本発明は電子写真方式を用いた複写機、プリンタ、ファクシミリ、それらの複合機などの画像形成装置に関し、特に、画像形成装置本体下部に並列に設けた記録紙収納手段からの給紙における紙詰まりを処理する機構を有する画像形成装置に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
画像形成装置における記録紙使用量の増大に伴い、本体下部に記録紙を多段に収容した画像形成装置が提案されたが、収容できる記録紙枚数が装置本体の高さで制限されてしまうため、記録紙収納手段を記録紙の搬送方向に対して並列に設け、それぞれの記録紙収納手段から給紙できるようにして、記録紙の収容枚数を増加できるようにした画像形成装置が例えば特許文献1乃至4に示されている。

そのため、特許文献1に示された画像形成装置を図4に基づいて簡単に説明すると、複写機100の本体底部にカセット102が取付けられており、このカセット102には、記録紙の第1シート積載部103と第2シート積載部104とが並列して設けられている。そして、第1シート積載部103に積載されたシートは、ピックアップローラ105によりピックアップされ、ガイド106により形成される第1パスを経て搬送ローラ107により中継されて、レジストローラ108のニップ部にシートの先端を当接して撓ませ、姿勢が規制されるようになっている。そして、感光体ドラム110に形成された潜像は現像機111によって現像され、感光体ドラム110とタイミングを合せて搬送されるシート上にトナー像が転写された後、搬送部113を経て定着機114で定着され、排紙ローラ115によって排紙トレイ116上に画像を上向きにして排出される。

そして両面複写の場合は、シートが排紙ローラ115によって排紙トレイ116上に排出されているとき、シートの後端がフラッパ117を通過した時に排紙ローラ115を反転すると共に、フラッパ117を時計回りに回転させ、シート後端を先頭にしてパス118を下降させる。そして搬送ローラ119、120によって両面パス121に搬送し、更に再給紙ローラ122によって再びレジストローラ108にシートを送り、前記同様に排紙トレイ116に裏面を表にして排出する。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながらこの特許文献1乃至4に記載された画像形成装置においては、左側の第2記録紙収納手段(第2シート積載部)104からピックアップローラ131によってピックアップされ、ガイド132で形成された第2パスを経て両面パス121に給紙された記録紙が、紙詰まり等によって搬送路中、特に第2記録紙収納手段104と両面パス121における搬送ローラ120の両方のローラに噛み合った状態で停止して紙詰まりした場合、紙詰まりの処理を行うことが非常に困難となる。

最初に図1に基づいて本発明になる画像形成装置を説明すると、本発明の画像形成装置1は本体下部に、記録紙の搬送方向に対して下流側(図上右側)に第1記録紙収納手段2と上流側(図上左側)に第2記録紙収納手段3が並列に設けられ、更に必要に応じてこれら第1、第2記録紙収納手段2、3の下部に、第3記録紙収納手段4、第4記録紙収納手段5が設けられる。そしてこれら記録紙収納手段2〜5には、収容された記録紙をピックアップするためのピックアップローラ6〜9が設けられ、第1記録紙収納手段2からピックアップされた記録紙は搬送ローラ10で、第2記録紙収納手段3からピックアップされた記録紙は搬送ローラ11から搬送ガイド42に設けられた搬送ローラ12、13と14、15を経由して、そして第3、第4の記録紙収納手段4、5からピックアップされた記録紙は搬送ローラ16、17を経由して共通搬送ガイド18に送り出され、さらに搬送ローラ19、20を経由してレジストローラ21に達する。一方、感光体ドラム22を帯電、露光することで形成された潜像は現像装置23によって現像されてトナー像となり、レジストローラ21を経由して送られてきた記録紙に転写装置24によって転写された後、搬送部25を経て定着装置26で定着されて排出ローラ27によって図示しない排紙トレイ上に排出される。

そして両面画像形成を行う場合は、両面切り換え装置28が反時計回りに回動し、排出ローラ27側の通路をふさぐと共に両面パス29側の通路を開ける。そのため記録紙は搬送ローラ30によって両面パス29を下降し、搬送ローラ32で両面ユニット31に送られる。そして、今度は搬送ローラ32が逆回転して記録紙を両面ユニット31から送り出し、搬送ローラ33、34、35、36を介して再搬送路を構成する搬送ガイド42へ、そして搬送ローラ37、38から共通搬送ガイド18へと送り、レジストローラ21から感光体ドラム22に達すると前記と同様にして画像が転写され、定着装置26で定着されて排出ローラ27を介して排出される。

このように構成した画像形成装置1において、第2記録紙収納手段3に収容された記録紙は、前記したようにピックアップローラ7によって取り出され、搬送ローラ11を介して搬送ガイド41の搬送ローラ12〜15によって共通搬送ガイド18に送り込まれる。しかし、記録紙が搬送ローラ11と搬送ガイド41の搬送ローラ12、13の間にまたがるか、もしくは搬送ガイド41内で詰まったときは、両面ユニット31、再搬送路を構成する搬送ガイド42、第2記録紙収納手段から引き出された記録紙の搬送ガイド41における上側ガイド部材から構成される引き出しユニット40を、一緒に記録紙搬送方向に対して直角方向(すなわち図面に垂直な方向)に引き出す。すると、搬送ガイド41の下側ガイド部材、すなわち搬送ローラ13、15の部分は画像形成装置本体に残り、上側ガイド部材が引き出される。そのため、搬送ローラ11と搬送ガイド41の搬送ローラ12、13の間にまたがるか、もしくは搬送ガイド41内で詰まった記録紙は、容易に取り除くことができる。なお、搬送ローラ13、15のローラ軸を、引き出しユニット40を挿入したときに押圧されるレバーなどによって搬送ローラ13、15と搬送ローラ12、14とが噛み合う方向に移動させ、引き出しユニット40の引き出しによってこのレバーの押圧を解除して、搬送ローラ13、15と搬送ローラ12、14との噛み合いが解除される方向に移動させるように構成するなどし、引き出しユニット40を引き出すときは、搬送ガイド41に設けられた搬送ローラ12、13と14、15の噛み合いを解除できるようにすることが好ましい。

以上記載の如く本発明によれば、両面ユニットと再搬送路を構成する搬送ガイドと、第2記録紙収納手段用の搬送ガイドの再搬送路側ガイド部材を一緒に記録紙搬送方向に対して直角方向に引き出せるようにすることにより、第2記録紙収納手段用の搬送ガイド上部と下部を分離できるから、第2記録紙収納手段と搬送ガイド間で詰まった記録紙は容易に取り除くことが可能となる。
