Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a plasma display panel (PDP) using gas discharge light emission used for a display for displaying characters and images and a color television receiver.
[0002]
[Prior art]
A PDP is a display that displays an image by exciting a phosphor with ultraviolet rays generated by gas discharge. The discharge can be classified into an alternating current (AC) type and a direct current (DC) type based on the method of forming the discharge. [Problems to be solved by the invention]
The degree of impression when an observer views an image displayed on a display such as a PDP largely depends on the brightness of the image if the resolution is VGA (640 × 480) or more. That is, the higher the screen brightness, the more beautiful the displayed image looks. In addition, if the screen luminance is sufficiently high, it is possible to set the transmittance of the glass substrate on the display surface to a low level to the extent that a desired screen luminance can be obtained, thereby suppressing reflection of external light. Because of this, the contrast in a bright place is increased, and a beautiful image can be displayed even in a bright place. However, there is a problem that PDP has lower luminance and lower contrast in a bright place than CRT.
[0009]
As a method of increasing the brightness of the screen in the PDP, it is conceivable to increase the driving voltage. However, in this case, there are problems such as erroneous discharge easily occurring and an increase in cost due to a higher withstand voltage of the driver circuit.
[0010]
As another method for increasing the brightness of the screen, it is conceivable to add argon (Ar) to the discharge gas of the PDP. That is, by adding Ar, the discharge starting voltage can be reduced by the Penning effect, and even if the same driving voltage is applied, the lower the discharge starting voltage is, the higher the discharge current is, and thus the higher the luminance can be. is there. However, since Ar easily sputters the solid surface as used in the sputtering process, the

The present invention has been made to solve such a problem, and an object of the present invention is to provide a PDP capable of performing high-luminance display with low operating voltage and realizing stable driving.

[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, a plasma display panel according to the present invention has an electrode covered with a dielectric layer on a substrate and a protective layer on the dielectric layer, and zinc is added to the protective layer. It is characterized by having been done.

When the discharge starting voltage was examined for Panel A and Panel B, it was 161 V for Panel A, whereas it was 175 V for Panel B. Panel A can lower the operating voltage as compared to Panel B. . Also, the same drive voltage (175V), when the entire panel to measure the luminance at the time of white display, while was 525cd / m 2 in panel A, a 470 cd / m 2 In panel B, the panel B In comparison, panel A had higher brightness.
