Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile, and a multifunction peripheral thereof, and more particularly, to a space-saving technique of the image forming apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
[Patent Document 1] Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2001-322758 Conventionally, space saving of an image forming apparatus has been demanded. For example, in order to compactly store a discharge placement unit (discharge tray), it is disclosed in Patent Document 1. As described above, at least one pair of the plurality of discharge stacking means is disposed at a position facing each other with the discharge unit interposed therebetween, and each of the opposed discharge stacking means is disposed inside the maximum outer width of the apparatus main body. Such proposals have been made.
[0003]
By the way, color image forming apparatuses have been able to obtain high-quality images due to recent improvements in digitization and high definition. With the increase in image quality, attempts have been made to expand the color image forming apparatus using the electrophotographic method in the printing market and the photographic market. There is a strong demand for an image having no margin at the end (hereinafter, referred to as a borderless print).
[0004]
In order to form a borderless print, there are a method of forming an image with no margin from the beginning to the end of the sheet, and a method of forming an image with a margin at the end of the sheet and then cutting the margin.
[0005]
Here, in the method of forming an image with no margin from the beginning to the end of the sheet, it is necessary to transfer an image formed on an image carrier such as a photoreceptor or a transfer belt in a range wider than the size of the sheet to the sheet. In addition, the toner image in a portion other than the paper adheres to the transfer roll in the transfer process, thereby staining the transfer roll, and further, the toner image adhered to the transfer roll stains the back surface of the paper. For this reason, it is more advantageous to cut off the blank portion with a cutter after forming the image with the blank space, in order to prevent the printed image from being stained.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in order to obtain an image having a high surface smoothness such as a silver halide photograph, a new special fixing device is required. In addition, a new cutter is required to cut the margin of the image. As described above, in order to obtain an image such as a silver halide photograph, the size of the image forming apparatus tends to increase.
[0007]
The present invention has been made in view of such a technical problem, and an object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus capable of obtaining an image such as a silver halide photograph while being compact. .
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention provides an image forming unit that forms an image on a recording sheet, a discharge tray on which the recording sheet on which the image is formed is placed, and a conveying unit that conveys the recording sheet on which the image is formed to the discharge tray. And the conveying means is an image forming apparatus that changes the conveying direction of the recording sheet in the same plane. The maximum size of the recording sheet on the discharge tray can be smaller than the maximum image forming size of the image forming unit.
[0009]
Further, the conveying means may change the conveying direction of the recording sheet to a substantially right angle in the same plane. Further, the conveying means may change a conveying direction of the recording sheet immediately before the discharge tray.
[0010]
Further, the discharge tray may be located on the front side of the image forming apparatus. Further, the discharge tray may be present in the installation projection plane of the image forming apparatus. In the case where a document reading unit for reading a document and obtaining an image signal of the document is provided, the image forming unit forms an image on a recording sheet based on the image signal, and the discharge tray includes the document reading unit. And an image forming unit.
[0011]
Further, the image forming means may include a fixing means for forming an image with the toner on the recording sheet and fixing the image with the toner on the recording sheet. The recording sheet includes a base material and a thermoplastic resin layer on one surface of the base material, and the image forming unit forms an image with a toner on the thermoplastic resin layer side of the recording sheet and forms an image with the toner. May be provided with a belt fixing means for burying in the thermoplastic resin layer. Further, the belt fixing means includes a plurality of support rolls including a heating roll and a peeling roll, a fixing belt stretched and rotated by the plurality of support rolls, and a pressure contact with the heating roll via the fixing belt. A pressure roll for forming a nip portion, and a recording sheet for holding the toner, wherein the toner surface is brought into close contact with the fixing belt at the nip portion, conveyed with the rotation of the fixing belt, and formed by the peeling roll. May be separated from the fixing belt. The maximum fixing size by the belt fixing unit may be smaller than the maximum image forming size by the image forming unit.
[0012]
Further, it may be provided with a cutting means for cutting the recording sheet on which the image is formed before reaching the discharge tray. The image forming unit forms an image with toner on the recording sheet, and the fixing unit fixes the image with the toner on the recording sheet. The cutting unit cuts the fixed recording sheet up to the discharge tray. Means may be provided. Further, a cooling unit for cooling the recording sheet after fixing and before cutting may be provided. The cooling unit can cool the recording sheet so that the temperature of the recording sheet becomes lower than the softening point of the toner formed on the recording sheet.
[0013]
Further, the cutting means may cut a non-image area (and some image areas) existing on each side of the rectangular recording sheet. Further, the transport means includes a first transport roll disposed on the upstream side in the transport direction, and a second transport roll disposed on the downstream side in the transport direction and orthogonal to the first transport roll. The cutting means includes a pair of first circular cutters having a first width and being disposed in parallel with the first transport roll, and a pair of second circular cutters having a second width and being disposed in parallel with the second transport roll. It may be provided. Here, the first width and the second width can be determined according to a desired borderless image size.
[0014]
Further, such an image forming apparatus is configured as an image forming unit including an image forming unit and a primary fixing unit, and a post-processing unit including a secondary fixing unit, a cooling unit, a cutting unit, a conveying unit, and a discharge tray. The post-processing unit may be detachable from the image forming unit. The image forming apparatus may include a control unit that operates one or both of the image forming unit and the post-processing unit.
[0015]
By adopting such a configuration, it is possible to obtain a high-gloss borderless image simply by adding a post-processing unit to a conventional image forming unit (for low-gloss or non-gloss general text). Thus, development and production costs of an image forming apparatus for a high gloss borderless image can be reduced.
[0016]
In this case, the size of the recording sheet that can be fixed by the second fixing unit (heat fixing unit) can be smaller than the size of the recording sheet that can be fixed by the first fixing unit. More preferably, the size of the recording sheet that can be fixed by the second fixing unit can be set to half or less the size of the recording sheet that can be fixed by the first fixing unit. For example, the maximum size of a recording sheet that can be fixed by the second fixing unit can be a postcard size or an L size of a photograph, and the maximum size of a recording sheet that can be fixed by the first fixing unit can be an A3 size. By configuring the image forming apparatus in this way, the size of the secondary fixing device can be reduced, and the space saving and operability improvement of the image forming apparatus that outputs an image without a high gloss border can be achieved. The small second fixing means (heat fixing means) also contributes to power saving. By controlling the heating sources of the first fixing unit and the second fixing unit so that they are not turned on at the same time, further power saving can be achieved.
[0017]
It is preferable that the thermoplastic resin layer of the recording sheet is of the same quality as the toner resin (binder resin) constituting the toner, and is selected so that the melting temperatures of both resins are substantially the same.
