Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an electric connector used to connect a flat flexible cable such as an FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) to a wiring board.
[0002]
[Prior art]
A housing having an opening for inserting the flat flexible cable is provided, and a plurality of contacts held in the housing are pressed against the flat flexible cable inserted from the opening to provide an electrical connection to the flat flexible cable. 2. Description of the Related Art An electrical connector in which a connection is achieved is known (for example, see
[0003]
In this type of electrical connector, an insertion space for inserting a flat flexible cable into a pressure contact position of a plurality of contacts is formed by rotating and opening a cover rotatably attached to a housing. However, there is a type in which a flat flexible cable can be inserted into the insertion space without insertion force (for example, see Patent Document 3). Such an electrical connector is of the so-called ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) type, and when the cover is closed after the insertion of the flat flexible cable, a plurality of contacts are pressed against the flat flexible cable to achieve electrical connection. Is done.
[0004]
Further, this type of electrical connector includes a receiving portion for receiving a distal end portion of a flat flexible cable inserted from an opening from below (on the side of the wiring board), for example. The flat flexible cable can be fixed to the electrical connector by inserting the flat flexible cable from the opening so as to guide the distal end of the flat flexible cable to the press-contact position and then closing the cover. There is something that is.
[0005]
The electric connector includes, for example, a pair of flat flexible cables that are provided on the front side of the flat flexible cable in the insertion direction with respect to the receiving portion and protrude from both side edges of a distal end portion of the flat flexible cable inserted into the receiving portion. A pair of guide surfaces for guiding the guide projections from below is provided. The pair of guide surfaces is disposed one step higher than the receiving portion. When attaching the flat flexible cable to the electrical connector, the front side of the flat flexible cable is pinched closer to the opening than the vicinity thereof, and the front end of the flat flexible cable is directed obliquely upward from the near side toward the opening. Are brought into contact with the pair of guide surfaces. Thereby, the displacement of the pair of guide projections in the width direction (the direction perpendicular to the insertion direction) is restricted, and the positioning of the flat flexible cable in the width direction is achieved.
[0006]
When the tip of the flat flexible cable is further guided toward the receiving portion so that the pair of guiding protrusions is along the pair of guiding surfaces, the pair of guiding protrusions is moved from the guiding surface to the receiving portion. And the tip of the flat flexible cable is received by the receiving portion. Thereafter, if the flat flexible cable is made substantially parallel to the surface of the wiring board, the pair of guide projections is caught on the step surface between the receiving portion and the guide surface, and even if the flat flexible cable is pulled forward. It will not come off. As a result, the positioning of the flat flexible cable in the insertion direction is achieved, and by closing the cover in this state, the flat flexible cable can be fixed to the electrical connector.

[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the electrical connector as described above, the flat flexible cable hardly bends, and its distal end is directed obliquely upward from the near side to the opening. In the state of contact with the surface, the pressing force based on the bending of the flat flexible cable hardly acts on the guide surface from the guide projection. Therefore, when the pair of guide protrusions is thereafter guided along the guide surface, the tip of the flat flexible cable is further guided to the receiving portion side, and when the tip of the flat flexible cable falls into the receiving portion, The amount of return of the flat flexible cable from the bent state is reduced.
[0009]
In this case, since there is almost no click sound (wearing sound) when the tip of the flat flexible cable falls into the receiving portion, it is difficult for an operator to know whether the positioning has been performed reliably and the positioning cannot be performed satisfactorily. There was a case.
With the recent miniaturization of electric devices (such as personal computers), miniaturization and thinning of electrical connectors are desired. However, with small (thin) electrical connectors, it is particularly difficult to position a flat flexible cable. .
[0010]
The present invention has been made in view of such a background, and an object of the present invention is to provide an electrical connector that can perform better positioning when attaching a flat flexible cable.
[0011]
Means for Solving the Problems and Effects of the Invention
An invention according to
[0012]
It should be noted that the alphanumeric characters in parentheses represent corresponding components in the embodiments described below. Hereinafter, the same applies in this section.
According to this configuration, when attaching the flat flexible cable to the electrical connector, the guide projection of the flat flexible cable passes through the space (guide recess) between the first guide surface and the second guide surface. Then, the distal end of the flat flexible cable is directed substantially horizontally (substantially parallel to the surface of the wiring board) from the near side to the receiving side. Usually, since the distance between the surface of the wiring board and the first guide surface is short, the front side of the flat flexible cable is pinched closer to the front side, and a portion on the front side (opposite to the front end) from the pinched portion is cut. Unless the flexible cable is largely bent upward (opposite to the wiring board), it is difficult to make the distal end of the flat flexible cable almost horizontally from the near side to the receiving side. In this case, the guide protrusion at the distal end of the flat flexible cable guided into the guide recess abuts on the first guide surface, and the guide protrusion is bent from the guide protrusion against the first guide surface. Based pressing force acts.
[0013]
Therefore, after that, the tip of the flat flexible cable is guided to the receiving portion side so that the guide protrusion is along the first guide surface, and the tip of the flat flexible cable falls from the first guide surface to the receiving portion. At this time, since the amount of flexure of the flat flexible cable is large, the distal end portion of the flat flexible cable that returns from the flexed state strongly hits the receiving portion. In this case, a click sound is generated when the distal end portion of the flat flexible cable hits the receiving portion, so that the operator can easily understand that the positioning of the flat flexible cable has been achieved. Therefore, positioning can be performed more favorably.
[0014]
With a relatively small (thin) electrical connector, it is particularly difficult to position a flat flexible cable, so that the above-described effects are higher.
In addition, since the members (eave members) constituting the pair of second guide surfaces are arranged in the upper part of the front end of the electrical connector in an easily visible position, the eaves member is used when the tip of the flat flexible cable is directed to the guide recess. If the target is, the flat flexible cable can be guided more easily.
[0015]
In the invention according to
According to this configuration, the pair of second guide surfaces are shifted toward the near side in the cable insertion direction with respect to the pair of guide protrusions of the flat flexible cable positioned by the step surface, and are received by the receiving portion. A pair of guide protrusions of the flat flexible cable become visible from above (the side opposite to the wiring board). Therefore, the operator can visually recognize that the positioning of the flat flexible cable has been reliably achieved, so that the positioning can be performed more favorably.
[0016]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, the pair of first guide surfaces (293) has an end on the near side in the cable insertion direction (D) facing the pair of second guide surfaces (295). The electrical connector (1) according to
According to this configuration, the ends of the pair of first guide surfaces on the near side in the cable insertion direction have regions that do not face the pair of second guide surfaces. , The front end of the first guide surface is open upward. Therefore, when the tip of the flat flexible cable is directed toward the guide recess, the second guide surface faces the first guide surface even if the position of the tip is slightly shifted upward (opposite to the wiring board). Since the guide can be guided to the guide concave portion (the first guide surface side) through a portion (notch) which is not provided, positioning of the flat flexible cable in the width direction (the direction orthogonal to the cable insertion direction) is easier.
[0017]
It may be configured to include a pair of eaves members (294) constituting the pair of second guide surfaces (295).
In this case, a notch (296) is formed on the near side of the eaves member in the cable insertion direction, and this notch allows the one end of the pair of first guide surfaces on the near side in the cable insertion direction to have the notch (296). A region that does not face the pair of second guide surfaces may be formed.
