Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a print control device, a print control method, and a print control program, and more particularly, to a print control device, a print control method, and a print control program capable of adjusting a deviation of a formation position between dots formed at different timings.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, a patch-shaped test pattern has been printed when adjusting the deviation of the formation position between dots formed at different timings. In such a case, a plurality of test patterns are recorded with the return dot formation timing relatively changed with respect to the forward dot formation timing. For example, when a forward dot is printed using a predetermined print timing signal PTS (0), the print timing signal PTS () is obtained by shifting the return dot by one dot from the print timing signal PTS (0) for each test pattern. 1) Print using PTS (5). In such a case, in each test pattern, if the relative formation positions of the forward dot and the return dot are shifted, a blank portion is generated between the dots, and a rough feeling or a light and shade pattern is visually recognized. By this action, the user recognizes the deviation of the dot formation position, and when the user selects the test pattern formed at the most appropriate timing that does not give the most roughness, the dot formation position is determined at the timing of forming this test pattern. (For example, see Patent Document 1).

[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the above-described conventional print control apparatus, since the patch-shaped test pattern is printed at the same print resolution in both the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction, it takes a long time to print the test pattern. was there.
[0005]
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and has as its object to provide a print control device, a print control method, and a print control program capable of performing a test pattern printing time in a short time.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems and Their Functions and Effects]
In order to solve at least a part of the problems described above, the present invention employs the following solutions. The printing control apparatus according to the present invention includes a printing unit that forms dots on a print medium by using a print head having a plurality of nozzles that eject ink and prints the first and second dots formed at different timings in a printing unit that performs printing. A print instruction for printing a test pattern for adjusting a deviation of a formation position between the first dot and the second dot. A test print instruction receiving means for receiving, and a patch shape in which dots are formed at a predetermined recording rate in a predetermined area when a print instruction of the test pattern is received, and a significant direction in the main scanning direction or the sub-scanning direction Print data generating means for generating print data capable of printing a test pattern formed by reducing the other print resolution based on the print resolution of the other; The print data is summarized in that comprising a print data output means for outputting to the printing unit.
[0007]
The test pattern used in the present invention is a patch-like pattern in which dots are formed in a predetermined area at a predetermined recording rate. The patch-shaped pattern significantly affects the print image quality (roughness) when a shift occurs in the dot formation position. Therefore, it is possible to determine the granularity due to the relative shift of the formation position between dots based on the granularity of a certain area. At this time, a patch-like pattern in which the printing resolution in the significant direction of the main scanning direction or the sub-scanning direction is maintained and the printing resolution in the other direction is reduced. In this way, it is possible to simplify the printing of the test pattern in order to maintain the required print resolution in the significant direction and to reduce the print resolution in the insignificant direction. Therefore, the printing time of the test pattern can be shortened, and the convenience for the user can be improved. Note that the phrase “at a predetermined area and at a predetermined recording rate” is not limited to a case where dots having a predetermined recording rate are formed at a predetermined area. Therefore, the test pattern may be a pattern in which the recording rate changes stepwise. Further, a pattern in which the recording rate changes gradually (gradation) may be used. Here, the significant direction according to the present invention refers to a direction that is formed at a different timing in a printing unit that forms dots on a print medium by a print head having a plurality of nozzles that eject ink and performs printing. A significant direction is used to adjust the deviation of the formation position between the first dot and the second dot, and a non-significant direction is a direction insignificant to adjust the deviation.
[0008]
In the test pattern used in the present invention, the ratio of the portion where the first dots and the second dots are arranged in the main scanning direction or the sub-scanning direction is the ratio of the portions where the first dots or the portions where the second dots are arranged. The test pattern is significantly more than the ratio. In order to complete the present invention, the present inventor has proposed that when first dots and second dots formed at different timings are formed adjacent to each other, when the formation positions between these dots are relatively shifted. It has been found that the granularity (roughness) of the printed image is conspicuous. Therefore, when there is a relative shift in the formation position between dots, the portion where roughness is noticeable increases significantly. For this reason, it is easy to determine the dot shift. Thus, it is possible to adjust the ejection timing of the ink and to precisely adjust the dot formation position while shortening the printing time.
[0009]
In the printing control apparatus of the present invention, the first dot and the second dot may be dots formed by nozzles having different positions in the main scanning direction. The ink ejected from the nozzles at different positions in the main scanning direction may be the same color ink or inks of different hues. When dots are formed at the same position by ink ejected from nozzles having different positions in the main scanning direction, the ink ejection timing is adjusted according to the main scanning speed of the print head. In this case, by applying the present invention, the dot formation position can be adjusted with high accuracy.
[0010]
In the printing control apparatus of the present invention, the first dot is a forward dot formed when the print head moves forward in the main scan, and the second dot is formed when the print head moves backward in the main scan. It may be a double dot. In bidirectional printing, the slight difference in the formation position between the forward dot and the backward dot affects the print quality compared to unidirectional printing in which printing is performed only during the forward movement of main scanning. Is big. In this case, by applying the present invention, the formation positions of the forward dot and the return dot can be adjusted with high accuracy, so that the print image quality can be particularly effectively improved.
[0011]
In the print control device of the present invention, the test pattern may be a test pattern in which the first dots and the second dots are formed in a checkered arrangement. By using a test pattern in which the first dots and the second dots are arranged in a checkered pattern, it is easy to determine the granularity due to the relative shift of the formation position between the dots, and to easily adjust the ink ejection timing. can do. As a result, it is possible to precisely adjust the dot formation position.
[0012]
Further, in the print control apparatus of the present invention, it is preferable that the predetermined recording rate in the test pattern is a recording rate corresponding to a halftone. A halftone image, that is, a grayscale image near the middle of the grayscale range that can be reproduced by the printing apparatus has a greater effect on print image quality than a high grayscale or low grayscale image, and the granularity is more easily discriminated. . Therefore, by using a halftone image as a test pattern, it is possible to accurately adjust the dot formation position. Further, in the print control apparatus of the present invention, when the print head can eject inks of different hues, the test pattern is such that the first dot and the second dot are formed using inks of different hues. The test pattern may be formed in a state where the first dot and the second dot partially overlap.
[0013]
When the first dot and the second dot having different hues partially overlap, a portion having a different hue from the first dot and the second dot is generated. Therefore, when the dot formation position is displaced, the variation of the hue inside the test pattern becomes large. By using dots formed of inks of different hues for the test pattern, it is possible to easily determine the granularity due to the relative shift of the formation position between the dots and to easily adjust the ink ejection timing. As a result, it is possible to precisely adjust the dot formation position.
[0014]
In the print control device of the present invention, when the print head can eject inks of different hues, the first dot is a forward dot formed when the print head moves forward in the main scanning, and the second dot is a second dot. The dot is a return dot formed when the print head moves backward in the main scan, and the test pattern may be a test pattern in which the forward dot and the return dot are both formed using a plurality of colors of ink. In this manner, in the test pattern, by forming the forward dot and the return dot using inks of a plurality of colors of different hues, it is easy to determine the granularity due to the relative shift of the formation position between the dots, and the ink Can be easily adjusted. As a result, it is possible to precisely adjust the dot formation position.
[0015]
Also, the print mode instruction receiving means of the test print instruction receiving means can receive a plurality of print mode instructions having different print resolutions, and the print data generating means can execute the print mode instruction received by the print mode instruction receiving means. Print data capable of printing a test pattern may be generated based on the print resolution. Thereby, it is possible to indicate a print resolution in a significant direction at a desired print resolution and a print resolution reduced based on the print resolution in the significant direction. Here, as described above, the significant direction is formed at different timings by a printing unit that forms dots on a print medium by a print head having a plurality of nozzles that eject ink and performs printing. A significant direction is used to adjust the deviation of the formation position between the first dot and the second dot, and a non-significant direction is a direction meaningless to adjust the deviation. Therefore, when printing is performed using nozzles formed at different positions in the main scanning direction, it is necessary to adjust the deviation in the main scanning direction. Therefore, in such a case, it is preferable that the significant direction be the main scanning direction and the insignificant direction be the sub-scanning direction.
[0016]
The present invention, in addition to the configuration as the above-described print control device, further includes a print head having a plurality of nozzles for ejecting ink, a printing unit that performs printing by forming dots on a print medium by the print head. , A printing apparatus including the above-described printing control apparatus. Further, it goes without saying that the above-described print control device can be realized as a method thereof, and it is needless to say that the present invention can be realized as a program capable of realizing equivalent functions in the device. At this time, the recording medium may be a flexible disk, a CD-ROM, a magneto-optical disk, an IC card, a ROM cartridge, a punched card, a printed matter on which a code such as a barcode is printed, or a computer internal storage device (RAM or ROM). And a computer-readable medium such as an external storage device.

(2) Print control:
FIG. 7 is a flowchart of the print mode control routine. This is a process executed by the CPU in the computer PC. In the figure, when this process is started, first, a print mode such as a print resolution is set (step S100). In the present embodiment, as described above, one of the print resolution of “720 DPI * 720 DPI”, the print resolution of “1440 DPI * 720 DPI”, and the print resolution of “2880 DPI * 1440 DPI” can be set. If the set print mode is the image print mode (step S120), print data for image printing is generated based on the set print resolution (step S130). On the other hand, if the set print mode is the test pattern print mode (step S120), print data for the test pattern is generated based on the set print resolution (step S140). As described above, these print data include raster data for specifying on / off of dots for each pixel on the raster and sub-scan feed amount data for specifying the sub-scan feed amount. The printer PRT receives these data and executes printing.
[0032]
FIG. 8 is an explanatory diagram showing the dot recording method in the image print mode when the print resolution is set to 720 DPI * 720 DPI. As shown in FIG. 8A, in this dot recording method, the nozzle pitch k is 4, the number N of used nozzles is 18, and the number of scan repetitions s is 2. In addition, the lower table of FIG. 8A shows parameters relating to each pass from the first to the eighth pass. One cycle includes eight (= ks) sub-scans. Eight sub-scans are completed by repeating two sub-scans with a feed amount of (9,9) dots four times. 8A, when the horizontal position is "0", the odd-numbered pixels of each raster line are recorded in the pass, and when the horizontal position is "1", the even-numbered pixels are recorded. This means recording pixels.
[0033]
FIG. 8B shows nozzle numbers used for dot printing on each raster line in each pass, corresponding to each pass number in FIG. 8A. The line number of each raster line shown at the left end is a continuous number within the effective recording range. When the pass number is odd, dot recording is performed when the print head moves forward, and when the pass number is even, dot recording is performed when moving backward. As can be seen from this figure, a plurality of dots on each raster line are formed using two different nozzles depending on both the forward and backward movements of the main scan of the print head. The right side of FIG. 8A shows the relationship between the dot formation position within the nozzle pitch and the horizontal position. Since k = 6 and s = 2 in the image printing mode, the dots of the entire image are arranged in a uniform order in units of an area of a total of 8 pixels of 2 pixels in the main scanning direction and 4 pixels in the sub-scanning direction. It is formed.
[0034]
The
[0035]
Here, when such a dot recording method is adopted, the printing resolution in the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction is 720 DPI * 720 DPI. On the other hand, when printing is performed at such a printing resolution when a test pattern is printed, the printing time becomes long from the viewpoint of printing the test pattern. This test pattern only needs to be able to determine the deviation in the main scanning direction. That is, the printing resolution in the main scanning direction needs to be equal to the printing resolution when printing an image, while the printing resolution in the sub-scanning direction does not require the same printing resolution. Therefore, in the present embodiment, in the test pattern mode, the print resolution in the sub-scanning direction is reduced to half the print resolution in the image print mode. As a result, it is possible to significantly reduce the processing time of the test pattern printing process while ensuring image quality capable of determining the deviation of the dot formation position in the main scanning direction, thereby improving user convenience. Next, a dot recording method for halving the printing resolution in the sub-scanning direction will be described.
[0036]
(3) Test pattern recording method:
FIG. 10 is an explanatory diagram showing a dot recording method in the test pattern print mode. As shown in FIG. 10A, in this dot recording method, the nozzle pitch k is 2, the number of used nozzles N is 19, and the number of scan repetitions s is 2, as shown in FIG. The lower table of FIG. 10A shows parameters related to the first to fourth passes. One cycle includes four (= ks) sub-scans. The four sub-scans are completed by repeating two sub-scans with a feed amount of (10, 9) dots twice. The horizontal position shown at the bottom of FIG. 10A records the odd-numbered pixels of each raster line in the pass when the horizontal position is “0”, and the even-numbered pixels when the horizontal position is “1”. This means recording pixels.
[0037]
FIG. 10B shows nozzle numbers used for dot printing on each raster line in each pass corresponding to each pass number in FIG. 10A. The line number of each raster line shown at the left end is a continuous number within the effective recording range. When the pass number is odd, dot recording is performed when the print head moves forward, and when the pass number is even, dot recording is performed when moving backward. As can be seen from this figure, a plurality of dots on each raster line are formed using two different nozzles depending on the forward or backward movement of the print head. Further, dots of raster lines adjacent to each other are formed by main scanning of the print head in different directions.
[0038]
The right side of FIG. 10A shows the relationship between the dot formation position within the nozzle pitch and the horizontal position. Here, in the present embodiment, since the nozzle pitch k = 2 and the number of scan repetitions s = 2, the dots of the entire image have an area of 2 pixels in the main scanning direction and 2 pixels in the sub-scanning direction, for a total of 4 pixels. Are formed in a uniform order. The
[0039]
Next, FIG. 12 shows a flowchart of the print head drive timing adjustment processing. In the figure, first, a test pattern is printed at five timings described later (step S200). FIG. 13 is an explanatory diagram showing a state of a test pattern. ○ indicates an outgoing dot. Also, ● indicates a double dot. In this embodiment, the forward dot and the backward dot have the same color. The test pattern is recorded by changing the formation timing of the return dot in five stages indicated by
[0040]

[0041]
The user selects one of the five printed test patterns with the least roughness and inputs the number (step S220 in FIG. 12). The drive timing of the print head stored in the drive timing table 96 of FIG. 1 is changed to the drive timing corresponding to the input number (step S240). Because the dot formation timing is too far off, the above five test patterns may not be optimally adjusted. In this case, it is determined whether or not to make further adjustment (step S260). If no further adjustment is performed, the process ends. To make further adjustments, print the test pattern again and repeat the same processing.
[0042]
In the above-described embodiment, when printing is performed at a print resolution of 720 DPI * 720 DPI in the image print mode, the test pattern is printed at a print resolution of 360 DPI in the sub-scanning direction in the test pattern mode. Has been greatly reduced. Of course, when the print resolution is 1440 DPI * 720 DPI in the image print mode,
The print resolution in the sub-scanning direction may be halved.
[0043]
FIG. 14 is an explanatory diagram showing a dot recording method in the image print mode when the print resolution is 1440 DPI * 720 DPI. As shown in FIG. 14A, in this dot recording method, the nozzle pitch k is 4, the number of used nozzles N is 20, and the number of scan repetitions s is 4. The lower table of FIG. 14A shows parameters relating to each pass from the first to the 16th pass. One cycle includes 16 (= ks) sub-scans. Sixteen sub-scans are completed by repeating two sub-scans with a feed amount of (5,5) dots eight times. In the horizontal position shown at the bottom of FIG. 13A, when the horizontal position is “0”, the odd-numbered pixels of each raster line are recorded in the pass, and when the horizontal position is “1”, the even-numbered pixels are recorded. Pixels are recorded. When the value is "2", the odd-numbered pixels are recorded. When the value is "3", the even-numbered pixels are recorded. It means to do.
[0044]
FIG. 14B shows nozzle numbers used for dot printing on each raster line in each pass, corresponding to each pass number in FIG. 14A. The line number of each raster line shown at the left end is a continuous number within the effective recording range. When the pass number is odd, dot recording is performed when the print head moves forward, and when the pass number is even, dot recording is performed when moving backward. As can be seen from this figure, a plurality of dots on each raster line are formed using four different nozzles depending on both the forward and backward movements of the main scan of the print head. The right side of FIG. 14A shows the relationship between the dot formation position within the nozzle pitch and the horizontal position. Since k = 4 and s = 4 in the image printing mode, the dots of the entire image are arranged in a uniform order in units of a total of 16 pixels of 4 pixels in the main scanning direction and 4 pixels in the sub-scanning direction. It is formed.
[0045]
The
[0046]
FIG. 15 is an explanatory diagram showing a dot recording method in the test pattern mode at this time. As shown in FIG. 15A, in this dot recording method, the nozzle pitch k is 2, the number N of used nozzles is 19, and the number of scan repetitions s is 4, as shown in FIG. The table at the bottom of FIG. 15A shows parameters related to the first to eighth passes. One cycle includes eight (= ks) sub-scans. Eight sub-scans are completed by repeating two sub-scans with a feed amount of (3, 6) dots four times. In the horizontal position shown at the bottom of FIG. 15A, when the horizontal position is “0”, an odd-numbered pixel of each raster line is recorded in the pass, and when the horizontal position is “1”, In the pass, the even-numbered pixels of each raster line are recorded. When the horizontal position is "2", the odd-numbered pixels of each raster line are recorded in the pass. When the horizontal position is "3", the even-numbered pixels are recorded. Means to record.
[0047]
FIG. 15B shows nozzle numbers used for dot printing on each raster line in each pass corresponding to each pass number in FIG. 15A.
[0048]
The right side of FIG. 15A shows the relationship between the dot formation position within the nozzle pitch and the horizontal position. Here, in the present embodiment, since the nozzle pitch k = 2 and the number of scan repetitions s = 4, the dots of the entire image have a total of 8 pixels of 4 pixels in the main scanning direction and 2 pixels in the sub-scanning direction. Are formed in a uniform order. The
[0049]
Needless to say, even when the printing resolution is 2880 * 1440, the printing time can be reduced by setting the sub-scanning direction to 720 when printing the test pattern. In the above-described embodiment, the configuration in which the printing resolution in the sub-scanning direction is halved is adopted in order to reduce the printing time. However, from the viewpoint of shortening the printing time, the present invention is not limited to half, and the image printing is not limited. Obviously, if the printing resolution is lower than the printing resolution in the sub-scanning direction of the mode, such an effect can be obtained, and which resolution is to be selected is a matter of design.

FIG. 16 is a block diagram illustrating a configuration of a printing system as a modification of the first embodiment. In the modified example, the print data generation unit for test pattern printing (the second print
[0051]
(5) Modification 2:
In the above-described embodiment, the case where the forward dot and the backward dot are formed with the same ink has been exemplified. Here, a case where both are formed with different inks will be described. FIG. 17 is an explanatory diagram showing a modified example of the test pattern. In FIG. 16A, cyan ink (C) is used for forward dots, and magenta ink (M) is used for return dots. In FIG. 16B, cyan ink (C) is used for forward dots, and yellow ink (Y) is used for return dots. The dot recording method is the same as that shown in FIG.
[0052]
In such a case, inks of different hues are used for the forward dot and the backward dot. When dots having different hues overlap each other, portions having different hues are generated. For example, in the example shown in FIG. 17A, the portion where the cyan dot and the magenta dot overlap is blue. In the example shown in FIG. 16B, the portion where the cyan dot and the yellow dot overlap is green. As described above, if inks of different hues are used for the forward dot and the return dot, the variation of the hue inside the test pattern changes depending on the degree of the deviation of the dot formation position, and the degree of roughness is easily recognized. As a result, since the dot formation position can be adjusted with high accuracy, the print quality can be improved. In general, yellow ink has low visibility and is therefore difficult to adjust, but according to the present invention, adjustment can be easily performed.
[0053]
(6) Modification 3:
As described above, several embodiments of the present invention have been described. However, the present invention is not limited to such embodiments at all, and can be implemented in various modes without departing from the gist thereof. It is. For example, the following modifications are also possible. In the above-described embodiment, the relative shift of the formation position between the forward dot and the return dot in the bidirectional printing is adjusted. However, in general, the present invention relates to the first dot and the second dot formed at different timings. Can be applied to the adjustment of the deviation of the formation position between the dots. Therefore, the present invention is applicable to the adjustment of the relative displacement of the dots formed by the ink ejected from each nozzle row when the print head has a plurality of nozzle rows at different positions in the main scanning direction. Can also be applied. For example, in the

[0056]
(8) Others:
In the above-described embodiment, in the test pattern, the forward dot and the return dot are formed using inks of different hues from each other, but the forward dot and the return dot are formed using a plurality of colors of ink. May be. Even in this case, as in the third modification, it is easy to visually recognize the roughness due to the shift in the dot formation position. In the above-described embodiment, an ink jet printer using a piezo element is used. However, a printer that ejects ink droplets by another method may be used. For example, there is a printer of a type in which a heater disposed in an ink passage is energized and ink droplets are ejected by bubbles generated in the ink passage.
[0057]
Since the printing apparatus of the present embodiment described above includes processing by a computer, the printing apparatus according to the present embodiment can also be implemented as a recording medium on which a program for realizing the processing is recorded. Examples of such a recording medium include a flexible disk, a CD-ROM, a magneto-optical disk, an IC card, a ROM cartridge, a punched card, a printed matter on which a code such as a bar code is printed, and a computer internal storage device (such as a RAM or ROM). Various computer-readable media can be used, such as memory and external storage.
[0058]
(9) Summary:
As described above, when the test pattern for determining the deviation of the dot formation position is printed in the test pattern mode, the print resolution in the sub-scanning direction is reduced to half of the print resolution set in the print mode. It is possible to reduce the time for printing the pattern.
