Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical transmission system that modulates modulated light with an analog signal such as a wireless signal and transmits the modulated light using an optical fiber, and an optical transmission device and an optical reception device used in the optical transmission system.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, communication systems that transmit analog signals as they are analog have been reviewed. Among them, an optical analog transmission system using an optical fiber, which can realize broadband transmission with a small loss, has attracted attention.
[0003]
In this type of optical transmission system, a laser diode (LD) is often used as an electric / optical conversion element. The ratio of the width over which the diode operates linearly to the width of the input amplitude is referred to as modulation. If the degree of modulation exceeds 1, the excess waveform component is clipped, and the input waveform is output with distortion. Therefore, usually, the modulation degree must be set to 1 or less, and the dynamic range of the input wave is determined by the limitation of the amplitude of the input wave.
[0004]
In a communication system, a high modulation efficiency is required, so that a modulated signal has a complicated waveform, and a wide dynamic range is required because the signal is an analog signal. However, in order to secure a wide dynamic range, there is a disadvantage that a linear operating range is wide and therefore an expensive laser diode must be used.
[0005]
There are the following Patent Literatures 1 to 3 as known literatures that disclose a technique for controlling an electric / optical conversion element. In each document, it is described that the bias of the electric / optical conversion element on the transmission side is fixedly set to an appropriate value at an initial setting stage prior to communication.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As described above, conventionally, it is necessary to operate a laser diode at a modulation factor of 1 or less in order to prevent distortion of an optical signal, and an expensive device must be used to obtain a wide dynamic range. is there.
[0010]
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide an optical transmitter, an optical receiver, and an optical transmission system capable of transmitting an optical signal in a wide dynamic range at a low cost.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, an optical transmission device according to the present invention has a linear operation region having a predetermined width with respect to a given drive signal, and the drive signal is supplied in a state where a bias voltage added to the drive signal is applied. An electric / optical conversion element for outputting intensity-modulated light according to the following, and a baseband signal including transmission information, whose peak-to-peak width is made wider than the linear operation region, as the drive signal; The control device includes a PP width control means for applying to the element and a bias modulation means. Then, the bias voltage is adjusted by the bias modulating means in accordance with the intensity change of the baseband signal so that the drive signal given from the PP width control means to the electric / optical conversion element falls within the linear operation region. The modulation is performed.
[0012]
The optical receiving apparatus according to the present invention is an optical receiving apparatus that receives intensity-modulated light that is intensity-modulated according to a baseband signal. Converts the intensity change of the incident light into an electric signal in a state where is applied, and includes a light / electric conversion element into which the intensity modulated light is incident, and a bias control means. The bias voltage is variably controlled by the bias control means in accordance with the waveform change of the intensity-modulated light, and the baseband signal superimposed on the intensity-modulated light is reproduced by the optical / electrical conversion element. It is characterized by the following.
[0013]
By taking such means, the peak-to-peak width of the baseband signal is made wider by the PP width control means, for example, than the width of the region in which the laser diode operates linearly, and given to the laser diode as the drive signal. Can be At this time, the bias voltage is dynamically modulated in intensity according to the intensity change of the baseband signal so that the drive signal falls within the linear operation region.
[0014]
Accordingly, the drive signal is applied so as to fall within the linear operation region of the laser diode, even though the modulation factor exceeds 1. Therefore, the original waveform is transmitted to the optical receiver without distortion. In the optical receiving device, a bias voltage synchronized with the bias modulation in the optical transmitting device is applied to the optical / electrical conversion element. Therefore, the baseband signal is reproduced with the original waveform.
[0015]
With such a configuration, it is possible to remove the restriction that the modulation factor should be set to 1 or less, and to achieve a wide dynamic range even if an electric / optical conversion element or an optical / electrical conversion element whose linear operation range is not so wide is used. A range can be secured. Therefore, it is possible to transmit an optical signal at low cost and with a wide dynamic range.
