Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a color image forming apparatus that draws an image with a beam in a color printer, a color copying machine, a color facsimile machine, or the like.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, color image forming apparatuses such as color printers and color copiers have been required to improve output image quality.
[0003]
In particular, the gradation of the density and its stability have a great effect on judging the quality of an image.
[0004]
However, in a color image forming apparatus, if there is a change in the environment such as temperature or humidity or a change in each part of the apparatus due to long-term use, the density of an obtained image fluctuates.
[0005]
In particular, in the case of an electrophotographic color image forming apparatus, it is necessary to have a means for always maintaining a constant density-gradation characteristic, since even a slight environmental change may cause a change in density and a color balance may be lost. .
[0006]
Therefore, for each color toner, there are several kinds of process conditions such as exposure amount and developing bias according to the absolute humidity, and gradation correction means such as a look-up table (LUT). Based on the above, the process conditions and the optimum value of the gradation correction at that time are selected.
[0007]
In addition, a test pattern for density detection is formed on an intermediate transfer member or a drum using toner of each color so that a constant density-gradation characteristic can be obtained even if a change in each part of the apparatus occurs. The density of the pattern is detected by a density detection sensor for unfixed toner (hereinafter referred to as density sensor), and based on the detection result, feedback is applied to the process conditions such as the exposure amount and the developing bias to control the density. It is also configured to obtain
[0008]
In addition, the transfer efficiency in transferring the toner image to the transfer material, and the color balance also changes due to the heating and pressurization due to fixing, which affects the determination of the quality of the image.
[0009]
The density control using the above-described density sensor is to form and detect a pattern (hereinafter, also referred to as a patch) on an intermediate transfer member or a drum, and to perform subsequent transfer to a transfer material such as paper and the like. Changes in the color balance of an image due to fixing are not controlled and cannot be dealt with.
[0010]
Accordingly, a gray test pattern (hereinafter referred to as a gray patch) of black (K) and a process gray test pattern (hereinafter, referred to as a “gray patch”) of cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y) are mixed on a transfer material. Process gray patch), and by comparing the colors of both patches after fixing, it is possible to output a mixture ratio of CMY that makes the process gray patch achromatic. An image forming apparatus provided with a sensor (hereinafter, referred to as a color sensor) for detecting a color of a patch has been considered.
[0011]
In this image forming apparatus, the detection result is (1) an exposure amount and a process condition of the image forming unit, (2) a color matching table for converting an RGB signal of the image processing unit into a color reproduction range of the image forming apparatus, and (3) an image. The density of the final output image formed on the transfer material is fed back to a color separation table for converting the RGB signals of the processing unit into CMYK signals, (4) a calibration table for correcting density-gradation characteristics, and the like. Alternatively, chromaticity control can be performed.
[0012]
Although the output image of the image forming apparatus can be detected by an external image reading device or a chromaticity meter or a densitometer, and the same control can be performed, in the configuration using the color sensor as described above, a printer is used. Control can be completed within.
[0013]
This color sensor uses, for example, a light source that emits red (R), green (G), and blue (B) as a light emitting element, or a light source that emits white (W) and uses a light source that emits red (R), It is formed by forming three types of filters having different spectral transmittances such as green (G) and blue (B).
[0014]
As a result, an RGB output can be obtained.
[0015]
There are various control methods for controlling the density or chromaticity of the RGB output.
[0016]
For example, gamma characteristic control can be performed based on the measured density, and a color matching table and a color separation table can be corrected based on the measured chromaticity.
[0017]
In this way, higher image quality is achieved in the color image forming apparatus.
[0018]
On the other hand, color image forming apparatuses such as color printers and color copiers are also required to have higher speed.
[0019]
As one means of speeding up, scanning a plurality of lines simultaneously using a plurality of beams is performed.
[0020]
FIG. 12 is a schematic perspective view of a scanner optical system using a plurality of beams (two beams in the figure).
[0021]
[0022]
The plurality of
[0023]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when an image is formed by a plurality of beams, there is a case where there is a difference between the light amounts of the respective beams and a difference between the output light amounts with respect to the input signals.
[0024]
The light amount difference between the beams is caused by an adjustment error at the time of assembly and a difference in deterioration of each beam. Also, the difference in the output light amount with respect to the input signal of each beam is caused by a difference in laser responsiveness and a difference in the IC that outputs the PWM signal in the case of light amount modulation using pulse width modulation (PWM). In the case of light modulation using intensity modulation, it is caused by a difference between beams of the laser drive current adjustment circuit.
[0025]
Then, due to the difference in the light quantity of each beam and the difference in the output light quantity with respect to the input signal, the color may not match even if the color is corrected.
[0026]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been made to solve the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a color image forming apparatus having a scanning optical system of a plurality of beams with a color sensor for correcting color tone with high accuracy. And to provide a color image forming apparatus capable of realizing high image quality and high speed.
[0027]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention has achieved the above object by the following technical configuration.
[0028]

[0029]

[0030]
(3) Image formation in which an electrostatic latent image corresponding to image information is formed on a photoconductor by scanning a plurality of beams, and the electrostatic latent image is developed to obtain an image transferred and fixed on a transfer material. Means, a printing means for forming a tint detection pattern, a detection means for detecting the color of the tint detection pattern after being fixed on the transfer material, and a control means for controlling the density-gradation characteristics using the detection means Wherein the printing unit forms the tint detection pattern for each of the beams, and the control unit controls a density-gradation characteristic for each of the beams. Color image forming apparatus.
[0031]
(4) When it is necessary to change the density-gradation characteristics of each beam by a specific value or more, it is determined that an error has occurred, and an error processing unit that performs specific error processing is provided. The color image forming apparatus according to the item 3).
[0032]
(5) The color image forming apparatus according to (4), wherein the error processing unit is a re-detection processing unit that performs color detection and density-gradation characteristics again.
[0033]
(6) The color image forming apparatus according to (4), wherein the error processing unit is a notifying unit that notifies a laser failure.
[0034]
That is, conventionally, the color was measured on the assumption that there was no difference in the color detection result even if the composition ratio of each beam of the color detection pattern was different. With this configuration, the color tone corrected for the variation in density for each beam can be accurately detected by the detection unit.
[0035]
In addition, with the configuration of the above item (2), the restriction on the tint detection pattern can be reduced.
[0036]
Further, with the configuration of the above item (3), optimal control of density-gradation characteristics can be performed for each beam.
[0037]
Further, according to the configurations of the above items (4) to (6), in the configuration of the above item (3), when the density-gradation characteristics are different by a specific value or more, the density-gradation characteristics are controlled again. Or report a laser failure.

Furthermore, since the RGB output values continuously change with respect to the gradient, the RGB output values of adjacent gradients among the detected gradients are subjected to mathematical processing such as first-order approximation or second-order approximation. It is possible to calculate an estimated value of an RGB output value between adjacent gradients. Even when the absolute chromaticity cannot be detected because there is no absolute white reference, the RGB output value and the chromaticity estimation value of the gray tone patch by K and the CMY process gray tone patch are relatively compared to obtain a certain level. It is possible to calculate the mixing ratio of the three CMY colors of the process gray patch obtained by mixing the three colors of CMY such that the chromaticity is substantially the same as that of the gray patch based on the K of the adjustment.

[0110]
The image forming apparatus in the present embodiment expresses a gradation image by the number of pixels drawn by a beam within a certain area.
[0111]
Similarly, the
[0112]
As an example, a gray dither pattern is shown.
[0113]
FIG. 8 is a diagram illustrating a dither pattern of the

A-1 indicates the first scan of the beam A, B-1 indicates the first scan of the beam B, A-2 indicates the second scan of the beam A, and B-2 indicates the second scan of the beam B. Indicates the beam A, B indicates the beam B, and the number indicates the scanning number.
[0116]
Arrows indicate the scanning direction.
[0117]
Scanning with the same number indicates that scanning is performed simultaneously. For example, A-1 and B-1 are simultaneously scanned, and A-2 and B-2 are simultaneously scanned.
[0118]
In the same figure, squares filled with dots are pixels to be drawn, and squares not filled indicate that they are not drawn.
[0119]
Reference numeral 502 (4 pixels × 4 pixels surrounded by a thick line) is a minimum repeating unit of the pattern (hereinafter, also referred to as a unit pattern). The dither pattern is formed by repeating this minimum unit.
[0120]
Looking at the pixels in 502, in the example of FIG. 8, three pixels are drawn by the laser A, and three pixels are drawn by the laser B. As a result, the gray of the

[0122]
Therefore, even if the light intensity varies for each beam due to the variation in light intensity and pulse width, and the density of the pixels to be formed varies, the average density of each beam can be measured.
[0123]
Also, if the number of pixels to be drawn in the
[0124]
In this embodiment, the dither pattern of the
[0125]
A dither pattern of another color may be a pattern based on the same concept.
[0126]
However, since a different pattern is often used for each color so that moire when colors are superimposed hardly occurs, the unit pattern is not necessarily the same as the unit pattern of the
[0127]
In this embodiment, the pattern using the dither method has been described.
[0128]
However, the configuration of the patch is not limited to this. For example, the present invention is also effective for a pattern formed by so-called “solid” by pulse width modulation or light quantity modulation of a beam.
[0129]
The present invention is also effective in a method using another gradation expression method such as an error diffusion method.
[0130]
Further, in the present embodiment, the patch composed of the dither pattern formed by the binary of forming or not forming the dot has been described.
[0131]
However, the configuration of the patch is not limited to this. For example, the present invention is effective even for a dither pattern including halftone dots formed by pulse width modulation or light quantity modulation of a beam.
[0132]
In this case, the patch may be configured so that the light amount is the same for each beam in the entire patch.
[0133]
Alternatively, a patch may be configured so as to include halftone pixels having substantially the same density in almost the same ratio.
[0134]
With the above-described configuration, when reading a patch with the color sensor, it is possible to average out variations in density for each beam, and it is possible to read a tint with high accuracy and correct it with high accuracy.
[0135]
(Example 2)
Next, a second embodiment will be described.
[0136]
In the first embodiment, the tint detection pattern composed of a 4 × 4 dither matrix in a two-beam system has been described.
[0137]
In such a configuration, there is a limitation that a patch must be formed so that the composition ratio of the number of pixels to be drawn by each beam with respect to a unit pattern is the same, and the degree of freedom in forming a patch is reduced.
[0138]
Therefore, in the second embodiment, as a configuration in which the limit on the unit pattern of the patch that can be used is reduced, the color detection pattern is formed such that the number of lines in the transfer material transport direction of the unit pattern is relatively prime to the number of the beams. An example will be described.
[0139]
FIG. 9 is a diagram illustrating an example of the patch according to the present embodiment.
[0140]
Notations such as A-1 and B-1 have the same meaning as in the first embodiment.
[0141]
[0142]
507 is a pattern composed of 3 × 6 pixels.
[0143]
In this

Therefore, the
[0145]
However, in the
[0146]
As in this example, even if the number of pixels for each beam is different in the unit pattern, the condition that the number of pixels for each beam is the same when considering a pattern multiplied in the transfer material transport direction is as follows. The number of lines in the transport direction is relatively prime to the number of beams.
[0147]
When this condition is satisfied, considering the number of pixels obtained by multiplying the number of beams in the transfer material transport direction by the number of pixels of the unit pattern in the transfer material transport direction, the number of pixels drawn for each beam is the same regardless of the patch. Can be
[0148]
In the example shown above, 3 which is the number of pixels of the unit pattern in the transfer material transport direction has a prime relationship with 2 which is the number of beams. At this time, when the number of pixels in the transport direction is multiplied by the number of pixels in the transport material transport direction and the number of pixels is 6 (the number of lines is 6), the number of pixels to be drawn for each beam is the same regardless of the patch. .
[0149]
In the above example, the case where the beams A and B scan adjacently in the transport direction has been described. However, the case where scanning is not performed adjacent to the transfer material transport direction, for example, the case where two beams are opened and two lines are scanned. This is also effective for (two-beam skip scanning).
[0150]
This will be described with reference to FIGS.
[0151]
FIG. 10 is a diagram illustrating the interlaced scanning of two beams.
[0152]
In the 8 × 8 square in FIG. 10, each square represents a pixel.
[0153]
Notations such as A-1 and B-1 have the same meaning as in the first embodiment.
[0154]
[0155]
The beam scans at intervals of two lines in the paper scanning direction.
[0156]
Here, looking at the
[0157]
In such a case, if a dither pattern in which the number of lines of the unit pattern in the transfer material transport direction is, for example, 3 is formed so as to be mutually prime to 2 which is the number of beams, it is possible to detect the tint when viewed macroscopically. It is possible to set the number of pixels in the pattern to the same composition ratio for each of the beams (in contrast to this case, if a dither pattern having two or four lines as a unit in the transfer material transport direction is used, a unit pattern If the composition ratios are not the same, the composition ratios of beams A and B will not be the same no matter how many times they are.)
[0158]
FIG. 11 shows a specific example.

[0166]
With the above configuration, it is possible to form a color sensor pattern in which the restrictions on patches are reduced and the variation in density for each beam is averaged, and there is little restriction on image processing and color correction is performed with high accuracy. Can be.
[0167]
(Example 3)
In the third embodiment, a configuration will be described in which a tint detection pattern (patch) is formed for each beam and density-gradation correction is performed for each beam.
[0168]
Since the basic configuration is the same as the configuration described in the first embodiment, detailed description will be omitted.
[0169]
In this embodiment, a plurality of beams form separate patches.
[0170]
For example, consider a scanner having two beams as described in the first embodiment.
[0171]
Let each of the two beams be a beam A and a beam B.
[0172]
The gray patch A for the color sensor formed by the beam A is the gray patch A, the process gray patch for the color sensor formed by the beam A is the process gray patch A, the gray patch for the color sensor formed by the beam B is the gray patch B, The process gray patch for the color sensor formed by the beam B is referred to as a process gray patch B.
[0173]
Each patch is formed by the
[0174]
The image processing means 103 performs gamma correction based on the density-gradation characteristics of each of the gray patch A and the process gray patch A so that the gray patch A and the process gray patch A have substantially the same color.
[0175]
Similarly, the gray patch B and the process gray patch B are read by the
[0176]
If the correction value of the density-gradation characteristic of the beam A or the beam B is equal to or more than a specific value, a laser failure or the like may be considered.
[0177]
Thus, when the density-gradation characteristics of each beam differ by a specific value or more, an error may be determined and an error processing unit (not shown) may be operated.
[0178]
As the error processing unit, for example, a re-detection processing unit that determines that the detection and correction of the tint has failed, and performs the tint detection and the density-gradation characteristic again can be used.
[0179]
Alternatively, a panel or a notification device such as a terminal personal computer that can notify the user of the printer of a failure by emitting a display or sound can be used.
[0180]
With the above configuration, density-gradation correction can be performed for each beam, and a difference in characteristics for each beam can be corrected, so that the tint can be corrected with high accuracy.
[0181]
Further, when the density-gradation correction greatly differs for each beam, it is possible to notify a failure of a laser or the like or to perform the density-gradation correction again.
[0182]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, for a color image forming apparatus having a scanning optical system of a plurality of beams, color correction can be performed with high accuracy by a color sensor, and high image quality and high speed can be achieved. Can be provided.
[0183]
That is, according to the first and second aspects of the present application, in an image forming apparatus that forms an image with a plurality of beams, it is possible to correct the tint by averaging the variation for each beam, and to obtain a high-quality image. Can be obtained.
[0184]
Further, according to the third to sixth aspects of the present invention, in an image forming apparatus that forms an image with a plurality of beams, the tint can be corrected for each beam, and a high-quality image can be obtained. .
