Description
【0001】
R = (2*(2R+G) − (R+2G))/3
G = −((2R+G) − 2*(R+2G))/3
B = (2*(2B+G) − (B+2G))/3
【0074】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an imaging device having a zoom function and a control method thereof.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art In a conventional imaging apparatus, an imaging element such as a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) performs photoelectric conversion to convert an output electric signal into a digital signal, and performs digital signal processing to obtain a predetermined video signal. Further, an image pickup apparatus having a zoom function is generally capable of arbitrarily determining an angle of view from the wide-angle side to the telephoto side by using an optical zoom lens in front of an image pickup device. Further, a video signal on the telephoto side can be further obtained by an electronic zoom process of electrically enlarging a subject image formed on a central portion of the image sensor by digital signal processing.
[0003]
FIG. 9 is a block diagram showing a schematic configuration of an imaging device having a conventional zoom function.
In FIG. 9, an
[0004]
The zoom operation button 46 is a button for the user to perform a zoom operation. In general, the zoom operation button 46 includes an enlargement button (or a TELE button) for enlarging an image and a reduction button (or a WIDE button) for returning the enlarged image to a base. The zoom switching unit 47 is a circuit that determines and switches whether to perform the enlargement / reduction processing according to the operation of the zoom operation button 46 using the optical zoom or the electronic zoom. The optical zoom control unit 48 controls the motor 41 so as to perform the enlargement / reduction process by adjusting the angle of view of the subject that the lens 40 forms on the image sensor 42 based on the determination of the zoom switching unit 47. This is a circuit that outputs a control signal.
[0005]
Note that, when the lens 40 is at the most telephoto side (TELE end), the optical zoom control unit 48 outputs a notification signal to that effect to the zoom switching unit 47. The zoom switching unit 47 switches between optical zoom and electronic zoom based on the notification signal and the operation of the zoom operation button 46.
[0006]
Here, the switching process of the zoom switching unit 47 will be further described.
FIG. 10 is a diagram illustrating a process of switching between optical zoom and electronic zoom by the zoom switching unit 47 included in the
[0007]
Next, the operation of the above-described conventional image sensor shown in FIG. 9 will be described using the image sensor shown in FIG. 11A composed of 480 pixels vertically and 720 pixels horizontally as an example.
FIG. 11A is a diagram illustrating an example of pixel mixing in a conventional image sensor.
Normally, the image sensor 42 performs interlaced reading when capturing a moving image. That is, the drive from the TG 43 causes the charges of two pixels adjacent in the vertical direction to be mixed and transferred in the image sensor 42. As shown in FIG. 11A, in the image sensor 42 in which a complementary color filter is formed for each pixel, a signal obtained by mixing charges of two pixels of cyan (Cy) + yellow (Ye) and magenta ( A signal obtained by mixing charges of two pixels of (Mg) + green (Gr) is output.
[0008]
As described above, the image sensor 42 mixes two pixels in the vertical direction, and outputs a signal with 240 pixels vertically and 720 pixels horizontally as one field. Next, this signal is converted into a digital signal by the AD converter 44. Next, the signal processing unit 47 performs color separation processing, gamma processing, and generation of a luminance signal and a color difference signal. Further, an NTSC television signal may be generated and output based on the luminance signal and the color difference signal.
[0009]
Next, a description will be given of a process of electronic zoom in a conventional imaging apparatus.
FIG. 11B is a diagram illustrating a method of reading out electric charges from the image sensor when performing the electronic zoom processing. In the electronic zoom processing for electrically enlarging and outputting a part of the screen, as shown in FIG. 11B, the enlargement processing is performed using the signal of the central part of the image sensor 42. FIG. 11B shows a case in which the electronic zoom with a magnification (processing magnification) of 2 is performed, and 240 pixels at the center of the 480 pixels in the vertical direction are read out over one field period. That is, by intermittently reading the signal of the central portion of the image sensor 42 in units of one line in the horizontal direction, the signal of the central portion of the image sensor is expanded and output in one field period (one video scanning period).
[0010]
When intermittent reading is performed, the signal processing unit 45 performs an interpolation process using a memory or the like for performing interpolation using a signal that has already been read during a period in which no signal is read from the image sensor 42. . Therefore, in the case of the double electronic zoom shown in FIG. 11B, the signal read out by the electronic zoom processing is a signal of the image sensor 42 of 120 pixels in the vertical direction. Further, the signal processing unit 45 generates a signal of 240 pixels in the vertical direction from the signal of 120 pixels in the vertical direction intermittently read out by an interpolation process using a memory.
[0011]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the above-described imaging apparatus uses an imaging element that reads out data of the same number of pixels as the resolution of a display device such as a TV monitor. The four parts are displayed on the entire display device. As a result, there is a problem that the resolution of the image displayed on the display device is halved in the horizontal and vertical directions.
That is, in the case of using an image sensor composed of 480 pixels vertically and 720 pixels horizontally and enlarging both vertically and horizontally twice by electronic zoom processing, 240 pixels vertically and 360 pixels horizontally at the center of the image sensor (total 360 pixels) Interpolation based on the signal of (1/4 of the number of pixels) generates 480 pixels vertically and 720 pixels horizontally, so that the resolution is greatly reduced.
[0012]
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and provides an imaging apparatus and a control method thereof capable of obtaining a sufficient resolution in a video signal in which an output signal of an imaging element is enlarged and displayed by electronic zoom processing. With the goal.
[0013]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problem. In an imaging apparatus according to the present invention, an imaging device having an imaging region in which a plurality of light receiving elements are arranged two-dimensionally, A first control mode for outputting video data using a signal from the first area, and a second control mode for outputting video data using a signal from a second area smaller than the first area. In the first control mode, the video data is output by a signal obtained by mixing signals of a plurality of light receiving elements, and in the second control mode, the video data is mixed. Control means for controlling the video data to be output by a signal obtained by mixing signals of a plurality of light receiving elements which are not present or signals of a plurality of light receiving elements less than the number of mixing in the first control mode. It is characterized by having.
[0014]
Also, the present invention relates to a method for controlling an imaging apparatus having an imaging element having an imaging area in which a plurality of light receiving elements are arranged two-dimensionally, wherein video data is obtained by using a signal from a first area in the imaging area. And a second control mode for outputting video data using a signal from a second area smaller than the first area. In the case of the mode, the video data is output by a signal obtained by mixing the signals of the plurality of light receiving elements, and in the case of the second control mode, the signal of each of the plurality of light receiving elements which are not mixed or the first signal is output. The control is such that the video data is output by a signal obtained by mixing signals of a plurality of light receiving elements, which is smaller than the number of mixing in the control mode.
[0015]
Accordingly, in the image pickup apparatus and the control method thereof according to the present invention, the number of pixels can be adjusted and the resolution of the image can be changed according to the electronic zoom magnification (processing magnification). That is, a sufficient resolution can be obtained for a video signal in which the output signal of the image sensor is enlarged and displayed by electronic zoom processing.

[0060]
First, the operations of the optical zoom process and the electronic zoom process of the imaging device 100a will be described.
As shown in FIG. 6, in a state where the
[0061]
FIG. 5A is a diagram illustrating a configuration of a primary color filter of the image sensor 103a illustrated in FIG. As shown on the left side of FIG. 5A, the image sensor 103a has a pixel array of 720 vertical pixels and 1440 horizontal pixels to which RGB primary color filters are added. When causing the image sensor 103a to perform the two-pixel mixing process at t11 in FIG. 6, the image capturing apparatus 100a performs the following operation.
[0062]
FIG. 5B is a diagram illustrating an example of processing of charge transfer and pixel mixing when two pixels are mixed in the image sensor 103a during optical zoom. When the
[0063]
According to the timing signal described above, the image sensor 103a reads out the electric charge generated in each pixel to the vertical transfer unit, and performs a process of mixing the read out electric charges with two pixels (R + R, B + B, G + G) adjacent in the vertical direction. Next, the image sensor 103a sweeps out 120 pixels (the swept-out part A in FIG. 5B) which is first transferred to the horizontal transfer unit out of the 720 pixels in the vertical direction by high-speed transfer. Next, the image sensor 103a transfers the 240 pixels after mixing of the two pixels at the center (480 pixels before mixing) to the horizontal transfer unit in units of one line, and outputs the same from the output processing unit. Next, the image sensor 103a sweeps away the remaining 120 pixels (swept-away portion B in FIG. 5B) by high-speed transfer.
[0064]
The reason why the upper and lower 120 pixels in the vertical direction are swept away is that all the pixel signals after the two pixels of the image sensor 103a are mixed are read out within one field period. The output signal output from the image sensor 103a by the above processing is converted into a digital signal by the
[0065]
Next, when causing the image sensor 103a to perform the non-mixing process at t14 in FIG. 6, the image capturing apparatus 100a performs the following operation.
FIG. 5C is a diagram illustrating an example of charge transfer and non-mixing processing in the image pickup device 103a during non-mixing during electronic zoom. When the
[0066]
The image sensor 103a reads out the electric charge generated in each pixel to the vertical transfer unit according to the timing signal described above. Next, the image sensor 103a sweeps out 240 pixels (swept-out part C in FIG. 5C) of the 720 pixels in the vertical direction, which are first transferred to the horizontal transfer unit, by high-speed transfer. Next, the image sensor 103a transfers the central 240 pixels to the horizontal transfer unit in units of one line, and outputs the same from the output processing unit. Next, the image sensor 103a sweeps away the remaining 240 pixels (the swept away portion D in FIG. 5C) by high-speed transfer.
[0067]
The reason why the above 240 pixels in the vertical direction are swept away is to read out all the pixel signals in the central portion in the vertical direction in the image sensor 103a within one field period. The output signal output from the image sensor 103a by the above processing is converted into a digital signal by the
[0068]
Next, an electronic wide operation of the imaging device 100a will be described.
Here, in a state where the
[0069]
Next, when the electronic processing magnification becomes 0.75 times, the number of pixels to be mixed is changed from two pixels to three pixels, and three pixels are mixed (t16). Accordingly, the imaging apparatus 100a changes from a state of a reduction magnification (0.75 times) in which three pixels are thinned out from 12 pixels (for 24 light receiving elements) to a mixture of 2 pixels, to 8 pixels for 3 pixel mixing (for 24 light receiving elements). ) Is a state of an enlargement magnification (1.125 times) for generating 9 pixels. Thus, in the two-pixel mixture, where the deterioration of the image quality is increased by thinning out 1/4 of the pixels, the three-pixel mixture having a lower resolution than the two-pixel mixture, By using the information, the overall image quality can be improved.
[0070]
Then, when it is lowered to the minimum electronic processing magnification (2/3 times) (a state in which three pixels are vertically read from the entire surface of the image sensor), the operation is stopped (t17). In the present embodiment, the minimum electronic processing magnification of the imaging apparatus 100a is 2/3, but a further reduction process in which the electronic processing magnification is 2/3 or less may be performed. The electronic processing magnification for switching from the two-pixel mixing to the three-pixel mixing is not limited to the above-described 0.75 times, but is optimal for improving the image quality in consideration of the combination of the vertical interpolation processing and the image improvement processing performed together. Any magnification is acceptable.
[0071]
The operation of the imaging device 100a when the control is performed to the widest angle side (the number of mixtures = 3 pixels) at t17 in FIG. 6 will be described below.
The diagram shown on the right side of FIG. 5A is a diagram showing an output signal when three adjacent pixels in the vertical direction are mixed and output. When the
[0072]
First, the image sensor 103a reads out the charges generated in each pixel to the vertical transfer unit, and performs a process of mixing the read out charges with three pixels (2R + G, B + 2G) adjacent in the vertical direction. By performing this mixing process, the number of pixels output by the image sensor 103a as an output signal becomes 240 pixels vertically and 1440 pixels horizontally, which are one third of the number of pixels of the image sensor 103a. That is, since the number of output pixels is reduced to one third, the image pickup device 103a can read out the electric charges obtained by mixing all the pixels within one field period. Note that the above-mentioned all pixels may be all of the pixels in the effective area of the image sensor 103a or all of the pixels of the image sensor 103a.
[0073]
Next, in the image sensor 103a, the signals obtained by mixing the three pixels are 2R + G, B + 2G,... In the first row, and R + 2G, 2B + 2,. ... Thereby, the
R = (2 * (2R + G)-(R + 2G)) / 3
G = − ((2R + G) −2 * (R + 2G)) / 3
B = (2 * (2B + G)-(B + 2G)) / 3
[0074]
Here, each signal obtained by the above calculation by the
[0075]
In the above-described embodiment, the three pixels adjacent to each other in the vertical direction are mixed with the electric charge of the image sensor 103a. However, the present invention is not limited thereto. Three pixels of the same color adjacent in the vertical direction from the image sensor 103a are mixed. It may be a method.
As described above, the video signal output from the imaging device 100a has a vertical pixel count on the wide-angle side where three pixels are mixed, on the telephoto side where two pixels are mixed, and on the telephoto side where non-mixing is performed. Since the number of pixels is 240, the resolution or image quality in the vertical direction can be improved.
[0076]
In the above-described embodiment, a maximum of three pixels are mixed. However, the present invention is not limited to this. In the widest setting, the pixel charge accumulated in the image sensor is set to N pixels (N is the maximum pixel that can be mixed by the image sensor). Number) It is also possible to mix and read. In this case, as the setting is gradually changed to the telephoto side by the

In addition, an image quality improvement process for making a natural image as an intermittent line will be described. For example, an image obtained by electronically zooming a diagonal straight line becomes a jagged straight line. By performing a commonly used image quality improvement process such as linear interpolation or spline interpolation, a natural image is obtained. That is, the image quality improvement processing for making a video natural is a processing such as linear interpolation or spline interpolation. Further, it is more effective to perform these processes on the luminance signal and the color difference signal than on the RGB signals.
As described above, the embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail with reference to the drawings. However, the specific configuration is not limited to the embodiments, and includes a design and the like within a range not departing from the gist of the present invention.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, the resolution of an image can be changed by adjusting the number of mixed pixels according to the magnification of the electronic zoom.
