Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an automatic focusing device that can automatically execute focus adjustment for a subject image photographing process, a control method thereof, a program, and a recording medium.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, in electronic still cameras and video cameras, a high-frequency component of a luminance signal obtained from an image sensor such as a CCD is used as a focus position at a lens position where a high-frequency component of the signal is maximized. The lens is moved in the direction in which the component (hereinafter referred to as the focus evaluation value) increases, and a hill-climbing method in which the position at which the focus evaluation value becomes the maximum is the focusing position, or the focus evaluation while driving the lens over the entire distance measurement range. There is known a method in which values are stored, and a lens position corresponding to the maximum value of the stored values is set as a focus position. In these methods, as shown in FIG. 15, the center portion of the photographing screen is usually defined as a distance measurement area, and the lens position at which the focus evaluation value is maximized for a subject within this range is defined as the focus position. The relationship between the lens position thus obtained and the focus evaluation value has a mountain shape as shown in FIG.
[0003]
On the other hand, when shooting a still image with an electronic still camera or a video camera, the image on the electronic viewfinder is always kept in focus by the hill-climbing AF, and before and after the actual shooting, the hill-climbing AF is scanned before and after the peak position. There is known a method of re-acquiring a final focus position.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, as described above, if control is performed so as to always scan before the actual photographing to obtain a final in-focus position, the time required for photographing preparation becomes longer. Further, it is useless to perform the scan before the actual photographing even though the in-focus state is once set in the hill-climbing AF. On the other hand, if the scan before the main shooting is not always performed, for example, when the camera is ready for shooting before the hill-climbing AF is completed, for example, immediately after panning the camera, the camera is ready for shooting even though the focus is not yet achieved. There is a contradiction that it will shift.
[0005]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and has an automatic focusing apparatus that can omit useless focus adjustment processing and reduce the time required for shooting preparation, a control method thereof, a program, and recording. BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
<First embodiment>
FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing a configuration of an electronic camera according to a first embodiment of the present invention and second and third embodiments described later.
[0015]
Next, the operation of the electronic camera according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG.
First, in step S201, the state of the shooting start instruction switch is determined. If the shooting start instruction has been issued, the process proceeds to step S206; otherwise, the process proceeds to step S202. In step S202, the AE operation is performed by controlling the

FIG. 3 is a flowchart showing the hill-climbing AF operation in S204 of FIG. First, in S301, it is checked whether or not the hill-climbing completion flag is TRUE. If the flag is TRUE, the process proceeds to S303; otherwise, the process proceeds to S302. It is assumed that the hill-climbing completion flag is set to FALSE in advance in an initialization operation (not shown). In S302, the AF operation is performed in a hill-climbing mode described later. In S303, the AF operation is performed in the monitoring mode described later.

In S504, 1 is added to the change counter. This change counter is assumed to be set to 0 in advance in an initialization operation (not shown). In S505, it is checked whether or not the change counter is larger than a predetermined amount. If the change counter is larger, the process proceeds to S506. If not, the current process is terminated and the process is prepared for the next process in the monitoring mode.

In S506, the hill-climbing completion flag is set to FALSE. That is, the focus evaluation value fluctuates more than a predetermined amount during a predetermined period, and such a change occurs a predetermined number of times, so that the peak position previously obtained by the AF operation in the hill-climbing mode becomes unreliable. Then, the hill-climbing completion flag is set to FALSE in order to restart the AF operation in the hill-climbing mode. In S507, the initial value acquisition flag is set to FALSE. First, in step S701, it is determined whether the hill-climbing completion flag is TRUE. If the flag is TRUE, the main exposure AF process ends. Otherwise, the process proceeds to step S702. The hill-climbing completion flag is set in S415 of FIG. 4 or S506 of FIG. Next, in step S702, the

With the above configuration, when the hill-climbing mode is completed in the hill-climbing AF described with reference to FIG. 3 and the hill-climbing completion flag is set to TRUE and the monitoring mode is being performed, that is, when a shooting start instruction is issued in a state where the subject is in focus, FIG. As described in 7, the AF process ends without performing anything in the main exposure AF. In other words, if the hill-climbing AF is completed before the shooting start instruction is issued, the camera is already in focus at that point, and it is not necessary to re-focus when the shooting start instruction is issued. Then nothing is done. This makes it possible to reduce the time lag from when the photographing start instruction is issued to when the photographing is actually performed.
[0031]
On the other hand, when the hill-climbing mode is not completed in the hill-climbing AF and the shooting start instruction is issued when the hill-climbing completion flag is FALSE, the AF processing for detecting the focus peak position by the scanning operation in the AF for main exposure. I do. In other words, if the hill-climbing AF has not been completed when the photographing start instruction is issued, the focus has not yet been achieved at that point, and the scanning operation is performed in the main exposure AF processing to perform the focusing. This makes it possible to reliably focus on the subject.
[0032]
In the above description of FIG. 7, the scan start position is the current position of the
[0033]
As described above, according to the present embodiment, it is determined whether or not the scan operation can be performed in the main exposure AF after the shooting start instruction has been issued, in accordance with the completion state of the hill-climbing AF performed prior to the shooting start instruction. Therefore, the focusing time can be shortened and the focusing accuracy can be improved according to the situation at that time.

<Second embodiment>
Next, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described.
In the above description, whether or not the scan operation can be performed in the main exposure AF after the shooting start instruction has been made is determined according to the completion state of the hill climbing AF performed prior to the shooting start instruction. Whether or not to execute the scanning operation may be determined according to the degree of focus at the time when the instruction is given. The operation in such a configuration will be described below.

[0053]
When it is determined that the focus evaluation value acquired in S902 of FIG. 9 is equal to or smaller than the focusing threshold value, the degree to which the aperture is to be reduced is determined according to the focus evaluation value. In FIG. 9, two types of determination values, ie, the focus degree determination value (1) and the focus degree determination value (2), are used for this determination. At this time, when the depth of focus is increased by one stop from the current aperture value, the depth of focus is converted into the position of the
[0054]
In S903 of FIG. 9, the focus degree determination value {1} set in this way is compared with the focus evaluation value acquired in S901 of FIG. 9, and if the focus evaluation value is larger than the focus degree determination value {1}. As for the amount of defocus, it is determined that there is no practical problem if the aperture is reduced by one step from the current setting, and the aperture is reduced by one step. Similarly, in step S906, the focus degree determination value (2) is compared with the focus evaluation value. It is determined that there is no practical problem if the aperture is stopped down by two stops, and the stop is stopped down by two stops. When the focus evaluation value is equal to or smaller than the focus degree determination value {circle around (2)}, the scan AF is performed to detect the focus position again.
[0055]
As described above, in the main exposure AF process, the focus evaluation value and the in-focus degree determination value are compared, and the aperture is narrowed according to the comparison result so that the blur amount does not have a practical problem. Since the processing is terminated, the time lag after the photographing start instruction is issued can be shortened.
[0056]
Further, in the description of FIG. 9, the darkening caused by stopping down the aperture is offset by decreasing the shutter speed, but this may be offset by amplifying the video signal by gain control. Further, the shutter speed and the gain control may be combined.
[0057]
Next, a fourth embodiment of the present invention will be described.
<Fourth embodiment>
In the above description, the main exposure AF is performed according to the photographing start instruction. However, when the photographing start instruction has two stages of the photographing preparation instruction and the main exposure instruction, the main exposure AF is performed based on these instructions. The operation in the case of performing the operation will be described below.
[0058]
FIG. 12 is a block diagram showing a configuration of an electronic camera according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention.
[0059]
FIG. 13 replaces the flowchart of FIG. 2 described in the first embodiment.
First, in step S1201, the state of SW1 for instructing shooting preparation is determined. If it is ON, the process proceeds to step S1206; otherwise, the process proceeds to step S1202. In step S1202, the AE operation is performed by controlling the

FIG. 17 is a flowchart illustrating the photographing processing in S1206 in FIG.
In step S1701, the main exposure AE operation is performed. In step S1702, the main exposure AF operation is performed according to the procedure described with reference to FIG. In step S1703, the state of SW2 is checked. If it is ON, the process proceeds to step S1705; otherwise, the process proceeds to step S1704.
In step S1705, the exposure to the
[0064]
With the above-described configuration, as described with reference to FIG. 13, when the SW1 for instructing the shooting preparation is turned on, the shooting process starts. In the photographing process, a process described later with reference to FIG. 17 is performed. In the main exposure AF process in this process, first, the state of SW2 for instructing the main exposure is determined. If the switch SW2 is ON, the main exposure AF process ends. That is, shooting is performed with the focus position in the hill-climbing mode described in FIG. 4 of the first embodiment. On the other hand, if the switch SW2 is not ON, the scan AF operation is performed. In other words, the scan AF is performed again from the focus position in the hill-climbing mode in FIG. 4 of the first embodiment, and the focus is surely adjusted.
[0065]
By doing so, the state of SW2 is determined prior to the main exposure AF process when performing the photographing process. Therefore, if SW1 and SW2 are turned on almost simultaneously to perform quick imaging, the main exposure AF process is performed. Since no scan AF is performed, shooting can be performed quickly. On the other hand, if only the SW1 is turned on to perform photographing after the focus is surely focused, the scan AF is performed in the main exposure AF process, so that the subject may move from the focus position in the hill-climbing mode. Even in this case, it is possible to reliably focus and shoot.
[0066]
As described above, according to the embodiment of the present invention, if the hill-climbing AF is completed, the scanning operation in the main exposure AF is not performed, so that the photographing can be performed quickly after the photographing start instruction is issued. it can. If the hill-climbing AF is not completed, the scanning operation in the main exposure AF is performed, so that the focus can be surely adjusted even when a shooting start instruction is issued during the hill-climbing AF operation.
[0067]
In addition, since the focus evaluation value is checked at the start of the main exposure AF, if the photographing start instruction is given, the photographing can be quickly performed if the subject is in focus. If the subject is out of focus, the scan AF is performed, so that the photographing can be performed after the subject is surely focused.
[0068]
In addition, since the aperture is reduced in accordance with the degree of focus in the main exposure AF, it is possible to quickly perform photographing with the blur amount of the subject having no practical problem. Further, when the amount of blur does not become practically no problem by merely stopping down, the scan AF is performed, so that it is possible to reliably focus and shoot.
[0069]
Further, when the photographing start instruction is divided into a photographing preparation instruction and a main exposure instruction, and if the main exposure instruction has been issued in the main exposure AF, the scanning operation in the main exposure AF is not performed. The photographing can be performed quickly after the start instruction is given. If the main exposure instruction is not issued, the scanning operation is performed by the main exposure AF, so that the focus can be surely adjusted.
[0070]
<Other embodiments>
Further, an object of the present invention is to provide a storage medium storing a program code of software for realizing the functions of the above-described embodiments to a system or an apparatus, and a computer (or CPU or MPU) of the system or the apparatus to store the storage medium. Needless to say, this can also be achieved by reading and executing the program code stored in the program.
[0071]
In this case, the program code itself read from the storage medium realizes the function of the above-described embodiment, and the storage medium storing the program code constitutes the present invention.
[0072]
As a storage medium for supplying the program code, for example, a flexible disk, a hard disk, an optical disk, a magneto-optical disk, a CD-ROM, a CD-R, a magnetic tape, a nonvolatile memory card, a ROM, and the like can be used.
[0073]
When the computer executes the readout program code, not only the functions of the above-described embodiments are realized, but also an OS (Operating System) running on the computer based on the instruction of the program code. It goes without saying that a case where some or all of the actual processing is performed and the functions of the above-described embodiments are realized by the processing is also included.
[0074]
Further, after the program code read from the storage medium is written into a memory provided in a function expansion board inserted into the computer or a function expansion unit connected to the computer, the function is executed based on the instruction of the program code. It goes without saying that a CPU or the like provided in the expansion board or the function expansion unit performs part or all of the actual processing, and the processing realizes the functions of the above-described embodiments.
[0075]
【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, when a sufficient focus state has already been obtained before the photographing start instruction is issued, the focus adjustment after the photographing start instruction is not performed. This can be omitted, and the time required for shooting preparation can be reduced.
[0076]
Further, according to the present invention, if a sufficient focus state has not yet been obtained at the time when the shooting start instruction is issued, the focus is adjusted even after the shooting start instruction, so that the sufficient focus state is achieved. It is possible to avoid taking an image without obtaining the image.
