この発明は、車両用ヘッドランプ、フォグランプ、コーナリングランプ、カーブランプ、ベンディングランプなどの車両用灯具であって、道路環境や車両走行環境に応じて配光パターンを変える車両用灯具にかかるものである。特に、この発明は、車両の前方の環境に対応した配光パターンが確実に得られる車両用灯具に関するものである。なお、この明細書において、「路面など」とは、路面およびその路面上の人(歩行者など)や物(先行車や対向車や道路標識や建物など)などを言う。

【従来の技術】
道路環境や車両走行環境に応じて配光パターンを変える車両用灯具は、従来からある(たとえば、特許文献1参照)。この車両用灯具は、車両の前部に装備された複数の灯具(2−i)と、車両の走行方向などを検出する走行方向検出手段(3)および車速を検出する車速検出手段(4)と、この走行方向検出手段(3)および車速検出手段(4)からの検知信号に応じて前記複数の灯具(2−i)を点灯消灯して配光パターンを変える照射制御手段(5)とを備えるものである。

ところが、前記の従来の技術は、走行方向検出手段(3)および車速検出手段(4)により、車両の走行方向などや車速を検出するものであるが、道路環境や車両走行環境、特に、車両の前方の環境を検知する手段を備えていない。このために、前記の従来の技術は、車両の前方の環境に対応した配光パターンを確実に得る点において課題がある。

上記の目的を達成するために、請求項1にかかる発明は、車両の前部の左右両側にそれぞれほぼ垂直な回転軸回りに回転可能に装備され、光を路面などに照射する光照射手段と、車両の前方の環境を検知するために車両の前方の情報を撮像して画像信号として出力する撮像装置と、前記撮像装置からの画像信号に基づいて車両の前方の環境に適応する配光パターンの駆動制御信号を出力する制御装置と、前記制御装置からの駆動制御信号に基づいて前記光照射手段を前記回転軸回りに回転させる駆動手段と、を備えたことを特徴とする。

(実施の形態の構成の説明)
図4において、1Lおよび1Rは、車両Cの前部の左右両側にそれぞれ搭載されているヘッドランプである。以下、左側のヘッドランプ1Lについて詳細に説明する。なお、右側のヘッドランプ1Rは、左側のヘッドランプ1Lに対してほぼ左右対称(左右逆)となる。

前記ヘッドランプ1Lは、灯室2を区画するランプハウジング3およびランプレンズ(もしくはアウターカバー)4と、この灯室2内に配置された走行用ランプユニット5およびすれ違い用ランプユニット6および補助用ランプユニット7とから構成されている。前記補助用ランプユニット7は、この実施の形態にかかる車両用灯具であって、たとえば、コーナリングランプ、カーブランプ、ベンディングランプなどの車両用灯具である。

この結果、前記光照射手段14は、車両Cに搭載した際に、ほぼ垂直な回転軸D回りに回転可能に構成されることとなる。すなわち、前記光照射手段14の光照射方向(光軸方向)Z−Zが回転軸D回りに左右に回転することとなる。この光照射手段14の回転範囲θは、車両Cのカーラインの前後方向F−Bに対して外側に、すなわち、左側の光照射手段14においては左側に、また、右側の光照射手段14においては右側に、約40°〜45°の範囲である。

前記撮像装置16は、CCDカメラ18と、画像処理手段19とから構成されている。この撮像装置16は、車両Cの前方の環境を検知するために車両Cの前方の情報をCCDカメラ18で撮像し、このCCDカメラ18で撮像した画像を画像処理手段19で処理し、この画像処理手段19で画像処理した画像信号を前記制御装置17に出力するものである。

(実施の形態の作用の説明)
この実施の形態にかかる車両用灯具は、以上のごとき構成からなり、以下、その作用について説明する。

まず、図4および図5に示すように、撮像装置16が横断歩道29の約30m手前にある路面A上の予告道路標示30(図4および図5において、◇にて示す)を車両Cの前方の情報として撮像する。すると、この撮像装置16は、車両Cの前方の情報としての予告道路標示30を画像信号として制御装置17に出力する。この制御装置17は、撮像装置16からの予告道路標示30の画像信号に基づいて、横断歩道29およびその横断歩道29の左右両側の部分を照明する配光パターンLP、RPの駆動制御信号を左側モータ13L、右側モータ13Rに出力する。この左側モータ13L、右側モータ13Rは、制御装置17からの駆動制御信号に基づいて、左側のヘッドランプ1Lの補助用ランプユニット7の光照射手段14、右側のヘッドランプ1Rの補助用ランプユニット7の光照射手段14を回転軸D回りにそれぞれ外側に回転させる。

つぎに、図6に示すように、撮像装置16が右曲線道路のセンターライン33を車両Cの前方の情報として撮像する。すると、この撮像装置16は、車両Cの前方の情報としてのセンターライン33を画像信号として制御装置17に出力する。この制御装置17は、撮像装置16からのセンターライン33の画像信号に基づいて、右側の光照射手段14の最適な回転角度を演算し、この演算された回転角度に応じた駆動制御信号(右曲線道路の曲がり方向の部分を照明する配光パターンRPの駆動制御信号)を右側モータ13Rに出力する。この右側モータ13Rは、制御装置17からの駆動制御信号に基づいて、右側の光照射手段14を回転軸D回りに所定の角度分外側に回転させる。

この結果、右側の光照射手段14は、点灯すると共に車両Cのカーラインの前後方向F−Bに対して外側に、すなわち、右側に所定の角度向くこととなる。すると、図6に示すように、補助用配光パターンRP(図6中、点線にて示す)が右曲線道路の曲がり方向の部分を照明する。これにより、右曲線道路の曲がり方向の部分を照明して視認することができ、交通安全上好ましい。この図6中においては、すれ違い用配光パターンP(図6中、実線にて示す)が照射されている。なお、図6は、右曲線道路の曲がり方向の部分の照明状態を示す。左曲線道路の曲がり方向の部分を照明する場合は、左側の光照射手段14が左側に所定角度回転して左曲線道路の曲がり方向の部分を照明する。また、光照射手段14の回転角度は、曲線道路の曲線半径に対応して決定される。このように、図6において、撮像装置16が撮像する車両Cの前方の情報は、曲路の路面上のセンタラインで33あり、また、制御装置17は、前記センタライン33の画像信号に基づいて曲がった方向の光照射手段14を曲線半径に対応する角度に回転させる駆動制御信号を駆動手段としてのモータ13に出力するものである。
