Description

【0001】

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In recent years, the backlight device used to emit light from a liquid crystal panel such as a liquid crystal television receiver or a liquid crystal display uses a few fluorescent tubes to adjust the screen brightness. Is governed by the brightness of the fluorescent tube described above, and it is very difficult to adjust the brightness of an arbitrary portion of the screen or to make a specific portion black.
[0006]
The present invention relates to a backlight device for emitting light to a display panel such as a liquid crystal panel to emit light, and by using a white LED instead of a fluorescent tube conventionally used, a screen can be easily adjusted. It is possible to change the luminance for each part of the liquid crystal, greatly improve the reproducibility of white and black of the liquid crystal, and greatly improve the image quality of the liquid crystal display.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a backlight device that emits light from a liquid crystal panel, comprising a plurality of white LEDs, a light emitting device that emits one or more white LEDs, and a brightness of the plurality of white LEDs. The present invention relates to a backlight device having a light emission control device for individually controlling and controlling the luminance of a display panel at an arbitrary position and for each pixel.
[0008]

For example, the white LED emission control device 3 transmits a control signal to the white LED group backlight 2 and determines the amount of current flowing to each of the white LEDs 1 in the white LED group backlight 2 by controlling each transistor 12. Then, the brightness of the white LED 1 is adjusted.
[0012]
In this embodiment, the brightness is adjusted using the transistor 12 as an example, but other means such as an FET, other integrated circuits, and PWM may be used.
[0013]
For example, when the letterbox source 11 as shown in FIG. 5 is displayed on the liquid crystal panel, the brightness of the non-image portion is reduced by turning off the white LED 1 at a position corresponding to the non-image portion of the white LED group backlight 2. It becomes possible to make it completely black. Conversely, the luminance can be increased by increasing the amount of current to the white LED 1 in a high luminance portion such as a blue sky.
[0014]
The white LED 1 may be present in a number corresponding to each pixel of the display means, or may be provided in a plurality of pixels at one ratio.
[0015]
As described above, in the backlight device of the present embodiment, the light emitted from the backlight can be adjusted for each pixel of the screen or for each area of the screen according to the input signal, so that a high-contrast image is displayed. Can be realized.
[0016]

The image processing circuit 6 inputs the liquid crystal backlight device 4 and the liquid crystal panel block 9 described in claim 1 to display an image. The audio processing device transmits a signal to the speaker 8 and outputs audio.
[0018]
The video processing circuit 6 inputs a video signal to the white LED light emission control device 3 and the liquid crystal panel block 9 to determine an aperture ratio of the panel. The white LED emission control device 3 detects the brightness of the screen based on the input video signal, determines the white LEDs 1 in the white LED group backlight 2 according to the brightness, and determines the brightness of each of the white LEDs 1. Light is emitted at a brightness of.
[0019]
(Embodiment 3)
FIG. 3 shows a third embodiment of the present invention.
[0020]
Reference numeral 4 denotes the liquid crystal backlight device described in the first embodiment, 6 denotes an image processing circuit, 9 denotes a liquid crystal panel block, and 10 denotes an image input circuit.
[0021]
The video input circuit 10 receives a video signal from the outside and inputs the video signal to the video processing circuit 6. The image processing circuit 6 inputs an image to the backlight device 4 or the liquid crystal panel block 9 described in (Embodiment 1) or (Embodiment 2) and displays an image. At this time, the backlight device detects the brightness of the video signal input from the outside, controls the backlight device according to the brightness of the screen, and turns on / off the white LED for each pixel or each region of the image. , Or by controlling the emission luminance of each white LED, thereby providing a high-contrast, high-quality image.
[0022]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, it is possible to provide a liquid crystal backlight device capable of adjusting the luminance of each part of a display panel, for example, a liquid crystal panel.
