Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a discharge lamp lighting device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, liquid crystal televisions and liquid crystal monitors have become larger. Along with this, the lamps (cold cathode discharge lamps, cathode or dielectric barrier discharge lamps; hereinafter, abbreviated as “lamp”) of backlight units for liquid crystal televisions and liquid crystal monitors have increased in number, resulting in higher output of transformers, higher lamp currents. Tend to be reduced. For example, it is reduced from 7 to 8 mA / light in the edge light type to 4 to 5 mA / light in the multiple light direct type.
[0003]
Due to these trends, the setting of the OPEN detection circuit (protection circuit) in the inverter forming the conventional lamp drive circuit is severe. In addition, a backlight unit having a specification that cannot set OPEN detection has appeared.
[0004]
Under such technical background, with the recent increase in the size of backlight units and the increase in the number of lamps, the need for new protection circuits that can be used even when the lamp current is reduced has emerged.

At this time, if the DC voltage Va is higher (Va> Vb) than the voltage Vb shown in FIG. 4B divided by the resistors R13 and R14, no current flows to the diode D3, and thus the protection circuit is not provided. [Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the above-described conventional discharge lamp lighting device including the protection circuit, the lamp lighting / OPEN determination is performed based on the voltage value of the DC voltage Va of the lamp current monitoring circuit. It is necessary to design with a margin for voltage MIN / MAX, dimming, low temperature, and the like.

Further, in the conventional circuit, as shown in FIG. 17, when the lamp is turned on, the low-side voltage Vb of the comparator IC1 is set to the threshold value of the

Further, in recent years, the setting of the lamp current has been lowered due to the increase in the size of the liquid crystal television and the liquid crystal monitor and the increase in the number of lamps, and accordingly, the conventional protection circuit has a high voltage as the voltage Vb (Va) when the lamp is turned on. Is difficult to maintain, setting is difficult, and in some situations, the protection circuit cannot be used.

Further, in the conventional discharge lamp lighting device, the current supply circuit to the base of the oscillation circuit transistor is supplied from a main input power supply unit used for lighting the discharge lamp. However, in response to a demand for a discharge lamp lighting device having a high input voltage of 12 volts, a large number of resistors having a large rated power are used, and large heat is generated, so that a circuit for supplying a base current becomes large. In addition, since the input voltage is high, it is necessary to use a high-withstand voltage circuit component, resulting in a problem that the cost is increased.
[0019]
The present invention has been made in view of such a conventional technical problem, and detects disconnection and breakage of a discharge lamp by a method that does not use a voltage obtained by converting a maximum value of a tube current value into a DC voltage. It is an object of the present invention to provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of suppressing the influence of the input voltage and the ambient temperature at the time of.
[0020]
The present invention also provides a discharge lamp lighting device capable of suppressing difficulty in setting due to the same circuit for detecting disconnection and breakage of the discharge lamp and the circuit for determining whether to activate the protection circuit. The purpose is to do.
[0021]
Another object of the present invention is to provide a discharge lamp lighting device that can suppress an extra margin in setting a protection circuit operation in a recent discharge lamp lighting device with a low tube current specification.
[0022]
In addition, the present invention facilitates the design of the base current supply circuit of the oscillating transistor of the discharge lamp lighting device for high input voltage, reduces the power consumption of the base current supply circuit portion, and enables the use of circuit components that do not have high withstand voltage. It is intended to provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of reducing costs.

The invention according to
[0024]
In the discharge lamp lighting device according to the first aspect of the present invention, the detection of disconnection or breakage of the discharge lamp is performed by performing a half-wave rectified voltage waveform by changing the tube current without performing DC voltage conversion on the maximum value of the tube current value. , The influence of the input voltage and the ambient temperature can be suppressed.
[0025]
In the discharge lamp lighting device according to the first aspect of the present invention, the circuit for detecting disconnection and breakage of the discharge lamp and the circuit for determining whether to activate the protection circuit can be separated, so that the comparison voltage can be easily set. In a discharge lamp lighting device with a low tube current specification, the margin required for setting the protection circuit operation is suppressed, and the setting can be performed in a narrow voltage range.
[0026]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the discharge lamp lighting device used for lighting the discharge lamp, the base current of the oscillation transistor forming the self-excited oscillation circuit is controlled by an input power supply that supplies high-voltage power to the discharge lamp. Instead, they are supplied from another low-voltage power supply.
[0027]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the discharge lamp lighting device according to the second aspect, the input power source of the high voltage power is a 12 volt power source, and the another low voltage power source is a 5 volt power source. .
[0028]
In the discharge lamp lighting device according to the second and third aspects of the present invention, a low-voltage power supply different from the high-voltage power supply supplied to the primary winding of the inverter transformer is used as the power supply for supplying the base current of the oscillation transistor. This facilitates the design of the current supply circuit, reduces the power consumption of the base current supply circuit portion, and enables the use of circuit components that do not have a high withstand voltage, thereby achieving cost reduction.
