Abstract
Description
【0001】

また、LEDヘッド6は、LPH503_1〜503_3(図2に示す)に相当する。
【0023】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical writing device that writes image information on a photoconductor by causing a light emitting element array to emit light.
[0002]
[Prior art]
An optical writing device that irradiates a photoreceptor with light to form a latent image employs a laser diode (LD) scanning method using laser light, and a light emitting element array including light emitting elements such as LEDs arranged in an array. Some employ a scanning method. This light emitting element array scanning method has high reliability because there is no movable part such as a polygon mirror in the LD scanning method. Also, in a wide-area printing machine that outputs a large-size print such as A0 size, a light-emitting element array scanning method can be realized by arranging an LED head in which an LED array and an optical element such as a SELFOC lens are integrated. Since the optical space for scanning the light beam in the direction is not required, the LD scanning method has been replaced with the light emitting element array scanning method in order to reduce the size of the entire apparatus.
[0003]
In addition, in a wide-area machine that performs large-format print output, when a long light emitting element array unit that is longer than the image writing width (maximum document width) is used, the number of LED element driver ICs to be used increases and the production yield decreases. Will drop. Further, since the light emitting element array unit is long, it is necessary to increase the component accuracy in order to maintain the arrangement accuracy of the write beam, and the unit cost of the component is higher than that of a small printer or copier. Further, since the light emitting element array unit is long, it is necessary to replace the unit when the light emitting element fails even for one dot.
[0004]
Therefore, the conventional optical writing device has a plurality of light emitting element array units for a low-priced small-sized printer or copier arranged in the main scanning direction to satisfy the image writing width in a wide-width machine (for example, see Patent Document 1). . Here, two or three LED heads are arranged along the axis of the photoreceptor, and divided exposure is performed. In order to correspond to the A0 width, three LED heads for the A3 width may be arranged in a zigzag manner in the main scanning direction, but no specific control method is described.
[0005]
Further, when a plurality of light emitting element array units are arranged in the main scanning direction and divided exposure is performed, image data is divided and transferred for each of the plurality of light emitting element array units, and the divided position in the main scanning direction (the light emitting element array unit is Some devices adjust the light amount of the light emitting element at the overlapping seam position (for example, see Patent Document 2). Here, when the light emission of one dot is multi-valued with 5 bits (32 values), the light amount of the light emitting element at the joint position is controlled by changing the light amount gradation of 32 steps. By such gradation control for each dot, it is possible to adjust the light amount so as to eliminate the uneven light amount of the white streak and the black streak at the joint position, that is, the pitch unevenness of the light emitting elements caused by the assembling accuracy at the joint position. .

[0007]
[Patent Document 2]
JP 2001-328292 A (FIGS. 1 and 4 etc.)
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in such a conventional optical writing device, since the gradation of one dot of image data is multi-valued, the light amount unevenness of the black streak and the white streak can be easily corrected by gradation control for each dot of the joint portion. However, there is a problem that such correction of light unevenness cannot be applied to a light emitting element of binary control.
[0009]
For example, in the binary image at one dot interval shown in FIG. 8A, the seams between the light emitting element array units 503_1 and 503_3 and the light emitting element array unit 503_2 overlap, and as shown in FIG. The seam dot a on the element array unit 503_2 side is binary data “1”, the seam dot b on the light emitting element array unit 503_1 side is binary data “0”, and the dot c adjacent to the seam dot b Is the binary data “1”, the seam dot b interferes with the dot c, the light amount increases, and a black streak occurs. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 8C, if the joint dot a is corrected to be “0” of the binary data, the light amount of the joint dot b decreases and white streaks occur. As described above, when the image data of one dot is represented by a binary value of “0” or “1”, generation of white streaks and black streaks due to uneven light amount of the joint portion is suppressed even when the joint light amount correction is controlled. It is not possible.
[0010]
The present invention has been made to solve such a problem, and provides an optical writing device capable of correcting unevenness in light amount at joints of a plurality of light emitting element array units when image data of one dot is binary. Things.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
An optical writing apparatus according to the present invention according to
With this configuration, for example, in an optical writing device having a binary LED head, one line of pixels (light emitting elements such as LEDs) between one line in the main scanning direction and a pixel (LED , Etc.) are controlled to emit light separately from each other, so that the print gradation at the joint portion is increased and uneven light amount is eliminated. In an optical writing device having a multi-value LED head, unevenness in the light amount at the seam position can be eliminated by correcting the brightness of the image data for the LED at the seam position. Even if the present invention is applied to an optical writing device, the brightness of the image data cannot be set to the light amount of the intermediate gradation.
[0012]
Further, in the optical writing apparatus according to the present invention according to
With this configuration, the lighting time of the light emitting element by the image data transferred between one line in the main scanning direction and the lighting time of the light emitting element by the image data of the joint between the light emitting element array units are separately set. Since the control is performed, the print gradation of the joint portion is increased, and the unevenness in the light amount is eliminated.
[0013]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the optical writing device according to the second aspect, the lighting time control unit is any one of the light emitting element array units that share the seam portion based on image data of a pixel at the seam portion. One or both lighting times are controlled.
According to this configuration, the image data of one or both of the joint positions between the light emitting element array units is controlled separately from the image data of one line in the main scanning direction. The tonality is increased, and the unevenness in light quantity is eliminated.
[0014]
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in the optical writing device according to the second or third aspect, the lighting time control unit performs an optical writing operation of a predetermined portion excluding the seam between the one line. Control the lighting time by fixing the duty ratio, and control the lighting time by changing the duty ratio according to the amount of overlap between the pixels in the seam for the light writing operation at the seam. It has the following configuration.
With this configuration, the lighting time by the image data of one line is fixed between one line in the main scanning direction, and the lighting time by the image data of the pixel (light emitting element) at the joint between the light emitting element array units is, for example, Since the duty ratio of the lighting time is set to be smaller when the pixel interval of the joint is shorter than the predetermined value than when the pixel interval is longer than the predetermined value, the print gradation of the joint is increased. As a result, the unevenness in the amount of light is eliminated.
[0015]
Further, the optical writing device according to the present invention according to
With this configuration, for example, when three light-emitting element array units are arranged in a so-called staggered manner and the pixel interval (included in the “size of the overlapping portion between pixels”) at two joints is different, one line Since the image data of the different seam portions is transferred twice between the light emitting elements, the light emitting element array is caused to emit light at a lighting duty ratio corresponding to the pixel interval, and the uneven light amount at the seam position can be eliminated.

The image data RAM units 514A_1 to 514A_3, 514B_1 to 514B_3 are configured by SRAM. As described above, the image signal input to the first IC 510 is latched and delayed inside the first IC 510, and the SRAM address signals ADRA (10.0) and ADRB (4) are output as a 4-bit signal “SRAMDI (3.0)”. 10.0.) In addition, as described above, the three LED heads 503_1 to 503_3 are arranged in a so-called staggered manner, and the LED heads 503_3 are mounted so as to be shifted by 1 mm in the sub-scanning direction with respect to the LED head 503_1. The LED head 503_2 is internally divided into 40 units of 192 LED arrays 590_1 to 590_40, and are arranged at equal intervals in the main scanning direction. Therefore, 192 × 40 = 7680 dots. Drivers 591_1 to 591_40 are connected to the respective LEDs. A strobe signal (STB) for turning on an LED for a specified time is connected as an input signal to the drivers 591_1 to 591_40, a clock signal (CLK) for data transfer, and a reset signal for starting data transfer. (RESET), a signal for selecting data, and a signal (LOAD) for switching between light amount correction and normal image data are also connected as input signals. The
[0043]
Further, an internal circuit configuration of the driver ICs 591_1 to 591_40 will be described with reference to FIG. Here, the driver IC 591_1 will be described as an example.

Next, a joint correction control method for an LED head according to the present embodiment will be described.
As described above, the LED heads 503_1 to 503_3 are arranged in a staggered manner in the axial direction of the
[0045]
On the other hand, in the present embodiment, in order to eliminate the uneven light amount at the joints of the LED heads 503_1 to 503_3, the LED lighting time when outputting the binary image data without controlling the gradation of the light amount correction data is set. , The dot data at the joint between the LED array units is corrected. FIG. 6 shows a one-line lighting image (one-dot interval lighting) of the LED heads 503_1 to 503_3, and particularly shows lighting control of a joint pixel of the LED head 503_2. Here, the data transfer direction of the LED heads 503_1 and 503_3 is opposite to the data transfer direction of the LED head 503_2.
[0046]
In FIG. 6A, the seam a1 and the seam a2 overlap by less than one dot between the LED heads based on the image effective widths L1 to L3 of each LED array. When dots a and b at the seam are printed in this state, the density of the superimposed portion at seams a1 and a2 increases, and black streaks appear in the image. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 6B, when the three LED heads 503_1 to 503_3 are simultaneously turned on three times from the first dot to the 7680th dot in one main scanning line, the LED is turned on at the first lighting. Pixels a and b at the seam of the head 503_2 are printed as white data "0", and in the second lighting, the pixel a at the seam a1 is black data "1" and the pixel b at the seam a2 is white data "0". At the third lighting, the pixel a at the seam a1 is printed as white data “0”, and the pixel b at the seam a2 is printed as black data “1”. The lighting time of the LED head 503_2 is controlled by an operation duty (DUTY) ratio control based on a lighting signal (STB) from the LED
[0047]
In FIG. 6, the image effective width L 1 , The approximate center of the rightmost pixel in the figure and the image effective width L 2 Of the pixel a at the left end in FIG. 1 ) Is the amount of overlap between pixels at the joint of the LED heads 503_1 and 503_2. Also, the image effective width L 2 , The approximate center of the pixel b at the right end in FIG. 3 And the distance from the approximate center of the pixel at the left end in the figure (interval l 2 ) Is the amount of overlap between pixels at the joint between the LED heads 503_2 and 503_3.
[0048]
Here, FIG. 7B shows an image density obtained by controlling the lighting time of the LED head according to the present embodiment.
In the present embodiment, at the first lighting, the binary image data within one main scanning line is transferred to the LED head, and at the second and third lightings, the binary image data of either the seam a1 or the seam a2 is obtained. By transferring the image data to the LED head and controlling the LED lighting time of the seam a1 or the seam a2 by the DUTY ratio in accordance with the amount of superposition of the pixels between the LED array units, the unevenness in the light amount at the seam portion (seam line) is obtained. Can be eliminated. That is, the degree of dot overlap at the seam a1 between the LED head 503_2 and the LED head 503_1 and the seam a2 between the LED head 503_2 and the LED head 503_1, that is, the overlap amount (l 1 <L 2 ), The lighting time of the LED head is controlled by the DUTY ratio so that the dot a at the seam a1 is smaller than the dot b at the seam a2, so that the binary image data has a gradation property, and the seams a1 and a2 Concentration can be made uniform. FIG. 7A shows the density of seams a1 and a2 printed by the conventional technique. According to FIG. 7A, it is understood that a black streak and a white streak are generated according to the interval between adjacent pixels of the seams a1 and a2.

[0050]
In the above-described embodiment, the case where the lighting time control of the LED head is applied to the left and right seam pixels overlapping the pixels of the other LED heads in the effective image range of the LED head 503_2 has been described. In addition, the same effect can be obtained even if the lighting time control of the LED head is applied to the joint pixels of the LED heads 503_1 and 503_3.
