[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, since these conventional screens are large and expensive, the system itself has not been widely used for individuals. Also, in a system having an image display device constructed for the purpose of obtaining a virtual experience in a game or vocational training, etc., it is also important to enhance a system user's immersion in a virtual space by an image projected on a screen. is there. In addition, when there are two viewers of the image projected on the screen, it is important to devise so that the same image can be viewed at the same time without regard to each other. Further, even if there is distortion in the image projected on the screen, it is necessary to take measures to prevent a viewer of the image from feeling uncomfortable due to the presence of the distortion in the image.
[0005]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide an image display device for individuals, which is configured to obtain a high immersion feeling for images, a structure of a screen constituting the same, and a method of manufacturing the same.
[0006]
Another object of the present invention is to provide an image display device that can simultaneously view the same image without regard to each other when two people view the image projected on the screen.
[0007]
It is an object of the present invention to provide a screen that does not give a viewer of the image a sense of incongruity due to the presence of the distortion even if the image projected on the screen has distortion.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The inventors of the present application have made various studies and found that a high immersion feeling can be obtained by covering the central viewing angle of a person who views an image projected on the screen with the screen.
[0009]
It was also found that the surface shape of the screen can be formed uniformly and with high contrast by applying a pile-shaped transparent powder by the electrostatic flocking method, regardless of the viewing direction of the image projected on the screen.
[0010]
In addition, it has been found that, in order to manufacture a screen, it is preferable to use a transparent thermoplastic material such as an acrylic resin as a base material of the screen and form a curved surface by a free blow method.
[0011]
In addition, one person is placed on each side of the screen so that the same image can be viewed from both sides of the screen, and one person can view the same image at the same time. It has been found that the same image can be viewed without worrying about the existence of each other.
[0012]
A dome-shaped screen portion and a flat screen portion in which an outer peripheral portion of the dome-shaped screen portion completely surrounds the dome-shaped screen portion are constituted. If the screen is configured so that it is continuously connected to the screen part, it can be seen that even if there is distortion in the image projected on the screen, the distortion is hardly perceived by the viewer of this image. Was.
[0013]
Therefore, according to the present invention, there is provided an image display device having the following configuration.
[0014]
First, in the case of a transmissive image display device, a transmissive screen (hereinafter simply referred to as a “transmissive screen”) that displays an image by transmitting image light projected from the projection device from one surface of the projection screen to the other surface of the projection screen Is a curved surface shape with the convex surface facing the side on which the projection device is installed. The position of the person who views the projected image (hereinafter sometimes simply referred to as “viewer”) is set on the opposite side of the transmissive screen from the projection device. This screen is arranged so as to cover the viewing angle of the viewer.
[0015]
On the other hand, in the case of a reflection type image display device, a reflection type screen (hereinafter simply referred to as a “reflection type display device”) in which image light projected from a projection device is made incident on one surface of a projection screen and reflected by the surface to display an image. The screen may be referred to as “screen.”) With a concave surface facing the projection device installed side. The position of the viewer is set on the same side as the projection device with respect to this reflective screen. This screen is arranged so as to cover the viewing angle of the viewer.
[0016]
Further, a part of the energy of the image light projected from the projection device is transmitted from the surface of the projection screen where the projection device is installed to the other surface, and the remaining energy of the image light is installed in the projection device. A semi-transmissive screen (hereinafter simply referred to as a “semi-transmissive screen”) that reflects light on a side surface to display a reflected image on the side on which the projection device of the projection screen is installed and a transmissive image on the other surface In the case of a transmission / reflection type image display device provided with the above, the image display device is configured as follows.
[0017]
That is, the anticipated position of the first person who views the reflected image projected on the transflective screen is set on the side where the projection device is installed with respect to the transflective screen, and is projected on the transflective screen. The second person who views the transmitted image is set on the opposite side to the projection device with the semi-transmissive screen interposed therebetween, and the first person and the second person sit at the respective expected positions. Sometimes, the first person and the second person are set to face each other based on the positional relationship covering the central viewing angles of the first person and the second person who see the transmission image and the reflection image, respectively. That is, this screen is arranged so as to cover the field of view of the first person or the second person as a viewer.
[0018]
On the surface of the above-mentioned transmission screen or reflection screen, a light-scattering layer formed by flocking a transparent pile powder that scatters light, with the major axis of the transparent pile aligned in a direction orthogonal to the screen surface. Is preferably formed.
[0019]
Further, in the above-mentioned reflective screen, it is preferable to form a reflective film or a semi-transmissive film between the substrate constituting the screen and the light scattering layer. Further, the surface of the above-mentioned transmission type or reflection type screen is preferably formed by an electrostatic flocking method. Further, in order to make the above-mentioned transmission type, reflection type or semi-transmission type screen into a curved surface shape, it is preferable to process the base material of these screens into a curved surface shape by a free blow method.
[0020]
According to the present invention, since the screen has a structure that covers the viewing angle of the viewer, there is an effect that an immersive feeling to the image can be obtained. In addition, since the surface processing of the screen is performed by the electrostatic flocking method, the surface of the screen can be a diffusion scattering surface (scattering in which the intensity of the scattered light does not depend on the traveling direction of the scattered light). As a result, the image projected on the screen can be uniformly high-contrast and clear up to the peripheral portion of the screen.
[0021]
A dome-shaped screen portion and a flat screen portion in which an outer peripheral portion of the dome-shaped screen portion completely surrounds the dome-shaped screen portion are constituted. Is connected continuously, even if there is some distortion in the image projected on the dome-shaped screen portion, the viewer hardly feels this distortion.
[0022]
Further, if a transparent acrylic material is used as the base material of the screen and the curved surface structure is formed by a free blow method, it is suitable for mass-producing a screen having a size suitable for personal use.
[0023]

The transmitted light is transmitted to the other surface, and the remaining energy of the image light is reflected by the surface on which the projection device is installed, and the reflected image is reflected on the surface of the projection screen on which the projection device is installed. In order to have a function as a semi-transmissive screen for displaying the image on the other side and displaying the transmission image on the other surface, in the structure shown in FIG. % Is preferred.
[0039]
With the above-described configuration of the transmission / reflection screen, a transflective screen that displays a reflection image on the surface of the projection screen on which the projection device is installed and a transmission image on the other surface is provided. be able to.

The light transmitting and reflecting surface is provided with a light scattering layer formed by implanting a transparent pile powder that scatters the light in such a manner that the major axis of the transparent pile is aligned in a direction perpendicular to the screen surface. Preferably.
[0041]
(Processing method of screen surface)
Electrostatic flocking (electrostatic flocking) is a construction method also called flocking. In this method, a pile is anchored vertically on a substrate to which an adhesive has been applied in advance, basically using electrostatic force in a high-voltage electrostatic field, and then the adhesive is dried and solidified, and the pile that has been anchored is placed on the surface of the substrate. It is intended to be fixed. The principle of anchoring the pile vertically on the substrate is as follows.
[0042]
When a DC voltage is applied between the electrodes of the parallel plate, and a so-called electrodeposited pile is placed on one of the electrodes to efficiently charge and fly one by one, the pile is charged. . When the charged pile is placed between the electrodes of the parallel plate, the pile is rotated by the Coulomb force in such a manner that the axis of rotation of the pile is oriented in a direction parallel to the electric field, and the pile flies to the electrode plate having the opposite sign to the charged electricity. The pile that has reached the electrode plate with the opposite sign is charged with an electric charge with the opposite sign to the electric charge before flying to this electrode plate, and then flies in the opposite direction. If the adhesive of the base material to be processed during this reciprocating motion is applied and set between the electrodes, the flying pile can be anchored on the adhesive layer.
[0043]
Examples of the adhesive include acrylic, urethane, epoxy, and vinyl acetate adhesives. When acrylic is used for the base material, it is preferable to use an acrylic adhesive.
[0044]
In the transmission type image display device shown in FIG. 1, as described above, the viewing angle θ is set so as to be about 40 ° to 50 °. Therefore, the light rays traveling from the peripheral portion of the image projected on the

(Processing method of screen base material)
In order to process the base material of the transmission screen and the reflection screen into a curved structure, a free blow method is preferably used. The processing method of these screen base materials by the free blow method will be described with reference to FIG. 5A and 5B are cross-sectional views of an apparatus for performing free blow.

According to this method, it is suitable for mass-producing a screen substrate having a screen diameter (diameter of a circle formed by a closed curve forming the outer edge of the screen) of about 1 to 2 meters. Therefore, a preferable screen used for a display device for personal use can be manufactured. When the acrylic plate is heated and compressed air is supplied, the radius of curvature after processing the acrylic plate can be easily controlled by adjusting the supply amount of compressed air, so the viewing angle θ required for the display device to be manufactured is optimized It is easy to set it to a value. For this reason, even when mass-producing the display device, it is possible to individually cope with a small design order such as a value of a viewing angle θ, and it is possible to cope with a custom use at a manufacturing stage while being a mass-produced product. There are certain advantages of the method.

[0052]
Since one of the objects of the present invention is to provide a small-sized image display device for individuals, it is preferable to process the screen base material by a free blow method. This is because, with the free blow method, it is difficult to process a base material capable of producing a large screen having a screen diameter of several meters or more. However, apart from the purpose of providing a small image display device for individuals, even if it becomes necessary to produce a large screen for a larger screen by the free blow method, as described above, a plurality of curvature radii are required. It can be realized by a method of laminating screens.
[0053]
In the above-described embodiment, an acrylic plate was used as the screen substrate, but it was a colorless and transparent material with respect to light in the visible light region, and it was not necessary to use an acrylic plate as long as it was a thermoplastic material. Polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyolefin, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylidene chloride, polystyrene, polyamide, polycarbonate, polysulfone, fluororesin, polyacrylonitrile, polyethersulfan, polybutadiene and the like may be used. In addition, although nylon is used for the transparent pile, the material can be processed into a filament form and can be planted by an electrostatic flocking method. Any material that is colorless and transparent to light in the visible light region is not limited to nylon, and polyester, rayon, Polychloral or the like may be used.

A transmissive screen used in the above-mentioned transmissive image intensifying display device (first embodiment), reflective image display device (second embodiment), and transmissive / reflective image display device (third embodiment). , The reflective screen and the transflective screen each have a dome shape, not a plane shape. Therefore, unless a mechanism for correcting distortion is provided, an image projected and formed on these screens has distortion.
[0065]
The dome shape refers to, for example, a shape of a curved surface cut out by cutting a part of a spherical surface by a plane. Of course, the shape is not limited to a spherical surface, but may be a dome shape including a curved surface formed by cutting out a part of a curved surface such as a paraboloid of revolution or a hyperboloid of revolution. The above-described curved surface has a curve shape of a cross section cut by a plane including a normal line of the curved surface, and an intersection point between the normal line and the curved surface becomes a maximum point, and a curved shape of a cross section cut by a plane including the normal line. Is characterized by a bow shape. Hereinafter, a screen having a dome shape is sometimes referred to as a dome screen.

The above-described image distortion will be described with reference to FIGS. FIG. 8A is a diagram illustrating a state in which an

That is, when an image is projected on a normal flat screen, the shape that defines the periphery of the image is a square or a rectangle, whereas when the image is projected on a dome screen, the shape that defines the periphery of the image is formed. Means that the sides of the square or rectangle are distorted in the shape of an arc as shown in the figure.
[0068]
In order to correct this distortion, a lens system that constitutes the projection device is devised, or an image is corrected using a computer so that the image to be projected is corrected on the assumption that the image is projected on a dome screen in advance. There are means. However, all of these measures or means involve high costs. In addition, if means for performing image correction using the latter computer is used, when an existing image is used, the above-described image processing must be performed once, which requires much time and effort.
[0069]
If the shape of the periphery of the image projected on the screen is distorted as shown in FIG. 8A, the viewer who sees this image often feels strange. One way to alleviate such discomfort is to keep the shape of the periphery of the image projected on the screen from being conscious. For this purpose, as shown in FIG. 8B, a method of projecting the image on the dome-shaped screen so that the

[0071]
Therefore, as a result of examination by the inventor, the dome-shaped screen portion and the outer peripheral portion of the dome-shaped screen portion have a flat screen portion so as to completely surround the dome-shaped screen portion. If the projection screen is configured such that the screen part having the shape and the flat screen part are continuously connected, the image projected on the screen will not be distorted by a viewer of the image even if the image has distortion. Turned out to be hardly felt.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the image display device of the present invention, the screen is arranged so as to cover the viewing angle of the viewer, so that the viewer can view the virtual space projected on the screen. High immersion feeling can be obtained.
[0085]
In addition, one person is placed on each side of the screen so that the same image can be viewed from both sides of the screen, and one person can view the same image at the same time. According to the image display device configured to be able to perform the same, the two can see the same image without regard to each other.
[0086]
A dome-shaped screen portion and a flat screen portion in which an outer peripheral portion of the dome-shaped screen portion completely surrounds the dome-shaped screen portion are constituted. Since the screen is configured so as to be continuously connected to the screen unit, even if there is a distortion in the image projected on the screen, a person who views this image hardly feels the distortion.
[0087]
Further, since the screen surface is processed by the electrostatic flocking method, it can be easily formed so that light scattering on the screen surface occurs isotropically. Further, since the screen base material is processed by the free blow method, a compact image display device for individuals can be supplied with good mass productivity.
