Description

【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, and a facsimile.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, image forming apparatuses have been required to have high image quality, and the trend has become more and more remarkable due to colorization of images. Further, as an image forming apparatus, a latent image on an image carrier is formed into a toner image by supplying toner from a developer on a developer carrier arranged to face the image carrier with a gap therebetween. Is widely used. In this image forming apparatus, it is effective to narrow the gap between the photoreceptor as the image carrier and the developing roller as the developer carrier for high image quality. It is set to a narrow gap. Normally, this gap is maintained by regulating the axial position with a roller or a face plate provided at the shaft end of the developing roller, and this method can maintain a narrow gap with high accuracy. Some of such image forming apparatuses are shipped with a photoconductor and a developing device mounted in the main body of the image forming apparatus. In this case, the photosensitive member and the developing roller are shipped and transported in a state where they are arranged to face each other with a gap.
[0003]
During this transportation, the image forming apparatus may be impacted by vibration or drop, and the developing roller may be bent. As described above, the developing roller is configured to maintain the gap with the photoconductor by regulating the shaft position at the shaft end, so that even if the developing roller is bent, the end relatively contacts the photoconductor. Hateful. However, the central portion of the developing roller is likely to come into contact with the photoconductor, and this contact damages the surface of the photoconductor, causing an abnormal image such as a black spot at the time of arrival. Such an abnormal image is more likely to occur as the gap between the developing roller and the photoconductor is narrower, because the developing roller is more likely to contact the photoconductor.
[0004]
Further, there is known an image forming apparatus which adopts a process cartridge system in which at least one of a charging device, a developing device and a cleaning device and a photoreceptor are integrally formed, and this is detachably mountable to an image forming apparatus main body. Have been. In the process cartridge system, the maintenance of the apparatus can be performed by the user himself without relying on a service person, so that the maintainability can be remarkably improved. 2. Description of the Related Art Some image forming apparatuses adopting a process cartridge system are shipped with a process cartridge attached to the image forming apparatus main body when the image forming apparatus main body is shipped. Here, when using a process cartridge in which the photosensitive member and at least the developing device are integrated, the process cartridge in a state where the photosensitive member and the developing roller are arranged to face each other with a gap is mounted on the image forming apparatus main body. , Shipped and transported. Also in this case, the surface of the photoreceptor may be damaged for the same reason as described above, and an abnormal image such as a black spot may occur at the time of arrival.
[0005]
In the process cartridge system, a replacement process cartridge is similarly shipped in a state where the photosensitive member and the developing roller are arranged to face each other with a gap. Also in this case, the surface of the photoreceptor may be damaged due to the vibration or the impact due to the drop applied before it arrives at the user. Therefore, a photoconductor, a developing roller having spacer rollers at both ends that are in pressure contact with the photoconductor, and a sheet-like protection sandwiched between the spacer rollers and the photoconductor, having a length substantially covering the entire length of the photoconductor and the developing roller. A process cartridge having a member has been proposed (Patent Document 1).
[0006]
In the case of employing a process cartridge, the hand may touch the exposed surface of the photoconductor when the process cartridge is mounted on the main body, and may damage the photoconductor. In order to prevent the photosensitive member from being damaged at the time of such replacement, there is known a process cartridge provided with a sheet member for covering the exposed surface of the photosensitive member to protect the exposed surface of the photosensitive member. In this process cartridge, after the process cartridge is mounted on the image forming apparatus main body and before the image forming operation is started, the user pulls out the sheet member, so that the photoconductor is exposed and the image can be formed. Therefore, it is necessary for the user to pull out the sheet member. Further, there is a case where the image formation is started while the user inadvertently forgets to take the sheet member. Therefore, there has been proposed a configuration in which the configuration of the sheet member is improved so that there is no problem in each part in the apparatus main body even when the user forgets to remove the sheet member (Patent Document 2).

[Patent Document 1]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-19800 [Patent Document 2]
JP-A-8-272281
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the process cartridge of Patent Document 1, the user removes the sheet-like protection member by hand from the sheet-like protection member sandwiched between the photosensitive member and the developing roller. For this reason, a user needs time and effort before starting image formation. In addition, the user may inadvertently start image formation by attaching the sheet-shaped protection member while forgetting to remove it, which may cause a problem in each unit in the apparatus main body.
[0009]
The present invention has been made in view of the above background, and an object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus in which an image bearing member and a developer bearing member are shipped in a state where they are arranged so as to face each other with a gap therebetween. An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus in which the image carrier is hardly damaged from the time of arrival to the time of arrival, and can start image formation with good operability.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the invention according to claim 1 includes an image carrier, a latent image forming means for forming a latent image on the image carrier, and an image carrier having a gap with the image carrier. BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, an embodiment in which the present invention is applied to a laser printer (hereinafter, referred to as a “printer”) that is an electrophotographic image forming apparatus will be described.
First, an outline of the printer according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. In this printer, a charging device, an exposing device, a developing device, a transfer device, a cleaning device, and the like are sequentially arranged around a drum-shaped photosensitive member 1 as an image carrier. The charging device includes a charging roller 2 that contacts the photoconductor 1. The exposure device includes an optical writing unit 3 that irradiates a laser beam based on image information. The developing device includes a developing roller 4 as a developer carrier that is arranged to face the photosensitive member while maintaining an appropriate gap (hereinafter, referred to as a developing gap), and a developer accommodating section that accommodates the developer. I have. The transfer device includes a transfer roller 5 that contacts the photoconductor 1. Further, the cleaning device includes a cleaning blade 6 that contacts the photoconductor 1. Further, the image forming apparatus includes a paper feed tray 7 for storing transfer paper as a transfer body, a paper feed roller 8 as a paper feeder for feeding the transfer paper from the paper feed tray 7, and a registration roller pair 9. Further, the image forming apparatus includes a conveyance guide 11 that guides the transfer paper onto which the toner image has been transferred from the photoreceptor 1 after the transfer paper is separated from the photoconductor 1, and a fixing device 13 that fixes the toner to the transfer paper.
[0012]
In the printer configured as described above, the surface of the rotating photoconductor 1 is uniformly charged by the charging roller 2 and then irradiated with the laser beam of the optical writing unit 3 based on the image information, so that the latent image is formed on the photoconductor 1. Forming formation. Next, a toner image is formed by attaching charged toner from the developing roller 4 to the electrostatic latent image formed on the photoconductor 1. On the other hand, the transfer paper is conveyed from a paper feed tray 7 to a transfer section where the photoconductor 1 and the transfer roller 5 face each other via a paper feed roller 8 and a registration roller pair 9. Then, the toner image formed on the photoreceptor 1 is transferred to the transfer paper by applying a charge having a polarity opposite to that of the toner image on the photoreceptor 1 to the transfer paper by the transfer roller 5. Next, the transfer paper is separated from the photoreceptor 1, sent to the fixing device 13 by the transport guide 11, and the toner image is fixed on the transfer paper, and then discharged outside the machine. The residual toner on the photoconductor 1 that has not been transferred is removed from the photoconductor drum 1 by the cleaning blade 6. In such a printer, it is effective to narrow the developing gap in order to improve the image quality. Specifically, the developing gap is accurately maintained at a narrow developing gap of about 0.3 mm.
[0013]
Further, in the printer according to the present embodiment, the photosensitive member 1, the charging device, the developing device, and the cleaning device are integrated into a process cartridge 14, and the process cartridge 14 is detachable from the printer body. And FIG. 2 is an explanatory view showing that the process cartridge 14 can be attached to and detached from the main body. At the time of maintenance, the user opens the cover 15 of the main body, attaches and detaches the process cartridge 14 in the apparatus, and then mounts a new process cartridge 14 and closes the cover 15 to be in an operable state. As described above, in the apparatus using the process cartridge 14, the maintenance of the apparatus can be performed by the user himself without relying on the serviceman, so that the maintainability can be remarkably improved.
[0014]
The printer is shipped with the process cartridge 14 set so as to keep the developing gap at the specified value, mounted on the apparatus main body. At the time of transportation until the printer arrives at the user's place, an impact due to vibration or drop is applied to the printer, whereby the developing roller 4 may bend and come into contact with the photoconductor 1. For this reason, the surface of the photoconductor 1 may be damaged, and an abnormal image such as a black spot may be generated immediately after arrival. Therefore, at the time of shipment, a protective member for protecting the photoconductor 1 is sandwiched between the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4. Therefore, even if the developing roller 4 is bent by the impact of the printer during transportation, the photosensitive member 1 and the developing roller 4 are not directly contacted by the protective member, so that the surface of the photosensitive member 1 is hardly damaged. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the occurrence of an abnormal image due to a scratch on the surface of the photoconductor 1 at the time of arrival.
[0015]
FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the printer when the printer is shipped with the process cartridge 14 mounted on the printer body. A sheet member 16 as a protection member for protecting the photoconductor 1 is sandwiched between the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4. The sheet member 16 is sandwiched between the photoconductor 1 and the transfer roller 5, and the leading end of the sheet member 16 is placed on the transport guide 10. When the power is turned on, the printer performs a start-up operation (hereinafter, referred to as inching) in which at least the photosensitive member 1 and the transfer roller 5 rotate. Therefore, at the time of inching after the printer has arrived, the sheet member 16 is discharged out of the apparatus by the rotation of the photosensitive member 1 and the transfer roller 5 and the conveyance guide 10. Thereafter, normal image formation can be performed. This eliminates the need for the user to perform a cumbersome operation of removing the sheet member 16 before image formation. Further, the image formation can be started after the sheet member 16 is surely removed. The means for transporting the sheet member 16 is not limited to the above-described one, and a transport roller 12 for transporting the sheet member 16 may be provided as shown in FIG.
[0016]
When the charging roller 2 is used as the charging device as in the present embodiment, the sheet member 16 is interposed between the photosensitive member 1 and the developing roller 4 and also sandwiched between the photosensitive member 1 and the charging roller 2. Shipped in state. FIG. 5 is a schematic configuration diagram of a sheet member 16 sandwiched between the photosensitive member 1 and the charging roller 2. By doing so, not only can the photoconductor 1 be prevented from being scratched, but also the photoconductor can be prevented from being contaminated by the exudation of additives and the like from the charging roller 1, thereby preventing the occurrence of abnormal images due to contaminants.
[0017]
Further, it is preferable that the sheet member 16 has elasticity and a thickness at normal time before being sandwiched is larger than a developing gap between the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4. FIG. 6 shows the relationship between the thickness t of the sheet member 16 and the development gap Gap. When such a sheet member 16 is used, the photosensitive member 1 can be prevented from being damaged even when a strong impact is applied due to its elastic force.
[0018]
In addition, as shown in FIG. 7, a note may be written on the sheet member 16. Thus, even if a sheet is suddenly ejected during inching, the user is aware of the normal operation because of the precautionary statement, and can give a sense of security.
[0019]
As shown in FIG. 8, a claw portion 17 made of an elastic resin may be provided in the case of the process cartridge 14 as a holding mechanism for holding the leading end of the sheet member 16 in the discharge direction. The claw portion 17 lightly holds the leading end of the sheet member 16 in the discharge direction with a force smaller than the conveying force of the sheet member 16. In a printer shipped in such a state, when a conveying force is applied to discharge the sheet member 16 out of the machine at the time of inching at the time of turning on the power, the sheet member 16 bends as shown in FIG. As a result, the tip comes off the elastic claw portion 17. The leading end of the sheet member 16 comes to rest on the transport guide 10 and is discharged out of the apparatus by the transport guide 10 and the transport rollers 11. This prevents the leading end of the sheet member 16 from catching inside the printer when the process cartridge 14 is set or the like, and preventing the sheet member 16 from being ejected normally.
[0020]
In addition, by applying the present invention not only when the printer body is shipped but also when the replacement process cartridge 14 is shipped, it is possible to prevent damage during transportation of the replacement process cartridge 14 and to simplify the replacement operation. Can be. That is, when the replacement process cartridge 14 is shipped, the sheet member 16 is sandwiched between the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4. Then, before the initial image formation after the process cartridge 14 is mounted on the main body, inching is performed in which the photosensitive member 1 and the transfer roller 5 rotate. The sheet member 16 is discharged out of the apparatus by the rotation of the photosensitive member 1 and the transfer roller 5 during the inching and the conveyance guide 10. For this reason, even if the replacement process cartridge 14 receives an impact during transportation, the surface of the photoconductor 1 is hardly damaged. Therefore, occurrence of an abnormal image due to a scratch when the replacement process cartridge 14 is mounted can be suppressed. Further, there is no need for the user to perform the troublesome work of removing the sheet member 16 at the time of replacing the process cartridge 14. Further, the image formation can be started after the sheet member 14 is surely removed.
Further, by using the replacement process cartridge 14 provided with the claw portion 17 for holding the leading end of the sheet member 16 in the discharge direction, the sheet member 16 is caught inside the printer when the process cartridge 14 is replaced, and is not discharged properly during inching. Prevent that.
[0021]
The present invention is not limited to a printer employing the above-described process cartridge, but may be applied to a printer which is shipped in a state where the photosensitive member 1 and the developing device are mounted in the apparatus main body and set so as to maintain a developing gap. Can also be adapted. That is, the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4 of the developing device are maintained in the printer main body with a specified developing gap, and the main body is shipped with the sheet member 16 sandwiched in the developing gap. Then, the sheet member 16 is conveyed and discharged outside the apparatus at the time of inching before the image formation starts after the power is turned on when the printer arrives. Thereby, the same effect as above can be obtained.
[0022]
In the embodiment described above, the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4 are shipped with the developing gap maintained during image formation. However, the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4 are opposed to each other with a gap. It can be applied as long as it is shipped in a state where it is arranged. For example, a play of a bearing for supporting the shafts at both ends of the developing roller 4 on the side plate, wherein the interval changes when the developing roller 4 is driven for the first time, and a type in which the interval is switched between transporting and image forming operation by a special mechanism. Etc., and a similar effect can be obtained.
[0023]
As described above, according to the printer of the present embodiment, when the printer is shipped with the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4 arranged so as to face each other with a gap, the distance between the photoconductor 1 and the developing roller 4 is reduced. The sheet member 16 is interposed therebetween. This makes it difficult for the photoconductor 1 to be damaged even when subjected to an impact during transportation. Further, by conveying and discharging the sheet member outside the apparatus at the time of the start-up operation before the start of image formation, it is possible to start the image formation with good operability without having to remove the sheet by the user.
In addition, the sheet member 16 is shipped between the photosensitive member 1 and the developing roller 4 while being sandwiched between the photosensitive member 1 and the charging roller 2. By doing so, not only the photoconductor 1 is hardly damaged, but also the photoconductor contamination due to the exudation of the additive or the like from the charging roller 1 can be prevented, and the occurrence of an abnormal image due to the contaminant is prevented.
The sheet member 16 has elasticity and a thickness at normal time before being sandwiched is larger than a developing gap between the photosensitive member 1 and the developing roller 4. When such a sheet member 16 is used, even when a strong impact is applied due to its elastic force, the photosensitive member 1 can be hardly damaged.
Further, a note may be written on the sheet member 16. Thus, even if the sheet is suddenly ejected at the time of inching, the user can recognize that it is a normal operation by giving the notice to give a sense of security.
Further, as a holding mechanism for holding the leading end of the sheet member 16 in the discharge direction, a claw portion 17 made of an elastic resin is provided in a case of the process cartridge 14. The claw portion 17 lightly holds the leading end of the sheet member 16 in the discharge direction with a force smaller than the conveying force of the sheet member 16. Then, when a conveying force for discharging the sheet member 16 to the outside of the machine is applied, the sheet member 16 is detached from the claw portion 17 and discharged to the outside of the machine. This prevents the leading end of the sheet member 16 from catching inside the printer when the process cartridge 14 is set or the like, and preventing the sheet member 16 from being ejected normally.
Further, the photosensitive member 1 and at least the developing device are integrally formed as a process cartridge 14, and the process cartridge 14 is configured to be detachable from the printer main body. In the case where the process cartridge 14 is used, maintenance of the apparatus can be performed by the user himself without relying on a service person, so that the maintainability can be remarkably improved. The present invention can be applied not only when the printer body is shipped, but also when the replacement process cartridge 14 is shipped. Accordingly, the photoconductor is less likely to be damaged when the replacement process cartridge 14 is transported, and the replacement operation can be easily performed.
