電動圧縮機は、モータに圧縮機を連結し、モータの駆動力により圧縮機を回転駆動して冷媒を圧縮するように構成され、上記のモータおよび圧縮機が密閉したケーシングに収納されて1ユニットとされる。
このような電動圧縮機においては、モータを冷却すべく、圧縮機で圧縮される前の冷媒がモータ部を通過するようにしている。すなわち、ケーシングの冷媒の吸入口と圧縮機は、それぞれモータの両側に設置し、吸入口からの冷媒は、モータ部を通過して圧縮機に吸入されるようになっている。冷媒はモータ部を通過する際には、モータから熱を奪い、モータの冷却を行う。

このため本発明は、流体を圧縮する圧縮機と、ステータ及び前記ステータ内で回転する回転子を有し前記圧縮機を駆動するモータと、前記圧縮機および前記モータを収納するケーシングとを有し、前記モータは、前記圧縮機と直列に前記ケーシング内に収納されるとともに、前記モータのステータは前記ケーシング内に固定され、前記モータの回転子は前記圧縮機の回転軸に連結され、前記ステータ内で回転可能に支持され、前記ケーシングには、前記モータのステータを挟んで前記圧縮機の反対側に吸入口が設けられた電動圧縮機において、前記ケーシングのモータに対応する部分の内側壁に窪みを形成し、該窪みは、軸方向に沿って前記ステータの両端面より外方に伸びており、前記窪みと前記ステータの外周面とで形成される空間が、前記モータを挟んで、前記吸入口と前記圧縮機をつなぐ流体の連通路を形成するものとした。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態について説明する。
図1は本発明を適用した電動圧縮機の縦断面図で、後で掲げる図2におけるB−B断面を示している。
電動圧縮機1はそのケーシング2がフロントケース5、センタケース3およびリヤケース4の3部材から構成されている。
センタケース3は筒状で、その一方の開口側にコイル12を備えたステータ11が焼きばめによって固定されている。

ロータ25はその回転軸27を後側ではリヤサイドブロック40の支持穴41に支持され、前側ではフロントサイドブロック30の支持穴31に支持されている。
