【0100】
<5.変形例>

Thus, in the “multi-area mode”, an area wider than the “normal area mode” is set as the focus area Fa, and in the “spot area mode”, an area smaller than the “normal area mode” is set as the focus area Fa. Therefore, in the “multi-area mode”, the focal position is adjusted so that almost the entire live image is focused, while in the “spot area mode”, only the subject image in the central portion of the live image is focused. The focus position is adjusted. In the case where the

During the autofocus operation, an evaluation value is obtained from the focus area Fa designated by the user in this way, and the lens group is driven based on the evaluation value. That is, since the focus position is adjusted so that only the subject image included in the focus area Fa is focused, an image in which the desired subject image is most focused can be obtained.

If there is, it is changed and set to "normal" (step SP6).

When the processing target area is displayed in an enlarged manner, a focus position specifying process for specifying a focused area in the processing target area is performed under the control of the focus checking unit 56 (step SP9). FIG. 11 is a diagram showing a detailed flow of the focus position specifying process.
[0058]
First, the processing target area is divided into a plurality of sub-blocks having the same area (step SP101). FIG. 12 is a diagram conceptually showing division into sub-blocks. As shown in FIG. 12, the
[0059]
Next, one of the plurality of sub-blocks is determined as a processing target (hereinafter, referred to as a “sub-block of interest”) (step SP102). Subsequently, an evaluation value is derived from the target sub-block by the evaluation value deriving unit 345 (step SP103), and the derived evaluation value is compared with a predetermined threshold (step SP104). By this comparison, when the evaluation value exceeds the threshold value, it is determined that the sub-block of interest is in focus (step SP105). On the other hand, when the evaluation value is equal to or less than the threshold value, the sub-block of interest is in focus. It is determined that it does not exist (step SP106). That is, focus determination is performed on the target sub-block based on the comparison result between the evaluation value and the threshold. The threshold value used for the focus determination is stored in advance in the
[0060]
When focus determination is performed on one target sub-block, the next target sub-block is determined (steps SP107 and SP102), and focus determination is performed on the target sub-block in the same manner as described above. . Then, such processing is repeated, and the focus determination is finally performed on all the sub-blocks included in the processing target area.
[0061]
When the in-focus determination is made for all the sub-blocks (No in step SP107), it is subsequently determined whether or not there is a sub-block determined to be in focus (step SP108).
[0062]
If there is a sub-block determined to be in focus, the sub-block having the highest evaluation value is selected from the sub-blocks determined to be in focus. Then, the selected sub-block is set as an area to be specified to the user (hereinafter, referred to as “display target area”) (step SP109). Subsequently, as shown in state ST4 of FIG. 10, frame f2 serving as an index indicating the display target area is displayed on display device 20 (step SP110). As described above, the higher the evaluation value, the higher the degree of focusing. Therefore, by checking the position where the frame f2 is displayed, the user can determine which position is the most focused in the processing target area. Can be easily confirmed.
[0063]
On the other hand, when there is no sub-block determined to be in focus, there is no in-focus area in the processing target area, and the display target area cannot be specified. Therefore, as shown in state ST5 in FIG. 10, a warning character string At indicating that there is no in-focus area in the processing target area is displayed (step SP111). Such a warning display allows the user to know that there is no in-focus area in the live image.
[0064]
Returning to FIG. 9, when the magnification change button 19 is pressed while the processing target area is enlarged and the frame f2 or the warning character string At is displayed (step SP5), the display magnification is set to “normal”. (Step SP6). Thereby, the display state of the

On the other hand, in the case of the above-described “normal area mode”, “multi-area mode”, or “spot area mode”, the focus block Fb having the highest evaluation value among the plurality of focus blocks Fb is set as the processing target area. The sub-block having the highest evaluation value from the region is set as the display target region. This allows the user to check the position of the image that is most focused.
[0071]
Further, in any of the area modes, the processing target area is displayed in an enlarged manner, so that the in-focus state of the subject image in the processing target area can be easily grasped visually. Therefore, by performing the enlarged display of the processing target area and displaying the frame f2 indicating the focused area in this way, even in the case of the

This threshold value is the same as the threshold value in the focus position specifying process. As a result of this comparison, when the evaluation value exceeds the threshold, it is determined that the processing target area is in focus (step SP203), and the target frame Tf indicating the processing target area is highlighted (step SP204).
