Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fuel cell system including a fuel cell that generates power by an electrochemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, and is effective when applied to a moving body such as a vehicle, a ship, and a portable generator.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art A fuel cell of a conventional fuel cell system is configured by stacking a plurality of cells that generate power by an electrochemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. Further, the cell includes a membrane electrode body in which a catalyst is arranged on both sides of the electrolyte membrane, and a separator that sandwiches the membrane electrode body, and a passage for flowing hydrogen and oxygen is provided between the membrane electrode body and the separator. Is formed.
[0003]
In this fuel cell system, water is always generated by a chemical reaction, and in an operation state in which power generation by the fuel cell is stably maintained, the generated water exists in a gas or liquid state due to heat of the chemical reaction. However, when the power generation by the fuel cell is stopped, the generated water stays on the surface or inside of the membrane electrode body, and when the ambient temperature drops below the freezing point, it freezes on the surface or inside the membrane electrode body. .
[0004]
Then, when ice is frozen on the catalyst of the membrane electrode body which is an electrochemical reaction field, the electrochemical reaction does not occur even if hydrogen or oxygen as fuel is supplied to the membrane electrode body. In addition, when ice is frozen inside the electrolyte membrane of the membrane electrode assembly, even if hydrogen is decomposed into protons and electrons by the catalyst, the protons cannot move in the electrolyte membrane, so that electric energy cannot be taken out.
[0005]
Therefore, in a subzero atmosphere, water frozen on the surface and inside of the membrane electrode body is melted by some method, and then hydrogen or oxygen is supplied to extract electric energy. However, when the fuel cell is used for a vehicle, the startability under any environment is important, but the startability is deteriorated by the time required to melt the frozen water on the surface and inside of the membrane electrode assembly.
[0006]
Therefore, in order to improve the low-temperature startability by saving the time required for melting, a system has been proposed in which the water inside the fuel cell is removed after the operation is stopped. Specifically, a three-way switching valve and a moisture adsorbing section are provided in a hydrogen or oxygen supply line, and the moisture adsorbing section removes moisture inside the fuel cell after the operation is stopped (for example, see Patent Document 1). ).
[0007]
[Patent Document 1]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2002-208429
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the system described in
[0009]
Here, in the case of a fuel cell system for a vehicle, for example, the inside diameter of the pipe is about 1 inch (25.4 mm), while the gap in the passage inside the cell, that is, the gap between the membrane electrode body and the separator is several hundreds. It is about μm. Then, in order to remove the moisture present in each of the several hundred cells stacked inside the fuel cell by the moisture adsorption portion, the moisture inside the cell moves in a relatively very narrow space inside the cell. Then, it is necessary to reach a moisture adsorption part installed in a large space. Therefore, it is difficult to reliably remove the water inside the cell by the water adsorption section.
[0010]
In addition, the water adsorbing section first adsorbs the water present in the pipe before adsorbing the water present on the surface or inside of the membrane electrode body. There is a problem that the effect of drying well is reduced.
[0011]
Further, although the moisture adsorbing section is provided in the supply line of hydrogen or oxygen, it is expected that mounting will be difficult in a vehicle having a limited mounting space.
[0012]
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and has as its object to enable the surface and inside of a membrane electrode assembly to be effectively controlled to be in a dry state after operation is stopped.
[0013]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the invention according to
[0014]
According to this, since the water absorbing member is arranged close to the membrane electrode body, when the operation of the fuel cell is stopped, moisture present on the surface or inside the membrane electrode body is surely adsorbed, and the membrane is absorbed. The surface and the inside of the electrode body can be effectively controlled to a dry state.
[0015]
Further, since the water absorbing member is arranged in the cell, it is possible to avoid an increase in the size of the system.
[0016]
According to the second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a fuel cell in which a plurality of cells (1) that generate electric energy by an electrochemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen are stacked, and the cells (1) are formed of an electrolyte membrane (111). A membrane electrode body (11) having catalyst layers (114, 115) arranged on both sides, and separators (12, 13) sandwiching the membrane electrode body (11) are provided. The membrane electrode body (11) and the separator (12) are provided. , 13), in the fuel cell system in which the passages (14, 15) for flowing hydrogen and oxygen are formed, the water absorbing members (114, 115) for adsorbing moisture are arranged in the membrane electrode assembly (11). It is characterized by having been done.
[0017]
According to this, since the water absorbing member is disposed on the membrane electrode body, when the operation of the fuel cell is stopped, moisture present on the surface or inside the membrane electrode body is surely adsorbed, and the membrane electrode body is absorbed. The surface and the inside can be effectively controlled to a dry state.
[0018]
Further, since the water absorbing member is arranged in the cell, it is possible to avoid an increase in the size of the system.
[0019]
According to a third aspect of the invention, the water absorbing member (16, 114, 115) has a characteristic of adsorbing moisture in a low temperature range and desorbing moisture in a high temperature range.
[0020]
According to this, when the temperature in the cell rises due to the start of operation of the fuel cell, the water adsorbed on the water absorbing member is desorbed, and the desorbed water can wet the membrane electrode assembly.
[0021]
In addition, the code | symbol in the parenthesis of each said means shows the correspondence with the concrete means described in embodiment mentioned later.
[0022]
