Abstract
Description
【0001】
一例として、L*a*b*表色系において、(a*,b*)=(0,0)を標準の白色とすると、(a*,b*)≠(0,0)、例えば(a*,b*)=(2,−5)の白色を下地とするような用紙である。
【0003】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus and an image forming method, and more particularly to an image forming apparatus and an image forming method for forming and outputting a color image.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Generally, an image forming apparatus such as a color copying machine or a color printer is designed on the assumption that a color image is formed on a white sheet of paper. However, there are various types of paper having slightly different whiteness (hereinafter, referred to as “whiteness”) even with white paper having the same base. As an example, in the L * a * b * color system, if (a * , b * ) = (0, 0) is standard white, then (a * , b * ) ≠ (0, 0), for example, ( a * , b * ) = (2, −5) white paper.
[0003]
As described above, in the image forming apparatus designed with (a * , b * ) = (0, 0) as the standard white, if an image is formed on a non-standard white paper, the highlighted portion is Therefore, even if the gray balance is achieved on the paper of (a * , b * ) 用紙 (0, 0), for example, on the paper of (a * , b * ) = (2, −5), However, apparently, the color looks bluish and the color balance is poor, and an image is formed in a color slightly different from the color desired by the user.
[0004]
Therefore, conventionally, in a color print processing apparatus, a printing surface of a printing paper is read in advance by an image sensor, and a paper color correction signal corresponding to the color of the printing paper is stored, and for each pixel of the original image data, The original image data is printed in a color close to the original even if the paper is variously colored by taking out the paper color correction signal corresponding to the color of the original and correcting the signal level (for example, And Patent Document 1).
[0005]
Regardless of the type of recording paper, the first image data obtained by reading the original image and the first image data to obtain an image having an apparently constant gradation for the same original image. A second image data obtained by reading an image on a recording sheet on which an image is formed according to the first image data is compared, and based on the comparison result, the gradation data of the first image data and the second image data are compared. There is also an image processing apparatus that calculates gamma correction data so that tone data of image data becomes substantially equal, and performs gamma correction using the calculated gamma correction data (for example, see Patent Document 2).
[0006]
Furthermore, in order to perform calibration according to the characteristics of the paper used for image output, a test pattern was printed on output paper used for printer output, and when the pattern was read, the test pattern was printed out by switching reading. There is also an image processing apparatus that switches to an image reading function according to the type of output paper (for example, see Patent Document 3).

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the related art according to Patent Literature 1 employs a configuration in which the information on the base of the printing paper is acquired by reading the printing surface of the printing paper before performing the color printing, and thus is particularly susceptible to the influence of the base. Since it is not possible to grasp how much the degree of whiteness of the background actually affects the highlight-medium density portion, it is not possible to cope with a change in the gradation of the highlight-medium density portion caused by the background. .
[0009]
The prior art according to Reference 2 employs a configuration in which correction data is calculated based on first image data obtained by reading a reference document image, and therefore, gradations not included in the reference document image are used. Since correction data cannot be calculated for, there is no problem when printing the same original image as the reference original image, but when printing an original image that includes gradations not included in the reference original image. Has a problem that the gradation cannot be corrected.
[0010]
For this problem, for each document image to be printed, a first image data obtained by reading the document image and a second image data obtained by reading an image on a recording sheet formed in accordance with the first image data. 2 can be solved by calculating a correction data based on the comparison result and performing a series of processes for applying the correction data to perform the correction. It takes a very long time to form an image, and this is impractical.
[0011]
In the related art disclosed in Patent Literature 3, the calibration is performed on the print output characteristics of the image output unit. Therefore, when a plurality of paper trays include papers having different backgrounds, the image output unit is changed every time the paper is changed. Calibration must be performed, and there is a problem that it is not possible to perform a process corresponding to the whiteness of the base for each sheet.
[0012]
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and has as its object to achieve a gray balance even for paper other than the reference paper without being affected by the whiteness of the background of the output paper. An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method capable of forming a color image with a smooth gradation.
[0013]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, according to the present invention, reference tone data is output on a reference sheet, and tone data obtained by reading an image based on the output reference tone data is stored as reference data. The same reference tone data as that of the reference sheet is output on a sheet of paper having a different whiteness from the base sheet, and tone data obtained by reading an image based on the output tone data is stored as measurement data. Then, correction data is created based on the comparison result between the reference data and the measurement data. When a color image is formed on the reference paper and on a sheet of paper having a different whiteness, the gradation is based on the created correction data. A configuration for performing correction is adopted.
[0014]
As an example, in the L * a * b * color system, (a * , b * ) = (0, 0) is set as a standard white, and a sheet having the standard white as a base is set as a reference sheet. Rather than outputting image data obtained by reading a document image on this reference paper, it outputs reference grayscale data and reads an image based on the output reference grayscale data. Reference data can be obtained for all gradations when an image is formed. On the other hand, by outputting the same reference tone data on a reference sheet and a sheet of paper having different background whiteness, and reading an image based on the output tone data, the brightness of the background in the highlight to medium density portions is particularly improved. Measurement data taking into account the influence can be obtained. When forming a color image on a sheet of paper having a different whiteness from the base sheet, gradation correction is performed by applying correction data created based on a comparison result between the reference data and the measured data. In addition, a color image having a gray balance and a smooth gradation can be formed on a sheet other than the reference sheet without being affected by the whiteness of the background of the output sheet.

With respect to the correction data created in this way and stored in the correction data LUT sections 25-1 to 25-n, correction data selection is performed according to externally supplied paper type information during normal image formation (copying). It is selected by the
[0033]
Here, the paper type information may be specified and input by the user on the user interface, or the paper type information may be set in advance for each paper tray, and the paper type corresponding to the paper tray selected by the user may be set. Information may be input. It is also possible to provide a well-known detection sensor capable of detecting the whiteness of the base of the paper for each paper tray, and to input a sensor output corresponding to the paper tray selected by the user as paper type information. is there.
[0034]
As described above, instead of outputting image data obtained by reading a document image on a reference sheet, output reference gradation data and reading an image based on the output reference gradation data, Reference data can be obtained for all gradations when an image is formed on a sheet. Also, by outputting the same reference gradation data on a sheet of paper having a different background whiteness from the reference paper and reading an image based on the outputted gradation data, the whiteness of the background in the highlight to medium density portions is particularly improved. Measurement data taking into account the influence can be obtained.
[0035]
Then, when forming a color image on a sheet of paper having a different whiteness of the base sheet from the reference sheet, by applying correction data created based on a comparison result between the reference data and the measurement data, performing white background correction, It is possible to form a color image with a gray balance and a smooth gradation without being influenced by the whiteness of the background of the output paper, even on paper other than the reference paper. In particular, since the correction data LUT units 25-1 to 25-n can be adapted to output paper having different background whiteness simply by switching the correction

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, the reference grayscale data is output on the reference paper, and the reference data obtained by reading the image based on the output reference grayscale data, the reference paper and the white The same reference tone data is output on paper of different degrees, correction data is created based on the comparison result with the measurement data obtained by reading an image based on the output reference tone data, and the reference When a color image is formed on paper having different whiteness, the gradation correction is performed based on the created correction data, so that it is not affected by the whiteness of the background of the output paper, Even with paper, a color image with a smooth gray scale with a good gray balance can be formed.
