Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical fiber pigtail with an optical isolator used for optical communication.
[0002]
[Prior art]
An optical isolator is an optical component comprising a polarizer and a garnet, and is typically used in a laser module to suppress reflected light returning to a laser light source. In addition, the polarization maintaining optical fiber is an optical fiber in which the polarization state fluctuates due to various disturbances in a normal optical fiber, but a stress applying layer is provided and the polarization state of propagating light can be preserved. It is. As a typical example used for a laser module, when components having polarization dependence such as an external modulator are used, they are used to connect them.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in order to realize a laser module using the polarization maintaining optical fiber shown in FIG. 11, first, the polarization direction of the light output from the laser element and the polarization direction of the transmission direction of the optical isolator are aligned by rotation alignment. In this case, two rotation alignments are required to adjust the polarization direction of the light passing through the optical isolator and the polarization direction stored in the polarization-maintaining optical fiber by rotational alignment. At the same time, alignment for coupling the light condensed by the lens to the polarization maintaining optical fiber is also required. In other words, the rotation alignment is required twice, and the second rotation alignment must be performed simultaneously with the alignment for coupling light to the polarization-maintaining optical fiber. There was a problem.
[0005]

In view of the above problems, the present invention provides a polarization-maintaining optical fiber pigtail with an optical isolator including at least one polarizer and at least one Faraday rotator on an end surface of a holder for holding a polarization-maintaining optical fiber. In the optical isolator, the optical isolator has a polarization direction display unit that indicates the polarization direction of the light that has passed, so that the polarization direction display unit of the optical isolator matches the polarization direction stored in the polarization maintaining optical fiber. It is characterized by being fixed to.

In the polarization-maintaining optical fiber pigtail with an optical isolator provided with at least one polarizer and at least one Faraday rotator on the end face of the holder holding the polarization-maintaining optical fiber, the optical isolator has passed. It is fixed to a holder having a polarization direction display part indicating the polarization direction of light, and is fixed so that the polarization direction display part of the optical isolator holder and the polarization direction stored in the polarization preserving optical fiber match. It is characterized by having done.
[0007]
Further, the holder for holding the polarization-maintaining optical fiber has a polarization direction display portion indicating the polarization direction in which the polarization-maintaining optical fiber is stored, and the polarization direction display portion and the optical isolator or the optical isolator holder. The polarization direction display sections are fixed so as to coincide with each other.
[0008]
In addition, the holder for holding the polarization-maintaining optical fiber has an obliquely polished surface and an unpolished surface on the end surface, and the boundary between the obliquely polished surface and the unpolished surface is changed in the polarization direction in which the polarization-maintaining optical fiber is preserved. The polarization direction display section shown in FIG.

【Example】
Hereinafter, the results of trial production based on the embodiment of the present invention will be described. The optical isolator element had a rectangular end face, and its long side was made to coincide with the polarization direction of the polarizer arranged on the fiber side. The polarization-maintaining optical fiber is of a type having stress applying parts on both sides of the core. The component holding the polarization-maintaining optical fiber has an obliquely polished surface and an unpolished surface at the end surface. The polarization direction indicating part whose boundary line with the polished surface indicates the polarization direction in which the polarization-maintaining optical fiber is preserved was used. FIG. 10 shows the results of measuring 25 polarization-maintaining optical fiber pigtails with optical isolators and measuring the angles and extinction ratios of the polarization direction display portions. At the time of trial production, optical alignment was not performed at all, and assembly was performed based on the line connecting the center of the stress applying portion and the long side of the optical isolator element. As a result, as shown in FIG. 10, it can be seen that when the angle is increased, the extinction ratio is degraded, and all the devices that achieve the extinction ratio of 20 dB are manufactured at 10 ° or less. From these facts, it was confirmed that the extinction ratio can be controlled by determining the polarization direction display section without optically monitoring the extinction ratio to be optimum.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, a polarization-maintaining optical fiber pigtail with an optical isolator including at least one polarizer and at least one Faraday rotator on an end face of a component holding a polarization-maintaining optical fiber. In the optical isolator, the optical isolator has at least one polarization direction display unit that indicates the polarization direction of the passed light, and the polarization direction display unit of the optical isolator and the polarization direction stored in the polarization maintaining optical fiber are different. By integrally fixing them so that they coincide with each other, rotation alignment of the optical isolator and the polarization-maintaining optical fiber can be performed only by mechanically adjusting the polarization direction of the polarization-maintaining optical fiber. In addition, by integrating the optical isolator and the polarization-maintaining optical fiber pigtail, it is possible to perform only one alignment.
