected in series. The system main relay is a relay that connects and disconnects power from the battery pack to the high-voltage circuit according to a command from a computer. If a system main relay that connects and disconnects by energizing a solenoid coil is used, the control unit may increase the temperature of the battery cell based on the temperature of the battery cells at both ends detected by the detection unit. The duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid coil of the system main relay on the side is increased to increase the heat generation of the coil and increase the temperature of the battery cell. The control means avoids raising the temperature of the battery cell by lowering the duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid coil of the system main relay on the battery cell side that does not want to raise the temperature to lower the heat generation of the coil. As a result, there is provided a battery pack temperature difference reducing device that reduces the temperature difference between cells by making the temperature of the battery cells uniform without using a special temperature adjusting device, thereby preventing a reduction in the use area of the battery. be able to.
[0020]
In the temperature difference reduction device according to the second invention, in addition to the configuration of the first invention, the detection means includes means for measuring the temperatures of two or more battery cells.
[0021]
According to the second aspect, when the temperatures of at least two battery cells at both ends of the plurality of battery cells connected in series are measured, the temperature difference between the two battery cells is reduced, and the temperature of the two battery cells is reduced. It is possible to prevent the use area of the battery from being reduced by making the battery uniform.
[0022]
In the temperature difference reduction device according to a third aspect, in addition to the configuration of the first or second aspect, the heat generating means is a solenoid type system main relay. The control means includes means for controlling the system main relay by changing the duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid.
[0023]
According to the third aspect, by changing the duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid coil of the system main relay, the system main relay can function normally and the amount of heat generated by the solenoid coil can be controlled.
[0024]
In the temperature difference reduction device according to the fourth invention, in addition to the configuration of any one of the first to third inventions, the target battery is a nickel-metal hydride battery.
[0025]
According to the fourth aspect, in a nickel-metal hydride battery that generates a large amount of heat during charging, the temperature difference between the battery cells tends to be larger. In such a nickel-metal hydride battery, without using a special temperature control device, the temperature of the nickel-metal hydride battery cells is made uniform to reduce the temperature difference between the cells, thereby preventing a reduction in the use area of the nickel-metal hydride battery. A battery pack temperature difference reduction device can be provided.
[0026]
A battery pack according to a fifth aspect is a battery pack including the temperature difference reducing device according to any one of the first to third aspects.
[0027]
According to the fifth aspect of the present invention, there is provided a battery pack in which the temperature of the battery cells is made uniform, the temperature difference between the cells is reduced, and the use area of the battery is prevented from being reduced without using a special temperature adjusting device. Can be.

For example, the difference between TB (1) and TB (3) is larger than a first predetermined threshold value, and the difference between TB (1) and TB (2) is a second predetermined threshold value. If the difference is larger than the threshold value and the difference between TB (2) and TB (3) is larger than a predetermined third threshold value, it is determined that there is temperature variation (YES in S200). Then, the duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid of the system main relay having the higher battery temperature is reduced (S300). Further, the duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid of the system main relay having the lower battery temperature is increased (S400).
[0045]
When the duty ratio of the applied current of the solenoid of the system main relay is increased, as shown in FIG. 4, the applied current is applied to the solenoid coil of the system main relay, and when the duty ratio of the applied current is reduced, As shown in FIG. 5, a current is applied to the solenoid coil of the system main relay. As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, by changing the duty ratio of the current applied to the system main relay, when the duty ratio is high, the amount of heat generated by the solenoid coil of the system main relay is increased. Is lower, the heat value of the solenoid coil of the system main relay can be reduced.
[0046]
As described above, according to the battery pack and the battery ECU according to the present embodiment, when the temperature of the battery pack varies (the temperature of the battery module differs), the system main relay on the higher temperature side The duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid of the system main relay on the lower temperature side is increased by reducing the duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid. By controlling the duty ratio of the current applied to the solenoid of the system main relay in this manner, the amount of heat generated in the solenoid coil can be controlled. With this control, the amount of heat generated by the solenoid coil of the system main relay having the higher battery temperature is small, and the amount of heat generated by the solenoid of the system main relay having the lower temperature is increased. As a result, it is possible to prevent the use area of the battery from being narrowed.
