Abstract
Description
【0001】
(Direct Methanol

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an electronic device having a fuel cell, and more particularly, to an information electronic device using a fuel cell of a type that directly oxidizes methanol.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Fuel cells have high energy efficiency because they directly extract electric energy electrochemically from fuel, and have the advantage that they are easy to harmonize with the environment because water is the main substance of emissions. Attempts have been made to apply it to information electronic devices and the like. Above all, in information electronic devices, attention has been paid to a power source capable of continuous operation for a long time instead of a lithium battery, and various information electronic devices equipped with a fuel cell have been devised.
[0003]
For example, there is an information electronic device equipped with a fuel cell made of a hydrogen absorbing alloy (see Patent Document 1) and an information electronic device using methanol as fuel (see Patent Document 2).
[0004]
Among the fuel cells that use methanol as fuel, a method that directly oxidizes liquid methanol to extract electricity, a so-called direct methanol fuel cell (Direct Methanol fuel cell)
A fuel cell (hereinafter referred to as a DMFC) does not require auxiliary equipment such as a reformer as compared with a stacked fuel cell, and thus has an advantage that a battery system can have a relatively simple configuration.
[0005]
Further, the cathode requires oxygen as fuel, and air containing oxygen is usually used.
[0006]
[Patent Document 1]
JP-A-9-213359 (p3, FIG. 1)
[Patent Document 2]
JP-A-2002-49440 (p3-4, FIG. 2)
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Generally, in a fuel cell, a larger output can be obtained when the cell area, that is, the electrode area is larger. However, since the cell area of the fuel cell is limited by the size of the electronic device to be mounted, a structure for obtaining a larger output with the same volume is required.
[0008]
Therefore, the present invention takes in air from at least two surfaces of the fuel cell housing and supplies fuel from inside the housing, instead of taking in air from one surface of the fuel cell housing and generating power as in the related art. Use a fuel cell with a structure.
[0009]
In order to mount such a fuel cell in an electronic device, it is necessary to simultaneously supply air to the air intake surface of the housing of the fuel cell in a power supply state.
[0010]
An object of the present invention is to mount a fuel cell having a structure for taking in air from at least two surfaces of a housing in an electronic device.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
Therefore, the fuel cell mounted on this electronic device is not installed in the electronic device as in the conventional case, but a space for introducing air is provided between the fuel cell and the electronic device, and the fuel cell is opposite to the electronic device of the fuel cell. The side of the fuel cell is also installed so that it is exposed to the surrounding air.

This facilitates maintenance such as when the fuel cell needs to be replaced due to a defect.
