Abstract
Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting bubbles in a liquid in a liquid supply path of a liquid ejection apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In an ink jet printer equipped with an ink jet head, which is a liquid ejection device, recording ink is supplied by filling an ink cartridge. This ink supply is performed as follows. First, when a cartridge is loaded into the cartridge loading section, the ink supply needle breaks through the seal of the ink supply port of the cartridge and is inserted into the cartridge. By this insertion, the ink in the ink cartridge flows out through the ink supply needle, and is supplied to the ink discharge section through the ink supply path and the like. By the way, if air bubbles enter the ink supply path, ink may not be ejected from the inkjet head, resulting in a print failure. Therefore, as means for detecting the presence or absence of bubbles in the ink, ink is blown from the ink jet head, or an electrode is disposed in the ink flow path to pass current.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when ink is ejected from the inkjet head and the presence or absence of bubbles is detected based on whether the ink is ejected, the ink is wasted. In addition, when an electrode is disposed and current is passed, the electrode may affect the ink flow.
[0004]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems, and a bubble detection device and method for a liquid ejection device that can determine the presence or absence of bubbles without wasting liquid and without affecting the liquid flow. The purpose is to provide.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, a bubble detection device for a liquid discharge apparatus according to the present invention is a device that detects bubbles in the liquid supply path of a liquid discharge apparatus that discharges a first liquid from a nozzle via a liquid supply path. A pressurizing unit that pressurizes the first liquid in the liquid supply path, a thin film that is provided in the liquid supply path and deforms so as to swell outward as the first liquid is pressurized by the pressurizing unit, and the thin film Thin film deformation detecting means for detecting the deformation of the thin film, and determination means for determining the presence or absence of bubbles based on the deformation of the thin film detected by the thin film deformation detecting means.
[0006]
The thin film deformation detecting means is connected to the liquid supply path through the thin film, and detects a detection path in which the second liquid is stored and a variation in the surface height of the second liquid in the detection path. And means. Moreover, it is preferable to provide a deformation restricting member that restricts deformation of the thin film toward the liquid supply path between the thin film and the liquid supply path. Furthermore, it is preferable that the determination unit determines the presence or absence of the bubble based on a difference between a deformation amount of the thin film when the bubble is present and a deformation amount of the thin film when the bubble is absent.
[0007]
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for detecting bubbles in a liquid discharge apparatus that discharges liquid from a nozzle through a liquid supply path. A thin film that deforms so as to swell, pressurizes the liquid in the liquid supply path, detects deformation of the thin film at the time of pressurization, and determines the presence or absence of the bubbles based on the deformation of the thin film. .

In the above embodiment, the change in the water level of the detection path due to the pressurization of the pressurizing pump is detected and the presence or absence of bubbles is determined based on the detection result. The presence or absence of bubbles may be determined based on the above. Moreover, a pressure sensor may be attached to the detection path, a pressure change accompanying a change in the water level may be detected, and the presence or absence of bubbles may be determined based on the detection result.
[0014]
In the above embodiment, a pressurizing pump is used as the pressurizing unit. However, pressurization may be performed using a piezo for discharging ink. In this case, the resistance of the detection film and the detection path needs to be smaller than that of the upstream, and a valve is used in the upstream portion as necessary.
[0015]
Furthermore, in the above-described embodiment, a photo interrupter is used as the detecting means and the water level change is detected by the difference in the photoelectric detection value. However, the water level change may be detected using an electrode or the like.
[0016]
In the above embodiment, the detection path is provided on the left side of the ink supply path and the lattice holes and the detection film are provided on the lower side. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the detection path may be provided on the right side and upper side. Although the detection path is provided near the nozzle, other parts may be provided. For example, a detection path may be provided in the ink supply path before branching to each nozzle.
[0017]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, the pressurizing unit that pressurizes the first liquid in the liquid supply path and the pressurizing unit that is provided in the liquid supply path and bulges to the outside as the first liquid is pressurized by the pressurizing unit. A thin film deforming film, a thin film deformation detecting means for detecting the deformation of the thin film, and a judging means for determining the presence or absence of bubbles based on the deformation of the thin film detected by the thin film deformation detecting means. Therefore, the presence or absence of bubbles can be determined without waste of liquid.
[0018]
Further, since the deformation restricting member for restricting the deformation of the thin film toward the liquid supply path is provided between the thin film and the liquid supply path, the thin film is deformed to the liquid supply path side by the pressurization by the pressurizing means. And does not affect the liquid flow.
